Chapter 4 [Arguments]
Kagome's eyelids slid open, a yawn escaped her lips and she stretched her arms out on either side of her, feeling her fingers brush against another persons skin. She paled slightly and turned her head, meeting a pair of very familiar golden orbs. She jumped slightly and narrowed her eyes at the hanyou. `So I can touch him yet I can't hit him with a book, hey?' she thought bitterly. “What the hell do you think you are doing?!” she snapped at him, pulling the covers up over her head.
“Waiting for you to get up, Hime-sama.” Inuyasha said with a smirk. “How are the diamond cutters today?”
Kagome felt her cheeks heat up, but it lasted for only a moment. She shot up and glared at him hatefully. “Fuck off and leave me alone, dammit!” she yelled, trying to shove him but her hand went right through. `I guess he can choose to let me touch him or not.' She thought as she drew her hand away. “Get the hell out of my room!”
“You mean MY room.” Inuyasha hissed.
“No, you have no room. This is my room, and that's my storage area,” she said, pointing to the sliding door that led to the attic. “You have no room, you are just here. You…came with the house.”
Inuyasha growled. “You know I'm tired of you already!” he snapped.
“Likewise.” Kagome shot back, the strap of her blue tank top falling down over her shoulder.
“Then why don't you leave?!”
“I would but I can't!” Kagome screamed.
Inuyasha paused, a little taken back by the miko's outburst. Kagome grumbled as she stood up, fixing the strap of her tank top and fixing the legs of her matching pajama pants so that they were rolled up to her thighs. “Do you really think I want to be here?” she mumbled, glancing back at him.
She waited for him to answer, but when no response came she frowned in annoyance and grabbed her shampoo and body wash off her dresser. “I'd rather be anywhere than here.” Was her final statement before she exited the room, shutting the door behind her.
Kagome quickly entered the bathroom, locking the door behind her. She grumbled to herself as she shed off her pajamas. `I don't want to be here, yet I don't want to be home anymore either.' She thought, thinking about the night before when she had called Hojo.
`What a jerk…he promised he'd help make this work out for us.' Kagome wiped her teary eyes as she turned on the hot water in the shower. `And I can't believe Yumi would do this to me…she was one of my best friends.' She let the tears of hurt and betrayal run down her face as she stepped into the shower and pulled the white curtain across.
`Its things like this that makes me glad that I refused to fuck him.' She thought as she let the steaming water run down over her body. Kagome closed her eyes and ran her hands back through her hair, helping to wet it before gliding the shampoo through it. `It would have been such a waste…such a wonderful…beautiful waste.'
Kagome closed her eyes and sank to her knees, putting her hands over her face as she let out long sobs. The water washed the shampoo down over her hands, shoulders, and chest; but she continued to cry. Nothing made sense to her anymore; she had given up the life she loved the most just to end up in some crummy old shrine that turned out to be haunted by the past owner. And now that the realization hit her that she has lost the only person that ever really mattered to her to her best friend…nothing seemed worth going on for.
“Why me?!” she sobbed, shaking her head. “Why me? Dammit, why?” she sat back, letting the water run down over her, taking the rest of the shampoo with it. Her eyelids fluttered as water came into contact with them, but that was the only movement she made aside from the rising and falling her chest did with every breath she took.
“Something out there hates me.” She muttered dryly. “Something doesn't want me to be happy…it's ruining my life.” She reached up and grabbed her body wash, squirting some out into her hands. She soaped herself down only to have the water wash it away seconds after.
`Everything has to happen for a reason…its like Kaede said…this was no accident.' Kagome thought, turning off the water and standing up. She reached out behind the curtain and grabbed a towel, she wrapped it around herself and stepped put o the shower.
`I just have to find out more about Inuyasha…maybe it'll help me clear all of this madness up.'She wrapped another towel around her head and left the bathroom, her head down. `I mean honestly…where does he get off bossing me around like he does? I swear if he wasn't dead I'd kill him.'
She opened the door to her room and stepped in, closing the door behind her. He was still on the bed, only he was laid down and his eyes were closed. `I guess ghosts do sleep.' She thought as she sat on the bed, looking at him.
`He don't look like the typical Hollywood ghost.'She thought as she examined him. He really didn't though, the man that lay before her was full, non-transparent. If she didn't know any better she would have guessed that he was a living person. Even when stuff flew through him, he remained full, just the soft ripple effect in the area that was being passed through.
Kagome let out a low sigh as she took her hair out of the towel and started to brush it out, her eyes on the dresser mirror in front of her. `I guess I have myself a permanent roommate now. Heh, great. Just the kind I don't need too…an arrogant, ignorant, loud mouthed-…'
“Do you always get that look of total pissed-off-ness while you comb your hair?” Inuyasha asked as he opened his eyes to look at her, a small smirk on his face. “Or are you just deep in thought about how much you want me gone?”
“You're a bastard.” Kagome muttered as she set her brush down on her bed, looking back at him angrily. “Now get the fuck out of here, I have to get dressed.”
“Shy?”
“Fuck off, hanyou!” Kagome yelled at him. “Now fly the fuck somewhere so I can get dressed!” that `somewhere' was being very well indicated by Kagome's finger, which pointed at the attic door. `I'm glad I managed to see him when I did, if not I might have had an invisible man watching my every move.' She thought bitterly, watching as Inuyasha shrugged and went to the attic.
Kagome waited, just to make sure he was really gone, then stood up and let her towel slide to the floor. She quickly put on a pair of purple lady-briefs and a matching under wire bra. She glanced at the attic door before she turned around and bent over to one of the boxes, taking out a short blue sundress.
She slipped it on quickly, adjusting the straps so that they covered over her bra straps. The dress rose high on her thighs, but was loose and comfortable. She took another look in the mirror, flicking her moist hair so that it was all hanging down her back before she shoved on her straw sandals and marched from the room.
“Onee-chan?” Souta peeped from his bedroom door.
Kagome turned in surprise, it wasn't like Souta to be up this early…well it wasn't like Kagome either, but Souta never had a pair of amber eyes staring at him the all while he was sleeping like she had.
“Yeah?” Kagome asked in a rather cool collective manner.
“Did you check the attic yet?”
Kagome studied her little brothers eyes for a moment, full of wonder and sleep. The poor boy must have been up all night thinking about the boy he saw up there. She nodded and shrugged. “Nothing out of the ordinary, Souta.” She told him as she proceeded to the stairs. “Don't worry about it.”
She waited to her Souta's bedroom door shut before she gave a shudder. She was going to have to make sure Inuyasha stayed out of Souta's hearing and sight range. `I don't want to have him worrying about that damn hanyou too.' She thought as she skipped down over the stairs, her hand gliding down the railing.
“Mom, I'm up.” She said as she entered the kitchen. She paused at what she saw, though in some way shape and form it never surprised her.
Jakotsu was sitting on the kitchen counter and her mother was stood next to him, they were both leaned over a cookbook chatting quietly and occasionally pointed at something in the book while nodding or shaking their heads. Jakotsu was the first to see Kagome; he sat up straight, and then jumped down off the counter. “Good morning, sunshine.” He peeped.
“Ah, good morning, Kagome.” Lurea said with a smile, closing up the cookbook. “What are you doing up so early, dear?”
“I heard you guys talking.” Kagome lied with a small smile. She turned her eyes to Jakotsu. “Your up and out awful early.”
“I've always been an early bird.” Jakotsu explained with a small laugh. “So, Kagome. Seeing that you're up, want to go out for breakfast? There's this killer restaurant down the street that makes the best omelet sandwiches in all Japan.”
“I can't believe you made friends with that…” Inuyasha sniffed from behind.
Kagome froze hearing the hanyou's voice, but from the looks on Lurea and Jakotsu's faces they couldn't hear or see him. Kagome cleared her throat, trying to keep the ghost out of her head. “Sure, Jakotsu. Sounds great.”
“I guess I should sat along too.” Inuyasha was standing by Kagome now, his arms stretched up over his head. “No complaints?”
Kagome gritted her teeth together, wanting to turn to the hanyou and botch him out. But she knew she'd look like a complete loon if she did.
“Okay, come on.” Jakotsu said, opening the door and heading outside.
Kagome quickly grabbed her purse, and with a small wave to Lurea she rushed out the door behind Jakotsu. Much to her dismay Inuyasha was right behind her. The whole way to the restaurant Kagome tried her best to keep up a good conversation with Jakotsu, keeping her mind away from the complaining hanyou that walked behind them.
Once at the restaurant, Jakotsu lead Kagome to a table that had two benches on either side of it, Kagome, accompanied by Inuyasha, sat on one bench, and Jakotsu took the other. Kagome watched as Jakotsu looked over at the counter towards the lady standing there.
“Chikotori, I'll have two of my regulars.” Jakotsu called out to her. She nodded and smiled as she disappeared into the kitchen. After, Jakotsu turned to Kagome and smiled. “You are going to love this sandwich, the best ever.” He reassured her.
“I take it you come here every morning.” Kagome said with a smirk.
“Yeah, I don't really like it home. So I leave in the morning and come here…and return here for my dinner and supper as well.” Jakotsu shrugged. “I only go home to sleep and that's it.”
“Oh.” Kagome nodded and watched as Chikotoru set down a tray in front of both of them with an omelet sandwich and a glass of orange juice n it. “Thank you.” Kagome said to her. Chikotori smiled and nodded then returned to the kitchen.
“Ew you're not going to eat that are you?” Inuyasha asked as he eyed Kagome's sandwich. “It looks like it took a bath in a grease tub.”
Kagome's eyebrow twitched as she picked up the sandwich. Inuyasha was right, it was a tad bit on the greasy side…but just to spite herself she took a bit bite. “Mm.” She said with a nod, looking at Jakotsu. “This is good.”
“I knew you'd like it.” Jakotsu smiled and started to eat his.
“You two are sick.” Inuyasha said as his ears twitched madly. “I'd never eat that…not even if it would bring me back.”
“You know, Jakotsu.” Kagome said, looking out the window that their table was by. “You really picked a good place for is to sit.” She waited to hear Inuyasha crash to the floor before she continued. “Lovely view of the park from here.”
“I know, it's beautiful isn't it?” Jakotsu said as he looked out the window, taking another bite of his sandwich.
“You bitch…” Inuyasha groaned from the floor.
After they left the restaurant, Kagome told Jakotsu she'd meet up with him that night at Sango's because she had some stuff to do at home. She then ran off back towards the shrine, stopping when she was out of view of him.
After stopping, Kagome turned angrily to Inuyasha and pointed an accusing finger at him. “Why the hell are you following me? Go back to the shrine! DO YOU HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO THAN TO MAKE MY LIFE A LIVING HELL?!”
Inuyasha crossed his arms over his chest and smirked. “I thought I'd like it to spend some time with you and the drama queen.”
Kagome's eyes narrowed. “You are a jerk! Go away!”
“No, I'd rather not.” Inuyasha said with a thoughtful look. “Your stuck with me, wench. Get used to it.”
Kagome groaned and turned on her heel, marching up to the shrine stairs. “I can't believe I'm stuck with you. You are the last thing I need in my life right now.”
“You'd rather be around that other fruit?” Inuyasha asked, walking beside her, his blue jeans scraping together as he walked and his white t-shirt unaffected by the little breeze that had picked up. “Or that guy that you were yelling at on the phone?”
Kagome stopped at the bottom of the stairs, her hands tightened into small fists at her sides. “Inuyasha…” she paused shaking her head. “Forget it…” she mumbled as she jogged up over the stairs.
Inuyasha watched her; surprised his face never met the ground. He sighed as he shoved his hands into his pockets and followed her, eyes on the stairs in front of him.
Kagome never went into the house; she really didn't feel like going in with her family at that moment. She needed to be alone, or try to be at least. She made her way to the shed that was located at the back of the house. She opened the door and walked in, turning on the light quickly before she sat down on the dusty floor.
There was really nothing in there; a shelf that ran right around the shed had a couple boxes on it, and there was a window in the back wall which was dusted over so bad that light could barely come through.
“You know you're a confusing bitch, right?” Inuyasha asked, leaning his shoulder on the opened door.
“Go away.” Kagome snapped at him, she angled her angry eyes up at him from where she sat. She hated him…so much. If she could tear open a gateway to hell she wouldn't hesitate tossing him down into it.
“Look I'm sorry, okay? I know that jerk-face on the phone meant something to you…what I don't know but it was something.” Inuyasha said.
“I said go away, baka!” Kagome yelled at him. “Get away from me! Now!”
“You know what? Fine, I don't give a fuck.” Inuyasha stormed away from the shed. “You try to be nice to a girl and she STILL snaps at ya! WELL YOU CAN ROT IN THAT SHED FOR ALL I CARE!”
Kagome sighed and leaned back on her elbows, shaking her head slowly. “I have no idea how I'm going to survive this…” she looked around the shed, cocking her eyebrow slightly. “But…I guess I shouldn't spend all my time here sulking…” she wiped her eyes as she stood up, dusting off her dress. “This place needs some redecorating.”
