Kagome looked back at the old well as her mother stood next to the two headed dragon in awe, petting the big heads as the dragon purred its delight. Inuyasha stood next to Tiyeko as the two talked things over as they strapped the bags brought back to the beast's saddle. The miko so longed to jump back into the well and return to her time so that she may hold her children in her arms, her three comrades had had to practically drag her through the well as it was. She had very nearly come to blows about the decision to leave the children in her time, but eventually relented when Tiyeko gave her the look she was sure he learned from Shippou, she never could say no to her kit when he would look up at her with those big green eyes and blink twice at her as he looked at her as though she were the most powerful person in the world.
“Kagome dear I'm sure they're just fine.” Her mother wrapped her arm around the girl's shoulders and gave her a one armed hug. “Jii-chan will take good care of them, I'm sure of it. They'll also have more time to spend with Souta now.”
“I know Mamma,” Kagome said sadly as she looked down the old well. “I just miss them so much already and I worry about them,” she turned to look at her mother more fully. “Is this how you felt every time I'd leave to come here?”
“Yes, though I understand now why you always missed being here. It's so beautiful here, so peaceful.”
Kagome laughed lightly, “Oh just wait till we travel and run into youkai after the jewel shards. You won't think it so peaceful then.”
“Kagome! Inuyasha!” Sango called out as she came running to them.
Kagome, Inuyasha and Tiyeko all did double takes as she and Miroku came running up to them, Kirara by her side in her fully transformed form.
“Sango, you're human,” Kagome said in confusion.
“I know, It was weird, when we were fighting that youkai in the village that highered us to rid them of it, they paid far over what we would ever ask by the way. But once the youkai was fought to a stand still and Miroku opened his wind tunnel, when he released the wind tunnel we both turned back to being human. I don't really understand why. It seems so weird that it would happen like that, but it feels right somehow. The weird thing though…”
“Wait a minute there's something weirder?” Inuyasha asked the taijiya.
Sango glanced at the hanyou and then continued on, “the really weird part is that although we're both human now, I know, deep in my bones I know, that we both have the life span that we would have had had we remained youkai.”
“Really?! Oh Sango that's great!” Kagome said and embraced her friend.
Miroku came up to join the hug and unnoticed by all, he once again let a wandering hand drop down to both bottoms of the girls. Sango slapped him with a cry of `Hentai!' but Kagome simply pulled away not saying anything. His touch brought back a flash of what she had woken to when Hojou had attacked her and of what the boy had done the first time to her. She was about to open her mouth to say something when her own voice rang through her head don't be a drama queen Kagome, Miroku always does that you don't need to freak out, it doesn't matter where he puts his hands.
She smiled a bit shakily and welcome them both back before introducing them to her mother. Sango was the first to move and suddenly and very quickly engulfed her mother in a strong embrace, wrapping her arms around the woman and crying into her shoulder and Kashu returned the embrace and stroked the girl's hair.
“I'm sorry,” Sango whispered into her shoulder through her silent tears. “It's just that if you only knew how many times you brought me comfort…”
“But dear we haven't met before,” Kashu said softly into the girl's hair.
“No I know but…Kagome gave me a spell sketch of you that she took with her flash box. My family's all gone, I had to bury them and it makes it hard for me to talk to people about what I feel sometimes. Kagome knew that and gave me the small painting of you; she said that you could be my mother too and that if I ever needed to talk to someone I could talk to you.” Sango didn't end the embrace but pulled back just enough to remove the bent and somewhat crinkled picture of Kagome's mother from the folds of her kimono, holding it in her hands she showed Kashu the picture. Kashu remembered when that picture had been taken; she had asked her to pose for it as though she were to be greeting her from being gone a long time. Her arms were held out in a welcoming invitation of an embrace and her smile was soft and motherly. Sango sniffled back a few tears, “I've talked to you so many times at night. I know I haven't really said anything to you, but I have talked to you, and ummm - Kagome said that, that you could be my mother too…”
Kashu wrapped the girl back up in her arms and held her close, “Of course dear.” She petted Sango's dark locks. “If you ever need to talk you come find me ok?”
“Yes, yes I promise I will. Are you…are you sure you don't mind?” Sango asked and Kashu pulled back just enough to cup Sango's face in her hands and look deep into her brown eyes.
“What mother minds talking to her daughter?”
Sango choked out a sob and once again held fast to the woman and cried into her shoulder once more. “I'm sorry,” she mumbled.
“Don't be dear. Don't ever be sorry for tears, they're a sign of trust and of love.”
“What?” the taijiya asked as she pulled back and looked into the woman's eyes.
Kashu smiled softly, motherly, and said, “A lot of people are afraid to cry in front of others. Crying with someone means that you trust them to comfort you in your time of need, and not betray you for showing that you need comfort.”
Sango smiled softly as the woman wiped away her tears and Kashu suddenly felt a small weight on her shoulder and a small soft furry head nuzzling her neck.
“Now who's this?” she asked with a smile as she brought the two tailed cat down to hold in her arms.
“This is Kirara. She's my dearest friend and my fighting partner.” Sango stroked the fur of the kitten's head.
“But she's so tiny, how can she fight?” Kashu asked and Kirara leapt out of her arms to move a few feet away. Once she was at a good distance the fires consumed her and she transformed into her full state. “Oh my,” Kashu said as she took in the near horse size cat with the two long fangs.
She opened her arms and Kirara walked up to her. Kashu bent her head and kissed the feline on the dark star upon her head. Kirara pushed her head into the woman's stomach and nuzzled her as she purred with delight. She scratched behind the giant cat's ears and another hand rubbed underneath her chin and soon the big cat had fallen to ground enjoying the petting to much to want to stay standing. Kashu and Sango laughed and Sango looked between her and the feline.
“Would you…would you like to ride with me back to the palace? She's safe I promise,” she hurried to say.
“I'm sure she is dear. I'd love to.”
Kashu found herself in an unusual twin embrace of Sango's arms and Kirara's head nuzzling her stomach. She smiled and petted both females.
“We really should be going,” Tiyeko said, though he didn't really wish to break the happy moment.
“Ok, yeah,” Sango said pulling back from Kashu and fully breaking the embrace. “Miroku you ride on Ah-Un ok?”
“Yes don't worry koishii I'll be fine with the dragon.” He walked up to Kashu and took her hands in his and old familiar smile gracing his features. “Beautiful lady, would you consider bearing my child? - Ow.” Sango's Hiraikotsu met with his head, though softer than usual the impact still hurt. “My dearest Sango-”
“Lecherous monk,” the girl said although amused, some things would never change and for that she was grateful - though annoyed. “I'm your wife if you'd kindly remember.”
All present including Kashu laughed, the woman having been told by her daughter what Miroku was like. She and Sango mounted Kirara, while Miroku, Inuyasha, Kagome and Tiyeko mounted the dragon and they were off. Kagome sat behind the three men on the dragon, not wishing to be between or in front of them. She had been doing a good job, she thought, of not letting the others see how much it still bothered her to be touched, even by family and close friends. She had never truly dealt with or gotten past the first attack Hojou had made and now visions of the old attack and the new one were constantly running through her mind. Miroku's not so innocent touch earlier had nearly been enough to make her scream in fright, but she knew it to be him and bit her tongue to keep quiet. There's no need to be a drama queen, you're fine, the voice in her head rang out berating her.
They arrived at the castle in due time and Kashu marveled at the beauty of it. Upon entering they all gathered in Shinta's healing quarters where Kagome's eyes fell upon Maika. In that moment Kagome made a silent decision to stay quiet. Look at what she's been through. You heard what Shinta said. What right do you have to be upset, it's not like you were actually raped or anything. She was, so stop being a baby and help her. It doesn't matter what happened to you, it doesn't mean anything. Besides, you're still breathing right?
She stepped out of the room silently, unnoticed by the others present and found Inuyasha about to greet her mate. She stepped up and embraced the taiyoukai cutting off what Inuyasha was going to say before he could.
“Hi Sessh. Guess what?”
“Hmm?”
“We brought Mamma back to help with Maika. She's gonna be here for a while.”
Sesshoumaru smiled softly, although he wished the reasons for her visit to his home were better, he was glad she was there. No one could comfort like she could, and he had missed the human woman that had somehow adopted him and his brother into her family, even before he had mated her daughter. He kissed Kagome's hair and stepped into the room to greet the woman, as Inuyasha turned to look at his friend.
“Kagome why didn't you tell him?”
She knew what he meant and there was no sense in playing dumb. “Because right now Maika needs our help. She's your mate you should be worrying about her.”
“I am worried about her, but I'm also worried about you,” why wouldn't she say anything?
“I'm fine Inuyasha. Now go attend your mate, I'll be in in a little bit.”
“Where are you going?”
“Back to my room so I can change. Now go,” she pushed him to the door and watched as he walked into the room holding Maika and the others.
He'd stay quiet for now, but if she didn't tell his brother what happened eventually, he would.
