Harsh Changes
Chapter Six-In the Wake of Turmoil
Kagome woke up to the moon starring down at her. At first, her surroundings were alien and unfamiliar. Then she realized where she was. She was in Kaede's hut, but had no memory of the move from the hot spring to here. Her body felt weak and her head felt light. What had happened? Why was she here? The last thing see remembered was . . .
She had completely lost it, flashes of her crying, screaming, and sobbing to herself come floating to her mind. What did she do? Made of fool of herself, that's what she did, made a complete fool of herself. How could she have acted that way? Why did she lose herself like that? She pushed herself up, straightening her spine as she sat up in complete blackness. The dark room began to spin slightly and her trembling hands seek her forehead to steady herself.
"Are you OK?" a voice from the black void asked her.
Her body jerked in surprised fear and she searched the blackness in a haste seeking the identify of the voice. Finally seeing the dark outline against the moonlight, her heart began to slow from it break-neck speed, her breath started to resume it work of providing her with oxygen. The familiar outline of the monk shifted slightly, debating coming closer to her.
"I'm sorry I scared you."
"No, you-you just surprised me. That's all."
"Are you OK?" he asked again, his voice teeming with the same concern he felt in his heart.
Kagome let out a haft hearted huff, which sounded empty in the darkness.
"You must think I'm insane."
"No, I don't."
"I'm fine." she let a few more flashes of her behavior pass through her mind's eye, "Just . . . embarrassed and . . . ashamed."
"There no reason for either."
"Why not? I-I acted like a completely idiot."
"You acted with what anyone would have under these circumstances."
There was a dark silence. She felt cold regardless of the warm spring air outside, his kindness, as much as his might have wished it to help, only made her feel more of a fool. She picked herself up, standing up in the dark room, which moved around randomly, trying to knock her off balance. Miroku quickly came to steady the wobbling Kagome.
"I'm fine." she repeated, trying to push away his gracious stability.
"Kagome, you should still rest."
"No, I've been asleep too long. I-"
"Kagome, in your condition-"
She froze at the word 'condition,' causing the monk to also freeze in his movement. He knew she was pregnant. Why was she surprised? She had been mumbling and talking to herself like a mad woman. Sango asked one question and Kagome went off on a rant, completely losing her composure. Her friend had broken her thin defensive practically on accident. What Sango must think of Kagome after this? The whole damn village probably knows. The whole damn world. Even. . .
"Oh, no." she gasped out loud, feeling her knees give in. "Does he know? Does he . . ."
Miroku knew instantly what she meant. InuYasha. Did InuYasha know she was pregnant? As she collapsed again, he held her tighter, fearful she might break down again. Not that she didn't have a right to. But she didn't start crying again. Instead, every inch of her became stiff. He looked at her face to see that she looked like she was going to be sick.
"Are you OK?"
"I need to be alone." she whispered, "I need to be by myself. Could you leave?'
"Sure, Kagome. But I know where Sango is, if you want me to go get her."
"No, I just need some time by myself. I'll be fine. I just need some time."
He nodded and let go of her slowly, making sure she was firmly against the floor before standing up. He watched her, kneeled on the floor, her breath coming in shallow gulps. A part of him didn't think it was such a good idea to leave her alone like this, so emotional fragile. But she had asked him to leave, and a forced male presence was the last thing she needed.
"If you need anything, I'll be close by." he offered as he left the hut.
She merely nodded, barely even hearing his voice over the buzzing in her head that keep telling her that InuYasha knew. InuYasha knew she was pregnant. He must hate her for this, for being so weak, fear, and despair, angry. She didn't even know how she felt. All she knew was that she would never be the same. Her world would never be the same.
Sango had her own episode once Kagome was well in her seduced sleep. Ranting and raving, she had never been so mad. Even with her brother, it was simpler than this. The turmoil she felt then was at least a private battle between her own minds. Kagome didn't have that luxury. Her fight involved too many people, affected too many lives. She was forced to face the world like this.
All this yelling made Shippou a nervous wreak. In about three minutes he found out that InuYasha had hurt Kagome and now Kagome was going to have a baby. It didn't all add up in his head, but he was still reeling from when Kagome came up from the hot springs all upset. He was still clinging to Kaede.
"Stop it." Kaede commanded.
"No! Did you see her?"
"Sango." interrupted Miroku
"Look at her. Look what he did to her. Why is no one going after that-that dirty-"
"Sango, that enough." Kaede cried out, breaking Sango's angry shout with her own, "That will solve nothing."
Sango threw fire from her eyes at the old woman before realizing what she was doing. Her body felt like she spent the day fighting. She was losing her mind, too. She just wanted to make things better. She wanted to just make everything right again. Her body slumped down against the side of the hut that Kagome was encased in. Never in her life had she felt so completely helpless and out of control.
Miroku looked over at Kaede, hoping for some reassuring expression. But she was off in her own troubled thoughts. This news, this complicated the matter, that's for sure. Kagome couldn't just leave and get better. She was stuck here, and what's worse she blamed herself for this, completely convince she could have stopped it. He shook his head, trying to clear his mind.
"Well, things have got to be done." he said, attempting to call for action.
"Yes." Kaede agreed.
For a moment, no one knew what to add. No one knew what to do. This was a delicate situation with Kagome's well-being in the balance. Not to mention, everyone else's. But the silence became stagnate. Someone had to say it.
"InuYasha must be informed."
"I'll do it." Sango said abruptly.
"Sango," Miroku whispered, "You are in no shape to-"
"Don't worry, Monk. I'm not going to kill him. I realize what he means to Kagome. If I didn't, he would be dead by now. His life is safe."

In her current position, on her knees with her arms pressed against her back, her face pressed into the dirt, she could do little more than that crying. That was fine with him. As long as she stayed still, she could make any damn sound she wanted. He entered her in one swift movement, causing her to cry out, shivers ran down her and he growled at her. He started to move in and out of her, with as much force as he pleased.
"It hurts, InuYasha. Please sto-"
He bit into the flesh of her back, licking up the blood. It was filled with fear and pain. It tasted wonderful. He went faster, feeling something building inside him. He like the feeling, he wanted it. He wasn't even sure what it was, but he was sure he wanted it. He loved the feel of her; she was so small and tight around him. It made him bark satisfactory.
"InuYasha. Please stop." she gasped in between tearful sobs.
He let go of her hands, using his body instead to hold them still against her back, her left wrist lying so unnaturally. His hands went to her hips, moving them in the same rhythm he was going. Blood dripped down her thighs where his claws dug into the soft flesh. The feeling in his loins hit its peak and he bite even harder drawing up a hunk of skin, as he felt himself exploded inside her. A deep loud moan was breathed into her bleeding back. He liked very much the feeling that ran through him. Her legs slumped against his hands and her back curved as she let the muscles in her stomach and back relax. Laughter vibrated in his chest. Did his bitch think it was over? She started shaking, her back stiffen again in fear. No, bitch. It was far from over.

InuYasha saw Sango out of the corner of his eye. She was heading, with great conviction, in his direction. Out of reflex, he stood up on his branch, intending to leap into the darkness of the forest, out of reach of Sango. But she screamed out his name, making it sound like a vicious battle cry.
He froze. By the burning look of hatred in her eyes, InuYasha was sure she was here to kill him. Since that night, she avoided him to keep herself from fulfilling the threats in her mind, since Kagome had asked her to leave InuYasha alone. Kagome must have come back for revenge. She must have changed her mind about sparing his life. His eyes narrowed on Sango's form as it neared him. That must be it. She was here to finally kill him.
He dropped from the tree. He deserved to die and if that was what Kagome wanted, she should get it. He just stood there, waiting for the blow that was sure to come. InuYasha stole a glance at Sango, and to his surprise, saw she had no weapon. What was she planning on doing? Beating him to death? Man, what a painful way to go.
He didn't look at her as she walked up. He just stood there, under the tree, waiting for her to arrive. His eyes had a look of surrender in them Sango had never seen before, ever. And it made her furious, before she could stop herself, her hand flung out and slapping him sharply across his face, causing his hair to fan out.
"Ow." he whimpered, the look of surrender being replaced with confusion.
Why did she do that? Sango for a moment just glared at the beast, which had his clawed hand up to the red mark on his face. Gods, how she wanted to just hurt him. How much she wanted to make him pay for what he did. Maybe it was a mistake for her to come and break the news to him. She wasn't going to be understanding.
"Monster." she breathed out harshly.
The insult seemed out of place as far as InuYasha was concerned. If she was going to kill him, just do it. Why was she taking her time to make conversation? He wasn't in the mood to have mind-games played on him.
"Damn it, do what you came here to do!"
"I'm trying to."
Another round of silence and blazed starring from Sango as she tried to settle the boiling angry inside her chest, trying to prevent her from doing what she wanted to do to him. She had to continue to reminder herself of Kagome. Of what Kagome needed right now and to push aside what she wanted.
"InuYasha . . ." Sango said, trying to let the hatred drain from her voice, but to no avail.
He hadn't heard his name spoken by Sango since the incident. His name had become 'monster,' 'vile beast,' 'haft-breed' and other equal hateful insults. Frankly, he had gotten use to the names, beginning to answer to them more than his own name, saying that one word had now completely confused him. She wasn't here to kill him, was she? What was she doing here?
"Kagome is . . ."
Kagome. What was wrong with Kagome? He felt panic dance on his brain. Something was wrong with her. His eyes darted up to Sango's. The fire was still there, but it no longer held the violence it once had. She was known just disgusted with his very presence.
"This should have been good news, but since. . . Damn it all to hell."
"Just tell me what's wrong with Kagome."
"She's with child."
"What?" he said.
Sure, he knew what 'with child' meant. But it was in the wrong context here. Wasn't it? Maybe 'with child' had another meaning he wasn't aware of. When Sango said 'she's with child' she didn't mean that. She didn't mean that Kagome was . . . No, she didn't mean that.
Sango glared at him. What did he mean by 'what'? She was speaking the same language he was. What the hell did he think she meant? 'With child' was not that difficult of a concept to understand. What an idiot! What a bumbling moron! Another hard slap came across his face.
"She pregnant, you bastard. She's going to have a baby, your baby! What the hell did you think I was talking about?"
She did mean it that way. The words bounced in his head for a long time before they finally began to get absorbed into his mind. The world stopped spinning. Everything stopped. She did mean Kagome was pregnant. Pregnant. Kagome was . . .
He took a step back, his eyes reflecting fear and terror. Sango's eyes widen in complete disgust. He was going to run. The bastard was going to take off on Kagome. She reached out to the panicking hanyou and yanked him back to his original spot.
"Don't you dare!" she hissed, the violence returning to her eyes.
But the panicked looked didn't leave him. He was almost shaking. This was not happening. Kagome? Pregnant? With his pup? No, how the hell could fate be so cruel? How? What did he mean how? He knew how. He knew how and he knew why.
"InuYasha. I have no respect for you. After what you did to Kagome, you're lucky that I didn't rip you apart. Do you hear me? Lucky to be breathing. But now, not only am I forced to let you live after what you've done, the horrible thing you've done; I also have to help you take care of Kagome. Bastard, you have to take care of her."
She let out a forced breath to calm herself, trying to understand. But it was failing her. All she could see was InuYasha sprinting off into the woods, never to be seen again, leaving Kagome all alone. But she had to settle down. She had to convey the message to him, had to make him understand.
"No matter how much it burns me to see you alive, Kagome needs you."
Sango tighten her grip on him, making sure he didn't try to jerk away.
"Kagome needs you to take care of her."
