InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Happy Birthday Inuyasha... ❯ How old are you...? ( Chapter 1 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
(Authors Note)
Hey! A one chapter story before I finally move on to the big one! ^_^
I haven't read a fanfic where this happened….so originality points for me! WOOHOO! And if not, well it's ok. Hope you like, and enjoy the show!
Interesting though how all my stories seem to not fit in with each other, like their all different possibilities of what could happen. This proven by Kikyo's messes and blah blah… so its safe to say they don't fit in some time line of my own….how sad.

Happy Birthday Inuyasha….
Chpt. 1: How old are you….?
Kagome twiddled her thumbs playfully, watching the sun set beyond the distant hills. They had been near enough to stop at Kaedes village for the night. Visiting was a rare pleasure, and the lodging was much more relaxing, not to mention free. She sat on a nearby hill, leaning against the comforting bark of a Qwuipo tree. This had actually been the tree where Inuyasha had almost kissed her once, but that was when he had seen her as Kikyo.
Kagome tried not to frown. Kikyo sure had been making life difficult lately. They had almost come to a mutual understanding. What had gone wrong? Ahh, yes, she thought.
The sky was an indescribable hue of orange and pink, masterfully blended, in a way that was unfitting to put into simple words. The light lingered on the edges of the grass, the blades of green swirling with low oranges and purples under the wind.
Yes, the last time she had seen Kikyo, it hadn't been completely pleasant. Inuyasha had snuck off to be with Kikyo, she over heard, ran away crying….a basic scenario in the hellish domain of the feudal era. Even love in this time seemed plagued with hostility. Could no one be happy?
Though for the first time, Kagome went back to seek out Kikyo, to try to come to some kind of understanding; “an explanation would have been great” she muttered under her breath. She had only gotten one bit of information. A special day was approaching…it was…
“Oh!” she suddenly said. Yes, if she was going to get it here, she had to leave now! With a quick jump up, and the familiar of tug of her backpack in place, she skipped away, counting the daylight flicker away…her bows and arrows lay strewn on the hill where she left them…
*
Inuyasha tapped his foot. Where was Kagome? She had simply said she was going out to see the sunset. She had asked him to come along, but he had refused. There's one every day. What was so special about this one? He thought to himself. The others looked up from their food, silently pondering what Inuyasha appeared to be mulling over.
He hadn't even touched his food, let alone taken any of Shippo's, which he politely noted, gobbling down the rest of his meal. Inuyasha was about to stand, when he saw their stares. He snarled. “What is it?” Everyone looked back to their food, still steaming with the fresh promises of warmth and tastiness. Deciding not to waste their fresh meal over the hanyous thoughts, they began to eat, Miroku eating much fast then Sango.
Inuyasha stood with a slight “Hmph”, before exiting the hut. Conversation of Inuyasha suddenly struck inside the hut, though he was not near enough to hear it. He had jumped away, following the still scent the lead him away from the village, to the nearby hill…
*
Inuyasha sniffed the air, finally coming to a stop at the top of a green mound. Kagomes bow and arrows lay strewn hastily about. Had there been trouble? He attempted to sniff again. It seemed to go off in different directions… “Kagome! You here?” There was a soft poke on his back. “Inuyasha…” Inuyasha turned around. Kagome stood there, a bit flushed, and holding something behind her back. He attempted to see it. “Kagome, what is that?” She giggled a bit, then slowly brought it forward.

Kagome brought forth the cake. It was rather small, but she had baked it her self. It was smothered in layers of frosting and different chocolates, delicately formed words spread out across the top, adorned by a handful of candles….if you had a giant's hands.
Kagome blushed a little holding it out, waiting for him to take it. He didn't. He seemed confused actually.
“What is it?” he said, his ears twitching.
“It's a birthday cake silly!” she said holding it out once again. “Happy Birthday Inuyasha!”
Inuyasha suddenly turned red. She could see is face loosen, and his whole angry resolve seemed to completely unravel.
“How did you know it was my birthday?”
Kagome fidgeted a bit. The cake was small, but heavy, laden with the large amount of candles on it. She still held it out at arms length, and wondered why in all the heavens he just stared at it and wouldn't take it off her hands.
“Does that really matter? Hurry up and make a wish!”
“What?”
Kagome realized birthday cakes were probably not invented in this time…were they? Inuyasha being a hanyou wouldn't have received one anyways. The light in the back was fading, along with Kagome's cheerful mood. Explaining was becoming a bit of a bother.
“The candles represent how old you are. They say, if you blow them all out in one breath, your wish will come true!”
Inuyasha looked down to the cake. “And THIS is how old you think I am?!?!” he sneered, trying to count the ridiculous number of candles on the cake. It would have taken hours he figured. Kagome fumed at finally just stomped her foot.
“JUST DO IT!” she yelled, nearly dropping the cake to the ground.
Inuyasha sighed. There was apparently no getting out of this. With a quick glance to Kagome, he took in a breath, and blew the flame of the candles away, the heat of the wicks still living for a moment.
Inuyasha took the cake, licking his lips before turning towards the village. “The group will probably want to share this…” he said trailing off a bit. “…and….thanks.” A glimmer of happiness shown through his eyes, though he didn't know he was revealing it.
Kagome smiled. As he turned to leap away she stopped him.
“Wait! Inuyasha!” she said, gripping his shoulder. He turned back to her.
“What was your wish?” she whispered. She probably already knew. To defeat Naraku, or for Kikyo to return to life, or to become a full demon. She almost regretted asking.
Inuyasha, seeing the sadness in her eyes, spoke softly. “Well, surprisingly enough, I didn't wish for anything I would have in the past.” He said, looking elsewhere for a moment. He prepared to leap. “But it did involve you Kagome.”
Before she could say anything, he leaped away, the red of his kimono blurring through his short bursts of speed. Kagome stood for a moment, before suddenly realizing the sun had set, and it was now dark. With a self assurance, she skipped away merrily, too happy to remember her belongings by the hill.
As he leapt, Inuyasha looked down once more at the cake that Kagome had made. He smiled reading the small print of frosting on the cake.
It's been a quite a while since the first time we met
The look on your face, I will never forget.
I stick by your side; as an ally, and friend
I'll stay to the battle that dawns near the end
So let me just say that, though many might scorn,
We're all really happy that you have been born
For our lives would be empty, and I wanted to say,
That I love you, and just have a happy birthday.
