Chapter 18
"Seiya-san!!!!" Groaning at the loud shrill voice of Rins greeting, Sei was about to pull Sesshomaru in, but when he found the demon not there Seiya let out a loud grunt as Rin jumped right onto the humans stomach. Feeling like his eyes were about to shoot out of their sockets Sei coughed, "What do you want Rin?" Pinching her father figures cheeks, Rin said happily, "Sesshomaru-sama said that you were going to take me swimming." Rubbing his eyes at the glare from the window, Seiya said in a yawning voice, "It's too early for swimming, so let me sleep." Pouting heavily Rin said in a whining voice, "It's past midday so you need to get up or you're going to get lazy." Knocking the girls head Sei asked, "Why did you guys let me sleep so late?"
Giggling the girl knocked Seiya in the head out of spite and said, "Because Lord Sesshomaru said that you weren't feeling to well and that we should let you sleep. And he was right because your face is really really red." Staring at the girls smiling face Sei said in a serious tone, "You're sitting on me and it's the middle of summer so chances are I will be red from the heat." Standing up Rin stepped away from the finally, fully awake man and said, "Okay, I'll be waiting outside with Shippou and the others." Grunting his approval Sei sat up while, Rin shut the door behind her to leave the human to his dressing. Grabbing his shorts and a tee, Sei headed out into the main area where Sango was cradling a month old baby boy.
Walking over Sei asked, "How's Hiroshi doing today?" Smiling at her friend, Sango shifted the baby and said, "He's just going to sleep....again. I swear he's lazier than Inuyasha is sometimes." Brushing a stray strand of hair out of the babys face Seiya said in a quiet voice, "At least he's not acting like his father." Snorting out a laugh Sango said, "We'll have to wait and see, I'm just glad that he doesn't have to live with what his father did." Grabbing the babys hand, Sei smiled when he saw nothing but pink flesh and kissed the babys hand and his friends cheek before going outside to find Shippou and Rin chasing a cat that had a ball and string attached to its tail. Shouting at them Sei said, "Oi!! Stop teasing that cat!"
The two teenagers stopped and stared at Sei with a couple of wide toothed smiles and said, "Are we going to the lake or not." Glaring at the two teens Sei said, "Just give me a minute, I haven't even eaten yet." But just as the words escaped his lips, a low voice said, "Finish this." Jumping at the demons voice Sei took the bowl and said, "Thanks alot." Dropping the bowl in Seis hand, Sesshomaru said, "I've received word that there are some demons skulking around in the area." Draining the bowl of soup, Sei said with a full mouth, "Isn't that Inuyashas job?"
Snorting, Sesshomaru said, "My fool of a brother is on the other side visiting with that girls family." Wiping his mouth on the back of his hand Seiya said, "Will you be gone long?" Kissing his mates forhead, Sesshomaru said, "I will be back by this evening, koi. So, take care of her or else you will be punished." Arching his eyebrows, Sei said, "I'm looking forward to it." Taking the boy in his arms, Sesshomaru kissed him deeply before saying, "I meant you won't have me for a good month." Smirking, Seiya said, "Right Sessh, like you can resist me for that long." Staring at his chosen Sesshomaru said, "I stand corrected, but I have other matters to attend to so be careful today and I will hopefully be back before you're asleep."
Holding up his 'fang' Sei smiled and said, "I'll stay up all night if I have to." Rubbing his claw against the boys face, Sesshomaru gave him a quick peck on the cheek before dashing off to the north east. With his sword in hand, Seiya turned to find Shippou and Rin in a small wrestling match and whacking the kitsune on the head, Sei said, "You two get your swimming clothes and hurry it up. I'm certain Kagome would want to hear that you two have enjoyed her gifts." Separating themselves from each other, the teens headed into the house and in less than two minutes they were dressed in the bathing suits Kagome had bought them and stopped in front of the man with wide smiles. Rolling his eyes Sei said, "Okay, troops move out!" At the sound of Seis military style command the two teenagers straigtened up and marched behind their caretaker as they headed off in the direction of the village swimming hole.
Contrary to what Sei thought the place would be like the lake was actually empty despite the summer heat and before he could say anything Rin and Shippou were already diving into the water. Watching the two play Sei shouted, "Two tails, don't hurt her or it's your ass that Sesshomarus going to plant in the ground!" Waving at his friend Shippou said, "You got it, Seiya!" Coming up for a breath of fresh air Rin smiled happily and said, "Are you going to join us?" Taking his shirt off Sei dove into the crystal clear water and swam the distance between him and his friends before dragging Shippou down by his tails.
Struggling to get up Shippou popped Sei on the head and when the two came up for air, the kitsune was sitting on top of the humans head shouting, "What in the hell did you do that for?!" Wiping the water from his eyes Seiya laughed and said, "Oh get over it! It's not like you've never been close to drowning before." With a mouthful of Seis head Shippou said, "Still that doesn't mean you pull your friend under the water." As the demon continued to knaw on his head and pound on his back, Sei looked to Rin and asked, "Can you explain this behaviour to me?" Giggling, Rin said to the disgruntled Sei, "He does it to Inuyasha all the time."
Turning his eyes upward Sei looked at the fox demon on his head and said, "You're about to crack my neck so I'd appreciate you getting off of me before I turn one of your tails into a scarf." Snickering evilly Shippou pushed his legs into Seis head before flinging himself into the air and soaring a good 10 feet before arching his body and landing gracefully into the crystal clear lake. Shaking his head at the foxes antics, Sei plunged his head into the water and ran his hands through it before snapping back up and accidentally hitting Rin in the face with a few stray strands.
Squealing at the wet hairs stinging feeling against her face Rin said, "Be careful, Sei-san. When was the last time you got a hair cut?" Brushing his hair back Sei snickered and said, "Since the first time I fell through the well." Diving under and then rising back up the girl said, "Do you think I can go through one of these days?" Floating on the surface, Sei saw a sort of eager look on the girls face at the prospect of travelling to the other side with her "parents."
Rubbing the water from his eyes, Seiya said, "Hopefully, one day sweetie. Maybe fortune will smile on you as it has with Sesshomaru and our friends." Beaming heavily, Rin threw herself into Seis arms and said, "YAY!! I get to go through the well." Chuckling Sei hugged her back and said, "I said hopefully, cutie." Rubbing her face in Seis shoulder Rin said, "That's why I said I am. Because if you want something bad enough and hope, pray and work for it, it will come true." Patting the girls back Seiya was about to say something when a pebble hit his head and Shippou shouting, "HANDS OFF MY WOMAN!!!" Pushing away from his 'daughter' Sei swam in the direction of his friends voice and climbed out of the water to find Shippou fanning a small fire and some fish.
Whistling at Rin, Sei shouted, "Rin, come get some lunch!" Waving to see she got the message, Sei sat down and grabbed a fish stick and began chomping on the squiggling animal as Shippou said, "So when are you two going to get your mating over and done with?" Choking on his fish, Sei beat on his chest for a moment and asked, "What...cough...the hell are you asking that for?" Nibbling on his fish, Shippou smirked and said, "I was just wondering why you guys haven't done so yet. I mean you've gone through pretty much every step so just get it over with." Sei was going to respond but Rin came out of nowhere and concked the demon on the head before grabbing her fish and said, "That's none of our business, Shippou." Snorting, Shippou threw the bone away before grabbing another one and said, "Well, I'm not trying to be rude but they should just get it over with."
Doing as Shippou had just done, Sei knawed on the new fish before saying, "Well you better wait until Rins older before you even think about doing anything even remotely close to begin courting or else you'll be Sesshomarus number one target." Swallowing his last bit of fish rather loudly, Shippou said in a soft voice, "Ummmm, I think you're being just a bit hasty there Sei." Chuckling as he finished his own meal Sei looked to Rin and said, "You better not do anything either, or else you'll be locked in your quarters for awhile." Smiling and grabbing her final fish, Rin bit into it and said, "Iff odsy Seh-sae." Rolling his eyes Sei looked at the girl and said, "Swallow your fish before you talk." Giggling embarassingly Rin swallowed her food and said, "It's okay Sei-san. Shippou knows what Sesshomaru-sama may do so he's being really patient about it." Content with his full stomach and satisfied with knowing that Shippou wasn't trying anything, Sei laid back on the ground and started to doze off with his sword lying next to him.
In the mean time, Sesshomarus search for rouge demons in his brothers territory were producing embarassingly poor results. Apparently his source was wrong since the demons nose was having a difficult time sniffing out any possible demons. Leaping into a tree, Sesshomaru stood out on a branch and took a deep breath as he surveyed the part of his fathers lands that was left in his brothers protection. It had been a while since he had last gone on a patrol, and he was itching for a good battle due to the fact that his brother and he scared most demons from even entering their lands. Gazing at the clouds, Sesshomaru sat on the branch and decided to at least meditate in hopes that his conciousness would pick up some demonic aura.
Closing his eyes Sesshomaru cleared his mind of any and all thoughts and started expanding his mental and physical senses beyond their normal capacities. As he attempted to locate any threatening aura, a sickening feeling began to swell in the pit of his stomach. Twitching his nose, Sesshomaru opened his eyes and looked north and saw an oddly shaped shadow approaching. Jumping from his spot on the tree, Sesshomaru cleared half the distance between him and the approaching presence and once he caught the strong whiff of the demon, he unsheated Tokijin and sent an energy wave at the demon and wasn't surprised to find a crimson colored barrier surround his target and a voice say, "So this is where you have been spending these past few months, Sesshomaru."
Sneering at the bat demon, Sesshomaru said, "What is your purpose for being in my lands, Polong?" Landing on a tree across from the dog demon, Polong chuckled and said, "An odd rumor has reached me in my lands about you courting that young boy we discussed at the council, so I just thought I'd see if it was true." Remaining stationary Sesshomaru smirked and said, "Your sources stand corrected, but there is a problem with you coming here as the boy is not anywhere in these lands at this time." Snorting the bat opened his mouth and shot an energy beam at Sesshomaru, who lazily lifted Tokijin in an attempt to block it but when blade met beam Sesshomaru was forced to take to the air in order send it off in a safe direction. Landing five trees behind him Sesshomaru pointed his sword at the demon and said, "Interesting, you've become stronger since we were children."
Snorting the demon opened his wing and revealed a small snickering bat holding an orb and said, "Well this little one can send me energy from our barrier orb increase my attacks properties. Granted my attacks are potent enough to handle you on their own, but I thought it best to bring some extra incentive." Scoffing at the demons cowardice Sesshomaru said, "Send the child away and fight me on equal footing Polong. Unless your tribe has lost all its honor since my hanyou brother killed one of your strongest clansmen." Baring his fangs Polong looked to the child and pointed for it to fly off in the direction of the village. Taking note of this Sesshomaru attempted to follow the young demon but was stopped by a swipe from one of his rivals claws.
Jumping back from the strike, Sesshomaru landed on the top of a tree and bending back catapulted himself and flew at the demon sword at his side. When he got to the bat Sesshomaru slashed at the demon and smirked as the demon flew away and landed on another tree top. Floating over to another top Sesshomaru said, "Honestly are you to afraid to go on the offensive with me?" Chuckling the bat seemed to melt into his wings and launched himself at the dog. Unsheathing his fathers fang, Sesshomaru placed both swords infront of him and met Polongs attack head on. Grunting in an effort to knock the demon away Sesshomarus ears picked up a loud fluttering of wings. Summoning a quick burst of strength Sesshomaru pushed his adversary out of his way and when he heard the demon crash into a tree he turned to see a large cloud of black hovering over the area where he knew Seiya, Shippou and Rin were spending the day. Cursing himself for allowing himself to be distracted by his lust for battle, Sesshomaru dropped to the ground and ran towards the village.
At the lake, Shippou and Rin were enjoying a swim while Sei spent his time catching up on his reading. Giving the two the occasional glance to see if they were all right, Sei smirked as he saw Rin dunk Shippou under the water and swim off laughing loudly. Turning the page of his book Seis ears picked up an odd sound. At first he thought it was a light wind making its way through the trees but when he felt no breeze flow through his hair, or chill his skin Sei grew worried. Grabbing his sword he looked around and on seeing nothing yelled, "Shippou! Rin! Get the hell out of the water now!" The two would have complained but when Shippou heard the sound of the air around them, he motioned for Rin to hide in the forest while he joined Sei on the other end of the lake.
Sniffing the air Shippou said, "I know this scent. I've smelled something like this when we travelled fighting Naraku." Unsheathing the blade Sei looked around as he asked, "Where the hell are they coming from?" Sniffing again Shippous eyes grew wide as he said, "They're coming from above us." Looking up Sei gulped as he saw about one hundred giant bat like humans descending upon them laughing maniacally. Getting in a stance Sei asked, "Your fox fire able to handle these guys?" Chuckling, Shippou stood to his full height with fire in both hands and said, "We'll find out soon enough." And just as he said that a bat shot a beam at them from it's mouth. Focusing his thoughts Sei created a sheild that dissipated the beams power and once dropped Shippou fried the demon with a fist full of fire.
While Shippous target was going down in a blaze of glory, Sei was busy severing the head of one bat, while stabbing the throat of one who was trying to attack him from behind his immediate target. Turning around, Sei shoved his blade through anothers stomach and sent his guts to the ground while Shippou was setting others on fire. Smirking a bit at the weakness of some of the demons, Seis mind was brought back to reality when he felt a series of sharp pains going across his left arm and all the way down his back. Screaming at the searing pain of the attack, Sei looked at his arm and saw deep gashes of red going from his shoulder down to his elbow. Cleaving the demon in two Sei yelled, "Why the hell are you all here?" Snickering a demon swiped his claw down Seis chest and said, "We're here on our masters orders to bring you to his castle."
Slashing at the demon, Sei cursed himself as the demon flew back into the crowd and looked at Shippou who was in the middle of transforming to his fox form while setting some bats on fire. Slashing his way through some of the demons, Sei came to a stop at Shippous side and asked, "What the fuck do they want with me, Shippou?" Snapping one demon in half with one of his paws Shippou said, "Probably some sort of revenge against Sesshomaru for having two humans around him." Running one demon through the stomach and tossing it aside Sei said, "I thought all the demons were fine with me being around him?" Sending two giant balls of fire from his tail, Shippou chuckled as five bats went into flames as he said, "Must be somebody who's jealous of your mate?"
Sei was about to come up with some smart ass reply when a loud scream caught his ears. Looking to the forest he saw Rin being chased by a bat. Getting to his feet Sei said, "Take care of these guys while I save Rin!" Nodding Shippou lept into the frey and began swiping and biting at any demon who came at him as Sei slashed his way through the demons keeping him from Rin. When he escaped from the group Sei found two bats chasing Rin and laughing as they chased the girl. Swinging the blade at them Sei was surprised to see a crescent of energy escape from the end of his blade and slice through the bats like a hot knife through butter. Heading over to the girl, Sei asked her, "Are you okay Rin?" Shaking and nodding the girls eyes grew wide as she said, "Sei-san you're bleeding!" Looking at his chest and arm Sei chuckled as the wounds bled a bit and said, "I'm fine, just stay here and me and Shippou will take care of these GUYS!"
Seis words were cut off as he felt a clawed foot dig into his right shoulder, while a claw raked a new set of wounds on his back. Falling to the ground Sei let his sword drop from his hand as his face ended up in the dirt. Looking up at the girl Sei said, "Take it and run!" Grabbing the sword Rin lifted it and said, "Let Seiya go!" The bat demon chuckled as he removed his claw from the boys shoulder in a spurt of blood and after licking the blood from his claw he said, "Girl you may want to do as he said before I kill him here." Struggling to get up Sei looked at Rin and said, "Fine, Sesshomar......AHHHH!!!" Seis words were cut off as he felt his hip snap out of place. Holding back tears and vomit Sei said, "GO RIN!!!" Crying the girl stood her ground and said, "LET HIM GO!!" Trying to charge the demon, Rin stumbled from the swords weight and shreiked as the demons claw collided with her face, knocking her to the ground. Bending down and picking Seiya in his arms the bat took to the air and sent out a loud screech to his companions.
The remaining bats looked to the air and all screeched as they left the battle and followed their companion. Panting heavily from his wounds and fatigue Shippou made his way through the blood stained earth, and over to where he'd last seen Seiya and Rin. But his heart sank as he saw Rin lying unconcious gripping Seis blood stained sword and as he licked her face in an attempt to wake her, he could only let out loud whine of hurt before pulling her in with one of his huge paws and fell asleep with his large golden body wrapped around her.
Seething with anger, Sesshomaru leapt out of the forest and came to a screeching halt as his eyes absorbed the massacre that lay before him. The once green and gorgeous grass surrounding the small lake was stained crimson with the blood of what he'd only hoped was that of his enemies. Looking around he found bits of the bats everywhere. A wing here, the occasional arm or torso, some fresh entrails, Sesshomaru had to cover his mouth to keep from getting sick at the stench created by the disgusting creatures. Walking towards the edge of the lake, Sesshomaru sniffed the ground and caught a strong scent of Seiyas blood on the grass near where he was crouched. With so much blood in the air it was hard for the Taisho to discern his chosens blood from the others, but as he sniffed he picked up faint traces of Shippous and just as he picked up another familiar scent a loud voice said, "Where the hell are you, you bastards?!"
Sneering at the interruption, Sesshomaru turned his gaze to find Inuyasha appear from the forest with Kagome on his back. The youkai could only scoff as the human and his brother took in the sight and when noticing that Sesshomaru was standing there Kagome asked, "Where are they?" The two brothers sniffed again and looked to the north eastern corner of the lake where in the bushes they saw a giant mound of golden fur moving slowly up and down. Picking up Kagome Inuyasha was only mere seconds behind Sesshomaru who upon arrival shook bent down and gently shook Rin awake. The girl moaned and looked up with tear filled eyes and said, "They took Seiya." Breathing hoarsely Sesshomaru took the girl in his arms and when turning her face to look at him his anger grew even more as he saw three deep gashes on her face. Letting out a loud growl Sesshomaru asked, "Where did they go Rin?"
Crying heavily the girl clutched the demons chest and said, "I don't know Sesshomaru-sama. They came out of nowhere and attacked. Shippou and Sei-san fought bravely but Sei-san had wounds all over his body and he killed two demons saving me while Shippou fought the group." Looking at the fox, Sesshomaru saw that the demon form of the boy bore an ashamed face as he said, "I should have gone with him to protect her, but if I did the entire group would have killed us so I stayed and fought while Seiya went to her. But as soon as he'd vanquished two of the demons a third came and dug his claws into him. After that I saw the demon carrying Seiya to the east and I would have gave chase but I was too weak from my injuries to follow." Heading over to the fox Kagmoe saw mounds of claw marks on him and wept into the kitsunes fur and said, "Miroku came through and told us about the attack. When we were through the well Inuyashas nose picked up the blood and brought us directly here while Miroku and Kirara went after what appeared to be a wounded bat demon."
Looking at the girl and at the fox, Sesshomaru held Rin and said, "I thank you Shippou for helping my daughter and my chosen. But we need more information than what you have given me for us to follow." Snorting Inuyasha said, "Let me guess you need me to break the barrier?" Glaring at his brother Sesshomaru said, "Do me this and you will never need to do me another service." Smirking Inuyasha said, "I would have gone anyways so there's no need to act like you need me because. Let's face it I'm the only one of us who can break the barrier. And besides, Seiyas my friend so I don't need a reason to go and save him." Kagome smiled at her mate and was about to say something when Mirokus voice said, "Well I found what I was looking for." Looking to their right the group was surprised to find Miroku sitting on Kirara with a huge grin while the cat carried a squirming bat in her mouth.
Getting to his feet Sesshomar stopped infront of the cat and asked the demon, "Where's your masters home?" Coughing up some blood the bat laughed and said, "Like I'd let you know that you worthless pile of droppings." Grabbing the demons face Sesshomaru began to squeeze and said, "Tell me what I need to know and your death won't be as painful as this." Letting out a loud screech the bat said, "Burn in hell dog!" Letting his anger get the best of him, Sesshomaru felt his muscles lose control and the demons head rupture in a spray of blood. When he came to his senses Sesshomaru cleaned his hand off in the lake as Inuyasha yelled, "We needed him to find out where those bats live you bastard!!! What the hell were you thinking?!" Turning at his brother with his anger still flaring, Sesshomaru said, "Woman, take the fox and Rin to the village and tend to their wounds. And Inuyasha we are heading to the castle of Orochi, the head of the snake clan and leader of the council. As leader he is obligated to know where all the demon clan leaders reside and will give us the information we seek."
Without saying so much as a protest Inuyasha gave Kagome a quick kiss and said, "We'll be back soon so don't worry." Hugging the demon Kagome said, "Bring him back alive." Smirking in his normal arrogant way Inuyasha was about to say some stuck up remark when Sesshomaru said, "Hurry it up!" Growling Inuyasha left his companions as his brother led their way through the woods to the home of their fathers friend and hopefully the way to Polongs castle and Seiya.

Holding up his 'fang' Sei smiled and said, "I'll stay up all night if I have to." Rubbing his claw against the boys face, Sesshomaru gave him a quick peck on the cheek before dashing off to the north east. With his sword in hand, Seiya turned to find Shippou and Rin in a small wrestling match and whacking the kitsune on the head, Sei said, "You two get your swimming clothes and hurry it up. I'm certain Kagome would want to hear that you two have enjoyed her gifts." Separating themselves from each other, the teens headed into the house and in less than two minutes they were dressed in the bathing suits Kagome had bought them and stopped in front of the man with wide smiles. Rolling his eyes Sei said, "Okay, troops move out!" At the sound of Seis military style command the two teenagers straigtened up and marched behind their caretaker as they headed off in the direction of the village swimming hole.
Contrary to what Sei thought the place would be like the lake was actually empty despite the summer heat and before he could say anything Rin and Shippou were already diving into the water. Watching the two play Sei shouted, "Two tails, don't hurt her or it's your ass that Sesshomarus going to plant in the ground!" Waving at his friend Shippou said, "You got it, Seiya!" Coming up for a breath of fresh air Rin smiled happily and said, "Are you going to join us?" Taking his shirt off Sei dove into the crystal clear water and swam the distance between him and his friends before dragging Shippou down by his tails.
Struggling to get up Shippou popped Sei on the head and when the two came up for air, the kitsune was sitting on top of the humans head shouting, "What in the hell did you do that for?!" Wiping the water from his eyes Seiya laughed and said, "Oh get over it! It's not like you've never been close to drowning before." With a mouthful of Seis head Shippou said, "Still that doesn't mean you pull your friend under the water." As the demon continued to knaw on his head and pound on his back, Sei looked to Rin and asked, "Can you explain this behaviour to me?" Giggling, Rin said to the disgruntled Sei, "He does it to Inuyasha all the time."
Turning his eyes upward Sei looked at the fox demon on his head and said, "You're about to crack my neck so I'd appreciate you getting off of me before I turn one of your tails into a scarf." Snickering evilly Shippou pushed his legs into Seis head before flinging himself into the air and soaring a good 10 feet before arching his body and landing gracefully into the crystal clear lake. Shaking his head at the foxes antics, Sei plunged his head into the water and ran his hands through it before snapping back up and accidentally hitting Rin in the face with a few stray strands.
Squealing at the wet hairs stinging feeling against her face Rin said, "Be careful, Sei-san. When was the last time you got a hair cut?" Brushing his hair back Sei snickered and said, "Since the first time I fell through the well." Diving under and then rising back up the girl said, "Do you think I can go through one of these days?" Floating on the surface, Sei saw a sort of eager look on the girls face at the prospect of travelling to the other side with her "parents."
Rubbing the water from his eyes, Seiya said, "Hopefully, one day sweetie. Maybe fortune will smile on you as it has with Sesshomaru and our friends." Beaming heavily, Rin threw herself into Seis arms and said, "YAY!! I get to go through the well." Chuckling Sei hugged her back and said, "I said hopefully, cutie." Rubbing her face in Seis shoulder Rin said, "That's why I said I am. Because if you want something bad enough and hope, pray and work for it, it will come true." Patting the girls back Seiya was about to say something when a pebble hit his head and Shippou shouting, "HANDS OFF MY WOMAN!!!" Pushing away from his 'daughter' Sei swam in the direction of his friends voice and climbed out of the water to find Shippou fanning a small fire and some fish.
Whistling at Rin, Sei shouted, "Rin, come get some lunch!" Waving to see she got the message, Sei sat down and grabbed a fish stick and began chomping on the squiggling animal as Shippou said, "So when are you two going to get your mating over and done with?" Choking on his fish, Sei beat on his chest for a moment and asked, "What...cough...the hell are you asking that for?" Nibbling on his fish, Shippou smirked and said, "I was just wondering why you guys haven't done so yet. I mean you've gone through pretty much every step so just get it over with." Sei was going to respond but Rin came out of nowhere and concked the demon on the head before grabbing her fish and said, "That's none of our business, Shippou." Snorting, Shippou threw the bone away before grabbing another one and said, "Well, I'm not trying to be rude but they should just get it over with."
Doing as Shippou had just done, Sei knawed on the new fish before saying, "Well you better wait until Rins older before you even think about doing anything even remotely close to begin courting or else you'll be Sesshomarus number one target." Swallowing his last bit of fish rather loudly, Shippou said in a soft voice, "Ummmm, I think you're being just a bit hasty there Sei." Chuckling as he finished his own meal Sei looked to Rin and said, "You better not do anything either, or else you'll be locked in your quarters for awhile." Smiling and grabbing her final fish, Rin bit into it and said, "Iff odsy Seh-sae." Rolling his eyes Sei looked at the girl and said, "Swallow your fish before you talk." Giggling embarassingly Rin swallowed her food and said, "It's okay Sei-san. Shippou knows what Sesshomaru-sama may do so he's being really patient about it." Content with his full stomach and satisfied with knowing that Shippou wasn't trying anything, Sei laid back on the ground and started to doze off with his sword lying next to him.
In the mean time, Sesshomarus search for rouge demons in his brothers territory were producing embarassingly poor results. Apparently his source was wrong since the demons nose was having a difficult time sniffing out any possible demons. Leaping into a tree, Sesshomaru stood out on a branch and took a deep breath as he surveyed the part of his fathers lands that was left in his brothers protection. It had been a while since he had last gone on a patrol, and he was itching for a good battle due to the fact that his brother and he scared most demons from even entering their lands. Gazing at the clouds, Sesshomaru sat on the branch and decided to at least meditate in hopes that his conciousness would pick up some demonic aura.
Closing his eyes Sesshomaru cleared his mind of any and all thoughts and started expanding his mental and physical senses beyond their normal capacities. As he attempted to locate any threatening aura, a sickening feeling began to swell in the pit of his stomach. Twitching his nose, Sesshomaru opened his eyes and looked north and saw an oddly shaped shadow approaching. Jumping from his spot on the tree, Sesshomaru cleared half the distance between him and the approaching presence and once he caught the strong whiff of the demon, he unsheated Tokijin and sent an energy wave at the demon and wasn't surprised to find a crimson colored barrier surround his target and a voice say, "So this is where you have been spending these past few months, Sesshomaru."
Sneering at the bat demon, Sesshomaru said, "What is your purpose for being in my lands, Polong?" Landing on a tree across from the dog demon, Polong chuckled and said, "An odd rumor has reached me in my lands about you courting that young boy we discussed at the council, so I just thought I'd see if it was true." Remaining stationary Sesshomaru smirked and said, "Your sources stand corrected, but there is a problem with you coming here as the boy is not anywhere in these lands at this time." Snorting the bat opened his mouth and shot an energy beam at Sesshomaru, who lazily lifted Tokijin in an attempt to block it but when blade met beam Sesshomaru was forced to take to the air in order send it off in a safe direction. Landing five trees behind him Sesshomaru pointed his sword at the demon and said, "Interesting, you've become stronger since we were children."
Snorting the demon opened his wing and revealed a small snickering bat holding an orb and said, "Well this little one can send me energy from our barrier orb increase my attacks properties. Granted my attacks are potent enough to handle you on their own, but I thought it best to bring some extra incentive." Scoffing at the demons cowardice Sesshomaru said, "Send the child away and fight me on equal footing Polong. Unless your tribe has lost all its honor since my hanyou brother killed one of your strongest clansmen." Baring his fangs Polong looked to the child and pointed for it to fly off in the direction of the village. Taking note of this Sesshomaru attempted to follow the young demon but was stopped by a swipe from one of his rivals claws.
Jumping back from the strike, Sesshomaru landed on the top of a tree and bending back catapulted himself and flew at the demon sword at his side. When he got to the bat Sesshomaru slashed at the demon and smirked as the demon flew away and landed on another tree top. Floating over to another top Sesshomaru said, "Honestly are you to afraid to go on the offensive with me?" Chuckling the bat seemed to melt into his wings and launched himself at the dog. Unsheathing his fathers fang, Sesshomaru placed both swords infront of him and met Polongs attack head on. Grunting in an effort to knock the demon away Sesshomarus ears picked up a loud fluttering of wings. Summoning a quick burst of strength Sesshomaru pushed his adversary out of his way and when he heard the demon crash into a tree he turned to see a large cloud of black hovering over the area where he knew Seiya, Shippou and Rin were spending the day. Cursing himself for allowing himself to be distracted by his lust for battle, Sesshomaru dropped to the ground and ran towards the village.
At the lake, Shippou and Rin were enjoying a swim while Sei spent his time catching up on his reading. Giving the two the occasional glance to see if they were all right, Sei smirked as he saw Rin dunk Shippou under the water and swim off laughing loudly. Turning the page of his book Seis ears picked up an odd sound. At first he thought it was a light wind making its way through the trees but when he felt no breeze flow through his hair, or chill his skin Sei grew worried. Grabbing his sword he looked around and on seeing nothing yelled, "Shippou! Rin! Get the hell out of the water now!" The two would have complained but when Shippou heard the sound of the air around them, he motioned for Rin to hide in the forest while he joined Sei on the other end of the lake.
Sniffing the air Shippou said, "I know this scent. I've smelled something like this when we travelled fighting Naraku." Unsheathing the blade Sei looked around as he asked, "Where the hell are they coming from?" Sniffing again Shippous eyes grew wide as he said, "They're coming from above us." Looking up Sei gulped as he saw about one hundred giant bat like humans descending upon them laughing maniacally. Getting in a stance Sei asked, "Your fox fire able to handle these guys?" Chuckling, Shippou stood to his full height with fire in both hands and said, "We'll find out soon enough." And just as he said that a bat shot a beam at them from it's mouth. Focusing his thoughts Sei created a sheild that dissipated the beams power and once dropped Shippou fried the demon with a fist full of fire.
While Shippous target was going down in a blaze of glory, Sei was busy severing the head of one bat, while stabbing the throat of one who was trying to attack him from behind his immediate target. Turning around, Sei shoved his blade through anothers stomach and sent his guts to the ground while Shippou was setting others on fire. Smirking a bit at the weakness of some of the demons, Seis mind was brought back to reality when he felt a series of sharp pains going across his left arm and all the way down his back. Screaming at the searing pain of the attack, Sei looked at his arm and saw deep gashes of red going from his shoulder down to his elbow. Cleaving the demon in two Sei yelled, "Why the hell are you all here?" Snickering a demon swiped his claw down Seis chest and said, "We're here on our masters orders to bring you to his castle."
Slashing at the demon, Sei cursed himself as the demon flew back into the crowd and looked at Shippou who was in the middle of transforming to his fox form while setting some bats on fire. Slashing his way through some of the demons, Sei came to a stop at Shippous side and asked, "What the fuck do they want with me, Shippou?" Snapping one demon in half with one of his paws Shippou said, "Probably some sort of revenge against Sesshomaru for having two humans around him." Running one demon through the stomach and tossing it aside Sei said, "I thought all the demons were fine with me being around him?" Sending two giant balls of fire from his tail, Shippou chuckled as five bats went into flames as he said, "Must be somebody who's jealous of your mate?"
Sei was about to come up with some smart ass reply when a loud scream caught his ears. Looking to the forest he saw Rin being chased by a bat. Getting to his feet Sei said, "Take care of these guys while I save Rin!" Nodding Shippou lept into the frey and began swiping and biting at any demon who came at him as Sei slashed his way through the demons keeping him from Rin. When he escaped from the group Sei found two bats chasing Rin and laughing as they chased the girl. Swinging the blade at them Sei was surprised to see a crescent of energy escape from the end of his blade and slice through the bats like a hot knife through butter. Heading over to the girl, Sei asked her, "Are you okay Rin?" Shaking and nodding the girls eyes grew wide as she said, "Sei-san you're bleeding!" Looking at his chest and arm Sei chuckled as the wounds bled a bit and said, "I'm fine, just stay here and me and Shippou will take care of these GUYS!"
Seis words were cut off as he felt a clawed foot dig into his right shoulder, while a claw raked a new set of wounds on his back. Falling to the ground Sei let his sword drop from his hand as his face ended up in the dirt. Looking up at the girl Sei said, "Take it and run!" Grabbing the sword Rin lifted it and said, "Let Seiya go!" The bat demon chuckled as he removed his claw from the boys shoulder in a spurt of blood and after licking the blood from his claw he said, "Girl you may want to do as he said before I kill him here." Struggling to get up Sei looked at Rin and said, "Fine, Sesshomar......AHHHH!!!" Seis words were cut off as he felt his hip snap out of place. Holding back tears and vomit Sei said, "GO RIN!!!" Crying the girl stood her ground and said, "LET HIM GO!!" Trying to charge the demon, Rin stumbled from the swords weight and shreiked as the demons claw collided with her face, knocking her to the ground. Bending down and picking Seiya in his arms the bat took to the air and sent out a loud screech to his companions.
The remaining bats looked to the air and all screeched as they left the battle and followed their companion. Panting heavily from his wounds and fatigue Shippou made his way through the blood stained earth, and over to where he'd last seen Seiya and Rin. But his heart sank as he saw Rin lying unconcious gripping Seis blood stained sword and as he licked her face in an attempt to wake her, he could only let out loud whine of hurt before pulling her in with one of his huge paws and fell asleep with his large golden body wrapped around her.
Seething with anger, Sesshomaru leapt out of the forest and came to a screeching halt as his eyes absorbed the massacre that lay before him. The once green and gorgeous grass surrounding the small lake was stained crimson with the blood of what he'd only hoped was that of his enemies. Looking around he found bits of the bats everywhere. A wing here, the occasional arm or torso, some fresh entrails, Sesshomaru had to cover his mouth to keep from getting sick at the stench created by the disgusting creatures. Walking towards the edge of the lake, Sesshomaru sniffed the ground and caught a strong scent of Seiyas blood on the grass near where he was crouched. With so much blood in the air it was hard for the Taisho to discern his chosens blood from the others, but as he sniffed he picked up faint traces of Shippous and just as he picked up another familiar scent a loud voice said, "Where the hell are you, you bastards?!"
Sneering at the interruption, Sesshomaru turned his gaze to find Inuyasha appear from the forest with Kagome on his back. The youkai could only scoff as the human and his brother took in the sight and when noticing that Sesshomaru was standing there Kagome asked, "Where are they?" The two brothers sniffed again and looked to the north eastern corner of the lake where in the bushes they saw a giant mound of golden fur moving slowly up and down. Picking up Kagome Inuyasha was only mere seconds behind Sesshomaru who upon arrival shook bent down and gently shook Rin awake. The girl moaned and looked up with tear filled eyes and said, "They took Seiya." Breathing hoarsely Sesshomaru took the girl in his arms and when turning her face to look at him his anger grew even more as he saw three deep gashes on her face. Letting out a loud growl Sesshomaru asked, "Where did they go Rin?"
Crying heavily the girl clutched the demons chest and said, "I don't know Sesshomaru-sama. They came out of nowhere and attacked. Shippou and Sei-san fought bravely but Sei-san had wounds all over his body and he killed two demons saving me while Shippou fought the group." Looking at the fox, Sesshomaru saw that the demon form of the boy bore an ashamed face as he said, "I should have gone with him to protect her, but if I did the entire group would have killed us so I stayed and fought while Seiya went to her. But as soon as he'd vanquished two of the demons a third came and dug his claws into him. After that I saw the demon carrying Seiya to the east and I would have gave chase but I was too weak from my injuries to follow." Heading over to the fox Kagmoe saw mounds of claw marks on him and wept into the kitsunes fur and said, "Miroku came through and told us about the attack. When we were through the well Inuyashas nose picked up the blood and brought us directly here while Miroku and Kirara went after what appeared to be a wounded bat demon."
Looking at the girl and at the fox, Sesshomaru held Rin and said, "I thank you Shippou for helping my daughter and my chosen. But we need more information than what you have given me for us to follow." Snorting Inuyasha said, "Let me guess you need me to break the barrier?" Glaring at his brother Sesshomaru said, "Do me this and you will never need to do me another service." Smirking Inuyasha said, "I would have gone anyways so there's no need to act like you need me because. Let's face it I'm the only one of us who can break the barrier. And besides, Seiyas my friend so I don't need a reason to go and save him." Kagome smiled at her mate and was about to say something when Mirokus voice said, "Well I found what I was looking for." Looking to their right the group was surprised to find Miroku sitting on Kirara with a huge grin while the cat carried a squirming bat in her mouth.
Getting to his feet Sesshomar stopped infront of the cat and asked the demon, "Where's your masters home?" Coughing up some blood the bat laughed and said, "Like I'd let you know that you worthless pile of droppings." Grabbing the demons face Sesshomaru began to squeeze and said, "Tell me what I need to know and your death won't be as painful as this." Letting out a loud screech the bat said, "Burn in hell dog!" Letting his anger get the best of him, Sesshomaru felt his muscles lose control and the demons head rupture in a spray of blood. When he came to his senses Sesshomaru cleaned his hand off in the lake as Inuyasha yelled, "We needed him to find out where those bats live you bastard!!! What the hell were you thinking?!" Turning at his brother with his anger still flaring, Sesshomaru said, "Woman, take the fox and Rin to the village and tend to their wounds. And Inuyasha we are heading to the castle of Orochi, the head of the snake clan and leader of the council. As leader he is obligated to know where all the demon clan leaders reside and will give us the information we seek."
Without saying so much as a protest Inuyasha gave Kagome a quick kiss and said, "We'll be back soon so don't worry." Hugging the demon Kagome said, "Bring him back alive." Smirking in his normal arrogant way Inuyasha was about to say some stuck up remark when Sesshomaru said, "Hurry it up!" Growling Inuyasha left his companions as his brother led their way through the woods to the home of their fathers friend and hopefully the way to Polongs castle and Seiya.
