"Trowa, what have you done?" Tears began to well in her eyes.

"My darling, what do you mean? I've done…"

"Don't act all innocent on me!" Kane choked out. "My nose tells me everything I need to know!"…

***

"She's been missing for over an hour."

Setsuna came out of the forest and into the clearing the group was talking in. "Hey, what's goin' on?" He asked blissfully. Then he noticed two things almost instantly. First was that Kane's scent wasn't around amongst the group or that Kane wasn't around, and second was their solemn faces. `Oh no!' He ran into the woods to find her before the party could respond to his question.

"Kane! Can you hear me?!" Setsuna called out, praying she was still alive. Then he saw the odd cloud hanging in one particular area. No scent came from it or out of it; it appeared to be a scent barrier. `She's gotta be in there!' He blindly, both in his eyes and nose, ran into the fog…

"What kind of sick experiment was this for? Forcing yourself upon a defenseless woman to discover something that might've been fruitless; that's cruelty." Kane shivered, glaring back at Trowa with hate and tears in her eyes.

"You were fruitless, that was what my purpose was to find."

Her eyes widened. "What do you mean?"

"If you had truly been my mate, the only one meant for me, you would've conceived whether or not I forced myself upon you."…

***

"Who did what to you? Kane, what're you trying to…?"

"He dumped me! Trowa raped me and then left me lying in a heap, like some used up trash, and he…he…" Kane's words were cut off and she sobbed harder, her shoulders shaking with each ragged breath she took in. "Oh Setsuna! I…I feel so…!"

***

"Not long. The others are heading out to find Trowa; I'm taking you back to the village to get treated." He looked down at her. "How do you feel?"

"Dirty, broken, and ashamed." Kane put her head into his chest. "I'll never feel the same again." She said monotonously.

`She won't. It's all because that bastard took her innocence away.' Setsuna gently kissed her forehead, but when she flinched, he did nothing more. `I'll have to gain her trust all over again. Trowa will pay.'

Chapter 20: Half-sister Yuki

Not long after being raped by her fiancé, Kane's night to become human every full moon came. Still recovering from such a loss and suffering an incident she didn't wish to remember, she stayed in the hut that night. Meanwhile, Setsuna and Mika had a little talk in the wooded area not far from Kaeda's village.

As Setsuna reclined in a tree, Mika looked up at the Neko. "Hey cat-boy, can I talk to you?"

Setsuna gazed down at the wolf demoness. "What about?"

"Have you noticed how Kane's kind of locked herself away from everyone?"

He sighed and turned his head away. "Yeah I have." Of course he had. The last time he'd actually touched her was when he had carried her back to the village only days earlier. And when he had tried to, she would withdraw from his hand. Then he noticed how many words they had exchanged since that day. Maybe only two words had passed her lips and he had struggled to make a conversation with her, but to no avail. "Mika, she needs time to recover…"

"You're taking it hard, aren't you?" She asked. "Can't say I blame you; after all, how can she trust any man again."

Setsuna growled. "She shouldn't need to fear me! I would never in my life hurt her in anyway! For God's sake, I…I…!" He couldn't say the rest of his sentence. It just wasn't the proper time, place or person to say it in or to.

Mika rubbed her shoulders in a fake attempt to keep warm. "Setsuna, have you tried talking to her at all?"

"Of course I have; but she won't say anything at all to me." Setsuna watched as a night bird took flight from the branch above him, and twittered in the distance as it flew. `Kane's voice was once like that birds. And her spirit as free and innocent as its wings in flight. Now…' He focused his eyes on the night sky and at the full moon.

"Dinner will be ready in a while. Come when you're ready." Mika said as she walked away.

Kane slept in the corner of the hut, facing the wall when he entered with more firewood. His golden eyes shimmered in the dancing light, focusing solely on her. "Should we wake her?" InuYasha asked Kaeda.

"It would be unwise to arouse her now. When you had left, she went into a crying fit and finally fell to sleep." Kaeda responded.

"Another one? What triggered it?" He carefully laid the logs onto the side and poked at the fire with a twig he'd found.

"Young Michi mentioned something that reminded her of Trowa and that sent her into a torrent of tears."

Michi held out a peace sign. "Gomenasai; it was about me and Ori, and something in it reminded her of him."

But InuYasha wasn't angered. He was more or less concerned only about his sister. "Has she eaten anything today?"

"It's been days since she has consumed any type of food. If she keeps this up, she'll die of starvation." Kaeda pointed out just as Mika came into the hut.

"I told Setsuna it was time to eat. I don't know if he'll come or not." She looked over at Kane as she slept. "At least she's stopped crying."

"I fear Kane is in for a hard time. An incident such as what she went through has scarred her for life." Ori said as he draped an arm around Michi. "Perhaps your friend Nakura has something that could help Kane-Sakura?"

Mika nodded and sat next to the pit. "I could ask, but I'm unsure of where he could be right now."

"Simply ask the plants where he is and he'll come find you. Don't you remember what he told you last time?" Michi stated.

Without another word, she stood and walked out. She still felt uncomfortable talking about Nakura to the rest of the group and wanted to find him on her own. As she left, a gloomy Neko demon walked into the hut. "Konbanwa." He stated drearily. Nobody said anything as he sat beside Kane's sleeping form. He looked back at her once, and then faced the group to eat whatever they had to offer. They ate in silence, until Kane whined in her dream state. Setsuna instantly put his food down and went over to her. Cradling her body in his lap, he whispered words of comfort. "Kane, it's me, Setsuna. You're going to be fine, I promise. Just forget about that evil man and sleep soundly." The rest of the group watched in awe as he gently laid her back down on her mat. Her fears had been calmed and she slept peacefully once again.

Mika entered the hut again. "He said there's nothing that we can do to help her. It's something psychological and medicinal herbs have no control in the mind." Then to her dismay, Nakura entered the hut unannounced. "He's decided, though, that he could give her something to get her to sleep easier."

"A narcotic?" Setsuna inquired. "Is that safe?"

"And are ye sure she needs it?" Kaeda asked hesitantly. "As you can see, she's sleeping very well right now."

"It's come to my attention that Kane's been whimpering and crying in her sleep. A narcotic will keep her dream free and in a deep sleep state longer." Nakura put into retrospect. "This will help her get better too, since she was injured."

Setsuna looked down at her bruised wrists. "What other injuries did you find Kaeda?"

"She had severe bleeding from a tear, other wise she is healthy."

"That's a relief." Michi stated. "When you think about it, Kane could've been worse off. Trowa could've killed her or left her to die. If she hadn't gotten up…or if Setsuna hadn't found her…" Michi fell silent.

"Speaking of that bastard, when are you guys gonna head out and search for him again?"

InuYasha sighed. "How can we look for something if we don't know where to find it?"

"At his castle," Mika began. "His scent had been completely erased. He and his servants were gone and the castle looked as though it hadn't been used in years. There was no scent trail to follow and we had nowhere else to look."

Setsuna closed his eyes and hung his head. The one man he wanted to kill was missing and Kane was in a state of depression. He had vowed revenge for her and there was no way he was going to find Trowa. Not only that, but he had to regain all of Kane's trust in him, since her mind was clouded with fear of men; even ones she trusted the most made her shake slightly at their touch. He had sworn vengeance for her, and by God, he was going to win it for her whether it took him days, or lasted till the day he died. Nothing was going to stop him from getting that man's head.

~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`

Kane leaned against the trunk of a tree she sat in two weeks later. Over the past weeks, she'd taken time to get caught up on her homework and mend her broken heart and spirit, and she was feeling better about herself. She no longer blamed herself for the `incident', as everyone so rightly called it, and was living life anew. She held many things dear that she had never even considered precious before and now thought deeply more often than not. Her experience had changed her drastically, and her friends weren't all that happy about it. But now…

One week earlier…

Mika wandered by the old God Tree as Kane sat in it; she noticed Setsuna sitting just below it, close to her side as usual. From where she stood, she could see the blank stare on Kane's stoic face as she thought of whatever she was musing over. `That girl's been so depressed since she was raped. I wonder if she'll ever return to normal.'

A silent tear slipped down her cheek as Kane continued to think. Setsuna sniffed and looked up at her as she cried. He felt guilty every time she wept and he couldn't tell why. He hadn't shamefully raped her or even touched her in any manner that would make him blameworthy. `I wasn't there to protect her; and for that, she was disgraced by her own fiancé. Maybe that's why I feel so responsible for her pain.' He leapt into the tree branch she reclined in. "Hey, what's the matter?"

She wiped the tear away. "Nothing; just appreciating all the wonderful things I have again." Kane didn't want to show any weakness ever again. Once was enough; for anybody.

"Then why are you crying?" Setsuna put his finger on her face and lifted a solitary tear from her eye. "Things like that shouldn't make you cry."

She avoided his intense gaze on her. "I was just thinking about what I could be missing out on if I had married Trowa. In a way, he saved me from something worse than death itself; palace life."

"What's so bad about palace life?"

"I'd be stuck behind those giant walls, with no way of getting out; I'd be married to somebody who doesn't even love me; and I wouldn't be able to travel around with you and my friends." Kane smiled for the first time in what seemed ages.

Mika couldn't help but smile herself as she looked on at the two hanyous. `Setsuna's the only one in this whole week that's drawn a smile out of her. Somehow, knowing this, I think Kane'll be just fine.'

Setsuna locked eyes with her. "I won't ever leave you alone again. From now on, you're with me and I'm with you. And if something ever happens to you when I'm around, whoever or whatever it is, will die."

Laughing slightly, she noted, "But won't you get tired of hanging around me?"

"Never in my existence Kane. Never in this lifetime, or the ones following that." Setsuna cradled her face in his cupped hands. "I'd rather die protecting you than watch you get slaughtered."

Mika glanced up at Kane as she day-dreamed into the heavens. "Oi! Mutt-face!"

Kane sighed and looked down at the wolf demoness. "What now?"

"Me and the monk were going to train; wanna come along?"

She looked up into the branches again. "What do you say Setsuna; wanna join?"

His head popped down from the branches above. "Of course I do. Training sounds like fun."

Michi held her staff perpendicular to her body as she concentrated on her fire powers. The flames swirled around her head as she twirled the staff and opened her eyes. "Hyah!" She cried out as she unleashed her Blaze of Death. After going for a good twenty feet or so, it scattered; not the predicted path she had intended. Setsuna stood there; watching as the flames completely missed him and headed for Kane and Mika. Mika simply put up an ice barrier while Kane used Teretsu as her shield. Once the flames had dispersed, Kane swung her sword and called out, "White Diamond Rainfall!"

"Grab for me, Michi!" Ori said as he swooped down from his cloud. She reached for his hand and hung on fiercely as he took flight, just in time to miss White Diamond Rainfall. Then he called out, "Kane, your attacks have improved immensely. Just don't intentionally hit my love." WHAM!! "What? I was just stating the truth." He rubbed his head on the spot where Michi had hit him with her staff.

Ori landed as Mika and Kane got into a little argument. "I told you; not full force on the attacks."

"That wasn't full force! If that had been full force, the ground would've gotten cut up in the blast!"

"Baka! You did cut up the ground!"

Kane looked on the meadow's top soil and spied the indentations her attack had made. "Gomenasai, I didn't really pay attention…to…" Tears welled up in her eyes and threatened to spill over.

Mika embraced her. "Look, I'm sorry for yelling, but it's time you got over Trowa and return to normal."

Suddenly, a pink barrier encased the whole group and the sad moment was dispelled. "What the hell is this?" Kane asked harshly, wiping excess tears from her eyes. `Is it another one of my enemies?' Kane unsheathed Teretsu again and took her battle stance. "Be on your guard; I have a feeling that whoever is out there wants us dead." Kane looked around, trying to determine where the danger was. Finally, a black figure approached from the shadows. Around the feminine body were butterflies that represented the souls she carried with her to sustain her self. When she came out of the darkness, a fairly short girl, taller than Michi, with long, billowing brown hair shook her head at the group. Her bangs brushed over her forehead, revealing a marking of some kind.

"Who are you?!" Kane demanded.

"I am no one to fear; I don't want to harm you." She said as she walked forward.

"Then why the barrier?!" Mika inquired harshly.

"I simply don't want to have to hurt you should you make a stupid mistake on attacking me; I could hurt you after all."

Setsuna stepped forward. "Pretty arrogant aren't you?"

She ignored the statement. "Myrako, you can come out now." She called out.

A little girl ran across the field; her forehead bore the same symbol as the other one and looked very similar to the first girl. It was almost like she was an incarnation of her.

"Let us out!" Mika pounded on the bubble. The girl Myrako poked at the same place the wolf demon pounded, like she was testing to see if the sphere was solid or not. "Little twit! Don't act so smart!" Mika let her temper flare.

"Stand back Mika! I'll try cutting our way out with Teretsu!" Kane yelled, confidence rising with her sword fully transformed. And when she ran forward and put the blade straight in front of her, she thought for sure the blade had pierced it. Instead, she bounced off and went propelling around the bubble like a pin-ball. She only came to a screeching halt when Mika called out, "STAY!" to stop her.

"Nice try Kane, but I think flames will solve our problem!" Michi stated. Both she and Setsuna prepared to attack.

"I wouldn't do that if I were…" But the two fire apparitions didn't listen to the other girl. Their fire attacks bounced off the walls and collided with the whole group. "…you."

Mika had managed to put up an ice shield around herself and Ori, but forgot about Kane-Sakura. "POO!" Kane let out a ring of smoke from her mouth; her hair was now poofy and burnt.

"What'd you do Kane, stick your finger in a socket?" Mika snickered.

"Just try your attack!" Kane yelled angrily.

"Okay, if you insist." Mika shrugged. Reluctantly, she used her Ice Crystallization to try and break the barrier. Kane was left unprotected again and turned blue from the sudden weather change in the barrier. She shivered as Michi stayed cozy in her fire ring.

"Oh, sorry Kane." Michi put out a peace sign as an apology.

"That's it!" Kane cried out. "I will get us out of here, even if I have to use White Diamond Rainfall!" Her temperature rose as her blood boiled.

`There she goes again.' Mika thought, not thinking of the consequences of the attack.

She let it rip, sending a giant stream of diamonds straight at the barrier walls. Kane felt overly confident that the barrier would shatter, but instead, it intercepted the attack and reflected it like light on a mirror. And when it did, it filled the whole dome and flung the entire group into the walls. They were all plastered against the barricade like flies on a windshield. They slid down to the bottom and lay on the ground, twitching. Once Michi and Mika had regained their senses, they attacked; that is, they attacked Kane.

"You baka! That really hurt!" They chased Kane around the dome and tried to kick her or any other method of violence they could think of. Michi, for example, tried using her staff.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" Kane screamed as she ran.

Myrako and the other girl watched in fascination as the fiasco continued. "Do you think we should let them out now?"

The younger girl just laughed as Michi finally managed to bonk Kane on the head with her staff. The older girl scowled at her, so she finally nodded. "I guess so; they need to know the truth."

"Stop it! I didn't know what the-ow-effect would be!" Kane shouted as they continued to bombard her with hits.

After a while, Mika and Michi felt satisfied that their work was complete. "That oughta teach ya!" Mika dusted off her hands.

"I've learned my lesson…" Kane said into the ground.

"I'm looking for my two half-sisters." The girl stated. "Would you please step forward?" Then she lifted the barrier.

"Oh, we'll step forward all right." Mika said as Kane shot up off of the ground. They approached her angrily, their tempers flying off the charts.

"Wait; I can explain." A giant sweat drop formed on her head as they cracked their knuckles.

"You don't deserve to explain yourself. Right now, you're public enemy number one." Mika said

"You misunderstand me. I know that two of you are my half-sisters from the smell of you, but I can't differentiate the multiple scents because you're all gathered so close." She held her hands up in defense.

"But why'd you encase us in a giant barrier?! We might not've hurt you if you'd come out and said something!" Kane fumed, lunging at the girl to strangle her, but was encased in her own miniature version of the bubble she'd been in before. "What the hell?!"

"Will you listen to me?! I've been searching for my two half-sisters and three half-brothers!" She sniffed the bubble quickly. `And I now know that you're one of them!"

"Me? Your half-sister?" Kane blinked. "Through what relation?!"

"I am Yuki, daughter of your father and her mother." She pointed at Mika. "My mother was also an ice apparition, like she is."

"My father?" Kane said uneasily.

"And my mother?" Mika quizzed. "No way! Me and Koga were my mother's only children!" She nervously laughed it off.

"Sesshomaru, InuYasha, and I are my father's only children." Kane pointed out. "Now tell me, how did you come to this conclusion?"

"Before either of you were born, your father and your mother met under rare circumstances." Yuki began. "I'm guessing you're both about sixteen years of age, correct?"

"Yeah, and what of it?" Mika snorted.

"One year before my father met your mother, he met my mother." Yuki pointed at Mika. "They were possessed by an evil soul and had intercourse. In turn, the soul exited your father in the middle of what he was doing, thus he had no memory of this woman. He was confused and lost, so he abandoned her. Because I had been conceived, the soul remained with her as I grew and in nine months time, I was born. The spirit managed to keep her under control long enough to drop me off in a village close to where she had delivered me. After that, she had no memory of me or my father. She went off to find your father and had you and Koga.

"My father already had two sons and was presumed dead to the world. He met your mother and she produced a daughter." She looked into Kane's eyes. "He didn't know about me at all!"

Kane's heart tore in half. "I had no idea that he didn't know you. Did you try to confront him?"

"I did. But by the time I'd found the courage, he had died during a battle. I regret not telling him." Suddenly, a shearing pain made her cringe. "Uhn!"

The barrier broke and Kane landed hard on her butt. "Itai!" She rubbed it, but forgot her pain when she saw the girl in agony. "Hey, are you okay?"

"My…head…" She put one hand over her mark that now glowed a bright blue. Kane saw the shape now and noticed it was a simple circle with two arrows, each on opposite ends of it and pointing in opposite directions. (It looks kind of like this, only the arrows face north and south. <0> )

"Is something wrong with her?" Michi asked.

"She says her head hurts." Kane moved her hand away to see the mark pulsate.

"Say…a word…together." She said through the pain.

"'Say a word together'? What's that got to do with her headache?" Mika asked.

"It will…uhn…stop the pain."

"What word?"

"Any word!"

"Anybody disagree with `down'?"

"Why that one?" Michi asked the hanyou.

"It's a dog command like sit, stay, and both of yours. Down can be used to train dogs, so let's try it."

They nodded in agreement. "On the count of three." Mika said. "One, two, three…"

"DOWN!" They all said. Yuki slammed into the ground just like Kane, Michi, and Mika did when they were subdued.

"Uhh…I don't think that took care of her headache, Kane." Michi noticed.

"Yeah, I think you made it worse." Mika stated and crossed her arms.

"Me! Why's it all my fault?!" Kane huffed.

"You thought of the stupid word!"

"We all said it together!"

"Why didn't you use a nicer word?!"

As Setsuna and Ori watched the fight erupt, Michi helped Yuki sit up. "Hey you two, her…"

"Flea bag!" Kane yelled as she attempted to punch the wolf.

"Mutt-face!" Mika made a face as she dodged the attack.

"Smelly wolf!"

"Dog breath!"

"Insignificant little…!"

"Insolent puppy!"

During the entire name calling, both girls were trying to punch, kick, scratch, and even bite the other. Michi and Yuki sat on the grass as the boys finally managed to get in between the two. They were easily flung aside and the shindig continued. "Do they always argue like this?" Yuki asked.

"All depends on their moods. Right now, I'm guessing Mika and Kane are in really good moods." Michi nodded.

"Good moods?! They look crabby to me." Yuki noticed.

"Oh no, when they're irritated, they draw their swords."

"Oh, I see." Sweat rolled down the girl's face. `Hope I never see them when they get really angry.'

Mika walked away from a bruised Kane with a smile on her face. She had managed to only get some minor scratches from Kane's claws while Kane lay in a heap. She marched triumphantly towards Yuki and Michi and when she noticed Yuki sitting up and not holding her head, looking content and surprised, Mika stopped smiling. "Oh shit."

"HEEL!! HEEL!! HEEL!!" Kane yelled furiously. Mika hit the ground three times harder than usual. She stomped over to Yuki as the slowly inched away. "What the hell is going on?! That command slammed you into the damn ground; I thought you would've just been relieved of your headache!" Her anger reared its ugly head as her face turned red.

"Now she's moody." Michi whispered. "Just like her brother."

"I carry a curse." Yuki began, ignoring Michi altogether. "My body can not sustain itself for a reason unknown to me. I've been in desperate search for the one who knows why I need souls to keep my body in top shape and not deteriorate."

"What's that got to do with that mark and you falling smack into the ground?" Kane asked, still angry. She seated herself across from the girl as Mika sat next to her, to close the circle. The boys stayed conveniently out of the way, ignoring the girl talk and having their own conversation.

Yuki sighed heavily. "It's hard to explain; I'm not even sure I know it completely. The butterflies that swirl around me when I'm doing an attack, they're the souls I collect. This mark was placed upon my forehead to make me have to collect souls of the dead and, recently, has been giving me trouble. Now because you three uttered a word that subdues me, like her bracelet and your necklace do, I carry a new curse, one that you three have control over. Either you three, or a very powerful miko." She brought Myrako over to sit beside her. "As you might've noticed, she looks almost like my twin. There's a reason."

Kane glanced at Myrako, and noticed the startling resemblance once again. "Tell me, why is she so much like you? A sister perhaps?"

"I was the only product of my mother and father's unexpected union. Myrako was of my own making."

"Somebody's been busy…" Michi stated, just before she got hit over the head with Kane's scabbard.

"Not in that way. She is my incarnation. And she holds all of my powers, so if I die, she dies along with me. I can collect powers from demons that I have defeated; at one point, they became overpowering and I couldn't handle it. Finally, I made her from my own flesh and blood. She holds unlimited power and gives me what I need when I need it."

"Is she always going to look like a little twerp?" Mika noted, laughing her usual chortle.

"She will grow up as time goes on; after all, she's only eight."

"Yeah, and don't call me a twerp!" Myrako retorted.

"Make me!" She mocked the kid.

Fake tears grew in the girls eyes. "Yuki, your half-sister's being mean!"

Kane sighed. "Heel." Mika crashed into the grass. "What do you say to coming along with us?" Kane offered. "I mean, my brother shouldn't mind too much. And if he does, I'll just tell him to sit and…" A loud bang was heard in the brush. "Sorry bro!" Kane called out. "Anyway, I'll subdue him if he says no."

Yuki smiled. "Arigato, I'd really appreciate it."

"Kane, what the hell did I do now to deserve that?!" InuYasha called out to his sister.

"I didn't know you were near. Warn me nex…" Kane called out as she got up and ran over to her brother. Yuki watched as Setsuna followed close by, almost running to keep up with the girl. She couldn't hear what the conversation was as Mika and Michi started arguing, but judging by her pointing in the direction InuYasha was, she was telling him to sit, and Setsuna was trying to calm her down by getting in front of her. She smiled. "Maybe now, I can finally get rid of my curse and discover more about my past. Maybe…"

Hey peeps, it's me! This will be the last chapter for a while, so if you're looking for more to read, be patient. I'll be working on the movie for this story, which I plan on calling `Freak Out', but it might change to something else. I won't make any promises, but I'll try to upload the first chapter to the movie by next Monday, November, 22. I'll also try to get a couple chapters done so that when the movie is done, those can get uploaded ASAP. Wish me luck!

I'd like to thank Queen of Cuteys leaving another review. I'd like to encourage that all readers leave a small one while Hidden Past Hidden Self has been put on pause. Tell me what you think of it and give me advice on how to keep my characters lively or something. Give advice, criticize, praise, damn to hell, anything! Just leave a review!

I know this is a long chapter, but I felt very creative, so I kept going on and adding things that were missing, needed, or would make the chapter better. Enjoy!
