Healer of a Broken Heart: Charges and Guardians

A/N: I don't own Inuyasha, but I can wish…

Inuyasha stared at Momo with bewilderment in his eyes.
“Y-you're a hanyou?! And you admitted it?!”

Momo stared at Inuyasha. “Yes, Momo is a hanyou. Are you gonna beat Momo up now?” Momo glared at Inuyasha. He felt frozen to the spot. Her gaze never left his eyes. They stared at one another for a long time.

Momo looked at the clock above the window. She looked like she was waiting for something…

“3-2-1…” *rrrrriiiiiing* Lunch was over and Momo threw her trash away, and gathered her books. “Come on Inuyasha. You don't want to be late do you?” Momo smiled and walked away. “Bye Inuyasha!!”

Inuyasha sat in his spot. He felt like Momo cast a spell on him so he wouldn't move. Or, ya know, something along those lines…

That was so weird…Slowly, he got up from his chair, and walked to his next class.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

As Inuyasha reclined in his chair, he thought about that Momo girl. There was something about her that puzzled him. Of course, being as brain-dead as he was, he didn't hear the teacher's question and stuttered a bit when she called on him.

“Mr. Takahashi, what do you think the chemical balance would be?” The class stared at the dumb-struck hanyou.

“Um…I'm afraid I don't know sensei…” The teacher looked at him and continued her class.

Too bad there's still one class left…*sigh* school just drags on and on… Inuyasha found himself starring at the clock. The first day was always the slowest, and most boring…

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Inuyasha was walking to his last class so deep in thought, he hadn't recognized Miroku and Sango calling him.

“INUYASHA! HEY, MUTT!!” Inuyasha spun around and was ready to beat the crap out of whomever it was that called him a mutt.

“Inuyasha! We've been calling to you for some time now,” Sango said suddenly.

“Sorry I called you a mutt. I couldn't get your attention, and I knew that would.” Miroku apologized. Inuyasha sighed and waited for someone to speak up.

“So, what do you guys have next?”

“Community Service?” The trio asked in unison.

“What kind of class is that?!” Inuyasha asked aloud.

“I don't know, but if we're late, we'll find out the hard way.”

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

When the trio walked into the class, Inuyasha stopped and gasped. He saw a line of students: juniors, freshmen and sophomores, all waiting in the front of the class.

“Inuyasha, what's wrong?”

“Th-that's that weird Momo girl I saw at lunch!”

Sango and Miroku looked at each other and back to Inuyasha. “Momo?”

Inuyasha's gaze kept on Momo, and he didn't move. Momo saw him and waved pleasantly to Inuyasha. She had a sweet smile that said “Hi! Guess what? Your teacher has a surprise!” and Inuyasha had one of those “I don' trust you” looks.

As the teacher came in, dressed in a red polka-dotted dress that was long enough it almost touched the floor. She had blond hair and green eyes. Inuyasha figured she was an American since she wasn't youkai, and she didn't look Japanese.

“Good afternoon class!” She smiled; her glasses rising with her flush cheeks. “There is a special announcement that I must tell you! For your senior project, you must be a guardian and all of you are assigned a charge. You will be in contact with your charge throughout the school year and will have a weekly report on how everything is going, ok? I promise, it'll be a lot of fun!” She was so perky and full of energy, it made Inuyasha sick.

“I have a question, sensei! Sumimasen, sensei-sama! Momo has a question!” Momo's hand waved in the air like she was swatting at a fly.

The teacher looked over at her. “Hai? What is it, Momo-kun?” Momo put her hand down and took a breath.

*ahem* “What if we don't like our Guardians? Do we, the charges get to choose?” Momo looked at the sensei and waited for an answer.

“Um, well; if you and your guardian(s) are having a problem, talk to me, or the principal. And, actually, I will assign you to a guardian.” The teacher tried to smile, but the pouting expression on Momo's face was enough to counter that.

“Inuyasha, what if you get that girl, Momo?' Sango jested. She giggled at the horrified look on Inuyasha's face. “You're so nice! I bet you don't know anything about her.” She whispered.

“Yes, I do.” Inuyasha replied in a louder whisper. “She said she hates her family, she has no friends; kids at school hate her `cause she's a hanyou and she also said she has no friends.”

“Wow, you learned all of that from a forty-five minute lunch?” Miroku mused. He also though it was funny how Inuyasha reacted to comments like these.

“Yes, she told me all that. I'm not lying!”

They turned their attention back to the teacher, who was assigning guardians and charges. What they didn't expect was this:

“Momo, your charge is,” the teacher paused, looking at her list. “Inuyasha Takahashi.”

The trio almost stopped breathing; until Sango and Miroku nearly died of laughter.

What do you think is so dang funny?” Inuyasha said through clenched teeth.

The couple stopped laughing almost instantly. “We didn't think it would really happen,” they said, trying not to let any giggling out.

Momo walked towards Inuyasha. She still had that happy smile on her face when she got there.

“What luck; huh, Inuyasha?”
