Chapter 3
The morning had gone better than the night before, that was until Sei had decided on leaving the village and go to the restroom. At first he looked around the forest and got his bearings so that in case he fell through at a later date he could find his way to the village from the well, and he did so successfully after about twenty minutes before nature called to him and not having a bathroom nearby, or even knowing how the people went to the restroom he decided it best to go where he was. Once he got himself ready, he did his business and was actually glad that he didn't have to listen to people thundering around next door or upstairs and he relished the privacy he had. That was until after he finished and zipped himself up and heard a loud squeal and some grunts behind him.
Sighing loudly to himself he said"Shit." and turned around cautiously only to be met by a baby boar. Letting out a loud sigh he knelt down and stuck his hand out and said"Hey, there little guy. You gave me a scare there." The boar came forward and sniffed his hand and let out a loud squeal that seemed to signify that he liked him and Sei chuckled and looked around to find some mushrooms on the ground. Picking them up he checked them out and saw that they were safe to eat and gave some to the boar who greedily swallowed the fungi in Sei's hand and left him with a drool covered left hand. Smiling at the baby while feeling a bit gross from the drool he was about to reach out and pet the boar when a rumbling voice asked"What are you doing with my child"
Looking around him Sei noticed the trees around him uprooting and the small boar squealing happily as it's mother came into view. The female was massive, easily clearing the roof of the tallest building in the village, with large tusks sticking out of its mouth and hooves bigger than his mid-section. Slapping himself mentally Sei put his hand sup and said"I meant no harm to your young. He just snuck up on me and I gave him some mushrooms." He easily caught on that telling the mother this was a bad idea as she roared loudly and said"You gave him those to lure him into a trap you stupid human" Shaking his head Sei was about to protest when the female yelled"Silence! You humans treat us boars as if we are as docile as those cows that you slaughter! Well I shall tell you that we are not some stupid animal for the humans digestive systems. We are intelligent, cunning, and brave. We have eluded many humans and if we are to be caught we have also slaughtered many of you before being struck down! Now I shall ask you again. Where is the hunting party"
Knowing that she didn't yet believe him Sei said"Look! Sniff around you will know that I am the only human in the forest at this time." The old boar did as he said and calmed down a bit and said"You speak the truth tiny human. But that does not mean that there may be those who wear the skins of my kind to block their scents. And out of love for my young I must kill you" Groaning out of pure annoyance Sei, immediately bolted as the boar let out a loud squeal of fury and chased after him through the brightening woods. She was much slower than Kirara but her size made her strides so large that she seemed to be moving exceptionally fast which made Sei push himself more than he normally did, especially with his ankle as it was still a bit sore from the day before.
Doing his best to avoid the boars advances Sei knew he had one distinct advantage over the demon and that was his ability to take corners much easier than her. When he got a good distance ahead of her he took a hard left and looked back to watch the demon skid and knock down some trees and he laughed as he took another turn, this time right, and made her stumble even more. He snickered to himself and saw a huge tree infront of him and grabbed onto one of the lower branches and climbed up into the leaves. When the boar caught up to him she sniffed around and tried to snap at him from the ground but he was too high up and after a moment she left him alone. Or so he thought because a few minutes after the pig left he began to climb down but that seemed to signal her to charge at the trunk and headbutt the tree, shaking it's roots and almost making Sei fall out of the tree and landing on one of her tusks.
Trying his best to keep himself from falling Sei did a sort of monkey like move and gripped the tree with his arms and legs as hard as he could as the boar continuously bashed her head against the trunk of the tree. He was holding on well enough for the first few minutes but as luck would have it this pig had a head harder than Inuyashas and she just wouldn't give up her chase.Trying his best to think of a way to get out of this situation, Sei saw that there was a branch that was close enough for him to jump to if he could just get his balance and make leap before her next blow. And so he waited a few minutes for her to continue her bashing to figure out her rythm and once he was sure enough of the amount of time he had between blows he stood shakily on the branch and crept forward quickly but just as he was about to leap his foot slipped and he grabbed onto the branch just as she made her final headbutt and ripped the tree up from it's roots and caused it to fall.
Bracing himself for impact Sei saw that there would be none as the tree was heading towards a cliff and he couldn't escape the fall that was about to happen. And so instead of trying to flee Sei stood up and lept from the tree and aimed towards the river below but was unfortunate enough to have his leg snag on a branch and he didn't make it far enough and ended up cracking his head against the side of the cliff and slipped into a deep blackness as soon as he felt the cold rushing water carry him down the river to a place far away from where he needed to be.
Meanwhile at least a good hundred miles away a tall silver haired man was stopped at a river to allow his dragon a break along with the human girl who had been tagging along behind him for the past six years. Also in his company was a small toad demon carrying a two headed staff who was tending a fire while he waited for the girl to return with some fish. Sniffing at the air the man settled down on the ground, closed his eyes, and listened to the serene sound of the flowing river which he had always enjoyed. Infact he loved nature more than anything in his whole existence save for his own life and the girls, but that was a given. Actually he had come to care for her a great deal over the years despite the drastic changes in her body over the past 3 years. He knew that she was becoming a woman and it showed on her as plain as day. Her body was rounder and she was growing like a weed making it almost impossible to keep up with her kimono's and sandals and her smell was causing some somewhat dangerous, if the could even be called dangerous, demons to come for her to which her lord had decided that it best she stayed in the castle or at least in the village during those days.
And despite her misgivings she was actually coerced into staying with some of the villagers for the better part of the year once his castle was rebuilt. The purpose for this was for her to get some sort of learning under her belt and also to learn some sort of anti-demon charms and potions so that she could protect herself when she went out in the forest on their trips to check her lords lands. He also made her study many instruments and learn to read and write, to which she took great pride in knowing and spent countless nights reading to her lord from his books. She also was being taught the properties of herbs and weeds for when she went travelling incase she got hurt or poisoned. But now she was catching fish, a task he knew she enjoyed to no end, well save for planting flowers in his garden to which he gave her as many seeds as he could find for her ever growing collection of flowers and trees.
Yes it was safe to say that he loved her, and he would not deny it for he truly did but many were mistaken for what type of love he felt for the young girl. He knew that his servants expected him to claim her when she was old enough but in his mind that would be like claiming his own daughter as a mate and he knew that she looked to him as more of a father or brother than a possible mate and he didn't try to dissuade her from feeling that for him. Infact he had sat her down and discussed such things with her after her twelth year.
She was confused by why he would talk to her but he looked her in the eye and asked"Rin, what do you think of me" Blushing a bit the girl said"I feel that my lord is a great man and deserves a good wife and family for all the kindness he has shown to me when he didn't have to. That is what I think of you Lord Sesshomaru, a great man who has a greater heart than many think. Why do you ask milord" Looking at the girl Sesshomaru asked"Rin, do you have anyone you wish to make as a mate" Rin's face burned bright red and she muttered something that even his ears couldn't pick up. Looking sternly at her Sesshomaru said"You know better than to speak like that around me now answer me outright." Her face even brighter Rin said loudly"I like Shippou"
Smirking to himself Sesshomaru said"You wish to take that Kitsune as a mate" Nodding Rin said"If my lord would allow it." Seeing the sincerity in her face about giving up on Shippou at his command Sesshomaru said"Rin I have no intention of stopping you in picking a mate so long as they are honorable and that Fox has proven himself honorable enough. But I will tell you that should he not be strong enough to protect you, you must either give up your feelings for him or wait until he is strong enough to protect you." Nodding in agreement Rin asked"When will my Lord take a mate for himself" Feeling a bit uncomfortable at her question Sesshomaru stood and said"Rin, I may never mate. But I shall do my best to see that you live a long life with a mate of your choosing and in that sense I will be satisfied with my life."
As the memory faded Sesshomaru concentrated on the sound of the river once more and felt a sense of peace pass over him as the small sounds of his servants dissappeared into the rushing noise of the river. He felt calm, collected and aligned as he focused his mind on his soul and was feeling at one with himself and as his mind began to slip away a small voice shouting his name drew him back from his daily meditation. Rin and Jakken knew better than to disrupt him during this time, but something in Rin's voice made him knowledgeable of the fact that she wasn't trying to do this out of annoyance. Her voice was excited and panicky and he could hear her light feet rushing towards him.
Standing he looked down at her and asked"What is it Rin that you would dare disturb my meditation" Gasping the young girl pointed to where she had been catching fish and said"A man is lying unconcious in the river with a bad head wound." Staring blankly at her Sesshomaru asked"And this is of what concern to me" Gasping again she said"He wears clothes like Inuyasha's chosen, Kagome." Feeling a need to investigate Sesshomaru followed the girl to where she had found Sei laying face up with his lower half in the water and his upper on the river bed. Walking over Sesshomaru knelt down and checked for a pulse and the extent of his injuries. When he was sure that it was only a head wound his nose caught the faint sent of a boar and he said"He was chased over a cliff by a boar demon. How he survived such a fall is beyond even this Sesshomaru's comprehension."
Standing behind her lord Rin asked"We are only a few hours from the village maybe we can take him to the castle and get the village doctor to help him" At the girls question the toad screeched"Are you a fool, Rin? It's bad enough our lord is receiving disrespect for allowing you entrance to his ancestral home, but another human with strange hair and clothing will cause even more problems" Looking over at the two of them the Inu-no-Taisho said"Rin boil a head remedy and Jakken, shut your mouth before I cut out your tongue." Gaping at his lord the toad said"But my lord why must you take another human into your home" Stomping his foot on the toads head Sesshomaru said"Because I wish to keep Inuyasha's temper in check. We may be equaled in strength but I do not wish to risk my home if he comes and learns that we denied a friend of his aid. I feel it is better that we cure the boy and let the fool come and get him so I don't have to deal with him asking for help."
Muttering an almost incoherent"Yes my lord." from under the demons foot Jakken remained quiet as he watched Rin prepare the necessary herbs for a head injury potion and watched her silently give it to the human. As she did this Sesshomaru was unconciously taking in the boys form and admiring how perfect his form seemed. Once done Sesshomaru ordered Jakken to get Sei on Ah-Un and they headed towards the Castle of the Western Lord. The trip was slow and it was nearly night by the time that they reached the castle gates, and once there Sesshomaru sent Jakken to fetch the village doctor while he whistled for two servants to appear.
At his command two little dog sprites kneeled at his feet and asked"What does Lord Sesshomaru wish of us" Stepping away from his dragon Sesshomaru said"Take this boy to the room next to Rins and make sure he is taken care of properly, and once that is done I wish for one of you to come to my study to deliver a letter letter to that village in my baka brothers territory to tell him what has happened and be quick about it." The two little sprites walked over to the dragon and with Rin's help carried Sei to the spare room next to Rin's. With his servants gone Sesshomaru sent the dragon to it's stable and headed to his study.
Once there he cleared his table of any excess parchment and began writing out a letter to his brother.
Inuyasha,
I have come across a boy wearing garments like that ningen girl you wish to mate with. He is currently at our fathers home and will be treated and resting here until he is ready to make the journey back. I shall send notice of his recovery when it is time for you to come and get him as I am already doing more than is required of me in terms of worrying about whether the boy lives or dies for I could care less. So in his best interest it would be wise to hurry up and get him once he has fully recovered.
Sincerely,
Sesshomaru
Once it was finished Sesshomaru folded the letter and placed his family's seal on it and handed it to the female sprite as she appeared to announce that the doctor was currently mending the boys wounds. Nodding at the sprite and flipping a gold coin to her and said"You may go now." Giving the coin a quick bite the demon bowed to her master and dissappeared in a puff of smoke. When the sprite had left Sesshomaru turned to some of his documents that he'd been glancing over a few days ago before he left to check on a border breach but since that had turned out to be nothing more than a monkey taking some food from a farm he had decided it best to head back and now that he was here he felt it necessary to give the doctor some time to look over the boy.
And it was at this time that he lost focus on his documents and let his thoughts drift to the sandy haired boy that was now being treated by Rin's teacher in the medicinal arts. He felt somewhat connected to the boy, he didn't know why but he felt that the boy had experienced some of the hardships that he himself had gone through in his life as if the boy was sending out silent waves of lonliness and he was looking for a connection with someone or something. Yet, Sesshomaru was also enraptured by the boys looks, since as far as he himself knew, nobody in his lands had straw colored hair or a skin tone of that kind and he knew he must question this boy on his times and how the world has changed for as far as he was concerned, Sesshomaru would be living in that time and needed information to survive and he knew his brother would not give it to him.
Chuckling to himself at finally getting his own fountain of knowledge about the future, Sesshomaru pondered on what information the boy could hold when a small knock came from his door. Shaking himself from his thoughts he said"You may enter." and acknowledged the old woman that was the village healer. Offering her a seat she bowed and took it and said"The boy is fine my lord. His head injury will keep him asleep for at least three days and he will need to stay here at least a little over a fortnight for his wounds to fully recover." Nodding Sesshomaru took out a small pouch holding some coins and gave it to the woman who tried to reject the offer but the look she received from the demon made her take the bag and say"You are most generous Lord Sesshomaru."
Waving the comment aside Sesshomaru asked"Will ther be any special precautions to take with the boy" The old woman thought for a moment and said"His injury will cause severe headaches that will most likely cause vomitting so soup and water are all he should eat until the headaches go away completely and incase they are too severe I have left a powder with Rin to mix in with water to help with the pain and he shouldn't be move around so much for atleast a week and a half after waking up so as not to cause too much strain on his motor skills." Taking the woman's advice the demon said"Your help is most appreciated. Jakken" The little toad appeared at the door and bowed deeply and asked"What do you wish of me my lord."
With a wave of his hand Sesshomaru said"Take this woman home for I know she was probably disturbed by us and not an unkind word to her or I will feed you to Ah-Un." Gulping loudly the toad motioned for the woman to follow him and when they were gone Sesshomaru said"Well, boy you better wake up soon so I can get as much use out of your knowledge of the future as I can."
Hehehehehe...the old use the person then fall in love with them gag. RR people!
