InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Her Fortitude ❯ memories ( Chapter 4 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Chapter 4 (Is that right?) is now here. The beginning will start off with a flashback, just to warn you. I really didn't feel like continuing due to lack of reviews, but because of those who did review, I will continue for them. In case this chapter gets typos or errors or something, it is mainly due to the fact that I stayed up all night just to finished the last 150 pages of harry potter, which was very good bye the way. I'll just use ****** to mean flashback. The 2nd line means end flashback, ok? And ^^^^^^^^ means a flashback within a flashback. Sorry if you're confused. Now onto the story! ^_^

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha. But I do own Hayden.

CHAPTER 4

*********************************************

A final scream broke out in the village. A young woman in her hut lay panting her hut where she had just been through 4 hours of labor. Her black hair was spread around her, some of it sticking to the sides of her face due to sweat. She smiled as she heard the crying of an infant. The midwife wrapped her and handed her to Kikyo, trying not to show a look of disgust on her face at handling a hanyou, a bastard hanyou at that.

Five months ago, Kikyo had gone to a nearby village to help care for the wounded after a battle. She had brought the Shikon no Tama with her as to not put her own village in danger while she was away. When she had returned 4 months ago, everyone noticed right away that she was pregnant. She had only said she was `attacked' by a demon on her way there. Everyone did their best to ignore it, but to them it was almost a curse to have a bastard hanyou in their village. But since they loved and respected Kikyo, they also respected her decision to keep the child.

Inuyasha stood, waiting at the edge of the forest, but careful not to be seen as he heard Kikyo's final cried. He longed to be by her side to see his first child being born, but he would just get attacked by the other villagers like he always did when he came near enough. He nearly growled at the thought.

He remembered when he had first seen Kikyo's sad smile 5 months ago. Shortly after, she had been called away to a nearby village. He had followed her at a distance, making sure she was safe. The journey would take at least 3 days and on the 2nd day, he decided to let her know he was there.

"I knew you were there all along Inuyasha."

"Feh, " was his reply.

Both smiled to themselves. They were in love with each other, yet neither knew how the other felt. It was late afternoon and both decided to take a break. They had stopped by a nearby river and just sat on the grass.

"Me become human?" Inuyasha asked after Kikyo had asked him a serious question.

"It's possible. It's true that you are half demon, but you are also half human. If you used the jewel to become human, it would be purified. The jewel would then probably cease to exist."

Inuyasha thought about this and then asked slowly,"And then what? What would happen to you?"

Inside, Kikyo seemed almost surprised at Inuyasha's question, but didn't show it. What she did want to happen was for them to live together as husband and wife, but she didn't even know how he felt about her, even if they weren't enemies anymore. So instead she gave him the half the truth. "My duty is to protect the jewel. Without it, I could live the life of an ordinary woman."

`But without you, I still won't be happy,' she thought sadly.

Inuyasha could hear the happiness in Kikyo's voice, and yet he also thought it sounded sad. He needed time to decide. He had wanted to become full demon, but now Kikyo was asking him to become human. He loved her and would do it to make her happy, yet where would that leave him? He had never loved anyone so much in his whole life.

Kikyo thought that maybe he needed time to decide, so changing the subject she said,"Inuyasha, maybe we should start going." Then she started walking toward the river where they had to cross to get to the village. There by the dock was a gondola-like boat waiting.

Kikyo stepped in and waited for Inuyasha to come. He stood up and came over and grabbed the stick to push off with. They floated mostly in silence, not knowing what to say. Soon, they reached the other side. Inuyasha stepped out first and waited for Kikyo.

Kikyo carefully stepped out of the boat with her bow and arrows by her side. On the way she seemed to have tripped on the hem of her pants (A/N: Sorry, don't know what it's called) and into Inuyasha chest. He barely had even moved.

Kikyo slowly lifted her head, slightly embarrassed, and look at Inuyasha. Inuyasha just stared deeply into her eyes. Then, all of a sudden, Inuyasha dropped his stick and embraced Kikyo. Kikyo did not know what to do as this came as a shock to her.

Inuyasha took a deep breath. `I have to tell her,' he thought. `It's now or never.' While still holding Kikyo, he bent down and whispered in her ear. "I love you Kikyo."

Kikyo was in even more shock, especially now that she realized that Inuyasha did love her and now she could be completely happy. Inuyasha was fearing what she might think of him now, until he heard her arrows drop and she hugged him back, with a single tear falling on her face.

"What's wrong?" said Inuyasha, not knowing what she was doing.

"Inuyasha?" she whispered in his chest. "I….. I love you too."

Inuyasha just stood there still holding Kikyo. Had she really said that she loved him? Yes, she did. He knew his ears had heard right. She loved him as well. Inuyasha lifted Kikyo by the chin gently with his forefinger and thumb. They looked deep into each other's eyes, not looking away for fear that this moment was nothing but a dream.

As their faces were just millimeters apart, Kikyo closed her eyes and gently felt his lips brush over hers. Kikyo never wanted this moment to end. They drew away to breath before locking lips again. She grew slightly bold and parted her mouth to run her tongue where his lips me. Inuyasha willingly open his mouth and plunged his tongue into her mouth, searching everywhere inside. Then he pulled away after a while so she could breath.

After regaining their breaths, Inuyasha stared down at Kikyo. She looked flushed and so unlike the stable priestess he had always known. To him, that made her even more beautiful. `I've made up my mind. I can now live with Kikyo as a human.' He decided to wait till later to tell her. He just wanted to stand here holding her forever.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ (End flashback in a flashback)

Inuyasha still stood at the edge of the forest waiting. He remembered how he had confessed his love for her. He also remembered how one thing had led to another after they had settled in for the night in the forest. That's why 5 months later, he was now a father. Because he was part demon, it had been a quick pregnancy.

He looked down as he saw a figure emerge from Kikyo's hut after a while. It must have been the midwife. As much as he wanted to, he knew he still couldn't go down and see them, but he would stand here all night just to be as close as he could be.

It was late into the night now and Inuyasha just sat there, alert and wide awake. A little while later, he saw another figure emerge form the hut, carrying a bundle. The figure seemed to be moving slowly and slyly as if trying not to get caught. ? Then, the figure seemed to be heading towards him.

It was Kaede. And she was carrying the baby. She was the only one who knew who the father was. Kikyo must have sensed him and told her to bring the baby to him. By the sounds of it, the baby appeared to be asleep.

"Hey brat," Inuyasha said as she came nearer.

"Hello to you to Inuyasha. Would you like to hold her now?"

"Her?"

"Uhuh, it's a girl. Her you go. "

Carefully she handed the baby over to Inuyasha, who took her as if she were made of glass. Kaede giggled at how nervous he seemed."It's ok, Inuyasha. Just put your hand under her head and you'll be fine."

Inuyasha slowly sat on the ground as he looked at his first daughter. She was so perfect. He pushed back the blanket more to see her face. She had black hair and ears just like him, which were also black.

"What color are her eyes?" he asked.

Kaede looked up at him. "They're yellow, like yours," she said with a smile.

"Wow," he breathed. Too bad he couldn't keep her all night.

"Here ya go, brat," he said as he reluctantly let go.

Kaede turned and started to head back.

"Hey Kaede?"

She stopped when he said her name for the first time and turned around. "Yes?"

"Has um…. I mean does she have a name yet?"

"Ummm…no, not yet. Why did you have one?"

"Could you ask Kikyo what she thinks of the name Hayden?"

"Sure."

*******************************************************(Flashbac k's finally over)

Inuyasha sat in Kaede's hut, the very hut Hayden had been born in. She was still unconscious and lay on a bedroll. He had so many questions that he wanted to ask her, mostly like where'd she `d been and why she was trying to kill him. Why hadn't Kaede told him about what happen to her? Since Kaede was gone at the moment and Hayden was passed out, he could do nothing but wait.
