Hanyou’s Tears

Shippo arrived at the castle of the western lord and slowly walked in. “Inuyasha.” He called but got no response. He walked over to garden to the left of the entrance, and there Inuyasha was sitting in his favor tree in the garden. “Inuyasha.” He called once more but his voice a little lower this time. Inuyasha’s ears twitched and his eyes fixed on Shippo.

“What is it?” He asked with an expressionless face looking the kitsune over. Shippo was no longer a kid but a young adult. He grew into his tail and was now very skilled with his fox magic. He keep his hair short and tie in the same fashion as when he was young, he still wore blue hakama’s , a green kimono top and a brown fur vest. ‘Can’t believe seven years have past.’ He thought after looking Shippo over then returned his gaze to the clear light blue sky.

“I just came to see how you were doing.” Shippo said looking down at the ground then looked up at his adopted father when he didn’t give a response. Inuyasha had barely said a word to anyone in the last seven year and rarely left the castle.

“Feh…” Inuyasha said looking down at six tombstones that lay in a row closer to Shippo.

Shippo glanced down at the tombstones in front of him, the first five read.

Kilala

A true friend and loyal companion

Kohaku

Loving brother and brave warrior

Sango

Devoted friend, sister and warrior

Miroku

Lecherous monk and true friend

Lady Kaede

A wonderful priestess and loving sister

And on the last one read simply.

Lady Kikyo

R.I.P.

Shippo gave a respectful bow along with a short silent prayer. “They gave there lives fighting for what was right.” He said looking Inuyasha over. He then noticed that Inuyasha’s skin was paler than normal, his eyes had a dull sorrowful look and his ears lay against his head. Shippo eyes drifted to Inuyasha’s cloths, he wasn’t wearing his normal red haori, but an all black one with silver embroidered designs, and hanging at his waist was not only the Tetsusaiga but Tokijin and Tenseiga.

“I know…” Inuyasha replied looking down, their eyes locked. Shippo opened his mouth to say something but found that there was nothing to say. Inuyasha hopped down off the tree and began walking further into the garden, but stopped after walking a ways. “Even after all he put me through…the hatred we shared for one another…” He began but cut himself off, as his eyes fell to his brother tombstone.

Here lies

Lord Sesshomaru of the Western Lands

A true leader

“…somewhere…hiding deep within us both was some sort of brotherly love we had for one another…that one thing that helped us understand one another.” Inuyasha added before glancing over at the tombstone next to Sesshomaru and read out loud.

Lady Rin of the Western Lands

Lord Sesshomaru’s Ray of Sunshine

“She was a pain in the ass at times but she was the only one who truly understood him.” Inuyasha said with a small smile.

“She kept him in check at times.” Shippo added stand behind him but a little off to the right side.

They both gave a respectful bow and a few silent prayers.

“If you need me I’ll be inside.” Inuyasha said walking to go inside as Shippo walked further into the garden.

Inuyasha P.O.V.

I explored the castle for the hundredth time; I guess I was starting to like it. As I made my way to my room, I stopped and looked out the window noticing the sun was starting to set, and to my surprise Shippo was just leaving. He must of notice me standing there looked down at him, ‘cause he looked up at me and bid me a fair well, telling me he wouldn’t be back for some time. I nodded and continued my walk to my room. Once there I changed and climbed into bed, but even after some hours, sleep would not come and I knew why. Throwing the covers off I climbed out of bed and walked over to my balcony, pushed open the doors and step out. The cold stone barely bothered me; I looked out over the western lands and sighed. ‘If I couldn’t watch over and keep them safe what makes anyone think I can watch over all of this.’ I turned to retreat back into my room, but it caught my eye and I couldn’t turn away, the thing that was keeping me awake, with another heavy sigh I leapt off the balcony, and fell the 40ft to the bottom, landing gently on the soft grass. I knew what I had to do the question was could I. ‘You’ve got to.’ I took a deep breath and began walking.

There it was, illuminated beautifully by the moonlight, I released a breath I didn’t know I was holding and took a few steps closer and froze. ‘I can’t do this.’ ‘Yes you can…you have to.’ I took several more steps and I was there. It wasn’t real until now, it was all a rumor until now, in the back of my mind I knew the truth I just wasn’t ready to admit it. My eyes began to sting and I began to shake.

Flash Back (four years ago)

“Isn’t there anything that can be done?” Inuyasha all but yelled at Ayame.

“We’ve done all we can, but she’s lost to much blood…not to mention she was already sick.” Ayame replied as Koga walked over to her.

“There’s gotta be something…” Inuyasha yelled turning his back to her.

“Inuyasha.” Kagome called from the room. Inuyasha enter the room and looked his beloved mate over. He gave a faint smile and walked over to her.

“I’m right here.” He said taking her hand in his.

“I…I want to see her…please.” She said looking into his eyes. Inuyasha nodded and walked out the room, he came back a few seconds later holding something wrapped up in a pink blanket. He gently handed the bundle in his arms over to Kagome. “She’s beautiful.” She cried looking down at her baby girl in her arms.

“What should we call her?” He asked stroking Kagome’s hair gently.

“Yumi.” She replied smiling and playing with her little ears. Inuyasha smiled and kissed Kagome on the forehead as he gently stroked his daughter’s cheek. “When she’s old enough… I want you to give her this.” Kagome said taking off a silver necklace with the jewel attached to it, as Inuyasha took Yumi, he nodded and with his free hand took the jewel.

“…okaa…” (mother) Shippo called from the doorway.

“Shippo-chan…” Kagome called back with as warm of a smile as she could give him in her condition. Shippo smiled back walked over to her and gave her a huge. “How are you?” She asked. Inuyasha and Shippo cringed hearing how tired she was, death was upon her they both could sense it.

“…I’m alright…” He replied in an almost cracking voice pushing her bangs out of her face, his emerald green eyes staring into her almond brown.

She looked deeply into his eyes, as she sense the change in his voice, he was on the verge of crying. “Please don’t cry…” She said taking deep breathes, making him tear up even more. “Promise me…you’ll look out for Yumi.” She said as she grabbed his hand.

Silent tears ran down Shippo cheeks “I promise…okaa.” He replied still staring into her eyes.

“Inuyasha…” Kagome called reaching for him. He quickly clutched onto her hand and swallowed hard as the air became thick with death. “Love and protect her…always.”

“I will…” He said looking into her eyes, even in the condition she was in her eyes still were alive and full of love.

“I love you…” She said with a smile.

“I love you to…” He said smiling back before kissing her hand.

With one final looked at her loving family, she smiled, closed her eyes and took her last breath.

End of flash back

“Kagome…” Her name flowed out of my mouth like fine silk, it felt so good to say her name again. Four long years of lying to myself telling myself that she wasn’t died and that she’d come back soon and now here I am standing at her tombstone that I had never once saw. My Kagome, who was once alive and ambitious, now laid six feet under me cold and lifeless. I hadn’t attended the funeral because I wouldn’t know how to take it, it would have toren me up to watch them lay her to rest. My eyes began to stinging more as I read her tombstone:

Here Lies

Lady Kagome

A strong loving priestess, wife and mother

I fell to my knees, gritting my teeth and clutching my fist, trying to hold the emotions back, but it was to no avail. Silent tears ran down my cheeks and before I could stop myself a loud wailing howl, filled with years of bottle up heartbreak, escaped me.

I was awoken the next morning to the sound of a sweet innocent voice and my bed being jumped on. I rolled over and with a quick stretch opened my eyes, only to see Yumi calling me and jumping up and down on my bed.

“What is it?” I asked with a yawn, watching her long silver hair bounce with her movements. She wore a red Kimono with embroider sakura petals and obi that fade from red to pink.

She stopped jumping and fell to her knees with a smile that could brighten up any room. “I found him in the garden.” She said carefully opening her hands and revealing a small white bird. “It’s got a broken wing.” She added as her ears swiveled backward and flattened against her head.

I smiled and sat up; she was just like her mother, always trying to heal something. “It’s a dove.” I told her rubbing its head.

“Can I make him better...otoo san.” She asked looking up at me, her light amber eyes staring into mine, her ears shot up and awaited my answer.

“I don’t see why not.” I replied stroking her hair. Her smile grew bigger as she climbed off the bed and walked over to the balcony.

“Can you open otoo san?”

I nodded, climbed out of bed, opened the door, and walked out onto the balcony with her. The sun had just started rising, making the sky a bright reddish orange. ‘It’s certainly going to be a beautiful day.’ “Go on.” I said holding her by the shoulders.

“…‘kay…” She replied closing her eyes, soon after her hands began to glow a majestic pink. “I did it.” She squealed looking up at me with the biggest smile I had ever seen.

I held my hands over hers. “Ready.” She nodded “Okay on three…one….two…”

“…three& #8230;” She joined in, opening her hands, almost immediately the dove flew out and into the sunrise. “Look at it go papa.” She said running to the railing and staring into the sky in awe.

“I see.” I replied with a warm smile as I stared off into the distance. ‘Yes…a beautiful day…indeed.’

Amber orbs once again shined with life and hope.
