Chapter 16
An: This seems to have gone a little better than the last chapter. We'll see. Sorry it's so short. Time consuming crap is sucking me dry…
It was a rush to the hospital.
Her mother was driving over the speed limit and Kagome held on for the ride. Running through the hospital halls, they got to his room in record time to find the boy sitting in bed. He looked up to Kagome first and smiled, then looked to his mother.
“Hey ladies.” The doctor said from behind them. They both turned, Souta watching from behind them. “He seems to be doing a lot better. The first question out of his mouth was `Where is my sister?' so I think you need to talk to him.” He smiled at them then motioned towards the door. Kagome was the first to take initiative.
Her hand slipped into Souta's as she reached the bed and she wrapped her other arm around him in a hug. “Hey.”
“Hi.” Souta smiled up at her as she stood. Their mother stood back against the wall watching the two. “How long was I out?”
“A long time.” Kagome answered, looking down. “Almost a year.”
Souta nodded, squeezing her hand. “Both of you need to go home and get some rest. You look dog tired. I'm not going back into that place so just go. It's okay.” His soft voice was a godsend to Kagome. She couldn't imagine what her mom was thinking.
“No, we'll stay a little longer. It's been awhile.” Her mother answered before she could.
They talked into the night and into the morning. Their mother fell asleep in the chair, but they kept talking. Kagome told him all about Inu. “I'm glad he got you to stop cutting yourself. Are things any better at home?”
Kagome shook her head. “It's been getting steadily worse.” No more was said on the subject, Souta changed it back to school stuff. When Kagome started yawning she decided that it was time to go home and woke her mother. Souta was watching smiling.
The older woman opened her eyes, looking around. “Time to go?”
“Yeah.” Kagome started for the door, her mother following her but leaving before her. Kagome turned back for a few seconds. “Bye baby brother.”
“Bye sister.” He let her turn back around before he said anything else. “Hey kagome.” She stuck her head back in the door. “I missed you too.”
She smiled at him, knowing he heard her earlier, and then nodded to him and left. Her mother was half way to the car and Kagome caught up quickly. Nothing was said. They got silently into the car and drove home, Kagome falling into a sleep in the car.

“Kagome no.” She woke up suddenly to the voice, grabbing the dashboard and inhaling quickly. She couldn't place the voice. Her mother swerved. Luckily there wasn't a car beside them.
“Are you okay?” She asked glancing at her daughter.
“I'm fine, I just had a weird dream. Sorry.” Her voice was soft, unheard of for Kagome.
“You know… You've changed a lot.”
“How so?”
“After meeting Inu, you became calmer, nicer almost. I like being around you now. I'm sorry about earlier, I didn't mean to give you a hard time I just… Don't want you hurt you know?” She shrugged, glancing at Kagome again. The sun was coming over the horizon.
“Yeah I know.”
“I have a bad feeling something is coming that's going to hurt you more than anything ever has. I don't want you to be afraid to come to me. I love you baby.”
“Me too mom.” Kagome smiled.
