InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Hidden Past, Hidden Self ❯ A New Foe ( Chapter 14 )
I do not own any of the InuYasha characters in this fanfic. But I do own the main character and her soon to be boyfriend; the other made up ones belong to my friends. Steph owns Mika, Nicky owns Michi, and Danielle owns Yuki (coming soon).
Last time on The Hanyou's Little Sister
"Do not apologize for something that can not be helped; but we must make haste for our wedding awaits." He took her left hand. "Let this be symbolize the love we will share in the future once we are happily wed." He slipped a white gold ring on her finger that was accompanied with a sapphire heart and six tiny diamonds.
"Oh, it's beautiful." Kane breathed. "How did you come across something like this?" Kane gave him a light peck on the cheek.
"I have servants with the ability to create glistening jewelry without much effort; they found the gold and the jewels and put it in such a fashion that they believed you would love." He kissed her hand with the ring on it. "Come, let us hurry." He pulled on her arm to take her away, but Kane held her ground.
"I can't; not now."…

Mika's sensitive ears picked up the laughter and she stopped. "Who's there?" She called out, not afraid, just cautious.
The girl instantly stopped. As Mika listened for more, and heard nothing else, she continued her grumbling. Once she was right under the girl's branch, she swung down and caught the bracelet in her hand when it passed by her again in mid air.
"What the…!" Mika asked herself, looking around for the golden object. Then she heard the girl's laughter again from up above her. She looked up and saw one sandaled foot hanging down. "It seems I've lost my bracelet. Oh well." And she casually walked away.
"I am so smart!" The monk exclaimed. Suddenly, Mika's head popped up into the tree, said, "Hello." She grabbed the girl's foot, pulled down and said, "See ya!"
"AAAHHH!!!" BOOSH!!...

"- - -AAAAAIN!!!" BOOSH!! "OW!!!" Kane yelled out. The dust flew, making it almost impossible to breathe.
Once it was cleared and Kane had regained her senses, she looked down at the girl who had passed out on contact. InuYasha and Kagome had both woken from their sleep and ran over to her. They pulled the girl off of Kane and she laid there with dust covering her kimono. They laid the strangely dressed girl on the ground and began to inspect her. She carried a golden staff that curved at the top into a strange looking rod or a spear. Her right hand also had this weird covering like Miroku's. It even had the rosary of beads. Her clothing was that of a monk only more feminine touches were added; for example she had it shortened had a slit going up one side. Her hair was black as a ravens and she was very short.
"Who is this girl?" Kane asked, not sure if she'd even get an answer.
"I think I know her." InuYasha said.
"Really?" Kane and Kagome said simultaneously. Kane's tone was questioning, Kagome's was more serious.
"It looks like this is Miroku's sister. He told me once that his father had been womanizing once more before he had died and this was produced."…

"Oh, I'm not really that tired. You look like you haven't slept in days." Michi said.
"I haven't. Mika's snoring kept me up all night for three nights. I really need…"
"What about my snoring?" Mika said behind Kane. She jumped away from the two girls and into a nearby tree after Mika had said that. Kane glared at her when she started to snicker.
"You! You're that wolf that pulled me down, pushed me off a cliff, and dropped me!"
Mika turned back to Michi. "And if it ain't the girl who almost got away with my bracelet. What're you doing here?"…
Chapter 14: A New Foe
Kane-Sakura looked over at the two girls as they stared each other down. `I thought she wasn't going to come back.' She almost growled. `I'd better separate those two before they start fighting.' Leaping from her tree, Kane landed in between them, facing Mika.
"Kane, why is this monk here?" Mika asked menacingly as Michi ducked behind her bodyguard. "Are you protecting her?"
Kane side-stepped to put the monk in full view. "Nope, she was dropped…" She glared at Mika, knowing the truth. "…on top of me. But she's only looking for her brother, Miroku."
"She's Miroku's sister?"
"Technically only his half-sister. But you know they're related because of…" Kane picked up the girl's right hand. "…the Kazzana."
"Does it actually suck just like Miroku's?"
"Will you please let go of my arm?!" Michi persisted.
"Oh, sure." Kane dropped it. "So, why are you here? I thought you didn't want to come back." Kane asked sarcastically.
"I didn't." She folded her arms across her chest. "I was forced to come here."
"Forced? How were you forced to come back?"
"My brother's a total asshole and told me I had to come back to protect Kagome."
"Why's he so concerned for Kagome?" Now Kane was confused.
"He thinks that Kagome is his mate." Mika glanced over at the young miko and Kane's brother as they snuggled against each other. It was, of course, only because Kagome had unconsciously gotten close, but InuYasha made no move to get away from her. "He's so thick-headed. He told me I had to come back so that that mutt-face wouldn't harm a single hair on her head. He also believes InuYasha to be incompetent when it comes to protecting her."
"Is your brother dumb or something?" Michi asked. Mika's response was smooshing the girl's head into the ground with her foot.
Kane yawned, feeling her eyelids become heavier with sleep. "Mika, since you're here, could you keep watch on…" Before she could finish her sentence, her body collapsed and Kane fell asleep right on the spot.
"Wow, I guess she was tired." Mika stated. "I guess I could hang out here for a little while to keep watch for her."
Michi, being the nice person she was, grabbed a blanket from Kagome's backpack and covered Kane up as she hugged her sword, Teretsu. `Nice sword.' Michi reached out to touch it as Mika looked on and said, "I wouldn't do that if I were…" But her warning came too late as her fingers grazed the hilt and pulled on it. Kane awoke instantly and unsheathed it, pointing it directly into the monk's face.
"AAAHHH!!" She screamed and jumped back in surprise.
InuYasha's sensitive dog-ears picked up the potential danger and aroused to unsheathe his own sword and protected the still sleeping Kagome. Michi, Mika, and InuYasha watched as the blade transformed into a fang, three times the size it had been before. She gulped.
"Whoa…" Mika said as Kane held it up for all to see. InuYasha seemed impressed enough.
"Well, you managed to make it transform, but can you do any attacks?" He held out his Tetsusaiga. Kane just glared at him, not awake enough to answer his question. "Heh, so you can't. Figured so much."
Suddenly awake enough to stand, Kane said once on her feet, "Is that a challenge?" Teretsu glowed its crystalic white as she said this. "Cause if you're going to battle me," Kane shook her head to get some wisps of hair out of her face. "Then you're in for some major bruising."
`The sword is sensing the path of its full potential for her.' His eyes narrowed. `And she knows it. She's figured out the sword's special attack.'
"STAY!!" Mika yelled out; but she didn't stop there. "SIT!!" Both Kane and InuYasha fell to the dirt, dropping their swords into the soft soil.
Kane was the first to regain her senses. "Mika! Why the hell did you tell me to `stay'?!"
"It's late. I'd like you to settle down and get some sleep! You'll end up waking the whole forest if you get into a battle at this time of night!"
"So?! He challenged me!"
"Listen, you need sleep and you aren't going…" As Mika said this, Kane instantly fell asleep from her position on the ground. Mika fell over and did the famous anime twitches.
"What a ditz." Michi stated.

The pursuit for Naraku was put on pause so Michi could return to her brother. Besides, now that Mika was back, Kane's training could continue without InuYasha's help and he could go on with finding Naraku with Kagome, Miroku, Sango, and Shippo.
"You guys stay…" Kane fell at her command being uttered by her big brother unintentionally. "Sorry Kane; didn't mean it…" He snickered as he sort of apologized to her. "Anyway, me, Miroku, Kagome, Sango and Shippo are going to continue our search for Naraku.
Kane bolted right up. "Can we go to the future?! I really want to start school!" Kane squeaked.
Kagome looked over at InuYasha, then back at Kane. "Well, only if you don't get into trouble" Kagome sighed, knowing the inevitable wasn't to be prevented with a warning. "We'll be back in three days."
Kane's excitement level went from zero to sixty in a matter of seconds as she bounced off the walls the whole way to the well. Mika got so annoyed at the hanyou, that she almost stayed her a million times over into the ground. Michi was confused as to what was so exciting that she was in a daze. Then again, she was so excited to finally meet her brother that she irritated him as well by hanging on him the whole way to the well.
Once all of them were in the future, Kagome left on one final note. "Don't terrorize the town and please don't destroy the house." She left very reluctantly.
The trio of girls settled into the guest bedroom, talking over certain things. Mika lounged on the bed, Michi relaxed in a chair while Kane laid on her belly on the floor. "You're engaged? To whom?" Michi asked.
"His name is Trowa; he's a Phantom demon, really cute and sweet." Kane sighed deeply as she looked at the engagement ring on her left hand.
"But I thought you liked Setsuna?" Mika said sarcastically. Kane's answer was a swift blow of a pillow in the face.
Kane sat up. "That was at first, bozo. Besides, Setsuna doesn't really like me; he's just being nice." The pillow was returned to her, only it hit Kane so hard she fell onto her back from her sitting position.
"Don't get me started dog." Mika stated.
It soon got to a point where nobody could keep their eyes open and the room fell dead silent. Kane snuggled into her covers on the bed as Mika and Michi shared the floor with sleeping bags. For once, it seemed Kane would get some sleep since Mika wasn't snoring. Then, at 2 o'clock, there was some shuffling in the room that woke Kane up to see what the noise was. She sat up and saw a figure creeping up to Michi who was still fast asleep.
"Mika, what're you doing?" Kane asked sleepily.
"I talked to Kaeda before we came here. If this girl is gonna `hang' with us, she needs to have a subduing thingy too." She held out a necklace.
"A necklace, huh?" Kane slipped out of the warm covers to sit up out of bed, her feet hanging over the edge. "But she's a human; it won't w…"
"So? She's got a Wind Tunnel like Miroku."
"She's only a human!" Kane nearly shouted.
"I don't give a damn!" Mika yelled out, waking Michi.
"What don't you give a damn about?" Michi asked. Mika hid the necklace behind her back. "What's going on you two?"
"N-nothing." Mika stuttered. Kane saw that she was off guard and attempted to snatch the beads from Mika by lunging off the bed for them. Once she got her hands on them, she clung tight to them at the same time that Mika also hugged them with her own mitts. The necklace broke, causing beads to scatter all over the floor. Since they were glass, some of them shattered into tiny shards.
"What was that?" Michi picked up one of the beads.
"A necklace of mine. At least it was a necklace." Kane glared at Mika in fake anger.
"And you're up at this hour because you remembered that she had borrowed a necklace from you and never returned it?"
"Naw; I just couldn't sleep." Mika looked over at Kane in real anger. "The dog's been snoring again so I stole it to get revenge."
Michi stared at them like they were crazy. "Go back to sleep; it's too late for you guys to be doing crap like this." She laid back down and fell asleep again.
Mika sighed. "What now? The necklace is broken…"
"If you really insist on getting this done, then," Kane brought out an ear gun. "Give me that bead." She pointed at one of the beads on the floor.
"Where'd you get that?"
"I bought it the last time we were here." Kane was busily putting a metal piece on the bead with some crazy glue; and then put it in the gun. "It pierces ears in a very easy way. I find it very convenient when I want a new piercing." Kane looked at Michi, then said, "Hold her down. This will hurt and most likely will wake her up."
Mika pinned the girl down with her body weight. "Good thing she's a heavy sleeper." She whispered.
Kane positioned the gun on the monk's ear; right up against the cartilage. "Here goes." Steadily, she placed her finger on the trigger and pulled it.
When the gun tip touched her ear, Michi's eyes flew open. And when the earring went through her ear, then she screamed. "OWW!!!"
"Is it in?!" Mika asked over the monk's caterwauling.
"Yeah; can't you tell?!"
Michi used all of her strength to push the wolf off of her and sat up to feel her ear. "What the hell happened; and what is this?!" She asked.
"A word; I need a word!" Kane sputtered.
"How about `beg'?" Michi's ear glowed crimson, then pulled her down into the ground.
"Perfect." `But I can't help but wonder why it worked; I thought it only subdued demons.' Kane went on thinking.
"Itai; that hurt! Why did this thing slam me into the ground?!"
"Good question; is there something you forgot to tell us about yourself?" Kane interrogated.
"Kane, what nonsense are you spouting now?" Mika huffed.
"Those charms only work on demons or those with demon blood. There's gotta be something about…"
"You're right," Michi interrupted. "I'm half-demon, through my mother."
"Huh?" The other two girls said.
"My mother was a youkai, a fire apparition to be exact. That's why I carry my staff everywhere I go; it controls my combustion." She admitted. "Unlike my brother, when I lose my Kazzana, I'll still have my demon powers to protect myself. Miroku, on the other hand, doesn't have fire powers and is all human; he'll have nothing to defend himself with. That's why I had to find him before Naraku was defeated. Now I can defend him." Tears filled her eyes.
"Are you all right?" Kane asked Michi as she sobbed. Gently, she placed a comforting arm around Michi's shoulders.
"Miroku's my only living relative left. We need to stick together." Michi sobbed.
"Mika, look at what you've done to the poor girl!" Kane scolded.
"Me! You're the one who put the earring on her!"
"It was your stupid idea!"
"Hey guys?" Michi asked.
"I was gonna be nice about it!" Mika yelled.
"Guys!"
"No you weren't! You're a wolf and wolves…"
"GUYS!!" Michi yelled out in the middle of their heated argument. "It's late! I'd like to get some sleep!"
They broke their glare to stare at a non-teary eyed Michi. "She's right." Kane sighed. "I have school tomorrow, so I need my rest."
Mika agreed my settling down and into her sleeping bag. Michi was way ahead of them and was snoring away lightly.

"InuYasha, do you think it was a good idea to leave Kane and the others in the future by themselves?" Kagome beseeched nervously. She was extremely worried about the city of Tokyo and her house.
"I thought getting away from my sister was an excellent idea. Some days I wonder about her." As InuYasha answered this, Kagome's back stiffened. "What is it?"
"I sense something approaching." InuYasha grabbed the hilt of his sword at the mentioning of `something'. He looked everywhere around the campsite for some sign of any danger and soon came to find that he too sensed the other demon's presence.
A face appeared in the brush. Although he looked as if he was harmless, something about his features sent chills up your spines when you looked into his blood red eyes. As he came out of the shadows, more of his physiognomy came into view; he had long black hair tied up in a braid and he had a broad chest and shoulders. He wore armor similar to a samurai and carried no sword. He stared at InuYasha and Kagome with deep intensity and intent to kill locked away deep in his crimson eyes.
"Who are you?" InuYasha demanded as he unsheathed Tetsusaiga.
"I am someone that your sister should cower before when she meets up with me. You are Kane-Sakura's older half-brother, InuYasha, are you not?" The man stepped forward.
"Who needs to know?"
The demon glared at InuYasha and produced a sword from his hand. Caught off guard, it punctured InuYasha in the gut and sent him reeling back in pain.
"INUYASHA!!!" Kagome yelled out as the mysterious man pulled the sword out of Kane's brother. "What do you want with his sister; why are you doing this?!" Kagome demanded as she knelt by the bleeding hanyou, her bow drawn and an arrow out of its quiver and pointed at the man.
"I, the great Ren-Tao, have to gain vengeance from his sister for killing my comrades." The man now known as Ren-Tao closed his eyes. "That bitch deserves to die for all she committed against my clan."
"When did she…?"
"As an infant, her power was so infinite, even she couldn't control it. She executed all of my warriors in just minutes." Ren-Tao's expression was filled with a passion to kill. "I am the sole survivor of all of my clan." He disappeared suddenly, as if he had never even been there.
"Kagome-chan, what happened?!" Sango asked as she approached the camp from the woods.
"A demon attacked here, trying to find Kane-Sakura and ran InuYasha through." Kagome started to rummage through her backpack for her first aid kit all the while keeping a close eye on InuYasha, who had just woken up.
"Ren-Tao? So that's the bastard's name, eh?" InuYasha sat up, holding his bleeding stomach with his left hand. "Let's go find him; I have to stop him before Kane comes back."
"InuYasha, you can't right now! You're…"
"It doesn't matter! Protecting my sister comes first!" He cringed as he yelled out.
"Oi dog-boy! Where's your sister?" Setsuna suddenly leapt out of the foliage and landed in front of InuYasha.
When InuYasha had an idea pop into his head, it made him laugh slightly at the prospect. Even though his idea wasn't something he'd normally want to do, he really had no choice in the matter. As long as Setsuna didn't touch his sister, InuYasha was willing to let Setsuna go to his sister and protect her while he found Ren-Tao. "Hey Setsuna, I have a favor to ask you."

Sorry it took so long to get this chapter out, but my last two weeks were filled up and this week is no better. On Wednesday, I'm going with my aunt to the Minnesota state fair and I'll be gone until Saturday. If I'm lucky, I'll have chapter fifteen out by Wednesday morning. I guess tomorrow I'll have to work a lot in the morning and then go shopping for my back to school wardrobe. School starts September 1st (next week!!) and I'm not sure how many chapters I'll be able to get out during the week and on the weekends. I work part time as a dishwasher and I might be working more at a second job after the school play is done. Plus I'll be in an extra choir, and I'm gonna have church choir and hand bells every Wednesday. Get ready for a bumpy ride throughout the school year!!
Another thing I'd like to mention is the new name of the story. In case some of you didn't notice or think it's a different story, I changed the name because I didn't like the first name. Hidden Past Hidden Self is the original title I was going to give it, but I thought I was going to publish this story and change the names and settings. Turns out I won't be doing that because it's already so far on the internet. I'm up to page 121 on the internet, and I have many more; it's a possibility that this story will reach 350-400 pages in length on paper.
Thank you to all you readers. I'm very thankful that so many people are viewing this story and I hope many more come to like this tale as well. Again, ARIGATO GOZAIMASU!!!
