InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Harsh Changes ❯ Chapter Four ( Chapter 4 )
Harsh Changes
Chapter Four-To That Which is Innocent
Kagome rummaged through her room, gathering things she needed. Looking though her closest, she deemed only a few outfits necessary, since she wouldn't be able to fit in them once she started showing. She waited patiently in till everyone was asleep before slipping out of her room, quite a mission on her hands.
A voice in her head kept telling her she was being foolish. It kept repeating itself over and over again, pointing out what a childish thing it was to run away from her problems like this. She couldn't just leave them behind. They would follow her like a horde of soul destroying demons. But what other choice did she have? She couldn't stay here. This was her decision and nothing was going to change her mind about it.
She creeps out into the hallway, cursing the very sound of her breath. What would she say if her mother caught her sneaking around like this? This wasn't going to look good. She passed her mother's bedroom. It was incredible difficult to just pass by there, knowing she may never see her mother again. But she had to. She had to.
She went into the kitchen, gather up Ramon and medicine. She was force to find the items in complete darkness, before she figured out the light of the fridge was not very disturbing. Besides if she was caught, she could merely blame it on a sweet tooth. She took as much as she could carry in her arms, and then headed back to her room, dropping her load on her bed.
She wandered back into the hall, heading to the living room. She took a few small blanket, just in case she needed them, grabbed a few pictures from on top of the TV. One was of her entire family, including her father. The other was just of Kagome and her mother, when Kagome was very small.
She felt tears in her eyes, but she quickly tucked the keepsakes away in the blankets, partly to protect them and partly to protect herself. It was strange; she had packed her bag before, but never for any return trip. Things she wouldn't have normally been caught dead without now didn't seem so important.
Her last trip was to the bathroom, gathering the last of her supplies. As she went through the cabinets and drawers, taking up shampoo, soap, Q-tips, toilet paper and all the feminine napkins she could find, figuring once the baby was born, that problem would be her biggest concern. She took a few towels and a thing of perfume, only heaven knows why. It not like she'll be in business to have tons of dates or anything. Maybe it was because it was the birthday gift Souta had bought her.
Then she looked under the sink and to her surprise found baby powder, baby lotion and baby shampoo. She fell to her knees. It was from when Kagome did a little babysitting. Her mother bought it, just in case. She ended up never needing to use it, the seals weren't even broken. Man, what did fate have against her? Why did they want her to cry so much?
A rush of emotions course through her, what was she thinking? She can't run away. A shaky hand lay unnatural against her thigh, reminder her of her injuries. Physical and emotional. Could she really do this? Kagome realized she was now starring at the dreaded items like if she glared hard enough they would burst into flames, therefore ending her heartache. That would be it. Everything would be OK and she could forget about running away. She would go to bed and forget about all of it.
She shook her head, scooping up the last of her supplies, those baby items and disappearing into her room. The yellow bag quickly filled up with supplies it normally didn't have. She made one last survey of the house. Not so much for supplies, just to say goodbye. Goodbye to her family, goodbye to her life, goodbye to her mother. She made her way to the well house.
The old wood shrine looked positively evil as it stood there in the moonlight, like some monster with its mouth gaped open, just waiting for something foolish enough to venture inside. She laid a sweaty hand on the aged wood, letting the feel of it soak into her memory. This maybe the last time, she would see this place. If she truly was making this her decision, then this place would only be visited in her memory and she wanted to make sure she had a good impression of it.
Her mind made one last desperate plea for her to think it over. Did the baby mean that much to her that she would be willing to turn her back on her own time, her own family? Did anyone mean that much to her? She let out a heavy sign, before pushing herself off from this place and heading down the stairs. She glared down the dark tunnel, quickly throwing herself over before she lost her nerve to do this.

"InuYasha, are you OK?" the strange creature yelled out.
Did she want to be killed? Drawing attention to herself like that, was only begging him to kill her, InuYasha at first planned to play with her, since she seemed so intent on finding him, but the wind changed direction and her scent came drifting up to him. She smelled so familiar. He knew he knew that scent from somewhere, his mind only searching for a moment. A familiar scent was either an enemy or a bitch, the only two scents that really mattered besides prey. He knew this was no enemy scent, he enjoyed it too much. So, she is either a bitch or a prey. Tasting her blood would solve the mystery. He let out a deep growl to catch her attention, causing her to jerk around; fear now seeped into her sweet scent. He found that amazingly arousing. He sure hoped she was a bitch, he thought to himself as he dropped down from the branches. She gasped when she saw him, backing away like a scarred animal. She opened her mouth, but he got to her first pouncing onto her, slamming down to the ground. He quickly went to nuzzling her neck searching for a soft spot to taste. When he found it, he bite down, the sweet liquid filling his mouth, he growled satisfactory, she was a bitch, a bitch in heat no less. He could not pass up this opportunity. He would make this bitch his bitch.

InuYasha found himself at the edge of the village, the people beginning to start their day. They just went through their day, like nothing happened. Like everything was OK. For a quick moment he envied them and wished he could say the same. That everything was OK.
Suddenly he caught a familiar scent on the breeze. Kagome. What the hell was she doing back? Why did she come back? No way had the damn jewel meant that much to her. A voice, a terrible scratchy voice, offered him a reason.
"Maybe her family abandoned her. Maybe you have shamed her out of her own home. Think of that."
And he did, what other reason would possible cause her to come back. He was about to take off when he remember her hurt wrist. How was she going to climb up the well? Maybe if no one came to help her, she'd go back. But the idea of just leaving her there seemed wrong.
He searched for Miroku, who was sitting outside of Kaede's hut. InuYasha landed almost silently on the roof, at first not sure how to just tell him to go get Kagome. But Miroku made the first move, gazing up at him.
"What's wrong, InuYasha?" he asked.
"Kagome's back." was all he could muster before the urge to run came back and he took off for the woods again.
Miroku looked blankly at the spot that once held the hanyou. What did he say? Was he serious? Kagome wouldn't have come back, not so soon at the least. It hadn't even been two days. Worry played across his figures as he lifted himself up. Kaede appeared from inside her hut.
"Did I hear correct?"
"Yes, Lady Kagome is back."
"Miroku, this has a dark ring about it. To be gone so long and to come back so soon-"
"I know, but whatever the reason, we will have to deal with it. I will go get her."
"Find Sango, take her with you. Kagome trust Sango."
The statement was answered with a nod as Miroku went off to search for Sango.
Kagome just sat at the bottom of the well crying. She was so stupid. She couldn't climb up the well with a stupid yellow bag as full as it was. What was she thinking? She couldn't even get herself up high enough to go back. She was going to starve to death in the stupid well.
She really had lost her mind, to think she could just run away. That'll solve everything. Just jump down the well and everything would be fine. Well, everything wasn't fine. She was stuck. Why didn't she think of it when she was filling her stupid bag to the brim?
Suddenly, the sound of footsteps, faint footsteps came to her attention. She quickly dried her eyes and started to yell. Praying it wasn't her friends. She didn't want to have to explain herself to them, not yet. Her mind hadn't come up with an excuse yet.
But fates must have been listening because two head popped over the edge. Miroku and Sango. Why them? Why someone a little more uncomfortable couldn't have shown up? Where Naraku? Couldn't have he had come? Come on, there has to be someone out there that could make this moment even more embarrassing? She let out a defeated sign, before forcing a smile.
"Hi!" she cried up, "Could someone give me a hand?"

Miroku had left with Kagome in his arms. It was just Sango and InuYasha; her first instinct was to beat the shit out him. But Kagome's words were still ringing in her ears.
"Don't hurt him, leave him alone."
How the hell Kagome held any emotion beside pure hatred for him was beyond Sango. He was just sitting up against a tree, his pants put on hastily, his white undershirt still pressed into the mud. His breathing was choppy and unnatural and he was just starring into space. How dare he just sit there like that? Without even thinking, she walked up to him, slapping him across the face. This temporarily shocks him from his daze and he gazed up at Sango, his eyes still blank, offering her no insight into his emotions.
"You bastard. You dirty little haft-breed."
InuYasha eyes lowered to her shaking fist, expecting them to hit him again. He expected her to kill him.
"I'm not going to hurt you. Not that I don't want to. Not that it wouldn't bring me great pleasure to see you bleed to death right here."
Sango's words echoed in the forest, making InuYasha shiver. Why wasn't she going to kill him? If that what she wanted, he didn't have the ability to fight back, it not like she needed to defend herself, his mind basically shut down on him, refusing to work. It just abandons him.
"Do you want to know why I'm sparring your life?"
She was silent, waiting for an answer. All she got was the same blank look. It made her mad when he looked at her like that, so she slapped him again.
"Because Kagome told me not to. She told me to leave you alone. Remember that, you monster."
She had to leave; her angry was getting too heated, her rage getting too deep. She left him there, just starring into space.
"Kagome told her to leave me alone?"

The walk to the village was very quite. Kagome forced small talk, trying to act as if nothing had happened. She asked where Shippou was and if he missed her. Of course he did and he was some where around. She talked about what good weather they had been having and how she couldn't say that about the modern era. But Miroku saw right through it. Something was wrong.
"Lady Kagome. Why have you come back so soon?"
She winced at the question. No, not yet. She almost had an answer but she still needed some time. She shook her head, why did they have to ask? What did it matter? Didn't they like her company any more? She gazed up the monk's face, a look of pure concern and worry. No, it wasn't that they didn't want her company. They were worried about her.
"My family had gone on vacation. I didn't want to stay in that house all by myself. Is that so wrong?"
"It would have been best." he said shortly, letting the bluntness hit Kagome.
He truly didn't mean to be so rude. He just needed her to understand. She didn't owe this group anything. She had a right to go home and rest. In fact, she had the right to go away and never come back. Miroku was only concern about Kagome well being.
"It would have been best." the words echoed painfully in Kagome's head.
She looked away from him. That wasn't the point, stupid monk. That wasn't the point. She didn't want to be alone. That was a believable lie. Wasn't it? It explained why she was here. Dread rose up in her chest. Well, it was believable for a little bit, any way. After that, she would start having problems. Oh, how the problems were just going to pile up after a few weeks of lies and sneaking around. She almost started shaking from the very fear of those problems.
Her eyes darted up to Sango, who was giving her the strangest look. Kagome let a weak smile play on her lips, but Sango didn't return it. By the way she was gazing at Kagome; Kagome had the feeling that she wouldn't have to wait for trouble to start. Sango eyes had a dark shadow about them and as much as Kagome wished it, she knew what that dark shadow meant. Sango didn't believe her.
