CHAPTER 7
Kagome was feeling somewhat awkward as she sat in the dinning room the next morning, eating her breakfast. She was the only one in the room right now, and she wasn't sure what she should be doing with herself. Back in Ado her family had always eaten every meal together; or at least she, her mother and her brother had. Eating alone was a new experience for Kagome. It probably didn't help that she knew full well the reason for her lack of company. Dalal and Muna were eating alone in their respective rooms, with no intention of socialising with her and in fact most likely plotting ways to get rid of her. Not that she missed their company anyway, her brief encounter yesterday had been more than enough to convince her that she was no doubt better off keeping as much from distance those two as possible. Besides the fact that they were extremely annoying, they'd no doubt grab the chance to twist anything she said or did to their own advantage if given the chance, and Kagome had no intention of making it easier for them. Sango on the other hand, Kagome would have welcomed the company of, but so far this morning Sango had yet to immerge from the Prince's chamber. Kagome blushed at that thought, as she had been doing all morning whenever it popped into her head. Maybe one day she would get used to it, as just another part in the life of a concubine, but right now she found it rather embarrassing and uncomfortable to think about her new friend having sex with the man she herself had slept with only the night before.
Kagome sighed and pushed the half-eaten platter of fruit away from her. Thinking about this was making what little appetite she'd had disappear, and she half felt that if she ate any more she'd be sick. Maybe she should just head back to her room and wait for Sango to appear. A maid would be in here before too long to take the platter away anyway.
Half lost in thoughts, Kagome got up and started for the door. Not watching where she was going, she didn't realise that someone was standing in the doorway until she ran straight into them, nearly knocking herself to the floor in the process. Luckily a pair of strong arms caught her, and she looked up to apologise-slash-thank the person who had caught her. However, when she looked up and saw the face of none other than Prince Inuyasha, her breath caught in her throat and for a long moment she found she couldn't speak.
“You're Highness, I'm sorry, I didn't see you.” Kagome blurted out in a rush as soon as she got her voice back. The last thing Kagome wanted was for Inuyasha to grow annoyed with her this soon after she arrived at the harem.
“It's fine.” Inuyasha said, and from the look on his face he was trying not to laugh at how flustered she was.
Kagome founds herself relaxing slightly at his easygoing attitude. “Is there something you wanted, your Highness?” She asked.
Inuyasha made a slight face. “For one thing, you can drop the `Highness', I'm probably the least formal royal this kingdom has ever seen, much to my brother's distaste.” He couldn't help but smirk at that. Even though he and Sesshomaru no longer quarrelled as they did when they were younger, he still loved to piss his older brother off at times. “I really hate all those titles, so unless were surrounded by people who are going to object I'd really prefer it if you just called me Inuyasha. I think I told you that the other night?”
“Um, yes you did.” Kagome said, blushing brightly as she remembered everything else Inuyasha said or did that night as well.
Inuyasha noticed the blush as instantly guessed the reason for it. However, he tried not to think about it, because if he did his hormones would no doubt kick in and he did have other plans about what he wanted to do today. There'd be plenty of time for that later.
“Do you know how to ride?” Inuyasha asked suddenly.
“What?” Kagome asked, her blush deepening, as the current direction of her thoughts gave Inuyasha's statement a meaning that from the innocent and confused look on his face she wasn't sure he'd intended.
“Horses, do you know how to ride horses?” Inuyasha clarified, blushing himself when he realised how she'd taken his words. Keeping his mind away from sex might be more difficult than he'd thought if this kept up.
“Oh! Oh, yeah, I do.” Kagome said, relieved that the conversation was indeed heading in an innocent direction, and even better one that she was actually rather fond of. “I love riding! Back in Ado I would take my father's horse out every chance we got, not that I got to go riding as often as I would have liked, I was always too busy with chores. Why?”
Inuyasha grinned to himself, this was just the answer he was hoping for. “Well, I was thinking the two of us should get to know each other better, so I was hoping you'd be willing to go with me for ride later today? I've got some stuff to do this morning, and then my father wants to have lunch with me to talk about something, but we could go after that.”
“I'd, I'd like that.” Kagome said softly, smiling slightly to herself. She really had been hoping for a chance to get to know Inuyasha better outside of the bedroom, and she'd love a chance to try riding one of the horses here at the palace. Surely they would be a huge difference from the small, scruffy and mostly beaten down horses she'd ridden in Ado.
“Great, I'll meet you back here after lunch then and we'll go out.” Inuyasha said. “If you don't have a riding outfit yet, I'm sure Sango won't mind lending you one. I'll see you this afternoon.”
***
It was almost time for lunch as Inuyasha hurried towards the palace kitchens. He had to meet his father for lunch soon, but he had something else that needed dealing with before then. He'd been surprised yesterday when he'd received a message from Faruq, the head cook, yesterday asking Inuyasha if he could have a moment of his time today to discuss something of importance. The message hadn't been any more specific than that, but seeing how Faruq had been responsible for getting Inuyasha all the treats he could want when he was younger, and how the old man had never asked Inuyasha for anything before, the younger prince felt almost honour bound to fulfil the request and see what Faruq wanted. He had meant to meet Faruq earlier, but his lesson with Asad had run late, so now he had to hurry to get this over with if he wanted to be on time to meet with his father afterwards. He hoped whatever this was about wouldn't take too long.
When Inuyasha arrived at the kitchen, it frankly resembled a madhouse more than a kitchen, though Inuyasha knew from experience that this wasn't an uncommon occurrence this close to a mealtime. In the social season when all the nobles flocked to the capital, it was even worse, though today was bad enough. As soon as Inuyasha entered he was engulfed by steam and heat, hell itself couldn't be any hotter. Everywhere he looked, Inuyasha saw a cook or kitchen hand all going about their duties while trying not to trip over each other and shouting insults at each other when they failed.
Somehow though, through all of this madness, Faruq still noticed Inuyasha the moment he entered the room, and was by his side in an instant. With a quick bow of welcome, Faruq lead Inuyasha back out the door where, as he put it, they could speak to each other without having to worry about someone running into them with a pot of boiling stew or something.
“I was starting to think you wouldn't be able to see me today.” Faruq said once they were safely outside. Surprisingly though they were barely a few feet away, once they were on the other side of the door they could no longer hear the insanity that was taking place within. “You are looking well, your Highness.”
“Sorry, my lesson with General Asad ran late.” Inuyasha explained his lateness. “So what did you want to see me about?”
“You know my young kitchen hand Shiori, don't you your Highness?” Faruq asked. At Inuyasha nod, he continued. “Do you know about her heritage?” He asked carefully, looking somewhat uncomfortable now for some reason.
“Yeah, her father's one of the northern barbarians, one of those who my father offered asylum after the Agabre conquered their land and made the survivors into slaves some thirty years ago.” Inuyasha said, wondering where this was going. “What does that have to do with anything?”
“Unfortunatly a lot.” Faruq said sadly. “The poor girl has been having a hard time in the kitchens lately, as many of my staff have taken to harassing her for her heritage. They call her unclean and say they don't want to be associated with her. I have tried to stop them from doing this, but as I'm sure you can imagine it's not possible for me to watch all my staff all the time, and I'm afraid that things may soon get out of hand. In fact, I fear they already are. Just yesterday someone - I don't know who or they would be fired or worse by now - managed to pour boiling water down Shiori's back when I was out of the room for a moment. Luckily the poor girl will be okay, and the healers say the burn should heal nicely within a couple of weeks and she's on leave until then. Still, I am afraid that if she returns to work here the same or worse might happen again, as I'm sure she is too.”
Inuyasha was not at all happy to hear this. He didn't know Shiori very well, but what he did know about her he liked. Not only that, but he hated to hear about anyone being abused in such a way, especially for a reason they couldn't help such as their heritage.
“That's horrible, but why did you come to me?” Inuyasha asked, confused. “What do you think I can do for her?”
“Well, you see, I was hoping you would be able to take the girl on as a maid in your harem once she was well enough to go back to work.” Faruq explained, looking awkward about asking the prince for a favour such as this. “I know old Nasira will be retiring at the end of the month, which should be about when Shiori will be able to work again. She is a hard worker, I assure you, and I'm sure will be more than up for whatever chores would be asked of her.”
Inuyasha frowned slightly. “Not that I don't want to help her or anything, but my harem's not exactly the most pleasant place to work either.” Inuyasha explained looking worried. “Most of the maid in there are those who applied to work in the royal wing, and got bumped back; and who are pretty upset about it and express their displeasure by being as nasty as possible to everyone around them. I doubt Shiori will make any more friends in there than she did in the kitchen.”
“Honestly, I didn't expect her too.” Faruq said sadly. “Unfortunatly there are far too many people working in the palace who would be nasty to Shiori for her heritage, no matter where she found work. However, in your harem at least she wouldn't have to worry about people sneaking up behind her with sharp knifes or boiling water, and if you ordered the other staff to leave her alone I'm sure they'd be more inclined to listen to you than my staff were to me.”
“True.” Inuyasha admitted after thinking about it for a minute. “Okay, I'll offer her the position, if she wants to accept it she can start work at the start of next month.”
Faruq smiled. “Thank you your Highness. I have grown very fond of the girl. I'm glad she'll now have a chance to work somewhere where she'll at least be safe.”
“Yeah, well.” Inuyasha said, feeling somewhat awkward about accepting Faruq gratitude when he felt he hadn't really done all that much. “I'm glad I could do something for her. Anyway way I got to get going, I'm supposed to be having lunch with my father soon.”
“You've father?” Faruq asked, suddenly frowning. “You're the guest he asked me to prepare my specially made game-bird stew for?”
“Don't tell me…” Inuyasha said with a groan, already guessing where this was going.
“I sent it out a good ten minutes ago.” Faruq admitted, trying not to smile as the prince groaned again and without another word turned and started running towards the royal dinning hall.
***
Kagome stood near the main entrance slash exit to the harem, nervously checking her borrowed ridding outfit for non-existent lint as she waited for Inuyasha to arrive to take her ridding. Kagome had to admit, this was one outfit of Sango that she truly liked, she would have to make sure to ask the dressmaker to make her one like it when she dropped off the new clothes she was promised she would be receiving by the end of the week, unless the dressmaker hadn't already taken the initiative to do so. It was a lovely outfit. The top half was constructed of a pale pink, silk blouse that felt so soft against her skin, elaborately decorated with a beaded and embodied pattern of a slightly darker pink. The bottom half was made of a pair of wide pants, also pink, which were pelted in such a way that if she was standing still didn't look like pants at all but a skirt. In all, the outfit was attractive, comfortable, practical for ridding and best of all, Kagome didn't feel like her status as a concubine was being broadcast by wearing it. In all, Kagome felt she had more than adequate reasons to like it.
Kagome was also excited about going ridding with the prince soon. Like she'd said this morning, she loved ridding and back in Ado had found excuses to do so whenever possible. Sango had also been happy to tell Kagome about some of the horses kept here at the palace when Kagome went to ask her if she could borrow some ridding clothes, and Kagome was truly looking forward to seeing them and having a chance to ride one. From Sango's descriptions, they were nothing like her father's old gelding. Kagome just hoped she'd be up to the challenge of controlling such a beast.
“There you are.” A voice Kagome had quickly come to recognise said from behind her, and sure enough when she turned around there was Inuyasha, already wearing clothes suitable for going riding in himself. “You ready to go?”
Smiling happily, Kagome nodded and hurried over to him. Chuckling slightly at how eager she appeared, Inuyasha offered her his arm and, once she blushingly took it, lead her out the gate of the harem.
Kagome looked around curiously as Inuyasha lead the way towards the royal stables. When she'd first arrived at the palace she'd been in too much shock and fear over everything that had and was going to happen to her to take much in. Now, she was feeling much more at peace with her new situation and felt freer to take everything in, and was impressed by what she saw. The palace itself was easily six or seven times bigger than Ado, maybe more, seemed to be very well run and organised with everyone knowing exactly what their job was. Ado was rarely that ordered, although with a man like Khayyam as headman Kagome guessed that wasn't too much of a shock. What really surprised Kagome though was how beautiful everything looked. Every single building was clean and looked freshly painted, and there were clear paths and small gardens and fountains everywhere you looked. Even buildings like the smitheries, which in Kagome's experience had a tendency to be ugly, looked attractive. Clearly the people in the palace took pride in their surrounds and wanted to do everything they could to show them off.
Inuyasha was carefully watching Kagome out of the corner of his eye as they walked, and he couldn't help but to approve what he saw. She didn't seem so scared around him now, which could only be a good thing in Inuyasha's mind. He hated it when any woman acted sacred around him, especially his concubines who he really did want to feel comfortable in his presence, for obvious reason. He was also pleased to note that unlike many concubines - aka Dalal and Muna - she didn't seem to feel the need to talk about inane things just to fill the silence, or try to butter him up. Instead her eyes were observing everything around her, a clear intelligence showing in them as she took in everything she saw, another thing Inuyasha valued in a woman. Inuyasha couldn't help but mentally nod to himself in satisfaction. So far, Kagome was showing all the signs of someone he could truly grow to care about. Still, he felt he better spend some more time around her before he made his final assessment of her.
It wasn't much longer before the two reached the stables, and Kagome's eyes widened as she took in the sight of the beautiful desert bred horses within. Seemingly forgetting about her escort for a few minutes, she hurried up and down the aisle as fast as she could without full on running, stopping to look within every stall to coo over how handsome or beautiful each horse was. It wasn't just typical `women over cute animals' talk though, Inuyasha noted, as she also made comments on the horses sizes, apparent temperaments and features, all using the correct terms to come to conclusions which actually surprised and impressed Inuyasha with her knowledge. No doubt about it, this girl knew her horses. Even Sango, who loved to ride, wouldn't be able to tall you so much about the horses she rode.
The grooms that overheard were apparently impressed by her knowledge too, Inuyasha noted, as one of the grooms showed Kagome the horse that ha been picked and already saddled for her, a dark chestnut mare named Chocolate. Inuyasha watched the girl get familiar with the horse for a moment until he was sure she could handle the horse, before turning his attention to his own grey stallion Lightning. So far Kagome was ticking all the right boxes, and Inuyasha just hoped that she would keep this up. Because if she did, Inuyasha thought it might just be the start of something wonderful… though he wasn't yet quite sure what that something would be.
***
It already dark by the time the two made it back to the harem. Inuyasha had been amazed and impressed by how easily Kagome had handled Chocolate. She wasn't the most high-strung horse in the royal stable, but Inuyasha still worried about how she'd cope with her after only being exposed to mixed breed village horses all her life. He needn't have worried, Kagome handled her with all the expertise one would expect to find of a general in the army's cavalry. She easily handled the mare, and even brought out a side of her Inuyasha hadn't realised Chocolate had, when the mare almost beat Lightning in a race earlier that night. The two had both clearly enjoyed their day, Inuyasha couldn't remember a time recently when he'd laughed so much. The two had taken a break after a couple of hours of hard riding to eat the picnic dinner he'd had the foresight to bring with them and the two had watched the sunset together which surprisingly Inuyasha found enjoyable in itself. The two had also talked about various things, and Inuyasha found himself quickly coming to a conclusion; he could really, really grow to like this girl. She was stubborn like him, and didn't like to admit when she was wrong but would if she had too. She truly cared about those around her and would always try to help those who needed it, even those who many others would say were not worth helping. She was intelligent, like Inuyasha had thought, and liked to think things through before making a decision, sometimes taking too long to make one and regretting it later. And, Inuyasha reflected with a small mental chuckle, she had a fiery temper and was than willing to argue on a point if someone disagreed with her. Inuyasha smiled as he thought of how Kagome had argued with him over the last of the pickled onions, how fiery her eyes had been as she screamed about how he'd already eaten seven out of the ten they'd had to start off with and that she deserved the last one. As funny as it may seem, it was the argument that sealed it with Inuyasha when he decided he liked this girl. It had been a long time since anyone had had the courage to argue with him and he liked the challenge of it. It wasn't until after she happily won and eaten the pickled onion that she's realised that maybe arguing with him might not have the best idea she'd ever had and tried to apologise. Inuyasha had just laughed.
“Thanks for taking me for a ride today, I had a good time.” Kagome said quietly as the two re-entered the harem.
“Don't sweat it, I enjoyed myself too.” Inuyasha said with a grin. “We definitely have to do it again some time, it's been a long time since someone's come that close to beating me in a race.”
“Well, next time I'll be sure to make sure it's not just an `almost'.” Kagome said with a grin as Inuyasha laughed. “I guess I should get to bed now…” Looking a little disappointed, Inuyasha couldn't help but notice, she started to head in the direction of her room when Inuyasha gently caught her by the arm.
“The night's not over yet, unless you want it to be.” Inuyasha said with a smirk. “If not, then you're heading in the wrong direction.” Kagome blushed but Inuyasha noted with pride and joy, actually seemed eager as she followed him to his suite.
It seemed no time at all before they were safely behind closed doors and their clothes were scattered on the floor. Pausing for a moment, Inuyasha just let his eyes take in the pure perfection that was Kagome. Damn, but she was gorgeous. He really owed his father one for giving her to him. He'd make it up to him one day, but for tonight at least his father was far from his mind as all his thoughts turned to the goddess standing before him. With his smirk ever-present on his face, Inuyasha picked Kagome up to gently lie her on his bed before lying over her to kiss his way from her neck down her body, delighted at the taste of her and how beautifully she was reacting to his touch.
Kagome panted and moaned with pleasure as Inuyasha kissed his way down her body. Unlike last time, this time Kagome didn't bother questioning the feeling the prince was inciting within her and just going with it. It felt too good to do anything else. Kagome couldn't help but gasp though when she felt his mouth descend on her womanhood, though quickly her gasp turned to moans and cries of delight as a new pleasure took her over.
Inuyasha smirk deepened as he flicked his tongue over her slit. He'd hadn't been sure if she would be willing to let him do this one only their second night, but her moans and quiet pleas for more pushed that fear away. Well, if she wanted more he would give he more he thought lustily as he used his fingers to pull her apart enough to delve deeper with his tongue, while simultaneously stimulating her nub with his thumb. Her cries of pleasure were like music to his ears and she tasted sweeter than honey as he continued to lap at her centre. All too soon, Inuyasha found his efforts meet with a rush of her juices pouring out of her, which he happily lapped up as much of as he could while Kagome screamed her pleasure to the heavens. By now all too hard, Inuyasha barely waited until her climax had abated before moving up her body and entering her with one quick thrust and immediately starting to move. Slightly shocked at first by his sudden intrusion, it wasn't long before Kagome was panting out requests for him to move faster and harder. Requests that Inuyasha was more than happy to fulfil.
As he pounded heavily into her, Inuyasha was quietly amazed by the woman beneath him. Only their second night together and already it seemed like they were made just for each other. Her body was a prefect fit for him, and her passion easily matched his own. Right then he knew, he would never tire of her and would forever lust after her, after this. He hoped Sango wouldn't be upset, but he knew he'd found a new favourite concubine.
All too soon Kagome screamed out his name as she had her second climax for the night, which in turn pushed Inuyasha into his and he cried out her name as he collapsed on top of her, panting. However, for Inuyasha this wasn't enough, not at all. He wanted more.
Kagome was surprised when Inuyasha pulled out of her suddenly and rolled her onto her back. She was even more so when he encouraged her onto her hands and knees. Before she had a chance to ask what he was doing, however, she had her answer as Inuyasha moved to start licking and fingering her from behind. Both dismayed and elated that he apparently wasn't finished with her yet, Kagome mewed out her pleasure as Inuyasha prepared her for his second intrusion.
Inuyasha smirked and moved to hover over her once he was certain that Kagome was ready for him again. Running his hand over her spine, he delighted in making her shiver as he moved to enter her from behind. He was extremely pleased that she didn't seem at all upset by him fucking her in this position, as it had always been somewhat of a favourite of his. He hoped that she enjoyed it too. Pushing into fully into her, he was pleased when she immediately pushed back against him in a clear sign to start moving. Inuyasha complied with her wish, and with her soon to follow requests for him to move harder and faster as well. He continued to thrust into her long after her cries became nothing more that pleasure gasps with every thrust, the sound of their flesh slapping together punctuating his every thrust.
Kagome was in pure heaven as he thrust into her from behind. He was hitting a spot deep within her in this position that made her want to orgasm with very thrust, and from his low groans and grunts of pleasure as he pounded into her he was enjoyed himself immensely as well. She hoped so. She wanted him to want her, to desire to couple with her again and again. She wasn't sure if she could handle it if he threw her aside. Gods help her, only her second night with him and she was becoming addicted to this.
Kagome could feel her body preparing for a massive orgasm, as he continued to hit that spot deep inside her with a passion. Her panting grew ever heavier and just when she thought she couldn't take much more, something inside her exploded as she cried out in pleasure and her body clamped down on his. Inuyasha thrust a few more times before he let out a cry that sounded almost like a howl and collapsed over her back as his own climax hit. Kagome tried to support their combined weight on her trembling arms but felt herself quickly start to lose that battle. Sensing this, Inuyasha took hold of her around her middle and gently rolled them onto their side.
Still buried deep within her, Inuyasha grinned to himself when after a few minutes Kagome's breathing eased out and he realised that she was still asleep. Obviously he'd worn her out, but damn if she didn't give it her all keeping up with him. He would let her sleep. After that second time he now felt satisfied, there was no reason not to let her enjoy her well-earned rest. Besides, they would have plenty of chances to try this again at later dates he thought with a tired smirk. With that thought in mind, he buried his face in Kagome's hair and let himself drift off.
AUTHOR'S NOTES
I had originally wanted to have more talk about horses in this chapter, where Kagome actually uses the correct horse term thus proving her knowledge of the subject. However, I unfortunately don't know enough horse terms to do so properly and the horse-based novels I used to own which I had planned to use for inspiration seem to have mysteriously disappeared. I did the best to could to get through that section, but I'm not peculiarly happy with the way it turned out. I might go back and change it one day, but for now I guess it'll have to do.
