Chapter 13

Playing Hooky

Kagome's P.O.V

InuYasha dropped me and Hojo at school and I was kind of sad at him leaving. We were about an hour late so I was happy I missed math and chemistry, my favorite ,class was next. Why was it my favorite class? Well, because Hojo or none of my friends were in there. I could finally be by myself. I then felt a warm hand wrap around mine.

"Ready to go to school." Hojo said to me with a smile.

I plastered on the fakest smile and nodded. We walked in the school and the hallways were filled with children walking or running to their second hour class. Hojo gave me a hug and kiss as he went the opposite direction to his English class. I let go a sigh of relief as I was so glad to see him go. I walked down to my locker to get my chemistry book.

"Hey, princess." I turned around to see Sango in a black skirt with a black baby tee.

"Hey, Sango how's it going."

"I'm just here to confirm that practice is at 6:00"

"Of course. So what's your next class?"

"It's chemistry."

"Really? So is mine."

"I know."

"Did you switch classes because I've never seen you in there."

"I'm in the class. It's just that the princess never notices the pauper." Then she walked off.

I opened my mouth to say something, but I decided against it. I grabbed my book and walked to class. I entered and Sango was sitting in the back and I decided to join her.

"Just because I'm on the team doesn't mean you have to be my friend."

"I want to. I don't like the ones I have now."

"They're stupid."

"You're not lying."

"So, why don't just drop 'em."

"I've tried, but they're just so clingy."

Sango giggled then I smiled.

After class me and Sango walked down the hallways talking and laughing. I was amazed at how quickly me and her were becoming friends.

"Kagome?!!!"

I cringed as I turned around only to be cornered by my friends.

"What's up guys"

"Don't give us that! You're getting married?!!" Eri screamed.

"Um...well..." was all I could come up with.

"How could you not tell us? You know what this means, right?" Ayumi said.

I shook my head.

"Shopping!!" They all screamed unison.

"I got it handled guys."

"Oh, nonsense. We're not going to let you shop alone. How about we go on Friday." Eri said.

"Um....I have plans."

"Saturday?"

I looked over to Sango and started to mouth help.

Sango nodded. "Um..I thought you were going to personally teach me the cheers." Sango interjected.

"Oh, yeah! I totally forgot." I looked at her with thankful eyes and she nodded. Little did I know I was starting something bigger.

My friends turned to face Sango. "I'm sorry, Sheila. Shopping is more important." Eri said with her hand on her hip and Ayumi and Yuka nodded.

Sango glared Eri. "My name is Sango."

"Does it matter."

Sango and Eri glared each other and closed any space that was between them.

I stepped inbetween them. "Eri, I promised Sango. We can go shopping another day. I'll call you guys."
''Alright, Kagome."

I smiled and grabbed Sango's hand and proceeded down the hallway. "I'm sorry about Eri."

"I understand how you popular girls are. Always trying to put the others down"

"I'm not like that."

"Whatever, Kagome." Sango then stormed off.

I sighed then felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around to see Hojo, Miroku, and Kouga. Hojo hugged me and placed his arm around my shoulder.

"Aww, look at the future Mr. and Mrs. Hojo Taisho." Miroku said.

"No offense, Hojo, but getting married is the equivalent of getting your dick cut off." Kouga said.

I would have agreed with Kouga if Hojo wasn't standing here or if he wasn't my ex-boyfriend.

"You can't even spell equilavent, Kouga." Hojo said defiantly

"That is true." Miroku interjected.

Kouga just folded his arms and grumbled under his breath.

"Um...honey. I have to get to my third period." I said tryin my best to get away.

"Alright, but I was wondering if you wanted to go out with me tonight like around 10."

"Oh, I don't know I have practice at six and I'm probably going to be tired."

"Really?! That's too bad. I know my dad's going to be disappointed."

I perked up at this. "Your dad is coming."

"Yeah, he arranged the whole dinner."

"Well, I guess I could come."

"Really?!"

"Of course."

Hojo leaned down and kissed me.

"Well, I better let you get to class so you won't be late."

"Okay, bye Hojo. Bye, guys." I ran down the hallway because I was going to be seriously late.

Later on at lunch I was sitting outside at the, so called, cool table. I personally didn't see anything cool about it. On the exception of me and Miroku, there was nothing but just dumb jocks and dumb cheerleaders. I looked around the table. Miroku, Kouga, and Hojo were talking about football Eri, Ayumi, and Yuka somehow obtained a wedding catalog and was showing me dresses, tablecloths, flowers, and other stupid stuff I didn't care about. I looked around the field, spotting Sango sitting by herself. I then thought about joining her.

"Kagome, what do you think about this dress."

I looked over to see Ayumi's eager eyes.

"Um..sure it great." I then got up and walked over to the corner to sit down next to Sango.

"Kagome?!!" Ayumi whined but I ignored her.

"You seem lonely."

Sango looked up at me. "Yeah, and I plan on staying that way."

"Come on, nobody wants to be alone."

"Why aren't you sitting at the cool table?"

I looked over to my friends who were yelling my name then turned back to face Sango. "Cool table? It's not cool, it's pretty boring. I'd rather sit here with you."

"Whatever."

"Really?! You're the coolest girl I've ever met."

I wasn't lying she was cool and was a funny person. I wouldn't mind being her friend instead of Ayumi, Eri, and Yuka.

"So, I'm cooler than your million dollar friends over there."

"Yeah, I can't stand any of them. I wish I could just get away."

"You want to"

I looked at her. "How?"

"Hooky."

"Hooky! We'll get caught."

"No we won't. I've never gotten caught before."

"Okay, even if I did agree to this. How will we get around? Hojo's father dropped us off. I don' have my car."

"That's okay. Just meet me at the parking lot in about 10 minutes." with that Sango got up and proceed to the the school's parking lot.

I looked over to my friends who were signaling me to come over. I walked over to the table finding them staring me down.

"What's wrong guys."

"Why were you talking to that rug muncher." Eri sneered.

"Eri, she's not a rug muncher."

"What's a rug muncher?" Yuka asked.

I just sighed and shook my head.

"Kagome, were you talking to Sango?" Miroku asked me from across the wooden table.

"Yeah."

"Can you ask her if she likes me?"

"Why won't you ask her."

"Because I'll sound desperate."

"But you are desperate, Miroku."

"Please, Kag."

I sighed. Miroku was most likely the only one at this table that was worth talking to "I'll see what I can do Miroku."

Miroku gave me a toothy grin and I shook my head.

"You're going to let Miroku get with that angst queen." Eri said.

I knew Eri was mad because she's had her eye on Miroku for a while, but she was too shy to say anything. Jus then I realized I couldn't wait a whole ten minutes so I decided to go the parking lot now.

"Um...I have to go." I said as I walked off.

"But we haven't even discussed the centerpiece." Ayumi yelled to me.

"You guys can pick it for me."

"But..."

I waved to them until they were out of my sight.

I waited in the school parking lot. It was way pass ten minutes and I was getting scared that I might get caught. Then Sango drove up to me with a silver 2003 sebring convertible.

"Nice car." I said as I got in.

"Thanks." Sang said then drove out of the parking lot.

She looked in the CD compartment. "Phil collins...ewww. Cher...ewww. Celine Dion. Doesn't she have anything good. I'll just put on the radio."

Sango turned on some heavy rock that was playing a nice guitar solo. I then began to look around the car finding it to be a little bit too neat for Sango.

"Um...Sango?"

"Yeah."

"This isn't your car, is it?"

"No. I couldn't afford anything this nice."

"Who's is it?"

"Ms. Miyagi's."

"The social studies teacher."

"Yep."

"You stole Ms. Miyagi's car! Why?!"

"First off, we needed transportation. Second, she gave me a damn D."

"Oh my god. Were going to get caught and I'm not going to get accepted into SNU then I'm going to end up an old crazy lady with seven cats"

"Calm down, Kag. We're not going to get caught. We'll have the car back and brand new before the teachers get out."

I tried to relax, but I couldn't believe what I was doing. Sango pulled up into a restaurant.

"Why are we here?" I asked.

"Since, we just skipped lunch. I decided that food wouldn't be that bad right now." Shen then got out of the car.

I sighed then followed her. We walked in the restaurant and sat at a booth.

"This is pretty nice." I said as I felt relieved of being released from my prison.

Then a young waiter with dark curly hair approached us. "How may I help you ladies?"

"You know you're kind of cute." Sango said looking the waiter up and down.

I giggled at the comment, but started to check the fine young waiter out myself.

"Well, thank you." he replied with as his face started to slightly turn red.

"Um...I think I'll have a chicken fajita and vanilla milkshake." Sango said.

"I'll have the same." I replied.

"That'll be up in just minute." He walked turned around and Sango slapped his butt.

"Don't take too long."

The waiter blushed and kept on walking. When he was out of our sight we started to laugh.

"I can't believe you did that."

"I needed some extra browine points when the bill comes."

"I've been meaning to ask you something. I know it's out of line, but do you know Miroku Houshi?"

Sango nodded. "Yeah, the kicker for football team. What about him?"

"He likes you."

"Oh, wow my dreams have come true." Sango sarcastically said.

"I'm serious."

"Kag, don't mean to be rude, but I've decided to stay away from the high school jocks. I know they're nothing but guys trying to get in girls pants."

I was about to protest but she was right. Miroku would only care about trying to have sex with her. The waiter arrived with our food and Sango licked her lips at him and I couldn't help but giggle. We began to eat our food and talk about everything.

"So, why do you hang out with your friends if you can't stand them." Sango said drinking the last of her shake.

I shrugged I really didn't know why I hung out with them. "I don't know. I can't stand my life it's a complete disaster."

"Disaster? Your life is perfect. Not to mention your perfect fiance."

"You know, too?!"

"Who doesn't know about your engagement."

"This is crazy! I don't even like Hojo. He thinks our relationship is so freaking perfect that he doesn't know that I fucked his father three times and....." I closed my hand over my mouth when I realized what I just said.

Sango did nothing but smile at me.

I let go of my mouth and stayed in complete silence before I spoke. "Did you hear all of that?"

Sango nodded.
"Are you goint to tell anybody?"

"I'm not the type of person to tell peoples secrets."

I sighed at the fact that she wasn't going to tell anybody, but I was pretty embarassed.

"I guess you aren't that perfect after all."

"Yeah, I don't even like cheerleading."

"Why would you?"

I giggled.

"So, let's get out of here."

I nodded as me and Sango stood up. She then proceeded to the door.

"Aren't you going to pay."

"Yeah, I forgot my wallet in the car." She said as she walked out of the restaurant and towards the car.

We got in and she started to quickly drive off.

"Hey, what are you doing?!" I yelled as she sped down the road.

''Getting out of here"

"What about the check?"

"What about it?"

"I can't believe you tricked me into dining and ditching."

"You have to admit it was pretty fun."

I did have to say it gave me a rush. "Yeah, I guess."

Sango laughed. "I just knew it was a bad girl somewhere deep inside you."

I laughed along with her. I decided to just relax and enjoy my day off.

"So, where to next?" Sango asked me.

I then thought about a place that I was thinking about telling her. "Um...what about the Velvet Room."

"Oooh, sounds kinky. What's the velvet room?"

"It's a poetry bar."

"Poetry?! We're not going to no damn poetry bar."

"They sell liquor and don't ask for I.D."

"Well, since you put it that way."

We arrived at the Velvet Room and it was different since it was broad daylight. I usually came at night and it was a lot mroe people here. We sat down on a couch in the far corner by the bar. A waitress that I knew walked up to us.

"Hey, Seiko!" I greeted.

"Hey, how's it going Kag. I haven't seen you in a while. So, who's your friend" Seiko said looking over to Sango.

"Her name's Sango."

"Hi, I'm Seiko!"

Sango waved at the cheery girl.

"Seiko, I'll long island iced tea."

"Alright, and what would you like."

"Um..I think I'll take an apple martini."

"Okay." Then she walked away.

"So, why do you come to this place?" Sango said looking around.

"Why do you wear black all the time?"

"Because it's the best color in the whole world."

"You know the uniforms are red."

"I also know that the money from the scholarship is green."

I giggled. "That's true."

Then Seiko cam back with our drinks. I drunk mines slowly because I didn't want to get drunk in the middled of the day. I looked up on stage finding Benjiro reciting a poem. I looked over to see Sango entranced in his words.

"So, I see you're enjoying this." I said.

"Sssh."

I smiled and deicided to be quiet and listen to him.
I am a lost child
confused
weeping
Black roses are strewn in my path
your soul leaves the inner thought
they will miss me so when i am gone
the sun is my enemy and i must flee it
could I find a lonelier place to be
gushing
i am fallen and will never rise
everything and everyone is below me
endless industrial music

After Benjiro was finished he walked off stage and everybody started to snap their fingers.

"Wow, that guy is killer." Sango said still completely in aww

"Yeah, he's okay."

"Have you ever been up there?"

"Me? Of course not. I'm not ready to tell my poems infront of people"

"So you write poems."

I blushed. "Kind of."

"I have to hear one."

I shook my head. "No, I couldn't."

"I just want to hear one."

"Let's just listen to the next poet." I said changing the subject.

Sango remained quiet and turned towards the stage. I also looked up on the stage as the M.C. was introducing someone.

"Good afternoon, soulful ladies and soulful men. We have an amateur that would like you to give him your ears and your hearts. Give it up for InuYasha Taisho."
