Hardest Thing

Summary: what's the hardest thing you have ever had to do?

Lie to your parents? Fight with a close friend? Bet you've never had to tell the one you loved that you hated them, that the thought of being in their presence for one more second sickened you or that the time you spent together meant absolutely nothing to you.

The battle was long since over. The companions were in recovery and healing fast thanks to the elder and younger miko's. Kohaku had been saved during the last few moments of the battle, and was now in recovery along with his sister and the monk. Kirara and Shippo were out fetching herbs at Keade's request while Kagome checked on the others.

Sango had been out cold for the past few days thanks to slamming her head on the ground trying to get Shippoe out of the way of one of Naraku's tentacles, other then that she faired with only a few cracked ribs and a sprained ankle. Miroku didn't fair so well, he had shattered his shoulder -pierced by Kagura's dance of blades attack- as well as a bruised lung and cracked ribs. InuYasha was the only one Kagome was honest to god worried about. She knew Sango and Miroku would heal and be on their feet in no time, but InuYasha was oddly quiet. oh well probably another one of his spells Kagome mused laughing at the thought.

 

“Kagome we're back... and we got the herbs you wanted!!!” Shippo chimed happily at his accomplishment.

 

“Great! Set them here.” She gestured for Shippoe to lay the herbs next to her “Arigotu Shippo” Kagome smiled waving away the small kit and two tail.

 

Kagome had no sooner gotten back to tending to her friends when Keade walked in the small room.

 

“Keade-sama....” Kagome said startled

 

“Kagome, ye need to take a break child. Sango and Miroku will be just fine but you wont if you continue to slave over them. Why not take a break and go see about InuYasha or go to the springs?” Keade offered hoping that she would relax for a moment.

 

“Doumo Arigotu Keade-sama, but I don't know..”

 

“Go child” she said cutting her off as she nudged her out of the hut.

 

Hmm maybe she's right... maybe now would be a good time to tell InuYasha. Kagome mused once more as she walked to the Goshinbuku.

 

Inu's POV

 

Damnit what's Kagome doing here? How did she manage to sneak up on me like that

 

“Hey InuYasha!!!” I hear her scream, naturally I jump down behind her

 

“Gods InuYasha don't do that you're gunna give me a heart attack!” she yelps as she attempts to punch me... its funny when she gets mad.

 

“Yea whaddya want?” I ask her in my usual tone.

 

“Well see InuYasha we've been friends for a long time right?”

 

“Yea” I know where this is headed please Kagome don't go there.

 

“Well I really wanted to tell you something but I don't know how to...”

 

“Just spit it out wench” damnit I didn't mean to sound that harsh

 

“InuYasha I .... I ...”

 

“You?,.....”

 

“I love you.. there I said it.. wow... uhh..”

 

I lowered my head.. Kagome why? Why now.. why did you have to say it.. damnit I feel like crying I wish she hadn't done this.

 

“InuYasha please say something”

 

“I'm sorry” I say abruptly.

 

“I... I don't understand”

 

“Damnit Kagome. I don't love you that's what I'm saying.”

 

I see her look at me dis-believing, tears welling up in her eyes.

Kagome please understand why I have to do this... I love you I really do.

 

“InuYasha... so all this time... I thought you had feelings for me.. I mean...”

 

“You were wrong” I say coldly. Kagome please don't make this hard...find someone who can love you...

 

“InuYasha.. why?” she is really crying now. Damnit I didn't wanna do this.

“Go home Kagome. Please! I don't love you. I never loved you!”

 

“But all those times with Kouga...”

 

“I just didn't want Kouga to have you is all. Now go Kagome.”

 

“InuYasha... I love you I thought after all this time you would at least...”

 

“Well I don't. I never loved you. You're just... you're just a SHARD DETECTOR!”

 

{a/n InuYasha didn't actually scream shard detector he was just emphasizing his point}

 

I saw Kagome step back in shock as more tears flooded her eyes. Gods Kagome please just leave and don't make this complicated... more so then it is.

 

“After all this time... I'm just the shard detector not even a friend InuYasha? that's fine. I only hope Kikyo makes you happy. Tell the others good bye for me ok InuYasha?”

 

I nod my head. It's the least I can do for her after breaking her heart. She doesn't even bother to look at me, not that I blame her, she just takes off running towards the well.

{still IY POV}

An hour later and Kikyo had finally shown

She was the next person to startle me at the god tree today.

 

“Ready?” she said, but my heart literally stopped then and there. What was I doing? I couldn't just leave her like that, but I made a promise to Kikyo.... I ...

 

“InuYasha is something wrong?”

 

“Hai..”

 

“Its my reincarnation is it not?”

 

“No, because she is not your reincarnation. She is Kagome and that's it”

 

“Let me ask you this. You love her do you not?”

 

“H-hai”

 

There was a long silence as Kikyo stared at me coldly.

 

“Go to her.”

 

“What?!”

 

“You heard me. Go to her. She is of the living and I am not. She can give you the happiness you deserve and that I can not do”

“Are you serious? But Kikyo I made a commitment to you?”

 

“And you kept it. You promised to avenge my death and you did. Thank you InuYasha but go to Kagome.”

 

I gave her a quick embrace and left to search for Kagome.

Normal POV

 

InuYasha reached the well. the sent of salty tears and lavender was very abundant.

One word crossed InuYasha's mind. Kagome. Of course she had been there, he told her to go home. He quickly jumped through the well wondering why she hadn't sealed it... but then of course it struck him. She wasn't expecting him to come back. he rounded the corner of the well and heard two voices... Kagome and another female voice. Not Mrs. Higurashi. He concluded but a girl more Kagome's age. He listened in on their conversation.

 

“..... Ayumi... I thought we had gotten so close... I .... I was sooo stupid to think he actually loved me..” Kagome sobbed on her friends shoulder

Ayumi... I met her... she was the only one to know I'm a half demon...

 

“Kagome-chan InuYasha is probably just afraid... you said he was alone all his life right.. well maybe he's afraid that you'll find someone else.”

 

Close Ayumi close... I knew I liked this girl

 

“No he said and I quote ““Go home Kagome. Please! I don't love you. I never loved you!”...

Gods Ayumi why did I have to fall for someone like him?”

 

“Love is cruel Kag-chan but it'll all work out. Its getting late I need to go.. but I can stay the night if you want me to.”

 

“That's ok Ayumi I think I need this time alone, thanks for coming over” she said embracing her friend from the modern era. She's no Sango but she's close enough Kagome thought sadly as she watched her friend leave.

Ayumi walked outside the small shrine and came face to face with the hanyou.

 

“InuYasha, what are you doing here?!” she asked shocked and angry

 

“I came to speak to Kagome.... I...”

 

“I swear InuYasha if you hurt her anymore than you already did... I swear to Kami I will KILL you” she warned menacingly.

 

InuYasha mused that she was a scary as Kagome was when she was angry but then again how many women aren't?

 

“Is she... is she ok?”

 

“As good as any women with a broken heart will be”

 

“Do you think she'll forgive me?”

 

“If she does and you hurt her...”

 

“I know... I know you'll kill me”

 

“Good. Now go get her boy” she laughed as she walked down the shrine steps

 

InuYasha chuckled to himself then walked inside.

 

“Ayumi.....” Kagome asked curiously

 

“Kagome... I..”

 

“InuYasha... what happened I thought you were going with Kikyo?” Kagome asked slightly happy but more confused.

 

“No, Kagome I meant to tell you...”

 

“I know.. you love Kikyo... here.. here is the jewel so you can make her real” kagome said handing him the jewel.

 

InuYasha took it and stared at it for only a second before throwing it on the ground and grabbing Kagome by the shoulders to pull her into a passionate kiss.

 

“InuYasha???” kagome said as they broke apart.

 

“Kagome I'm sooo sorry for what I said to you... I never meant to hurt you. But o knew either way I would but I ....”

 

“I know InuYasha.. you wanted to try to soften the blow. But either way it was going to hurt. I'm just glad you don't have to go” she said leaning up to kiss him.

He returned the kiss with full force.

 

“InuYasha ..”

 

“Hmm?”

 

“Promise me something”

 

“What?”

 

“Don't ever leave me again”

 

“You'll be lucky to get rid of me now” he said with a slight chuckle.

 

“I love you”

 

“I love you too.” He said as she snuggled into his chest before allowing sleep to take over.

a/n not necessarily how I wanted to end the fic but its like 1:40 am and I'm tired. Haven't slept well in a few days... damn back to school stress but yea anyway R/R cuz yall love me and its rare that ya'll get a fluff fic from me
