He needed to tear something, destroy something, kill something. The need was so desperate it felt like a beast itself inside of him. His eyes were red and he was fighting hard to keep from changing into his inu form. The taiyoukai moved swiftly into the forest near the castle and began slashing to down trees with his claws, bring the great wooden and leaf giants crashing to the ground with mighty thuds as he roared with rage.
Inuyasha stood on the edge of the forest waiting for his brother's rage to calm, though truth was the hanyou was growing impatient. His youkai brother had been out here slashing and roaring for a good hour already and had taken down half the twenty trees that stood in the forefront of the nearly hundred acre wood. The taiyoukai suddenly stopped his actions and turned to his brother, snarling with rage.
“Hey, I'm not the one you're mad at. I just want to know what the hell's going on,” Inuyasha said as he held his hands up, his palm held out in a show of submission. “What the hell happened anyway?”
Sesshoumaru stared at his brother for a moment, trying to assess if this new figure was dangerous or not. Was this person a threat to his pup? Inuyasha suddenly understood why Sesshoumaru wasn't answering him and gave a low whine as he tilted his head to show his neck. *Leader male* his whine spoke in inuyoukai language, *pack brother* he barked with a yip and a growl following.
*Pack brother?* Sesshoumaru responded in kind with a confused frown on his face.
“Inuyasha?” he said slowly as he came back to his senses. He shook the remaining red glow from his golden eyes as he stepped forward slowly and his knees collapsed from underneath him as the adrenaline rush departed him faster then he could comprehend.
Inuyasha dashed forward and swept his brother into his arms, the hanyou being the only thing that kept the taiyoukai from having a very intimate and personal introduction with the forest floor. As the brothers stood together, each holding onto the other, Sesshoumaru's found his legs and balance, and stood carefully on his own. He gave a thankful glance to his brother and followed the hanyou as he leapt from fallen tree to fallen tree until he reached one deeper in the forest of still standing trees and perched on a high branch.
“We're alone now,” Inuyasha said after a moment. “You wanna tell me what the hell that was about.”
Sesshoumaru sat quietly next to his brother and looked down at his claws as he struggled to once again gain control of his faculties. It suddenly occurred to him that his emotions were winning the battle for control when he felt his brother take him into his arms, much as he had done for the half breed when he had come across him when Kagome had been hurt.
The taiyoukai's head was nestled into his brother's shoulder and the hanyou was stroking his hair and growling softly. He had seen his brother's rage, and then his tears and then a lost look in his eyes. It had scared Inuyasha to see his brother this way. His brother was always so strong and unflappable, what had happened to bring him to this state of mind.
“Rin…my Rin was hurt while I was away…She was beaten - viciously beaten for a youkai's - four youkai's pleasures of entertainment.” He was breathing harshly as he struggled for control. Sesshoumaru didn't know which he'd rather do, kill or cry. Part of him wished that Kashu were here right now. The comfort he had found in her arms while Rin had been hospitalized was like none he'd felt before. It felt like his own mother was alive again when he was in her arms. Kagome was truly lucky to have the woman as her mother.
“When I left with Kagome and the kit for my chambers, I found Rin. She was hiding under my bed terrified out of her mind.” He told Inuyasha the story that Rin had told him and looked up when his brother's scent changed drastically. Only now, he was looking into a red eyed full inuyoukai rather than the inuhanyou he'd come to know and love. “Brother?”
Sesshoumaru pulled out of his brother's embrace slowly so that he could look at his now full demon brother. Inuyasha was snarling, his elongated fangs bared and his knuckles cracking. Turning to stare at his brother with his red gaze, Inuyasha gave series of barks and furious growls saying very clearly in inuyoukai *NO HURT PUP!*
In the blink of an eye, Inuyasha had leapt out the tree and was no making his way very quickly to the castle toward the wing that held the guest rooms. Sesshoumaru took off after his brother hoping to catch up with him before anyone else got in the way. In the state Inuyasha was in he doubted he'd be able to stop him from killing who ever got in his path, guilty or not. As much as he wanted to kill the youkai who hurt Rin, he had to go about doing so properly, which meant a formal challenge and a very public and quite literal fight to the death.
Inuyasha burst into the castle and turned away from the guest wing as a familiar scent assaulted his senses. Running on all fours he headed straight for the source of the smell, which happened to be located in Sesshoumaru's chambers. The two guards at the door were no match for Inuyasha and with a glare from Sesshoumaru they both tilted their heads, baring their necks in a show of submission to the enraged and transformed Inuyasha.
Bursting into the room where Kagome, Rin and Shippou lay sleeping. As Maika stood to defend them, Inuyasha growled low and dangerous at what perceived to be a threat. Watching the female closely, he moved to the bed and sniffed at the three sleeping figures, his sensitive nose hovered longer over Kagome as he said *pack female* *pups* and then lay down beside them curling around the two pups and facing Kagome.
Even though Inuyasha had wrapped himself around the sleeping pups, he kept his eyes and nose trained on Maika. Lifting his nose away from the slumbering pups he sniffed the air in the room and looked harder at the bitch who had regained her seat in the chair. She was a few days shy of going into heat and was unmated. She was strong; her warrior status was proof of that. She would make a good mate and a strong mother. The red glow faded from his eyes and his white puppy ears once again reappeared on top of his head, signifying his hanyou blood.
Maika watched this new person with a cautious curiosity. He had entered as a youkai, but now was only a hanyou. This must be the long lost half brother of Lord Sesshoumaru. He was quite easy on the eyes, and unlike some of the other unmated males he scent wasn't turning her away. Many of the unmated males she couldn't even stand to be around, some even initiating a mating challenge with her. She had killed two who had dared not to listen to her rejections. Perhaps this one was different.
Sesshoumaru stepped into the room and looked to his sleeping brother, the change in his blood to youkai and then back to hanyou must have been taxing on his system. Nodding to Maika, he dismissed her but made her aware that she was now the personal guard for Kagome and the pups. She nodded and left.
Moving to the door, Sesshoumaru closed it and made his way back to his bed, climbing in behind Kagome, he wrapped her in his arms, her body still clothed in his brother's haori. It was late in the day, the sun having begun its decent across the sky and the moon beginning to rise and the sky grew colourful and dark. Bringing Kagome up against his chest, he tucked her close and buried his face in her hair. He was tired, they all were, he would make the challenges tomorrow. Tomorrow would be the day of reckoning.
