Okay let’s go a bit of a change again. I have no idea about international time lines, so I’m unsure of if it’s morning or night in Ireland when it’s early afternoon in japan.
Chapter 43
A young girl was walking down the darkened hallway of the facility. Granted she didn’t see the reason why all this was necessary. Granted the boy had damaged the arm of a close friend of hers, and her master had put a good amount of time into finding every trace of this persons’ body. Yet the girl still hated the fact that they just couldn’t kill the bastards. She’d failed, that was for certain, so many years as a human forced her to gain some empathy and she’d gotten weak when it came time to kill the human.
Now, they had to rely on the bones of some old human to kill a demon and his mate? And who knew if they could recall the soul back from the dead. Human magic was vastly different from her races’ abilities and now that they’d found a spell proven to call back a human soul from the underworld it was too much of a hassle to challenge the powers that be. In fact as she entered her observation room, the girl began looking over the regeneration levels.
Tapping the keyboard she changed the camera angle and looked down at the circle. It was glowing brightly as the liquid slowly sunk into the bones and slowly began to force the skin to grow. Slamming her coffee down, the demon girl checked the vitals and saw that everything was going according to plan. The hair was beginning to grow again and spots of muscle and vein were showing on the bits of bone that were fully regrown. Now all that remained was for the skeleton to regrow and when her brother and his foolish mate arrived they’d take their claim back to their leader.
She looked at the brown liquid and caused the mug to shatter with just a glance, drenching her desk in coffee. Hissing she cleaned up the mess, and marked down that days regeneration process when she noticed someone in the tank room. Growling at the audacity of someone to encroach on her territory, the girl ran down the stairs shouting, “IF you value any part of your body, you’d get the fuck out of my lab!”
Taking off his glasses the intruder held up biohazard container saying, “Just hold on a moment their sister, I have the ‘sample.’” Lowering her claws, the demon girl snatched the sample and gave it a small sniff before her brother said, “Yeah, no need to thank me. I just had to scoop up bits of dirt and identify which fluids belonged to that bastard.” Sighing as he lit a cigarette, the demon male gazed at the skeleton in the giant tube. Exhaling he said loudly, “Looks like a god damn Bacta tank.”
Ignoring her brother, the female headed over to the machine and inserted the container. Typing in a series of buttons a mechanical voice said, “Sample confirmed as one hundred percent match to the demon known as Sesshomaru. Downloading components and storing for appropriate introduction to regeneration process.” The demoness watched carefully as the machine showed a computerized form of the DNA extraction.
Once it was stored into the cooling chamber, she snatched the cigarette from her brother and put it out. Curling a lip he reached for another one as she said, “This area is off limits to you. So how did you get in if I didn’t open the door?” Keeping quiet as his demon eyes caught the subtle cellular movements, the demon just held up a card holding all her information on it. Snorting the girl said, “Very nice, brother. Of course, you spent years trying to bed him and keep him from meeting that bastard, but you gave it up for some man with a big crotch?”
Stamping out part of his cigarette, the male demon put the remainder into his pack saying, “Well at least I would have put up a fight and not conceived a child.” Smiling he pinched his little sisters cheek as he dropped his concealment spell to reveal his feline form. When she slapped his hand-turned claw away, the male said, “And you had ample time to kill him that one night, but your empathetic side got the better of you. Soft-hearted woman.”
Smirking happily, the girl typed in a few keys before adding in one more symbol to the circle. Wiping her hands off with a towellette, the girl brushed her hair away saying, “Who’d’ have thought that the human that caused all these problems was from this era. Although you’d think we could have just killed him all those times before now since we’ve known what he looks like for more than five centuries. And using this bastard must be some weird revenge tactic from our lord.” Wiping away some of the dampness on the glass, the girl looked to her brother and asked, “Do you know anything about this person?”
Staring into the tank, the demon male whispered, “I know that he caused many problems for Sesshomaru and his brother. But why this one is something I’ll never understand. I always thought his lover would have been a much better choice, and easier on the eyes.” He’d heard tales of this one, that this human was beautiful. But how the person had gained such beauty, he did not know. He’d preferred Seiya and loved to torment the boy after he’d been caught. For one thing he’d only been with him because he was certain he could turn the boy into his puppet.
“Who knew that he’d be so adamant about remaining a virgin.” He knew that he’d said this out loud and went back to saying, “The human was definitely strong and annoyed Sesshomaru a great deal. Especially after taking that girl Rin. I don’t know how he died but it was probably torture if Sesshomaru had anything to do with it.”
Walking away from her brother the demoness began to leave the room when another voice asked, “Honestly you think the brat would give us a proper thank you or at least wonder why it took a such a long time to bring it back.” When a light click of a boot hit the ground, the girl looked back to see another male fling his arm over her brothers shoulder and kiss his cheek before loudly saying, “You have such a prude for a sister, love. Do ya think we could find a nice gent to at least giver her an hour of his time?”
As her brother choked back his mate’s comments, the demoness charged at her in-law planted her fist in the British demons chest. When the initial blow was landed, the brother stepped out of the way to watch the usual cat fight that was the basis of these two beings relationship. His sister extended her claws and lashed out, slicing his mate’s entire face. The demon male staggered back and shot blast of fire from his own mouth, burning his opponents hair to a crisp.
They were about to continue when a voice hissed, “That’s enough!” The two stopped their battle and turned to the voice and joined the non-combatant in kneeling. Limping out of the shadows a giant cougar demon, standing nearly ten feet thundered toward them. Running a giant claw against the glass, he smiled at the scent of blood that poured from the centuries old corpse. Licking his lips, the cougar scratched in the name of his new toy before turning to his followers.
Setting his giant staff on the ground, the cougar growled, “I know you have your misgivings about using this human beast. I also know that we could deal with this problem easily. But, we’ve helped nearly wipe out entire races before, along with nearly killing most of that bastards allies.” He smiled remembering their last kill. An entire family of some three hundred panther demons and their half-breed brats and the humans that were part of their family. The meat had been delicious, young human meat mixed with a panther blood sauce was one of the most delicious meals he’d had in years.
Wiping a bit of drool from his mouth, the panther tapped his staff against the magic circle forcing it to glow brightly with demonic and human magic. The corpse jerked slightly from the energies filling it’s decayed form. Looking over to his female follower, the cougar smiled saying, “Your old master would be proud of you.” He could see that she was truly happy to be acknowledged for her work, sine it was she who’d created the technology that was being used to revive this “demon.” Stroking her cheek, he lifted her face and asked, “You will be responsible for keeping it under control. Mixing his power with that dogs is a dangerous idea and I trust you to train and break this new toy of ours.”
Beaming at her new master, the girl stood up and bowed saying, “I won’t fail you. We’ve already found it’s weapon and are in the middle of creating a new one since it is completely rusted after five hundred years of laying in the dirt. Also we’re creating some new armor that will protect him from that ogre blade Sesshomaru carries. However, his brother Inuyasha and his mate may prove a problem since we know what happens when Sesshomaru bears children.”
The cougar remembered back at the stories he’d heard of the power gained by the demons human mate. Judging from what he’d heard, the demonic aura that flowed out of the human was equivalent to that of one of his strongest servants. Problem was that if he’d gained any sort of skill, or became proficient in using it he could become a real problem if anything like that happened when the plan went into effect.
Turning back toward the tube, the cougar lord scratched in a few more symbols before heading to the doorway. Standing in it he looked to his servants as he growled, “Keep a close eye on these two. I’ve had word reach me that one of our operatives failed in eliminating those two fools, as I knew would happen. So you three had better get to work on forcing this human monstrosity into becoming a worthy opponent for this demon. Not to mention a name to be feared among those that sided with these bastards.”
The three demons bowed at their lord and when he exited, the girl went back to checking the vitals on her creation. Following his master out of the door, the scientists brother waved to his sister and excused himself for a well-deserved rest. The brother’s mate spat at his sister-in-law and followed his mate out hoping that he didn’t get too much rest while the corpse inside the regeneration liquid somehow took in part of it’s surroundings and despised everything it had “heard.”
Kagome
Meanwhile in one of the busiest metropolitan areas of Japan, Kagome was in the middle of tying on her nurses shoes as her shift was about to start. She’d been working as much as possible lately, and even though she was given every weekend off, she was still pooped out on a daily basis. Being the newest, and not to mention youngest, RN in the hospital had it’s perks. She was allowed to help in major surgeries, along with doing basic ER duties and other typical nurse jobs, which included the dreaded sponge bathing old people and changing bedpans. But other than those to disgusting jobs she liked it her job.
Putting on her over shirt, Kagome clocked in few minutes early and bought a soda. They were out of her favorite kind so she settled for a root beer. Sitting down in a seat she watched some of the news and just as something for a hit and run accident came on a doctor barged in saying, “Higurashi, I have three people that need stitching up and I’m due for a meeting soon.” Getting up the nurse said that he owed her for taking over for him the second time that week. He knew that it meant buying her a somewhat decent lunch from a nice take out place and handing her the money he rushed off to his meeting while she grabbed the charts for curtains four, seven, and nine.
Reaching the first one she saw that it was a little boy who’d fallen on some broken glass and ended up with a few sizeable chunks in his hand. Introducing herself to his parents and settling into a chair. Kagome looked over the chart and said to the boy, “It’s going to be a bit uncomfortable when I pull these out, but this medicine will keep it from hurting.” Looking at a tiny needle the boy sniffled loudly as she stuck it into an uninjured part of his hand.
He screamed a bit, but Kagome smiled after pulling it out saying, “There we go. I’ve had this done before and it’s not a great feeling so don’t be mad at me. But in a second your hand will go numb and after that I’ll clean your wound and pull out the glass and stitch you up.” Winking at the boy she whispered, “If I hadn’t numbed your hand, the alcohol would hurt a lot worse than the glass”
Crying heavily, the boy nodded and asked, “Will my hand be okay for baseball this week?” Writing down something on the chart, Kagome smiled sadly and told him that it would be a little while before he could play again since if he played the stitches would rip and he’d have to come back and get them resewn.
Pouting the boy stared at his hand until it went a bit limp from the anesthetic taking effect. When he mentioned he couldn’t feel his hand, Kagome asked for a suture kit. As she grabbed the tweezers and pulled out one of the smaller chunks Kagome asked if his medication was up to date. When his parents mentioned that he’d just recently had all his vaccines for school and sports, Kagome stopped her work and took a look at the chart and noticed that it was already marked. Going back to her work with an embarrassed smile.
When she’d finished pulling out the glass, she sanitized the wounds and finished stitching up the poor kids hand. When she wrapped it up, Kagome gave him over to an orderly and headed out to do her other rounds. The other curtains weren’t that serious, a minor knife wound and the other was more for a bad cough and not stitches. When she turned in her charts, Kagome marked off her patients and headed to find another chart to fill out when a doctor asked, “Have you ridden in the meat wagon yet?”
Continuing to read her chart, Kagome shook her head saying, “I haven’t had the pleasure yet. I’ve been to busy helping in surgeries and taking care of patients.” Smiling the doctor set down his chart and mentioned that one of the new EMT interns had to go to a funeral and a couple of the EMTs were ready to take her out that instant. Cocking an eyebrow she asked, “What’s so special about right now? Does it have to do with that car accident I just saw on the news a while back?”
When the doctor confirmed her suspicion Kagome headed out shouting, “You know this is why people hate us sometimes. We can’t get anybody to a scene quick enough!” Rushing out the door she saw Jackie, an old friend of hers from college waving at her from the back of the ambulance with an EMT jacket in hand. Grabbing it Kagome said, “Let’s hurry this up. Who else is on the scene and what is it?”
When her friend closed the door, the female EMT said, “Well, we didn’t get the call until about five minutes ago. The accident is about twenty minutes from here. From what we know, it was a hit and run on done by a 1994 Sedan. The perp was a brand new, and apparently armored Toyota pick up. Victims are a male, early twenties about six foot three and weighing about two hundred and thirty pounds. He was on the drivers side and received the least amount of injuries.”
Checking her chart, the female EMT said, “He’s suffering from what appears to be a few broken ribs, a broken wrist on the right arm, dislocated shoulder and a slightly collapsed lung. The EMTs on sight are able to keep him breathing, but the problem is due to budget cuts they could only spare the one ambulance and due to the other victim. Most of their resources are going to keep her alive. We’re to take both victims to our hospital for treatment, and get ready, an emergency C-section.”
Looking out the window, Kagome scratched her chin asking, “What’s the problem with this one? Is the baby okay and is the mother alive?” Looking up from her chart, Jackie was surprised that her friend was handling this so cooly. Most nurses are a nervous wreck on their first few times, but for some reason it seemed like Kagome had dealt with worse situations than this. After a minute of not answering, Kagome asked, “What is up with the mother? How bad is she and will the baby live?”
Flipping through her book, Jackie looked down the list saying, “Mother is obviously a female. Mid-twenties as well, long white hair, and purple markings on face in the shapes of slashes on the cheeks and a crescent moon on the head. Injuries include fully collapsed lung, punctured by a rib, at least ten broken ribs, head injury, fractured shoulder and glass in and around the abdominal area.”
Glaring out the window, Kagome said, “Excuse me, but can you repeat what that second victim looks like?” Repeating the look of the mother, Kagome asked her friend, “Are you sure that it’s a female.” When her friend scoffed at it, Jackie said that it was a woman, but after checking over the chart, Jackie mentioned something about it being wrong. Grabbing the chart, Kagome looked down and saw that it said pregnant but other than that nothing was really marked.
Looking at her friend, Jackie realized there may have been more to this story than the others had let on. Feeling the car jerk to a stop, Jackie and Kagome grabbed a stretcher while the guy grabbed a bunch of supplies and rushed to the scene where Kagome stopped at the sight she saw. The first was Seiya laying on the ground not moving with dried blood on his face and looking in extreme pain. The next was a sight she never thought she’d see in the years she had ahead of her.
Unconscious with a stomach and face covered in blood lay Sesshomaru Mizutani, the Lord of the West. How it was possible for him to become so injured from a car was a bit difficult for Kagome to comprehend. The Kaze no Kizu was understandable as it was a blast of demonic power, but for a car to do that it must have been going incredibly fast. Looking over to the car she saw that the entire passengers side was destroyed.
Looking down she saw the others using a portable sonogram to check on the baby while another kept on manually feeding air into his lungs while another EMT made sure that his lung was pushing out any excess air. Stepping toward Seiya, Kagome helped her best friend onto a stretcher and put into the back of an ambulance. All of this of course was done after doing a portable X-ray on his chest and lungs finding nothing too serious. But some surgery would be required and with the force of the impact he was suffering from some neck and head wounds, the effects of those were yet to be known.
When Seiya was breathing on his own and ready to go, Kagome headed over to the body of her husbands brother and asked, “How’s the baby doing?” One of the senior EMTs asked why it was any of her concern, maddened at being treated so unfairly because she was a nurse, Kagome growled, “This baby is my niece you bastard and if you don’t tell me how she is I’ll be sure her uncle and father deal with you personally.”
Not afraid of the threat, but unsure of what to make of it, the EMT aimed the screen at her saying, “The baby is fine for now, but unless you get out of the way and let us get them to the hospital, she and her mother may die.” The subtle emphasis on the word mother let Kagome know that they were only doing this for securities sake. As what happens a lot of times in careers, such as medicine, you see things that let you know to keep your mouth shut. Not to mention that they were now under the legal obligation to keep the patients medical history a secret.
Kagome helped them move Sesshomaru onto the gurney and into the back of the second ambulance. Looking to the other one, Kagome apologized to Seiya for not riding and asked if she could ride with Sesshomaru. When she was allowed, Kagome went to work on keeping air flowing into and out of the demon’s lungs while the others attempted to remove some of the glass.
She watched in horror as they pulled out a few of the larger and less threatening parts. Kagome was surprised to see the steady hand the man and woman had as they sped through the streets. There were times when she thought they’d drive the more dangerous ones in. But the people were veterans and they reassured her with their talents at keeping him alive. One thing that worried the nurse was the fact that Sesshomaru’s wounds weren’t closing.
The wounds must be much deeper than they look. It’s either that or Sesshomaru’s body can’t due it because of it needing the energy to keep the baby alive. As they reached the hospital the two EMTs packed the wounds with gauze and hustled into the OR prepped for delivery while Seiya was sent to another one for his own injuries. About to follow Sesshomaru, Kagome was stopped by a doctor saying, “Higurashi can you tell me anything of the mother’s medical history during the past seven months?”
Shaking her head slightly, Kagome said, “The only person who knows would be the man who was with him and his cousin Sakura Mizutani. As far as I know she was the obstetrician for the baby for the first few months and there’s someone else who lives too far away to contact quickly.” Writing the name down, the doctor headed to a phone and dialed the number while Kagome waited to see what would happen to Sesshomaru. But before she did that she had to make a few calls and then check on Seiya.
Sara
Sara had just arrived at the office where she did most of her regular appointments. Today she had four check ups and five tests to run. Then after that if her calculations were correct, it was off to the hospital to help a mother bring her second child into the world. Walking in the door she said hello to her first few appointments and lead the first two back. One was a basic pregnancy test, while the other was a mother who was six months along and there with her sister due to her husband being in the military.
After changing into her jacket and getting her charts, Sara made her way into the exam room and began her job. The check up went as planned, save for an odd obstruction she saw in the screen, which later revealed that the couple was going to be having twins. After that she took care of them next it was two pregnancy tests that as usual she had to be extremely careful with. One of Sara’s friends had accidentally gotten the tests mixed up and luckily the poor guy hadn’t been sued for medical negligence.
While she was taking care of a patients worries on proper diet and if she was going to be a good mother, Sara had to turn off an interesting report on a hit and run. She knew that one of the passengers was pregnant, other than that she didn’t know anything about who had been hurt and was hoping it wasn’t one of her patients. The problem was she only had to wait a couple of more seconds to hear her cousins name be read over the news. Turning it off she said, “I understand that it’s your first child and you’re scared. But that doesn’t mean you have to come in every couple of hours. Just calm down and take a couple of days off to calm down. Okay?”
When the patient said that she’d do as she was asked. Sara said goodbye and went out to check up on the tests. Entering the small lab she had for such tests, one test yielded positive results while the other left another couple sad and going back to the drawing board. Taking the charts, Sara headed into the room with the pregnant couple. Sitting down Sara said happily, “Well you are about four weeks pregnant and are doing quite well. I take it once you suspected you started typical prenatal care?”
The lady responded that she was always a good eater and took care of herself so the change wasn’t that drastic. She cut down on the junk food she occasionally indulged in and got rid of the wine that she had on occasion. Settling down, Sara explained a lot of the things that are going to happen. The couple already knew, but she thought a small introductory course would be a good idea to confirm their knowledge on proper nutrition and fitness.
After leaving that couple, she had to break the bad news about another couple not being pregnant. They’d already had the tests, and save for a slightly low sperm count on the husbands part, they were healthy adults and save for some extra effort on both their parts, she assured that they should be pregnant with no problem. Wiping a couple of tears from her eyes, and the husband kissing her telling her it would be okay. After making an appointment for them in a month, just in case, Sara took a short coffee break and was about to start on some paper work when the phone rang.
Snatching it up, Sara asked in sharp voice, “What is it?” After stuttering about being a doctor at the local hospital. Sara apologized and said that she had a couple of tough patients to deal with and was tired after a weekend of deliveries. Waving it aside, the doctor said that he was contacting her because Kagome Higurashi had mentioned that she was the doctor of a person with some connection to her.
Shifting the receiver nervously, Sara asked, “Does this have something to do with that car accident on the news this morning? The hit and run?” Mentioning that the two victims were in the hospital, and that the father was in the middle of surgery as they talked the OBGYN asked, “Who are the victims?” Looking through the charts the doctor said the names that she knew were going to slip from his oily mouth.
“The patients are Seiya and Sesshomaru Mizutani. Seiya is in surgery for wrist, shoulder, and hip problem. He is also suffering from minor head and neck trauma and is suspected to be out of it for a while.” When hearing the pause the man said, “And oddly enough his ‘wife’,” Sara caught the slight stress and knowing the delicate situation she knew it was well placed.
After saying the word, the doctor said, “The mother is suffering from more serious head and neck injuries. She may be out for a few days longer, not to mention a collapsed lung, some broken ribs, dislocated shoulder and fractured collar bone.” Sara began stuttering about why they weren’t helping him when the doctor said, “She also has large shards of glass embedded in the area housing the child. The only problem is how do we handle this situation since we haven’t had anything like this happen.”
Wiping her tears away, Sara stood up and began gathering her things saying, “Have Higurashi in that operating room and make sure that she is the only one to touch that baby. It is of the highest priority that she is the only one to check up on the baby, understand?” The doctor mentioned that he would tell the surgeons and said that the family was being contacted at that moment. Thanking him briefly, Sara said, “Make sure you also contact my brother Bishop Joseph Mizutani. I have the number where he is right now.” Giving him the number of Jessy’s hotel in Ireland, Sara rushed out the door and told them to call in her replacement due to family emergency and headed toward the hospital hoping that she wouldn’t have to break the news.
Jessy
Jessy was sitting in a small Ireland hotel room staring out at the rising sun. He’d been in town for a couple of weeks and there was a good reason. Sipping at his juice, he felt some soft arms circle around his waist as a soft voice said, “Well you’re up early after one of our dates.” Smiling he turned around and gave the woman a kiss on the lips. Kissing back she asked, “What is the matter? Are you called back to work?”
Setting his glass down, Jessy said, “Not yet love. Things are going pretty smooth right now so I don’t have to do anything. Just a bad feeling for some reason.” She led him back into the room and set him onto a chair and began rubbing his shoulders. Laughing at the attention he groaned as she loosened a knot saying, “Only a couple of more years of this life and I’m going to leave. If you’ll still have some sort of blood stained freak of nature.” He felt a sharp slap on his head shouting, “What the hell was that for?”
Settling into his lap the girl said, “I’m still going to have you. Even though you’re a priest, I’m glad I met you. It was a bit weird to learn about what you do, but you do it because you see it as something that needs to be done.” She held his hands and said, “I can’t see the blood that has stained your hands, and although it’s there I’ve come to terms with it and pay it no mind.”
Kissing her hands he muttered, “I love you Penny.” Smiling she said the same to him and headed off to shower so they could go walking around the town. When she’d left, Jessy rubbed his eyes and remembered to what had happened a few weeks ago in Germany. It was just after a mission that had gone to crap. He’d been spotted and was now a wanted man in Romania for murder, meaning it’d have to be passed on to another one of his colleagues.
Settling back in his seat at a small café, he waited for his boss to arrive. He’d fucked up on the job plain and simple and was expected to get his ass chewed out for doing such a thing. When he set down his bottled water, Jessy saw his boss sitting in front of him with a bemused look on his face. Swirling the liquid, Jessy gave him a smile saying, “Well what is it this time? Lack of stealth or the fact that you had to go and hush up what I’ve done?”
The man did his typical hand curling and smiled saying, “It’s not necessarily that Joseph. You got caught and we’ve had some of our bests end up dead from screwing up, so what you’ve done isn’t that big a deal.” Wiping his glasses the man said, “What is getting to me is that you had ample time for at least a total of three months to destroy a powerful demon lord and gain even more of our lord’s favor. Yet you married him to that damned cousin of yours and allow him to live. Tell me why?”
Setting his glass down, Jessy leaned forward saying, “First off because I love my cousin. Second of all his husband is an okay guy for a demon. And thirdly, it’s no business of yours what I do in my private along with the fact that they’re going got have a child soon and the kid hasn’t done anything wrong so it’s pure and should not be harmed.”
The man just took of his glasses saying as he shoved them into his pocket, “Don’t let it happen again. We’ll allow some amnesty, but let it be known that you and your little pet in Ireland are under surveillance. You’ve disgraced our church by marrying those freaks and now we’ll have another half breed to keep in line, and with their longevity, who knows how many more in the future.” Getting up the man left the priest to get his preparations ready to head to Ireland and protect his lover.
Penny was a fiery red headed girl from the town that he had visited one day under cover. He’d saved her life from one of his first assignments and they’d just become lovers the year before. Jessy knew everything about her past and he was lucky that nothing bad had happened before her demon problems. Too many times had he seen battered and abused humans and demons forced to lives that no one deserved to even have the slightest bit of knowledge about.
When he arrived, he found Penny coming home from her job at the town bank and led her to his hotel and warned her of what was going to happen if he did anything like what he’d done for his family in Toronto. The girl had held him for a while and shushed him with soft kisses and words. He’d stopped worrying after a little more than two hours and she decided to stay with him for the next few weeks. She was still in town and just had to hop on a bus and make a transfer to get to work so it wasn’t a problem to stay in the hotel. Save for the fact that she had to go and grab a few days worth of clothes and toilet items.
Those two weeks were spent with days apart and nights being unseparated, and on the weekends he took her to some of the larger towns around that were a couple hours drive away. He’d taken her to get a couple of new dresses and she’d bought him a new pair of pants and got lunch for that day while he covered dinner. Now it was the second Sunday he’d been there and even though he had obligations to the church, much like his fiancee, they decided since they were having a sinful relationship that God would forgive them for missing one day of sermon.
When he heard the water in the bathroom shut off, Jessy prepared his outfit before getting into the shower. He unplugged his phone and hid his laptop and PDA in his suitcase and locked it before grabbing some trashy clothes from his drawer and tossed them onto the bed covering his phone. As he was about to get into the bathroom the phone rang in, it’s non-personalized tone. Choosing to ignore it, he let it go to voice mail only to have it ring less than twelve seconds later. Heading over to it he snatched it up and asked, “Jessy here, what can I do for ya?”
Upon finishing his request, a doctors voice said that he was from a Japanese hospital and that his sister had told him to call and say that his cousin and wife had been in a serious accident. Turning into a board, Jessy asked quietly, “What’s going to happen to them?” The doctor sighed and began to explain that his cousin and wife were in the middle of surgery and that they had to remove the baby.
Nearly dropping the phone, Jessy caught himself and said, “I hope you know that only a family member is supposed to touch the baby, because you’ll end up without an arm if anyone else tries it.” The doctor explained that it was being taken care of, but he wanted to know why he was to be the one to call instead of Seiya’s father. Smirking the priest said, “Just keep them alive and you’ll in a couple of hours, now please contact my uncle and the Higurashi’s.”“ The doctor tried to ask what he meant by the time, but Jessy had hung up and began to pack.
When Penny came out dressed back up in her night gown she began to pout saying, “I thought you didn’t have to leave for another four days?” A few moments of silence caused the woman to grab her lovers hand and ask, “You have another four days here, so why the hell are you packing now? You said that you weren’t going on any missions so why the sudden change?”
Jerking his hand away, Jessy zipped up his bag and threw his pants on saying, “My cousin and husband were in a hit and run accident and they don’t know if Sesshomaru or the baby are going to make it. And if Sesshomaru dies, so does Seiya. And if they live they’ll be the prime targets of an attack in that weakened state.” Buttoning his khakis, Jessy kissed the girl as he said, “They need protection that only I and a few friends can give.”
Wiping away a tear, the Irish girl softly whispered, “I understand what you’re saying. You said that family always came first, and you’ve given up them for me on a fair number of occasions.’ Looking up she smiled saying, “And this is a life or death situation so you go and make sure that they live so I can meet them and that adorable child.”
Throwing on his shirt and kissing her goodbye, Jessy pulled his shoes on as he raced down the hallway and to his rental car as he dialed a number. Once in the driver’s seat, the owner picked up and asked what he wanted. Smirking he said, “Seriously Morgan, you’d think that an old friend with a decent paying job would get a bit more respect.” Muttering something about a hang over, Jessy snorted a laugh as he said, “Get on the next plane to Japan and head to this address.” Making sure his friend had it down correctly, Jessy was pelted with questions about what the job was.
Taking a sharp turn before once again accelerating toward the airport the priest said, “Body guard detail on two individuals. Names are Seiya and Sesshomaru Mizutani. I’ll tell you more when I see you.” He hung up before his friend could even pester him for the tiny details of his assignment. Tiem was of the essence and Jessy needed as much as he could possibly get.
The rest of the group
He hated working on sundays, but it had to be done. This past week he had secured a couple of possible clients, and now he was stuck doing the brunt of the work because his go to guy was in surgery. Pulling up the chart he added in the newly calculated figures and saved them before shutting off the computer and heading to meet up with Michelle and Yari.
His son had grown tremendously and at a little over nine months old he began to grunt and crawl around. The childs was a handful and was always trying get into anything within reach. Luckily the dogs had a tendency to pull him away from the cupboard by his diaper. Which was the main reason Robert thought the child did it, because every time his was drug away he was screaming with laughter.
They were also supposed to meet up with Seiya and Sesshomaru later on that day for a visit. Luckily it was going to be at Souta’s party since Sesshomaru could hide in another part of the house away from Kagome’s grandfather. It was odd that the old man hadn’t made his presence known lately since Robert loved talking to get the priests view point on certain things. He also knew that Inuyasha, Miroku, and Sango were to be their with Sangos son who was now a little over a year old and luckily took after his mother, or so they hoped.
Packing up his lap top and shutting off his radio about an accident, it was nowhere near the way he had to go. Locking up his office, Robert made his way down the building that he ran and pulled out of the garage into the early afternoon sun. Rolling down the windows he reveled in the calm that he was feeling. Save for the fact that he didn’t know what present Michelle had bought for Souta, Robert was excited to see his son and son-in-law.
Sesshomaru hadn’t been seen by anyone for awhile because of a fear of them being attacked. Robert could see no harm in keeping the demon lord in hiding, especially if the demon wanted it, and so long as his granddaughter was born healthy he didn’t care what they did. Turning onto a side street, Robert took a short cut to the restaurant and pulled into the parking lot where he saw that Michelle had already grabbed an outside table.
Hopping over the fence, Robert scooped his son out of his chair and kissed him before kissing his wife. They had eloped shortly after Yari’s birth and everyone knew, they just never spoke of it. Sitting in a chair, he began to lightly tickle the infant, of which he received a very high laugh from his son before asking, “Well I hope you’re going to tell me what you got Souta because I don’t want to look like an idiot when we get there.”
Holding up the gift, Michelle pulled it out of it’s bag and showed a few books and a couple of X-box games saying, “Just the things he wanted the most. Asami made sure that I was the only one to purchase them. And this,” she held up a clay item, “is from Yari.” Asking how his child knew it was Souta’s birthday, Michelle laughed saying, “He pointed at Souta’s picture yesterday and pointed back at this. I don’t think he knows it’s his birthday, he just wanted to give Souta something.”
Kissing his overly intelligent sons head, Robert ordered a couple of drinks before feeding the child. Holding the bottle happily from his seat, Yari watched his parents eat and even tried to steal some of his mother’s pasta. Using her plate, Michelle gave him a couple of bits and he went to eating it in a fever. Of course by the end of it, Yari’s face was covered in tomato sauce.
Cleaning the child up, Michelle waited for the check to get back before asking her husband, “Do you want to take him with you?” Taking the baby, Robert exited with them and once he moved the car seat into his car, he strapped the baby in and kissed his wife before pulling out after her and made their way to the Higurashi Shrine.
On the other side of the well that day, Inuyasha was sitting on the top of it growling at the fact it was taking so long for his friends to arrive. Not only that but he was forced to sit with the little toad his brother kept around for some god forsaken reason. Scratching his ears, Inuyasha laughed as the little toad shouted, “You filthy half breed! How dare you soil my pure blooded body with your disgusting hair.”
Smirking and raising his claws, Inuyasha aimed at the toads body saying, “Just wait until my claws sink into your skin you little bastard!” Raising the Staff of Heads, Jaken shot a blast of fire at his master’s brother and laughed as Inuyasha jumped back, snarling as he stamped out his burning hair shouting, “You’re going to die you little toad!” Rushing forward, Inuyasha dodged the next few blasts and smacked the staff away and pinned the kappa to the ground.
He was just about to slice down when Miroku’s voice echoed, “I don’t think that would be wise Inuyasha since he has to get back to the castle.” Looking over his shoulder, Inuyasha saw Koura and Kara standing in the shadow of the woods. When he saw two of the Devas, Jaken got up and ran towards them snickering a bit before Koura kicked the demon and told him to go and get Ah-Un back to the castle.
Glad to see that the demon was getting what he deserved, Inuyasha went to them and bowed thanking them for getting rid of the toad. Waving it away, Koura pulled a package from her robe and gave it to the half-breed saying, “Lord Sesshomaru forgot to bring this with him for Souta. And this one is from myself and my siblings for the boy as well for his gall to challenge the dog.” Stuffing the packages into his houri, Inuyasha bowed and turned away jumped down into the well. Waving goodbye, Miroku jumped down and was followed shortly by Sango and the baby.
On the other side of the well, Rin was sitting in the old abandoned well house waiting for her Uncle to show. Since both her father’s were running late, she decided that instead of waiting for them she’d occupy herself with the rest of the family. Which was easy enough to do since she’d been helping Souta and Grandma Asami set up the party all morning.
Sipping at a soda she saw the familiar blue glow of the well and soon a tall silver haired figure standing in front of her with a smirk on his face. Waving happily she said, “Father and Papa haven’t shown up yet. But Grandpa called and said it was because of an accident near where we live and they should be along shortly.”
Patting the girls head, Inuyasha heard the clamoring of his two friends and godson as he headed up to the house asking about Shippou. Saying that he was in the living room with Souta and some of his friends, Rin ran up and asked Sango if she could hold the baby. Handing him to her, Sango said, “Did you give Souta his present?” Nodding, Rin headed into the house saying that there was food on the table and plenty people around to annoy them.
Inside the house though, Asami was in the middle of finishing frosting a cake while Inuyasha munched on a couple sweet buns. Hearing the sound of music fill the house, Asami showed the cake as she asked, “I hope you plan on taking some of that food out for the kids?” Stopping his incessant snacking, Inuyasha picked up a few plates and set them out in the living room before hurrying upstairs to change his clothes.
Continuing with her baking, a loud bark came from Tater as Souta and Rin led Asami to notice that Robert had shown up with Michelle and Yari. Heading out, she wiped her hands and kissed and hugged both parents before taking the baby and saying, “He’s beginning to look more like his mother than his father.” Saying that he was glad for that, Robert took a bottle of water from the ice chest and reached into Michelle’s bag tossing a couple of parcels to the young man.
Catching them, Souta put them in the pile saying, “Thanks Uncle Robert. Are you staying for the whole party?” Mentioning that it was in his schedule to hang around, Robert shook INuyasha and Mirkou’s hands before kissing Sango and mentioning how lovely she looked. A bit embarrassed the Taijiya said that if he did that again he’d be turning her son into his father.
Looking at the boy, he could see that he had a small obsession with Rin’s hair that he was either turning down the path of his father or he just liked to play with hair. Shrugging it off the man said, “I don’t think it’ll be that bad for him to compliment a woman for looking good. As long as his hand doesn’t go to her rear like somebody we know.”
Stopping his drinking of Coca-Cola and bourbon, Miroku said, “Honestly, after nearly four years of marriage you’d think that you wouldn’t have to worry about me having a wandering eye or hand.” He added the hand in because he’d gotten used to her comment on how his hands used to have minds of their own.
Smiling she blew him a kiss before taking her son away from Rin and heading to the bathroom to change him as Rin said, “Well I have two dads that adopted me since my real parents died.” The adults watched carefully as a girl said something about how it must be weird not having a mom around. Rin just plastered on her carefree smile and said, “I miss her, but I got two really great father’s and am going to have a little sister soon so I’m not alone. Plus I have a really big family and a boyfriend.”
Shippou spat out his soda and looked at her with a red face. He’d been hiding his fox attributes with a concealment spell but at that comment he’d nearly broken it. Laughing at his friend, Souta said, “Yeah this is him, her suave cute boyfriend. You’d think she’d find a guy who’d be proud of dating her instead of g3etting embarrassed about it.” Chasing after his friend for awhile, Shippou was soon stopped by Inuyasha’s foot being planted into the small of his back.
Growling from under the heavy foot, Shippou tried to bite it only to have Inuyasha say, “Calm down you little twerp and help us get ready.” Wiggling out, Shippou headed into the kitchen waiting for the signal to bring out the cake. When the time was right, Shippou came out teetering a cake in his short arms as he tried to stop the sixteen candles from burning his face and hair.
Setting down the cake, Shippou finished off the song by saying, “You’re still an asshole no matter how old ya get.” Laughing, SHippou gave his friend a hug and blew out the candles and sliced the cake. Taking his slice, Shippou snuck up behind his friend and slammed it down onto his friends head saying, “It’s good isn’t it?” The whole group laughed as Souta had cake and ice cream dripping down his face and neck. Grabbing his own slice, Souta slammed it into the foxes face. Wiping away some of the frosting Shippou said, “It is good. Thanks Asami-san.”
Nervously laughing about the fact that her cake had become the source of entertainment rather than nourishment, the woman said, “You’re very welcome Shippou, just next time eat it instead of putting it in my sons hair.” Laughing, Souta headed upstairs and showered quickly while Shippou washed his face in the kitchen before they returned to the living room to open presents.
Just as he ripped into Michelle’s present and thanked her a knock came from the front door. Rushing to it thinking it was her parent’s, Rin opened the door and said “Hi father...” When she trailed off the group knew that something was wrong. Heading over to the door, the adults noticed two police officers standing in the doorway. Pointing behind her, Rin said, “My Grandma Asami is right over there sir.”
Removing their hats and stepping in, the older of the two officers bowed and said, “I’m sorry to bother you on such a happy occasion, but I must speak with Robert and Michelle Mizutani if it’s not too much trouble.” Confused by what was going on Robert introduced himself and Michelle. Shaking his hand and bowing the officer asked, “If you’d be so kind, may we borrow your kitchen Mrs. Higurashi?”
“Of course it’s right this way officers.” Leading them into the kitchen, Asami poured them some drinks before settling down next to Michelle. The officer mentioned something about it being only his parent’s needing to hear it. That didn’t go over too well as Asami said, “That boy is my son in more ways than blood. I have cared for him since he was a child. Now please tell us what is the matter.”
Sipping his tea, the younger officer said, “It’s hard to tell you this, but your son and his wife were in an accident and rushed to the local hospital.” The faces of the three adults fell while Inuyasha, Miroku, and Sango all tried to keep the kids from hearing about the car accident. Noticing the dark mood filling the room. Pushing his cup away the officer said, “They were hit by an armored car which fled the scene after slamming them into an empty parked car in front of a book store close to where they live.”
Grabbing the cup, Robert threw it against the wall forcing both babies to cry as he said, “I knew about that accident. Son of a bitch!” Holding her husband Michelle whispered that he didn’t know it was Seiya or Sessh. Crying he said, “I heard about it on the radio. But I shut it off after hearing that it was hit because I thought they were waiting.”
Getting up from the table, the police officers excused themselves and told them where they could find Kagome at the hospital. Letting them out, Asami began telling the kids that they all had to leave. The group began to pout when Asami said, “I’m going to call your parents and tell them that it’s a family emergency and that we have to head to the hospital.” Agreeing to the woman, the kids sat solemnly while Asami picked up the phone and began making calls.
Getting up, Robert said, “Sango and Miroku you go with me. Michelle take Rin, Inuyasha and Shippou.” Looking to Souta the man said, “I’m sorry about this pal.” Giving him a sad look the teenager said that it wasn’t his fault and he’d be on the next train with his mom after his friends had left. Heading outside, Robert found Rin on the stairs crying at the news she’d heard. Hugging his granddaughter, Robert said, “They’ll live Rin, they have you and your sister to live for.”
Sobbing into his shirt the girl said through a mass of tears, “I don’t wanna lose them. I’ve already lost my family once and I don’t want to lose it again!” She let the man hug her and calm her until Michelle came and told her that they had to go. Wiping her tears away, Rin climbed into the front seat while Shippou and Yari were placed in the back. Once Robert and the others were in his car she said, “Grandma, my Father and Papa are going to live. I know this because I have a sister and they’re too strong to die.”
As she said this, both males jerked in their unconscious states as each doctor stood before them looking over them and told them about what was to be done in their respective surgeries. While one doctor placed a sheet over Sesshomaru’s upper body to operate on his chest and stomach, while another was beginning to work on Seiyas left shoulder. Both doctors were scared because of two reasons, but right now they just had to worry about making sure that the baby being carried by one of the patients would have both parents to go home with.
Next chapter will be an interesting one...peace!1
