Okay here’s forty!
Chapter 40
“Oh man, why’d this have to happen now?” Looking down, Seiya could see that his leg had caught on a vine inside the well. And since he was wearing his brace, tugging on it only seemed to loosen the bolts in it and make it sag on his leg. He held on with one hand and sliced the plant with a small switch blade and made his way up the ladder and fell to the ground panting heavily.
It’d been a long while since he’d had to climb that ladder, and carrying a heavy bag wasn’t helping his ability to climb. Catching his breath, he reached into his bag and pulled out a screwdriver and tightened his brace up before feeling himself be lifted of the ground by the neck of his shirt. Looking a bit worried he jumped at the sight of seeing a grumpy faced Inuyasha staring at him. Smiling broadly he said, “Good to see ya pal. How’ve you guys been the past couple of months?”
Bad question to ask since he knew that after spending the past couple of weeks with no contact between him, his mate, or family, Seiya was on a couple of people’s shit lists. He’d spent two weeks cleaning up his house and finishing up his exams before rushing off to visit Kagome at the hospital, only to find she was given a couple of weeks off to her taking so many shifts. He was a bit saddened by the fact that he couldn’t see his friend, but was a bit frightened at the though of facing her since he hadn’t told her about his getting married and having it at his family’s home and not in Japan.
When he’d arrived at the airport he found Tommy and his girlfriend waiting with the keys to his car. He’d left them his spare set and had them come and get his car so he wouldn’t be stuck paying a fortune in parking fees when he got back. But he was glad to be home and knew that Sesshomaru and Rin wanted to go back through the well. He’d showed his friends what had happened and they were glad, if a bit concerned, but they gave him their blessings and left.
Now he was stuck with an upset hanyou staring at him pissed off for some odd reason and it was all he could do to break loose as Inuyasha asked, “Where the hell have you been? That bastard brother of mine was back three weeks ago and for some reason nobody has heard anything from you. Kagome’s in a panic and the others are worried so you’d better have a damn good excuse for making Kagome worry like this.”
Brushing off his pants, Seiya said, “I had my exams to finish and needed to clean my house. Besides that, Sesshomaru had to bring Rin back so she could get on with her lessons and deal with all the diplomatic problems he had and I don’t think Koura appreciated us staying away for an extra month on top of that.” He knew he’d struck a nerve as out of nowhere a whirl wind appeared before disappearing to show Kouga glowering while one of his pups sat in his arms. Giving a worried grin, Seiya said, “I take it you haven’t been to happy with us either, Kouga?”
Sniffing loudly the wolf shifted his pup before saying, “You’re damn right I’m pissed off. But that’s not why I’m here. I’ve already yelled at your mate about his leaving that cat in charge while he was gone. Besides, it was his choice not yours, but my job is to escort you back to the palace since the council has already gotten wind of what’s happened between the two of you meaning your presence is required at the next council meeting. And what the hell is that shiny thing on your hand?”
Grimacing, Seiya shoved his hand back in his pocket while saying that it was nothing before Inuyasha snatched his friends hand out of the pocket and smirked triumphantly as he said, “So that’s why you two morons stayed an extra month. Kagome told me about that country and it’s strange customs. I’m glad that you guys didn’t tell her since I’m not going to be the one punished for the problems you guys cause.”
Punching his friends head, Seiya said, “You know just because you’re brother and I are married in a human manner doesn’t mean you can still be an asshole.” He knew this was a bad thing to say as Kouga started muttering things about the council under his breath. Looking over to his bodyguard, Seiya rubbed his wrist and said, “Screw the council, I don’t live by their laws and I don’t plan on following their laws even if I’m married to a lord.”
Rubbing his nose, Kouga shrugged and headed back to the house while Seiya put his pack back on and followed the wolf with Inuyasha hot on his heels. The forest hadn’t changed much, there was nothing new to be seen, save for a small patch of cut down forest which Seiya was sure pissed off a certain demon he’d only met once in his life. He could see the village straight ahead and was glad to find that everyone was out and about doing whatever they did best. Some of the village children came up and said hello before scurrying back to their chores and it wasn’t long until Seiya was forcing back an overzealous Ah-Un.
Pushing the two heads away from him, Seiya scratched each one between the eyes and said, “I missed you as well. But, I need to go and see Kagome and break some news to her before she kills me.” After saying the last few words, he could tell by the look in the lizard’s eyes that his best friend was right behind him. Turning he smiled at her and was glad to see that she was smiling as well, but the problem was that she was holding a knife in her hand. Seiya contemplated telling her that he was married, but decided to pull his friend into a strong hug before separating and sliding his hand in his pocket.
Upon release, Kagome smiled herself and asked, “So what did you need to tell me that requires my killing you?” Glancing back and forth for a bit of help, Seiya soon discovered that he was alone in his endeavor as Kouga was handing the baby off to Ayame and Inuyasha was sitting on the roof of their house waiting for the beating to begin. Not receiving an answer though was making Kagome a angry and it was easy to tell as she was rolling the point of the knife on her forefinger as she asked, “What that you only called me three times during your whole trip? I was busy so don’t worry about that, and besides you were with family and Sesshomaru so I’m not going to kill you over that.”
Thinking that he was getting off light, Seiya was going to go with that story when INuyasha yelled, “Look at his left hand you dolt!” But, was only rewarded with a mouthful of dirt at calling his wife a name, to the delight of not only some villagers, but the wolf family that was in their company.
Trying to back away onto Ah-Un, Seiya was soon overcome by Kagome wrenching his hand out of his pocket and staring at the gold circle encompassing his ring finger. Stuttering out an explanation, the human was soon screaming in pain as Kagome pummeled him with her fists shouting, “You bastard! You got married and you didn’t even think to wait until you got back?! What is this some sort of revenge for all those times I left you hanging when I was searching for the jewel? I invited you to mine and you don’t even let me go to yours, I hate you!”
Seiya felt many things on his body that day, fists, feet, pots, pans along with bruises and pain following shortly after the blows. It seemed to go on forever until a voice shouted, “Let go of him or you’re going to deal with me!” Looking up through a swollen eye, Seiya saw Kiba standing there with a dagger in his hand ready to kill. He was glad that the sprite was there to help, but he wasn’t in too much pain. Kagome may have been angry but she wasn’t that violent even when applying a beating to somebody.
Huffing loudly, Kagome stormed off into the hut while Seiya painstakingly got to his feet and said, “Thanks for the help Kiba, but I didn’t need it. She was just venting, see?” Sei pointed to his cheek and showed that it was a light bruise that had appeared and waved it away. Still the Inu pup didn’t let that shrug off his duty as he sat in his boss’ lap like Shippou did with Kagome all those years ago.
Holding the pup, Seiya allowed Kaede to tend to his wounds while he explained what happened over the course of their trip. “Well you see, it was my birthday. Ow watch it with that, and I got all these great gifts. One was from my dad that’s tucked away in a safety deposit box, another was from Rin which is sitting next to my bed, and this ring was from Sesshomaru, of course we didn’t wear these until a few weeks later.”
Looking over at his best friend, Seiya stuck out his tongue saying, “So it wasn’t my idea to get married Kagome. Sesshomaru thought it all on his own as he sat in a café with Michelle and Sara, who is no longer allowed near the baby. Although it’s really rather funny that he got the idea while sitting in a café located in a city’s gay district.”
Spitting out her tea, Kagome looked over at her best friend and said, “Sesshomaru went to a gay district? What the heck for?” She was a bit perturbed at her friend not noticing her shock as he explained to the group what a gay district was. Kouga and Ayame were amused, while Kiba and Inuyasha had looks of discomfort on their faces. Kiba’s from wondering why his master went there, and INuyasha at the thought of his brother being comfortable in a human settlement.
Beating her friend head with the tea kettle, Kagome shook him as she shouted, “Why the hell were you in a gay district?! I’ve been trying to take you to the one in Shinjuku for two years and you decide to go with your cousins and husband?!” Seiya shoved his friend away out of what the others could sense was actual anger. Seiya always had patience when it came to Kagome but today she was hitting the wrong nerves.
Standing up he looked down at his friend with a glare and said, “I was taken their by my cousins without any knowledge of what was going on. And this,” he pointed at the ring, “was done because it was legal and Sesshomaru wished it and we wanted it done while we were there. I love you to death Kagome and I would have invited you but it needed to be done quickly. So if you’d stop jumping down my throat and yelling at me like you with Inuyasha, you might get the answers you want without anyone getting mad at you.”
The girl remained silent after her friend finished, and Seiya allowed Kaede to finish fixing his wounds while Inuyasha and the others remained silent. They all knew he had a point, Kagome rarely let anyone get in their side of the story and for once she was put in her place. When it was over with, Seiya grabbed his bag and pulled out his laptop and put in a disc before saying, “Now do you want to watch the wedding or not?”
Recovering almost immediately, Kagome slid in next to her friend while Inuyasha spent a minute telling Kouga and the others what was going on. Once it was ready, Seiya started the DVD with a small speech from Rin who said, “The person filming is Grandma Michelle. She told me that you might like to have a copy of the days events so I’m going to be your guide. Just so you know, Papa and Father are going to go through what is known as a Catholic wedding. I don’t know what that means but there’s a lot of people around and it’s going to be fun. So let’s go and see who’s here.”
First stop on the tour was the kitchen where Debbie was finishing up her food preps. She was a bit calmer, which meant that it was about time for the wedding and Michelle was the one who asked questions, while Rin snuck a couple of cookies to the younger kids passing through. Seiya told everyone who she was and what was being said as she shifted between English and Italian before kicking them out.
Next was the men, Seiya’s uncles, grandfather, and dad were all giving their congratulations to the two and were a bit more polite than usual. Seiya told them it was because they’d been a bunch of jackasses the night before and were trying to make up for it. Next were his aunts, who were a bit giddy, wine of course, followed shortly by Seiya’s cousins and a few guests.
Of course Jessy and Sara had their own little comments to make. Sara was still a bit mad at Sesshomaru but congratulated him and said in Japanese that she would still help him if any problems were to occur. And, Jessy was caught half naked in his bedroom getting into his robes. The screen went blank for a minute and then he was back fully clothed, explaining to a few people what his job was. Rin all the while was doing an excellent job at narrating and giving her own little side comments and for some odd reason Sesshomaru said a few words.
Staring blankly into the screen he said, “I’m doing this out of love for Seiya. I know how much he wanted to do this his whole life and I want him to know that this Sesshomaru is more than willing to let him have what he deserves.” Seiya paused the DVD because his friends started making weird comments about what was going to happen when Seiya muttered something about Sesshomaru needing an ice pack on his butt the next morning. A comment which earned him a punch to the head by Inuyasha and a laugh by Kagome.
After that it cut to the wedding, where the two were making their way down the aisle, where Seiya was too slow to hit the skip button and the group saw Sesshomaru nearly fall flat on his face. Cursing himself, Seiya heard Inuyasha fall to the floor laughing his ass off, while Ayame and Kouga giggled a bit and Kiba began asking if his lord was all right. Looking to his friend, Seiya saw that Kagome had a look of relief on her face and he knew why. Sesshomaru was caught before he could fall on his stomach and possibly kill the baby.
When he gave her a wink, Kagome smiled happily and sat Inuyasha five times, while Seiya began explaining that while funny, it nearly killed his and Sesshomaru’s pup. After that explanation and Inuyasha’s punishment. They finished watching the film in peace. Before it stopped, Seiya’s face appeared on screen with huge grin as he said, “Well that’s my wedding. Never thought you’d see it happen huh folks. But it has, and I’m glad. Now I got a lot of years left on my life and well...let’s just say that with this guy,” Seiya pulled Sesshomaru in and kissed his head before looking at the camera and saying, “and his family, life is not going to be boring. Thanks again and I hope you enjoyed the film.”
The screen black, Sei shoved the device back into his pack and said, “Time to get going, I have some more copies at home and I gave two to your mom. But, I have more pressing matters, see you later.” He gave Kagome a hug, and Inuyasha a firm handshake before heading out and climbing on his steed with Kiba in his lap. Waving goodbye they took the air while Kouga ran beneath them in the direction of the castle.
Kiba was uncharacteristically quiet as they flew and Seiya was glad about that. Normally the little dog would be discussing some weird new scheme he’d come up with, but Seiya was sure that his silence was due to the sight of his lord nearly hurting himself and the baby. Kiba was devoted whole heartedly to Sesshomaru and would do anything to protect his lord and the ones he cared about. And by not being there when his lord needed him, Seiya felt that Kiba was a bit mad at himself for not being able to protect his master.
Scratching his companions ear, Seiya said, “Don’t worry Kiba, I was there to protect Sesshomaru. And I’m sure you’re aware that he and the baby are safe.” Smiling down at the pup, the human was glad to see that his friend was looking a bit better so he decided to ask, ‘What’s Sesshomaru looking like anyway? I haven’t seen him in nearly a month, has he been moody or anything?”
Scratching his chin, the Inu sprite shook his head saying, “He’s not really moody just a bit preoccupied. Koura-san did very well at keeping up with all of his work and diplomatic duties, problem was some council members got a hold of the information about your pup and well, Sesshomaru-sama has had to deal with some hostels. Also he’s getting a bit bigger and Isayu-san has learned the baby’s gender but she’s going to tell you in a few days. She’s a bit preoccupied with some things and Sesshomaru-sama isn’t helping her mood any either.”
Seiya chuckled a bit at the news and was glad to see his mate was doing well without him. He had a sneaking suspicion that Sesshomaru would fall into a bit of a slump without him but now he knew otherwise. Looking down, Seiya saw that Kouga had reached a hill and was waving at them to land. So, he directed the dragon to the ground and asked his friend, “What the hell are we stopping for? We’re barely a quarter of the way there?”
Putting a finger to his mouth, Kouga grabbed the reigns and led them into the woods. A bit frightened, Seiya removed the blade Sesshomaru gave him and set in his lap while Kiba kept a look out. When they were a short distance in, Kouga looked and said, “Something is following us so stay here while I look for it.” Climbing down from the dragon, Seiya unsheathed his blade and watched as Kouga headed out of the forest, leaving the human alone with his demon friends.
Half an hour later, Kouga didn’t reappear, and Seiya quietly pulled Ah-Un to the forest edge to find Kouga in a heated discussion with a weird looking dragon demon. Keeping hidden, he shushed Kiba and the steed as he heard Kouga say, “You bastards aren’t recruiting me for something like that. My loyalty belongs to those that are related to me if distantly. That means my wolf clans men and the dog clan and they’re allies. So get the hell out of my way and let me head towards my territory.”
Smirking the lizard said, “You’re loyalty belongs to that blood traitor? Granted it’s somewhat accepted for half-breeds to reproduce with humans, but when a demon lord goes and does it that is unforgivable. My lord Ryokotsei thankfully mortally wounded that bastards father two centuries ago, but it’s pathetic that both sons should follow in the father’s footsteps. The child or parent must be killed. Of course we could do both easily, but we’ll prefer stamping out his child in order to cause the slow painful death of both child and it’s parents. But, since you won’t join us, you will be targeted as well. Farewell Wolf lord.”
Stepping out of the woods, Seiya asked, “So, Sesshomaru and I are marked for death?” Kouga nodded making Seiya laugh as he said, “Well I’ve had people want me dead for a long time. I’ve lived this long and I have a feeling somehow we’ll live through this.” Kouga grunted an agreement and decided to set up camp on the cliff they were sitting on. After a meal of boar and fruit, the three group settled down for a few hours sleep before rushing off the next morning to the castle.
The encounter last night seemed to put an extra burst of speed behind Ah-Un’s flying and Kouga was booking it as well. They made the trip in a little over half the time it normally would and when they landed in the village, Seiya was immediately rushed by some villagers welcoming him back. Like Kagome, the children took to him and he always made sure to visit some of them when he was in the village. They never asked for gifts but he always brought some toys for them and Isayu kept them at her house for safe keeping.
This time he didn’t have any, but was glad that they all showed the gifts he gave them were still in excellent condition. Promising to play with them in a couple days he led Ah-Un up the path to the castle with Kouga glaring in all directions looking for any sign of attack. Upon reaching the door, Seiya gave a sharp whistle that got the attention of a guard who shouted down, “Lord Seiya and Lord Kouga have arrived open the gate you fools!”
The gate creaked open enough to allow the group passage and once they were a safe distance in, a guard took Ah-Un to the stable while Shiba dashed forward into Seiya’s arms. Hugging her briefly, Seiya said, “Glad to see you missed me. Everything going okay around here?” The pup nodded happily and glared down at her brother who was drawing a picture in the ground.
Hopping down the girl Sprite said, “And you were supposed to send word when you got him!” Sticking his tongue out Kiba went back to his drawing, but was soon in a wrestling match with his sister while, Seiya watched smirking as Kouga talked with the Captain of the Guard about what had happened on their trip with the dragon demon.
The guard nodded and began telling his men to keep a sharp look out and shifts were to be longer when out of nowhere a stern voice said, “Shiba, Kiba stop that pointless bickering and get to your duties.” The Sprites separated and bowed deeply before scurrying off to tend to the castle’s chores while Sesshomaru stepped out of the shadows shocking Seiya slightly at his appearance.
The demon lord was dressed in his usual white robes, along with a light set of armor covering the front. He was barefoot and his pants were loose as well, but what shocked Seiya the most was how much his mate’s stomach had grown in the past month. Sesshomaru was about five months along when they left Canada, but now at a few days shy of six his stomach was easily four times larger and clearly showing. Stepping forward a bit, Seiya got to his knees and put his hands on his mate’s stomach and laughed at Sesshomaru brushing his hair away and saying, “She’s ours there’s no mistaking it.”
Placing a small kiss on the protruding belly, Seiya felt a sharp pain in his mouth as Sesshomaru’s legs buckled a bit from a kick that came from inside his body. Looking up at his mate, Seiya pulled out a slightly bloodied finger and said, “Yeah that’s our baby all right. Your strength and I don’t know what it got from me. Wait a minute you said it’s a girl?” His question was answered by Sesshomaru pulling him up and kissing him, Seiya hugged the demon and said, “How’d you find out?”
Gripping his mate’s hand, Sesshomaru sighed from his discomfort saying, “I became dizzy a few days ago and broke some dishes in the kitchen. Rin saw it and went to grab Isayu and she did an exam on this Sesshomaru. Apparently, my energy was failing and she didn’t know why. But, before she left she blurted out that our child is a female. Which is what I hoped for, since because of my years alone with Rin, I feel I’m able to handle females better than males. Although I will need to produce a male for the sake of my territory.”
Groaning at the misgonystic attitude his mate had about males making better rulers than females, Seiya looked to Sesshomaru and said, “Somebody is planning to kill us and the baby.” Looking over at Kouga, Sesshomaru saw the wolf nod and mention something about being approached to join in, but lucky for them, Kouga resisted and offered his full support in protecting them.
Nodding at the wolf, Sesshomaru said, “Stay here for a few days we have business to discuss.” When Kouga was gone, Sesshomaru led Seiya over to the go board and began a game as he said, “I knew that this was supposed to happen, Seiya. I’ve gone through human mating ceremony, mated a tainted human and am carrying his child. Our lives were in danger the day I marked you and I’ve been forging alliances should a war break out. I have six clans keeping their oaths to my father and with Koura’s clan and my foolish brother we have a chance should one happen.”
When he finished they both already had twelve moves played and Seiya was in the lead as he said, “If we die, I want our child raised in the future along with Rin. They’ll be safer there and there’s a good chance that none of our enemies know about the well’s powers. Can you do that for their sake?”
Nodding, Sesshomaru said, “I’m glad to see that you realize the severity of the situation, Sei. You’re right they are our enemies not my enemies and I will discuss it with my brother on taking care of our children should Khiluial be born before anything sever happens.” Seiya dropped a stone as he heard Sesshomaru use the name he picked. Granted he’d chosen a girls name in Sindarin on Sesshomaru’s hunch that it was a girl. But to hear his husband use it so naturally made him start to cry softly.
Shaking his head, Sesshomaru got up and held his mate saying, “It’s the name you chose for her, so I’m using it and I’ve seen that thing called a birth certificate and if she’s born in your time, or if we have to create an identity for her in the future we’ll put Mizutani, Khiluial on the damn thing.” Hearing his mate laugh, Sesshomaru felt his heart ease up before feeling Seiya’s hand roll the ring on his finger. Smirking, Sesshomaru said to the human, “I’m not taking this off in this time. It’s my connection to you for when we’re separated.”
When he said that a loud tutting noise came from a few feet away. Growling, Sesshomaru said, “What is it old woman. This is my palace so I’d like to know who let you in without notifying me?” Sesshomaru was then met with a small laugh as Seiya caught sight of a young woman standing before them. He’d never seen her before and was about to ask who she was when Sesshomaru said, “It’s Isayu, she’s been using her younger form lately and now she’s come to tell me why I got dizzy correct?”
Sitting down and placing a stone down on the board the woman said, “Correct milord as usual. I have found out why you nearly fainted awhile back and he’s sitting in front of me.;” She pointed at Seiya and said, “Because you two were separated for so long your body began to get week. Without your mate around you’re body began to shut down a bit to conserve energy and with Lord Seiya in another time the effects were greater than they should have been. Normally you would have experienced a lack of energy, but because of the odd circumstances, your body treated it as if he’d been gone for months.”
Looking at Seiya with a dagger like glare, the old horse said haughtily, “So, I’m suggesting that you two always be in the same time no matter what the circumstance. Granted, Lord Seiya can visit your brother and you remain here. Or you go through the well and visit his family you’ll be fine so long as you’re in the same era. Unless he’s gone for extraneously long periods of time while on either side of the well you’ll be fine and the baby as well. She’s quite powerful as I’m sure you’re aware of, right Seiya?”
Rubbing his jaw, Seiya muttered his agreement as the old horse excused herself and left them to their own devices. Settling back on his side of the board, the pair finished their game with Seiya coming out a point in the lead with a smug smirk on his face. Sesshomaru began to clean up the board as his mate said, "Glad to see you can walk correctly now." Stopping Sesshomaru glared up at his mate before putting the stones away as Seiya laughed at the memory of watching Sesshomaru the morning after their wedding night.
Nobody would have expected to see the demon lord sitting with a pack of ice on his butt, while laying in bed watching television as his mate and daughter went about the day. Hell, not even Seiya thought it was possible to do such a thing, but he did and he felt proud to do it. Not that he liked seeing Sesshomaru barely able to walk, but it did bring some sort of satisfaction to his soul knowing he could do that to the demon being a the “mere human,” that he was.
When the pieces were put away, Seiya headed off into the bath while Sesshomaru settled into their room and went over some letters he’d received. One was from Orochi that read,
Lord Sesshomaru,
It has come to my attention that you and the human boy you took into your service has become not only your mate in both human and demonic sense. I swore to your father that I’d protect you and I offer you what little support I can, but there are those in my clan who are against you and have gone into hiding. Many other council members are going against you as well, but when and where they will strike is beyond my knowledge. It could be tomorrow or many centuries from now, but be on your guard no matter where you go. I’ve heard of this boy and how he had slain many of his assailants those months ago and with your claiming him after Polong tainting him is a serious crime against our ways, I still find this boy to be most admirable and worthy of you. I just pray that he can survive what repercussions you two may face even with the support you have.

Setting the letter aside, Sesshomaru got out of his robes and into bed clothes. When he removed his top he stared at what use to be what was called a “washboard stomach.” Now it was protruding and somewhat odd looking on his body. He’d seen women like this in his village, but in his whole life he never expected to have the look of one. It was odd, but not as odd as Seiya appearing behind and wrapping his hands around his stomach and saying, “Don’t worry about your looks. It may be a bit weird, but I’m used to it and in a few months after she’s born I’m sure with your blood you’ll look as you used to in no time.”
Grunting, Sesshomaru put on the top part of his robe and settled down onto the futon and watched as Seiya slid on his pajama bottoms and curled up next to him. They laid in each others arms, out of both fear of being attacked and thinking about what it would be like raising the baby. Human and demon, with both parents around and dealing with attacks from other demons. This child may have it tough like Inuyasha, but the worse part was that she’d have her parents while Inuyasha was left alone. All they could do was hope and pray that nothing would happen to cause any harm, but like most wishful thinkers the things they hoped that would never happen were about to.
Chapter 40
“Oh man, why’d this have to happen now?” Looking down, Seiya could see that his leg had caught on a vine inside the well. And since he was wearing his brace, tugging on it only seemed to loosen the bolts in it and make it sag on his leg. He held on with one hand and sliced the plant with a small switch blade and made his way up the ladder and fell to the ground panting heavily.
It’d been a long while since he’d had to climb that ladder, and carrying a heavy bag wasn’t helping his ability to climb. Catching his breath, he reached into his bag and pulled out a screwdriver and tightened his brace up before feeling himself be lifted of the ground by the neck of his shirt. Looking a bit worried he jumped at the sight of seeing a grumpy faced Inuyasha staring at him. Smiling broadly he said, “Good to see ya pal. How’ve you guys been the past couple of months?”
Bad question to ask since he knew that after spending the past couple of weeks with no contact between him, his mate, or family, Seiya was on a couple of people’s shit lists. He’d spent two weeks cleaning up his house and finishing up his exams before rushing off to visit Kagome at the hospital, only to find she was given a couple of weeks off to her taking so many shifts. He was a bit saddened by the fact that he couldn’t see his friend, but was a bit frightened at the though of facing her since he hadn’t told her about his getting married and having it at his family’s home and not in Japan.
When he’d arrived at the airport he found Tommy and his girlfriend waiting with the keys to his car. He’d left them his spare set and had them come and get his car so he wouldn’t be stuck paying a fortune in parking fees when he got back. But he was glad to be home and knew that Sesshomaru and Rin wanted to go back through the well. He’d showed his friends what had happened and they were glad, if a bit concerned, but they gave him their blessings and left.
Now he was stuck with an upset hanyou staring at him pissed off for some odd reason and it was all he could do to break loose as Inuyasha asked, “Where the hell have you been? That bastard brother of mine was back three weeks ago and for some reason nobody has heard anything from you. Kagome’s in a panic and the others are worried so you’d better have a damn good excuse for making Kagome worry like this.”
Brushing off his pants, Seiya said, “I had my exams to finish and needed to clean my house. Besides that, Sesshomaru had to bring Rin back so she could get on with her lessons and deal with all the diplomatic problems he had and I don’t think Koura appreciated us staying away for an extra month on top of that.” He knew he’d struck a nerve as out of nowhere a whirl wind appeared before disappearing to show Kouga glowering while one of his pups sat in his arms. Giving a worried grin, Seiya said, “I take it you haven’t been to happy with us either, Kouga?”
Sniffing loudly the wolf shifted his pup before saying, “You’re damn right I’m pissed off. But that’s not why I’m here. I’ve already yelled at your mate about his leaving that cat in charge while he was gone. Besides, it was his choice not yours, but my job is to escort you back to the palace since the council has already gotten wind of what’s happened between the two of you meaning your presence is required at the next council meeting. And what the hell is that shiny thing on your hand?”
Grimacing, Seiya shoved his hand back in his pocket while saying that it was nothing before Inuyasha snatched his friends hand out of the pocket and smirked triumphantly as he said, “So that’s why you two morons stayed an extra month. Kagome told me about that country and it’s strange customs. I’m glad that you guys didn’t tell her since I’m not going to be the one punished for the problems you guys cause.”
Punching his friends head, Seiya said, “You know just because you’re brother and I are married in a human manner doesn’t mean you can still be an asshole.” He knew this was a bad thing to say as Kouga started muttering things about the council under his breath. Looking over to his bodyguard, Seiya rubbed his wrist and said, “Screw the council, I don’t live by their laws and I don’t plan on following their laws even if I’m married to a lord.”
Rubbing his nose, Kouga shrugged and headed back to the house while Seiya put his pack back on and followed the wolf with Inuyasha hot on his heels. The forest hadn’t changed much, there was nothing new to be seen, save for a small patch of cut down forest which Seiya was sure pissed off a certain demon he’d only met once in his life. He could see the village straight ahead and was glad to find that everyone was out and about doing whatever they did best. Some of the village children came up and said hello before scurrying back to their chores and it wasn’t long until Seiya was forcing back an overzealous Ah-Un.
Pushing the two heads away from him, Seiya scratched each one between the eyes and said, “I missed you as well. But, I need to go and see Kagome and break some news to her before she kills me.” After saying the last few words, he could tell by the look in the lizard’s eyes that his best friend was right behind him. Turning he smiled at her and was glad to see that she was smiling as well, but the problem was that she was holding a knife in her hand. Seiya contemplated telling her that he was married, but decided to pull his friend into a strong hug before separating and sliding his hand in his pocket.
Upon release, Kagome smiled herself and asked, “So what did you need to tell me that requires my killing you?” Glancing back and forth for a bit of help, Seiya soon discovered that he was alone in his endeavor as Kouga was handing the baby off to Ayame and Inuyasha was sitting on the roof of their house waiting for the beating to begin. Not receiving an answer though was making Kagome a angry and it was easy to tell as she was rolling the point of the knife on her forefinger as she asked, “What that you only called me three times during your whole trip? I was busy so don’t worry about that, and besides you were with family and Sesshomaru so I’m not going to kill you over that.”
Thinking that he was getting off light, Seiya was going to go with that story when INuyasha yelled, “Look at his left hand you dolt!” But, was only rewarded with a mouthful of dirt at calling his wife a name, to the delight of not only some villagers, but the wolf family that was in their company.
Trying to back away onto Ah-Un, Seiya was soon overcome by Kagome wrenching his hand out of his pocket and staring at the gold circle encompassing his ring finger. Stuttering out an explanation, the human was soon screaming in pain as Kagome pummeled him with her fists shouting, “You bastard! You got married and you didn’t even think to wait until you got back?! What is this some sort of revenge for all those times I left you hanging when I was searching for the jewel? I invited you to mine and you don’t even let me go to yours, I hate you!”
Seiya felt many things on his body that day, fists, feet, pots, pans along with bruises and pain following shortly after the blows. It seemed to go on forever until a voice shouted, “Let go of him or you’re going to deal with me!” Looking up through a swollen eye, Seiya saw Kiba standing there with a dagger in his hand ready to kill. He was glad that the sprite was there to help, but he wasn’t in too much pain. Kagome may have been angry but she wasn’t that violent even when applying a beating to somebody.
Huffing loudly, Kagome stormed off into the hut while Seiya painstakingly got to his feet and said, “Thanks for the help Kiba, but I didn’t need it. She was just venting, see?” Sei pointed to his cheek and showed that it was a light bruise that had appeared and waved it away. Still the Inu pup didn’t let that shrug off his duty as he sat in his boss’ lap like Shippou did with Kagome all those years ago.
Holding the pup, Seiya allowed Kaede to tend to his wounds while he explained what happened over the course of their trip. “Well you see, it was my birthday. Ow watch it with that, and I got all these great gifts. One was from my dad that’s tucked away in a safety deposit box, another was from Rin which is sitting next to my bed, and this ring was from Sesshomaru, of course we didn’t wear these until a few weeks later.”
Looking over at his best friend, Seiya stuck out his tongue saying, “So it wasn’t my idea to get married Kagome. Sesshomaru thought it all on his own as he sat in a café with Michelle and Sara, who is no longer allowed near the baby. Although it’s really rather funny that he got the idea while sitting in a café located in a city’s gay district.”
Spitting out her tea, Kagome looked over at her best friend and said, “Sesshomaru went to a gay district? What the heck for?” She was a bit perturbed at her friend not noticing her shock as he explained to the group what a gay district was. Kouga and Ayame were amused, while Kiba and Inuyasha had looks of discomfort on their faces. Kiba’s from wondering why his master went there, and INuyasha at the thought of his brother being comfortable in a human settlement.
Beating her friend head with the tea kettle, Kagome shook him as she shouted, “Why the hell were you in a gay district?! I’ve been trying to take you to the one in Shinjuku for two years and you decide to go with your cousins and husband?!” Seiya shoved his friend away out of what the others could sense was actual anger. Seiya always had patience when it came to Kagome but today she was hitting the wrong nerves.
Standing up he looked down at his friend with a glare and said, “I was taken their by my cousins without any knowledge of what was going on. And this,” he pointed at the ring, “was done because it was legal and Sesshomaru wished it and we wanted it done while we were there. I love you to death Kagome and I would have invited you but it needed to be done quickly. So if you’d stop jumping down my throat and yelling at me like you with Inuyasha, you might get the answers you want without anyone getting mad at you.”
The girl remained silent after her friend finished, and Seiya allowed Kaede to finish fixing his wounds while Inuyasha and the others remained silent. They all knew he had a point, Kagome rarely let anyone get in their side of the story and for once she was put in her place. When it was over with, Seiya grabbed his bag and pulled out his laptop and put in a disc before saying, “Now do you want to watch the wedding or not?”
Recovering almost immediately, Kagome slid in next to her friend while Inuyasha spent a minute telling Kouga and the others what was going on. Once it was ready, Seiya started the DVD with a small speech from Rin who said, “The person filming is Grandma Michelle. She told me that you might like to have a copy of the days events so I’m going to be your guide. Just so you know, Papa and Father are going to go through what is known as a Catholic wedding. I don’t know what that means but there’s a lot of people around and it’s going to be fun. So let’s go and see who’s here.”
First stop on the tour was the kitchen where Debbie was finishing up her food preps. She was a bit calmer, which meant that it was about time for the wedding and Michelle was the one who asked questions, while Rin snuck a couple of cookies to the younger kids passing through. Seiya told everyone who she was and what was being said as she shifted between English and Italian before kicking them out.
Next was the men, Seiya’s uncles, grandfather, and dad were all giving their congratulations to the two and were a bit more polite than usual. Seiya told them it was because they’d been a bunch of jackasses the night before and were trying to make up for it. Next were his aunts, who were a bit giddy, wine of course, followed shortly by Seiya’s cousins and a few guests.
Of course Jessy and Sara had their own little comments to make. Sara was still a bit mad at Sesshomaru but congratulated him and said in Japanese that she would still help him if any problems were to occur. And, Jessy was caught half naked in his bedroom getting into his robes. The screen went blank for a minute and then he was back fully clothed, explaining to a few people what his job was. Rin all the while was doing an excellent job at narrating and giving her own little side comments and for some odd reason Sesshomaru said a few words.
Staring blankly into the screen he said, “I’m doing this out of love for Seiya. I know how much he wanted to do this his whole life and I want him to know that this Sesshomaru is more than willing to let him have what he deserves.” Seiya paused the DVD because his friends started making weird comments about what was going to happen when Seiya muttered something about Sesshomaru needing an ice pack on his butt the next morning. A comment which earned him a punch to the head by Inuyasha and a laugh by Kagome.
After that it cut to the wedding, where the two were making their way down the aisle, where Seiya was too slow to hit the skip button and the group saw Sesshomaru nearly fall flat on his face. Cursing himself, Seiya heard Inuyasha fall to the floor laughing his ass off, while Ayame and Kouga giggled a bit and Kiba began asking if his lord was all right. Looking to his friend, Seiya saw that Kagome had a look of relief on her face and he knew why. Sesshomaru was caught before he could fall on his stomach and possibly kill the baby.
When he gave her a wink, Kagome smiled happily and sat Inuyasha five times, while Seiya began explaining that while funny, it nearly killed his and Sesshomaru’s pup. After that explanation and Inuyasha’s punishment. They finished watching the film in peace. Before it stopped, Seiya’s face appeared on screen with huge grin as he said, “Well that’s my wedding. Never thought you’d see it happen huh folks. But it has, and I’m glad. Now I got a lot of years left on my life and well...let’s just say that with this guy,” Seiya pulled Sesshomaru in and kissed his head before looking at the camera and saying, “and his family, life is not going to be boring. Thanks again and I hope you enjoyed the film.”
The screen black, Sei shoved the device back into his pack and said, “Time to get going, I have some more copies at home and I gave two to your mom. But, I have more pressing matters, see you later.” He gave Kagome a hug, and Inuyasha a firm handshake before heading out and climbing on his steed with Kiba in his lap. Waving goodbye they took the air while Kouga ran beneath them in the direction of the castle.
Kiba was uncharacteristically quiet as they flew and Seiya was glad about that. Normally the little dog would be discussing some weird new scheme he’d come up with, but Seiya was sure that his silence was due to the sight of his lord nearly hurting himself and the baby. Kiba was devoted whole heartedly to Sesshomaru and would do anything to protect his lord and the ones he cared about. And by not being there when his lord needed him, Seiya felt that Kiba was a bit mad at himself for not being able to protect his master.
Scratching his companions ear, Seiya said, “Don’t worry Kiba, I was there to protect Sesshomaru. And I’m sure you’re aware that he and the baby are safe.” Smiling down at the pup, the human was glad to see that his friend was looking a bit better so he decided to ask, ‘What’s Sesshomaru looking like anyway? I haven’t seen him in nearly a month, has he been moody or anything?”
Scratching his chin, the Inu sprite shook his head saying, “He’s not really moody just a bit preoccupied. Koura-san did very well at keeping up with all of his work and diplomatic duties, problem was some council members got a hold of the information about your pup and well, Sesshomaru-sama has had to deal with some hostels. Also he’s getting a bit bigger and Isayu-san has learned the baby’s gender but she’s going to tell you in a few days. She’s a bit preoccupied with some things and Sesshomaru-sama isn’t helping her mood any either.”
Seiya chuckled a bit at the news and was glad to see his mate was doing well without him. He had a sneaking suspicion that Sesshomaru would fall into a bit of a slump without him but now he knew otherwise. Looking down, Seiya saw that Kouga had reached a hill and was waving at them to land. So, he directed the dragon to the ground and asked his friend, “What the hell are we stopping for? We’re barely a quarter of the way there?”
Putting a finger to his mouth, Kouga grabbed the reigns and led them into the woods. A bit frightened, Seiya removed the blade Sesshomaru gave him and set in his lap while Kiba kept a look out. When they were a short distance in, Kouga looked and said, “Something is following us so stay here while I look for it.” Climbing down from the dragon, Seiya unsheathed his blade and watched as Kouga headed out of the forest, leaving the human alone with his demon friends.
Half an hour later, Kouga didn’t reappear, and Seiya quietly pulled Ah-Un to the forest edge to find Kouga in a heated discussion with a weird looking dragon demon. Keeping hidden, he shushed Kiba and the steed as he heard Kouga say, “You bastards aren’t recruiting me for something like that. My loyalty belongs to those that are related to me if distantly. That means my wolf clans men and the dog clan and they’re allies. So get the hell out of my way and let me head towards my territory.”
Smirking the lizard said, “You’re loyalty belongs to that blood traitor? Granted it’s somewhat accepted for half-breeds to reproduce with humans, but when a demon lord goes and does it that is unforgivable. My lord Ryokotsei thankfully mortally wounded that bastards father two centuries ago, but it’s pathetic that both sons should follow in the father’s footsteps. The child or parent must be killed. Of course we could do both easily, but we’ll prefer stamping out his child in order to cause the slow painful death of both child and it’s parents. But, since you won’t join us, you will be targeted as well. Farewell Wolf lord.”
Stepping out of the woods, Seiya asked, “So, Sesshomaru and I are marked for death?” Kouga nodded making Seiya laugh as he said, “Well I’ve had people want me dead for a long time. I’ve lived this long and I have a feeling somehow we’ll live through this.” Kouga grunted an agreement and decided to set up camp on the cliff they were sitting on. After a meal of boar and fruit, the three group settled down for a few hours sleep before rushing off the next morning to the castle.
The encounter last night seemed to put an extra burst of speed behind Ah-Un’s flying and Kouga was booking it as well. They made the trip in a little over half the time it normally would and when they landed in the village, Seiya was immediately rushed by some villagers welcoming him back. Like Kagome, the children took to him and he always made sure to visit some of them when he was in the village. They never asked for gifts but he always brought some toys for them and Isayu kept them at her house for safe keeping.
This time he didn’t have any, but was glad that they all showed the gifts he gave them were still in excellent condition. Promising to play with them in a couple days he led Ah-Un up the path to the castle with Kouga glaring in all directions looking for any sign of attack. Upon reaching the door, Seiya gave a sharp whistle that got the attention of a guard who shouted down, “Lord Seiya and Lord Kouga have arrived open the gate you fools!”
The gate creaked open enough to allow the group passage and once they were a safe distance in, a guard took Ah-Un to the stable while Shiba dashed forward into Seiya’s arms. Hugging her briefly, Seiya said, “Glad to see you missed me. Everything going okay around here?” The pup nodded happily and glared down at her brother who was drawing a picture in the ground.
Hopping down the girl Sprite said, “And you were supposed to send word when you got him!” Sticking his tongue out Kiba went back to his drawing, but was soon in a wrestling match with his sister while, Seiya watched smirking as Kouga talked with the Captain of the Guard about what had happened on their trip with the dragon demon.
The guard nodded and began telling his men to keep a sharp look out and shifts were to be longer when out of nowhere a stern voice said, “Shiba, Kiba stop that pointless bickering and get to your duties.” The Sprites separated and bowed deeply before scurrying off to tend to the castle’s chores while Sesshomaru stepped out of the shadows shocking Seiya slightly at his appearance.
The demon lord was dressed in his usual white robes, along with a light set of armor covering the front. He was barefoot and his pants were loose as well, but what shocked Seiya the most was how much his mate’s stomach had grown in the past month. Sesshomaru was about five months along when they left Canada, but now at a few days shy of six his stomach was easily four times larger and clearly showing. Stepping forward a bit, Seiya got to his knees and put his hands on his mate’s stomach and laughed at Sesshomaru brushing his hair away and saying, “She’s ours there’s no mistaking it.”
Placing a small kiss on the protruding belly, Seiya felt a sharp pain in his mouth as Sesshomaru’s legs buckled a bit from a kick that came from inside his body. Looking up at his mate, Seiya pulled out a slightly bloodied finger and said, “Yeah that’s our baby all right. Your strength and I don’t know what it got from me. Wait a minute you said it’s a girl?” His question was answered by Sesshomaru pulling him up and kissing him, Seiya hugged the demon and said, “How’d you find out?”
Gripping his mate’s hand, Sesshomaru sighed from his discomfort saying, “I became dizzy a few days ago and broke some dishes in the kitchen. Rin saw it and went to grab Isayu and she did an exam on this Sesshomaru. Apparently, my energy was failing and she didn’t know why. But, before she left she blurted out that our child is a female. Which is what I hoped for, since because of my years alone with Rin, I feel I’m able to handle females better than males. Although I will need to produce a male for the sake of my territory.”
Groaning at the misgonystic attitude his mate had about males making better rulers than females, Seiya looked to Sesshomaru and said, “Somebody is planning to kill us and the baby.” Looking over at Kouga, Sesshomaru saw the wolf nod and mention something about being approached to join in, but lucky for them, Kouga resisted and offered his full support in protecting them.
Nodding at the wolf, Sesshomaru said, “Stay here for a few days we have business to discuss.” When Kouga was gone, Sesshomaru led Seiya over to the go board and began a game as he said, “I knew that this was supposed to happen, Seiya. I’ve gone through human mating ceremony, mated a tainted human and am carrying his child. Our lives were in danger the day I marked you and I’ve been forging alliances should a war break out. I have six clans keeping their oaths to my father and with Koura’s clan and my foolish brother we have a chance should one happen.”
When he finished they both already had twelve moves played and Seiya was in the lead as he said, “If we die, I want our child raised in the future along with Rin. They’ll be safer there and there’s a good chance that none of our enemies know about the well’s powers. Can you do that for their sake?”
Nodding, Sesshomaru said, “I’m glad to see that you realize the severity of the situation, Sei. You’re right they are our enemies not my enemies and I will discuss it with my brother on taking care of our children should Khiluial be born before anything sever happens.” Seiya dropped a stone as he heard Sesshomaru use the name he picked. Granted he’d chosen a girls name in Sindarin on Sesshomaru’s hunch that it was a girl. But to hear his husband use it so naturally made him start to cry softly.
Shaking his head, Sesshomaru got up and held his mate saying, “It’s the name you chose for her, so I’m using it and I’ve seen that thing called a birth certificate and if she’s born in your time, or if we have to create an identity for her in the future we’ll put Mizutani, Khiluial on the damn thing.” Hearing his mate laugh, Sesshomaru felt his heart ease up before feeling Seiya’s hand roll the ring on his finger. Smirking, Sesshomaru said to the human, “I’m not taking this off in this time. It’s my connection to you for when we’re separated.”
When he said that a loud tutting noise came from a few feet away. Growling, Sesshomaru said, “What is it old woman. This is my palace so I’d like to know who let you in without notifying me?” Sesshomaru was then met with a small laugh as Seiya caught sight of a young woman standing before them. He’d never seen her before and was about to ask who she was when Sesshomaru said, “It’s Isayu, she’s been using her younger form lately and now she’s come to tell me why I got dizzy correct?”
Sitting down and placing a stone down on the board the woman said, “Correct milord as usual. I have found out why you nearly fainted awhile back and he’s sitting in front of me.;” She pointed at Seiya and said, “Because you two were separated for so long your body began to get week. Without your mate around you’re body began to shut down a bit to conserve energy and with Lord Seiya in another time the effects were greater than they should have been. Normally you would have experienced a lack of energy, but because of the odd circumstances, your body treated it as if he’d been gone for months.”
Looking at Seiya with a dagger like glare, the old horse said haughtily, “So, I’m suggesting that you two always be in the same time no matter what the circumstance. Granted, Lord Seiya can visit your brother and you remain here. Or you go through the well and visit his family you’ll be fine so long as you’re in the same era. Unless he’s gone for extraneously long periods of time while on either side of the well you’ll be fine and the baby as well. She’s quite powerful as I’m sure you’re aware of, right Seiya?”
Rubbing his jaw, Seiya muttered his agreement as the old horse excused herself and left them to their own devices. Settling back on his side of the board, the pair finished their game with Seiya coming out a point in the lead with a smug smirk on his face. Sesshomaru began to clean up the board as his mate said, "Glad to see you can walk correctly now." Stopping Sesshomaru glared up at his mate before putting the stones away as Seiya laughed at the memory of watching Sesshomaru the morning after their wedding night.
Nobody would have expected to see the demon lord sitting with a pack of ice on his butt, while laying in bed watching television as his mate and daughter went about the day. Hell, not even Seiya thought it was possible to do such a thing, but he did and he felt proud to do it. Not that he liked seeing Sesshomaru barely able to walk, but it did bring some sort of satisfaction to his soul knowing he could do that to the demon being a the “mere human,” that he was.
When the pieces were put away, Seiya headed off into the bath while Sesshomaru settled into their room and went over some letters he’d received. One was from Orochi that read,
Lord Sesshomaru,
It has come to my attention that you and the human boy you took into your service has become not only your mate in both human and demonic sense. I swore to your father that I’d protect you and I offer you what little support I can, but there are those in my clan who are against you and have gone into hiding. Many other council members are going against you as well, but when and where they will strike is beyond my knowledge. It could be tomorrow or many centuries from now, but be on your guard no matter where you go. I’ve heard of this boy and how he had slain many of his assailants those months ago and with your claiming him after Polong tainting him is a serious crime against our ways, I still find this boy to be most admirable and worthy of you. I just pray that he can survive what repercussions you two may face even with the support you have.

Setting the letter aside, Sesshomaru got out of his robes and into bed clothes. When he removed his top he stared at what use to be what was called a “washboard stomach.” Now it was protruding and somewhat odd looking on his body. He’d seen women like this in his village, but in his whole life he never expected to have the look of one. It was odd, but not as odd as Seiya appearing behind and wrapping his hands around his stomach and saying, “Don’t worry about your looks. It may be a bit weird, but I’m used to it and in a few months after she’s born I’m sure with your blood you’ll look as you used to in no time.”
Grunting, Sesshomaru put on the top part of his robe and settled down onto the futon and watched as Seiya slid on his pajama bottoms and curled up next to him. They laid in each others arms, out of both fear of being attacked and thinking about what it would be like raising the baby. Human and demon, with both parents around and dealing with attacks from other demons. This child may have it tough like Inuyasha, but the worse part was that she’d have her parents while Inuyasha was left alone. All they could do was hope and pray that nothing would happen to cause any harm, but like most wishful thinkers the things they hoped that would never happen were about to.
