InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Hidden Past, Hidden Self ❯ Feelings Shift ( Chapter 9 )
I don't own any of the InuYasha characters in this fanfic. The ones I own are Kane-Sakura, Setsuna, and Trowa. Mika is owned by my friend Stephanie, Michi (coming in a later chapter) to my friend Nicky, and Yuki (coming in a later chapter) belongs to Danielle.
Last time on The Hanyou's Little Sister:
Slowly but surely, the pain stopped and her heartbeat slowed to its normal pace. She held her head as she sat up, a migraine beginning to set in. "Ugh, that was the worst thing I've ever felt!" Kane looked at her hand to find she no longer had her long claws, but normal human finger nails. She felt for her ears, but they weren't there anymore; they were on the side of her head in the place they were for humans. And her hair was the same color as her brothers, silver. The final change she noticed was that her teeth were normal again too; no more fangs, just human incisors. "I…I'm human?"
***
From behind her, the demon slowly crept his hand closer to her body. Since her sense of smell wasn't working and her ears were human, she heard nothing as the hand plucked her out of the tree like she was some kind of ripe fruit. "Huh?!" She couldn't contain her surprised gasp as the demon squeezed her with all his might. Now that Kane had a close up view of the demon, she could easily tell that it was a giant ogre, with long horns and red glowing eyes.
He looked right at her in triumph. "What a little prize you are indeed."
Kane screamed for her life, wriggling to try and get out of the ogre's lung constricting grasp he held on her poor little body. "InuYasha, help!!"
***
"Heh; I'll show you what strong is feline!" He boasted to Setsuna.
"Then let me show you something even stronger!" A voice came out of nowhere. A shadowy figure came out of the thicket of the forest.
"Who are you?!" InuYasha demanded.
As the figure came closer, it said, "Your little sister's savior, Trowa."
***
Kane fell down with a demon's normal slow decent. Trowa caught her in his waiting arms after sheathing Obakeginsei. "What a spectacular sight, though I thought her to be half-demon; she looks like a normal human being to me." He cradled her in his arms with tender care, smoothing out her hair with a tender sweep of his hand. "No matter; she's mine now." He calmly began to walk away.
InuYasha stepped in front of the retreating demon. "I don't think so. My sister will stay with me!"
"Oh-ho! Really?! I thought I was the one who'd saved her; maybe I imagined it. Not to mention, we must be married as soon as possible, so she must come with me."
"You can't take her, she doesn't even know who the hell you are!" Setsuna begged.
"And who are you to say I can't? You are a lowly feline and a three-quarters nonetheless. I, on the other hand, am full demon and fully capable of protecting her." He then turned to InuYasha. "And you have proven my point by not protecting her!"
InuYasha stepped back. `It's true, this time I couldn't protect her from harm. And it's all Setsuna's fault.' He turned towards the three-quarters demon and scowled. "Shizuka ni! Give her…"
"I'm leaving now, so if you mind." A great puff of smoke engulfed him and he disappeared with Kane in tow.

Chapter 9: Feelings Shift
Kane groaned as she slowly came to her senses; a blinding light making her squint. `Ugh; what the hell happened last night?' She felt how stiff her body was as she attempted to sit up. Little did she know that it was still night; the light that had been shining in her eyes had been the full moon's. She put her hand on her head and felt that she still had human ears along with human finger nails. She looked around in the dark, unsure of her surroundings. `Where am I?' She noticed at once that it definitely wasn't a hut; the room itself was bigger than Kaeda's. `Is this a mansion?' She took in a deep breath, trying to pick up a scent, but her nose wasn't working and her chest hurt like hell. She placed her hand over her chest and felt bandages. `Something doesn't feel right.' Kane said to herself. Finally fed up with not getting any information from her surroundings, she asked out loud, "What is the world is going on?!"
"Do not panic," A voice said from a far corner of the expansive room. "You are being well taken care of and in no danger." A pair of silver eyes shimmered in the moonlight. "Make yourself at home, Kane-Sakura; you live here now."
"Who are you?!" Kane demanded from the shadowy figure. She slowly stood and took out her sword, Teretsu.
"You wouldn't hurt your fiancé would you?" He stepped out of the shadows and into the dimly lit room.
"No closer or I'll…fiancé? Since when?" Kane put the sword to her side.
"Since you were born of course. I'm Trowa, and we are to be married as soon as preparations are made." He came closer to her, his eyes sparkling with his steps.
"Hold up! I've been engaged since birth and nobody ever told me?! No, that can't be right!" Kane sheathed her sword at last, feeling a little more secure now that she knew that this man wouldn't try to murder her.
"I'm afraid it is. When your mother's family found out that you were a hanyou after your birth, they contacted my family when I was but three summers old saying we were to wed when you reached sixteen passes of the seasons. By the time you were born, your mighty father had already perished…"
"But I don't love you!" Kane ran for the door, but was halted by Trowa; he embraced her in a tight hug. Try as she might, she couldn't squirm out of his grasp. "Let go of me you bastard!"
"Kane-Sakura, can't you see that my heart goes out to you? I love you!" He brought his lips down to meet hers in a tender kiss. At first Kane was stunned by his soft, warm lips and she attempted to push him away, but it failed miserably. She succumbed to his gentle pecks and soon began to return them as she closed her eyes. With each new kiss, she sank deeper into a feeling of security.
He pulled his face away from hers and looked into her eyes as they glistened in desire. Fireworks were shooting in her pools of amber as she blushed a brilliant pink. No word could describe what they had experienced. Kane's feelings shifted from Setsuna to this man that stood before her; his charm had subdued her to a mere little girl.
"It's late my love; you need your rest to heal that injury of yours." Trowa turned to leave the room.
`My injury; how did I get that?' Kane thought. It didn't take her long to realize how she had gotten it, and she panicked. "Oh Kami, where's everybody?! What happened to InuYasha and Setsuna?!!" She unsheathed Teretsu once again. "You'd better tell me their whereabouts or I'll really slice you down the middle!" She demanded.
"They were not harmed, by me at least. I spared their lives for your sake." He turned around and smiled at Kane who didn't buy it.
"For my sake?! If it was all for my sake, how come you kidnapped me from by brother?" Agitated, Kane thrust the sword out in front of her and charged. "Let me go back to my brother!"
He swiftly dodged the blade by leaping out of range. Then he unsheathed his own sword and brought it down through Kane. She remained still; too stunned to comprehend that her own fiancé had stabbed her. The sword sliced the flooring behind her, remaining there when he let go. She thought she'd feel immense pain and be dead already, but she was still alive. In fact, she was standing yet; she wasn't even bleeding or feeling any kind of pain. Her hand went out to touch the sword, but she went right through it; almost like the sword wasn't even there. "What…what hap…?" Her breathing was shallow and she was afraid to move from the very spot she stood; terrified that if she did, the blade would cut her.
"My sword, Obakeginsei, only pierces what I wish it to. I honestly didn't feel like killing my fiancée, but you did need a lesson taught." He removed the katana, then sheathed it.
Kane just stood there, absorbing the effects of knowing how close she could've been to death. She felt dizzy suddenly, as though the world were spinning faster than before. She felt her body give itself over to the darkness as she fell to the floor, Trowa's strong arms catching her just before she hit the wooden flooring.

The following morning, Kane opened her eyes to the sound of birds singing the Sakura garden near the castle fortress walls. Kane laughed as she thought about the meaning of her name. `Beautiful Cherry blossom, I wonder if Trowa planted those trees because he thought of me.' She slowly sat up, inspecting herself for clues that she was a demon again. Sure enough, her claws were back and she had her ears, black hair, and fangs. `My powers must've returned as the sun rose.' Her eyes brightened. `I can escape!'
She sprinted out of the door and into the gardens. Once she came to the Sakura trees, she saw a very lofty wall before her eyes. For people in Feudal Japan, she had to admit that they had a way with walls. "One jump might clear it." Kane thought out loud. "But, am I strong enough; like my brother?" She bent her knees and pushed off the ground with all her might. "Maybe I can do this!" Kane said in glee. She smiled as she neared the top, but her hand fell only inches short of grabbing the top of the fence.
She landed gracefully on her feet. `None of the Sakura trees are near enough to jump into and use as support.' She bared her teeth in frustration, growling slightly. Then she heard footsteps from behind her; footsteps so silent, an ordinary human wouldn't have ever picked them up with their hearing. `Somebody's trying to sneak up on me; I guess they'll just get a good piece of Teretsu.' She unsheathed Teretsu as she spun around to face the intruder.
"My goodness, your raven hair is quite lovely! And your ears are absolutely perfect fitting!" Trowa brought out his hand to touch her ears with his delicate hands.
"Another inch and I'll chop off that hand of yours…" Kane threatened. "…slowly!"
"Yes, very vivacious is my fiancée this morning." He carefully brought his hand back. "Come Kane-Sakura, our breakfast is awaiting us."
"I don't think so buddy! My first priority is to find my brother!" Kane didn't take the sword down. "You can't just marry me because of what…what my mother and father…told your family sixteen years ago!" Kane stuttered for some unknown reason. "We never even met until yesterday! I thought arranged marriages allow the couple to get to know each other before they get hitched!"
"Ah, yes; you were not made aware of this like I was. I suppose I can allow us to get to know the other so we can have a happy marriage…"
"Don't you have ears? I don't want to marry you! I'm not in love with you, at all!" Kane protested as she lowered her sword.
"Something told me differently last night; I believe you never tried to push me away when I kissed you. Plus you seemed very satisfied with that little tidbit of what I gave you. If we get married, there will be much more of that to come and then some." He pressed his body against Kane's.
She remembered the intimate kiss they had shared the night before. `That's right; I fell in love with him last night. But then he tried to kill me with his sword.' Kane growled and retreated from his touch. "Then why'd you almost kill me last night?!"
He shook his head in disbelief. "I could never kill you, my love. As I said before, the sword only pierces what I wish it to. I didn't want to hurt you." He bowed his head. "Though your family had other intentions."
"Nani? What do you mean they had other intentions?"
"They cared not for you; that's why they convinced your mother to give you away to my family as soon as you were weaned from her breast. They were going to give you to my family, have you and me marry, then live out our lives together as rulers of this domain. Not long after your birth, your mother was attacked by a demon after a mysterious phenomenon sent the demon's army into oblivion. His army had been attacking your family's castle, but a bright light illuminated the whole area, leaving only the army leader alive. And for some reason, he went after you and your mother. She sent you into the well, but my people believed you had been devoured by the same evil spirit that had left your mother by the well. When we told your kin about the tragedy, they mourned only for your mother, not one tear was shed in your sake."
Kane trembled. "There is one relative of mine that cares; my half-brother InuYasha. He came to find me and take me home, but I was a bitch and tried my hardest not to train so I could go back home." A tear ran down her pedal soft cheek. "He had said that our father had sent him to find me; does that mean that he's still alive?"
"My dear," Trowa swept the tear away from her cheek. "Your father is no longer with us. He died not long before your mother. In fact it was him that had objected to the arranged marriage."
Another tear made its way down her face. "Father…"
"You need not worry, my family will not abandon you; we intend to keep our promise to your mother, who very reluctantly gave you up to us and saved your life." Feeling her uncertainty and grief, he turned away. "My love, I'll let you go on one condition," Kane stared at him, eyes wide in skepticism. "You must forget about me. I'll come to get you once arrangements have been made, so don't fall in love with anyone while I prepare. Remember, I am your fiancé and I love you with all of my heart. You're my only." He began to walk away, but then remembered something else to say to the girl. "The exit is just beyond the end of the Sakura trees. I wish you well."
"Thank you Trowa. I-I won't forget you." Kane leapt into a tree and ran along the tree tops to the gate.

It was late afternoon and the sun was just beginning to set in the west as it had since the beginning of time. InuYasha and Mika were sitting along the banks of a stream with their feet ankle deep in the cool water. InuYasha sighed heavily as he said, "I can't believe I've lost my sister to that bastard Trowa."
"Don't go blamin' me. Besides, doesn't it feel like a weight's been lifted off your shoulders? I know I feel lighter." Mika laid back in the supple grass, sunbathing in pleasure. "Yep, that's one less thing for me to worry about."
InuYasha wasn't in the mood for Mika's arrogant attitude at the moment (then again, is he ever?), so he picked her up, single handedly and held her over the crick. "You really like to pull on my leash, don't you?" He held her firmly by her armor.
"What're you doing to me, mutt-face?! Put me down!" Mika screamed.
"Fine, you want me to drop you," He smirked. "HEEL!" He let go just as the incantation was activated. "Well, there you go."
Mika sat up as soon as the spell had worn off and started to spit out water. "That's not fair!" Mika recalled InuYasha's command and wondered if it would work for her. `Only one way to find out.' She took in a deep breath, then said for the world to hear, "SIT!!!" He fell after his necklace glowed an eerie purple. "Woo-hoo! Now we're even!"
"Speaking of even," Kane's voice resounded from behind her. "I believe I owe you a heel." Mika was in the water again before she could turn to see who was talking to her.
Her head popped out of the water. "Hey, since when did you owe me one?!" Mika growled.
"I heard your whole conversation." She smiled a fake sweet grin.
"How did you escape that Trowa guy?" Mika asked as she got up.
"He let me go. He said he'd come get me when the preparations are met." She glanced over at her half-brother. He wasn't sitting up as of yet.
"You agree with him on this engagement? I thought you liked Setsuna?" Mika snickered.
Kane blushed. "Since when do you care? Besides, I don't see any guys asking for your affection." It was her turn to blush. "Oh, so there is somebody. Who is it?"
"Hey, at least my feelings stay on…" Kane's necklace pulled her to the ground.
"Huh?!" She gasped as she landed face first in the dirt. Steam rose from her body's crater.
"Cool! I have control over your stay command!" Mika accidentally sent the poor hanyou further into the ground.
"NO! Not cool! Now I have two demons in control of my command!" Kane complained.
"So do I! Stop your whining dog-breath!" Mika looked down into Kane's eyes as Kane struggled to sit up slightly. Their eyes locked in a stare down as sparks flew in between them.
InuYasha looked up from his crater in the ground, angry at their arguing. "STAY!! HEEL!!" He yelled out at once. Both girls flew into the ground, making themselves their own depressions.
Once they could control their bodies again, both sat up, looked each other in the eye, then said after smiling in delight at what harm they could cause to InuYasha, "SIT!!" He fell, of course, twice as hard.
Reality hit Kane almost at once. She asked while Mika was laughing, "Did we just tell my brother to sit?" He fell deeper with a loud "Oof!"
Mika rubbed some tears away to look at Kane. She saw the seriousness in her face, and realized how much trouble they were really in. "Yeah, I think we did tell him to sit." Again, he fell in deeper. Both girls cringed together, looked at each other, then yelled out, "RUN FOR IT!!" Laughing, both girls got up and ran away from the creek as fast as their legs could carry them. Unfortunately for them, InuYasha recovered too fast.
"STAY!!! HEEL!!!" He yelled at the top of his lungs. From the effects of running and getting called to stay and heel, both Kane and Mika tumbled down the hill doing summersaults. Mika ended up hitting a tree face first; her arms and legs both wrapped around the trunk. Kane, on the other hand, kept going until she hit the stream. Luckily, she landed face up.
Her big brother stood over her as he smiled. "Good to see you're still in one piece." He gave her a hand and pulled her out of the water single handedly. As Kane tried to squeeze excess water out of her hair and kimono, InuYasha decided to have a little fun with her. He approached her and tackled her to the ground, tickling her the whole way down.
"Hey, what're you doing?!" Kane asked, laughing from her brother's light touches under her armpits.
"My older brother, Sesshomaru, and I never did anything like this because he thinks I'm inferior to him." He sat up off of Kane, stopping to explain his actions. "I was worried about you and I thought…" That thought was interrupted when Kane tackled him back.
"Gotcha!" Kane yelled out as she pinned him to the ground. "You know, I'm way past the tickling stuff. Wrestling is a much better past time for me!" She squealed as she was pushed off of InuYasha to be brought down again.
Mika didn't understand what was going on; she thought they had lost it. Until she heard laughter and saw both of them smiling. But she had no time to join in; she rubbed her nose with tender care as she walked away to see if Kaeda knew how to fix a broken nose.
That same night, InuYasha and Kane were talking about what had happened while she was away. They were outside lying in the grass under the stars; Kane was enjoying her brother's company for what seemed to her the first time.
"So, that Trowa guy really thinks you'll marry him, huh?" InuYasha asked.
"Yeah, he's kinda hard headed; thick skulled if you put it your way." She smiled. "But he's a good guy, I can tell."
"What?! Didn't he kidnap you and keep you hostage?!" InuYasha sat up, furious by Kane's compliment to Trowa.
Kane closed her eyes. "I didn't have much trouble getting away; he let me go." She imagined his sweet face in her head. "He's a really nice guy. For a demon anyway."
"Are you in love with him?"
That question came out of nowhere and Kane mentally stumbled backwards. "I-I guess so. We did kiss once." Her memories wandered back to the soft touch of his velvety lips.
InuYasha stared at his sister in disbelief. `She loves that demon? What kind of spell did he cast on her?!' Then he saw that her sword was nowhere to be seen. "Kane, do you still have Teretsu?"
"Huh? Oh yeah I do." She opened her eyes to peer over at him.
"It's your inheritance from Father, and other demons may try to steal it from you. I mean, it's made of gold and diamonds."
Kane unsheathed Teretsu. "That much I understand, but is it really that special of a sword?"
`No transformation yet. I guess I'll have to train her to use it in battle.' InuYasha mentally sighed as he stared at Kane, who yawned as big as her mouth would open. "Are you tired?"
Kane never answered his question. She fell asleep after laying her head down in the comfort of the grass she lay on. InuYasha picked up her body and carried it to Kaeda's hut. He gently set her down on a mat, and covered her with a blanket from Kagome's pack.
InuYasha walked out of the hut and to his tree where he ran into Kagome. "Hey InuYasha, how's Kane doing?"
He sighed heavily, breathing in her sweet scent. "She's fine, just tired. She's sleeping right now."
Kagome stood next to InuYasha and took his clawed hand in her own soft one. "And Trowa?"
"He let her go. Kagome, I'm sorry about ignoring you over the past day or so; it's just that…"
"Shh…don't worry about it InuYasha. I knew you were concerned for your sister's well being, and I understood." She looked into his eyes. InuYasha embraced her little frame and she encased his own as they shared a quiet hug. She whispered, "Good night." Into his ear, then walked into the hut where Kane slept.
`I guess my assumptions were right; they do love each other.' Kane thought as she fell into a deep, peaceful slumber.

From now on, I'm going to try and update once a week. I think I'll post one new chapter out here every Friday so this can get done by the end of summer. One more time, I'd like to remind all who read this that you can write a review once you're done.
Look for a new fanfic that I will be writing in my own spare time this summer. It'll be a songfic based off of a song on the `Spiderman 2' soundtrack. I'll try to keep you posted.
