Kagome steps out of the woods and stops dead in her tracks. Inuyasha and Kikyo were holding each other beneath Inuyasha’s tree. The embrace was not that of friends, but of lovers. She would have turned away of embarrassment , if it had not shocked her so. Kikyo sensing her presence looks her in the eyes and grins an evil , knowing smile.

Keeping eye contact with Kagome, she asks, “Do you love me Inuyasha?”

Pulling her closer to him running his long nails through her hair. “Of course I love you. I love you more than anything.” He puts his hands on her shoulders and pushes her back so he can look into her eyes. “I could never love anyone the way that I love you.” He lowers his face to hers and kisses her deeply.

Kagome makes a sound as if she had been hit in the stomach. Inuyasha turns to face her. A look of shock and confusion passes over his face. Kagome is standing behind them with her bow drawn. The look on her face a cross between hate and hurt. Tears start to stream down her cheeks. Inuyasha just looks at her not knowing what to do.

Distraught Kagome drops her bow and arrow. She just cant bring herself to shoot the two of them. “Inuyasha, I hate you.” She runs back into the woods, not wanting to look back at the couple. She was sure that they had gone back to their embrace. she shook her head at the thought, tears burning her eyes.

Blindly she runs into someone. Shocked she looks up into Naraku’s face, then she feels something plunge deep into her chest. Looking down she can see blood soaking her white shirt, where Naraku has stabbed her with one of his tentacles. Kagome looks back into his smiling face, “now I will take that final shard.” Her vision starts to blur. She can feel her body slumping to the ground. As she is falling she sees a sword go through Naraku’s body, and before she passes out she sees familiar silvery-white hair.

“Inuyasha.”

Inuyasha, confused, looks at Kagome. The arrow is aimed right at his heart, but she drops the bow. “Inuyasha,” he expects to hit the ground, “I hate you.” Crying she runs off through the woods.

He goes to run after her, but the girl behind him grabs his arm with superhuman strength. He turns to face Kagome. He looks back toward the woods where Kagome ran off. “What the hell is going on here?”

“Do you love me, Inuyasha? Kagome asks again, her nails digging into the flesh of his arm. Her face melts away and she turns into Kikyo. Inuyasha cant break free from the things grasp. “Inuyasha, I love you too. More than anything.” Again her face melts away to reveal Naraku.

“You bastard.” Inuyasha spits at Naraku, still trying to pull away. “What did you do?”

Naraku pushes Inuyasha away. “Silly fool, while you were professing your undying love to Kagome, the real Kagome saw you in the arms of Kikyo. But it did not go quite as planned.” Naraku grins at Inuyasha. “I had hoped she would put an arrow right through your heart, like your beloved Kikyo. The only thing is that she loves you far to much to do that. Even though you betrayed her.”

Inuyasha draws his sword. “I will kill you.”

“Yes, but not before I kill that bitch, Kagome. She will meet her death very soon, and it will be all your fault. Tell me Inuyasha, how does it feel to know that both the women you love are dead because of you?”

Inuyasha growls and swings his sword to cut Naraku’s head off, only to discover that it was one of his puppets. “Damn you bastard.” He runs in the direction that Kagome went off in, following her scent. “Kagome please don’t die. I cant take losing you.”

“Kagome.” Inuyasha yells as he runs through the woods trying to find her.

“Inuyasha?” The large two tailed cat lands in front of him. Sango and Miroku jump off Kirara’s back, and run over to Inuyasha.

“Where’s Kagome?” Sango sees the worried look on Inuyasha’s face.

“Get out of my way.”

Sensing something wrong, he sees the manic look on Inuyasha’s face. Miroku grabs Inuyasha. “What is going on?” He stops suddenly, looking around the woods. “I can sense evil.”

“Naraku.” Inuyasha growls and dashes forward through the trees. The others take off behind him. When they catch up to him, he is kneeling down, looking at something in the leaves. Sango kneels in front of him to see what it is.

Laying on the ground is Kagome’s vial with the jewel shard in it. All around the leaves surrounding it, is blood. A lot of blood.

Sango looks at Inuyasha’s face. She can see so much emotion in his eyes. She’s not sure if he is about to cry or yell out in anger. “Inuyasha, what happened.”

He stands up with his back to his friends. His fists tight to his sides. Inuyasha tilts his head into the air sniffing. He can smell that Kagome and Naraku were here, but he can also smell something else. “Sesshoumaru.”

Kagome wakes up with a start. She sits up, but groans and grabs her chest in pain. “Inuyasha.”

“Girl, I do wish that you would stop calling out his name.” A deep voice growls. She snaps her head to the side to face Sesshoumaru. standing beside her. “He is not here, and if he were he would be dead.”

She tries to stand, but the pain in her chest is so severe she can only get to her knees. “Where am I, and why am I here with you?” She pants, looking around the unfamiliar room. She is on a futon, covered in furs, in the middle of the room with Sesshoumaru’s robes as a blanket.

“I saved you from Naraku and brought you here. I tended your wounds and put fresh clothes on you.” He nodded to a pile of clothing. “Your things were far too torn and bloody.”

Realizing that must mean... She looks down, her uniform is gone and in its place is a beautiful old fashioned kimono. She crosses her hands across her chest, her undergarments were also gone.

“I rather think these new clothes suit you. Dressed like that you are actually kind of pretty.” As an afterthought. “For a human.”

Kagome feels a flush run all over her body. Her face hot, anger takes over. “You had no right.” She tries to get up again . “My clothes...” Pain over takes her and she gets dizzy. Sesshoumaru. quickly comes over and lays her back down onto the futon. He pulls his robe up over her to keep her warm.

“You, girl are just as hard headed as my fool brother.” He stands back up and turns his back to her. “Your body means nothing to Sesshoumaru. Where is he anyway? I was rather surprised to find his plaything all alone in the forest, with Naraku.”

His callous tone and the way he kept calling her girl, irritated her, but plaything. She got ready to defend Inuyasha, until she thought about what happened the night before. Inuyasha in the arms of Kikyo, declaring his undying love for her. Now the pain in her chest was not only from her wound, but from her broken heart. “I am no longer with that dog.” She said bitterly. The anger in her voice made Sesshoumaru. turn back to look at her. “When I can get up and move. I am going back to my own time and never come back here,”

“So you and the Halfling had a falling out?”

She closes her eyes. Tears threatened, but she would not let them come. “You could say that. He made his choice. He chose to be with Kikyo. He has her now, so why should I stay around?”

“Inuyasha choose the priestess over you. I always knew he was a fool.” Kagome catches a flash in his eyes. He turns to leave. “Rin and Jaken will be back in a few hours and start dinner. Try to get a little rest before they get back.”

She watches him leave the room. Kagome is shocked by his reaction about Inuyasha and Kikyo. Well for that matter she is shocked by everything he is doing for her. She thought he could not stand her. She was in to much pain to contemplate the situation. She snuggled back into the fur and pulls the robes up under her chin, smelling Sesshoumaru’s scent. It was so much like Inuyasha, woodsy and fresh. She feel into a deep sleep, oblivious to the golden eyes watching her from the doorway.
