Chapter 6: Who is She?

Sesshoumaru turned his gaze away from the woman and looked at the others to see as if time had stopped for they all stood rooted on the spot unmoving. They were extremely quiet as they watched the both of them. Sakura looked as though as she was frozen as she stared at the woman and then at Sesshoumaru wide eyed.

Are they going to fight? Sakura wondered slightly scared for the woman. She had seen Sesshoumaru in combat before and she knew that no one can beat his skills.

However, she was taken even more by surprised when that woman walked over to Sesshoumaru and flung her hands around his neck. Rin's and Jaken's mouths dropped opened as they stared at the scene.

"Sessy, I miss you so much." The woman said.

Sesshoumaru frowned looking at the woman before him. "My name is Sesshoumaru, not Sessy." He said calmly in his deep emotionless voice and moved his eyes back to the others.

He could see that they were all staring at him wide eyed, rooted on the floor. He was pretty amused by Sakura's face however. Her face looked so much like a blooming red rose now as she stared at the both of Sesshoumaru and the woman. He could tell that she was stunned beyond words.

But why is she blushing? Sesshoumaru thought as he pulled away from the woman's embrace.

Sakura could feel heat rushing up her face; it is not that she was angry. It was more like suddenly thinking that she was the one who had flung her arms around Sesshoumaru… Quickly as the image came to her head she shook her head vigorously.

Baka! Baka! Baka! She thought to herself shutting her eyes knocking her head with her knuckles.

Sesshoumaru raised an eyebrow when Sakura started to hit her head and turned away from them.

"You hadn't returned to your palace for along time Sessy." The woman said now grabbing on his arm not wanting to let go. "I had been waiting for you day and night for your return until I couldn't wait no longer so I came to look for you."

Sakura turned back to them. A palace? She thought. So Sesshoumaru had a palace. So why doesn't he return to his palace? And who is this woman?

"I have things to take care of." Sesshoumaru said indifferently pulling his arms away from her grip and walked away from her.

"Sessy…" The woman whined trying to grab his arm again but failed when Sesshoumaru moved away from her and she nearly stumbled.

Sakura had to bit down her lower lip to stop herself from laughing at the scene. She inclined her head as she looked at Sesshoumaru who seemed to be studying her.

There was amusement in her eyes, Sesshoumaru thought. But why?

The woman came again trying to grab Sesshoumaru but her gaze fell on the girl in front of Sesshoumaru instead. She frowned at Sakura.

"A filthy human," The woman said angrily taking out a short dagger like sword behind her back. "What are you doing with my Sessy?"

Sakura took a step back and Rin hid behind her then. What the hell? She thought angrily, for being called a filthy human but also slightly frightened at the dagger that was now pointing at her. Not fair! Her mind screamed. I don't have a weapon to defend myself.

But before that woman could do anything, Sesshoumaru caught her wrist swiftly stopping her. She turned to Sesshoumaru in surprised but her anger faded off as she stared into Sesshoumaru's beautiful golden eyes and swooned forgetting about Sakura.

Sakura sighed with relieve inwardly. That was close! She thought and picked Rin up into her arms when she felt the little girl pulling on her skirt.

"Who is that woman?" Rin whispered to Sakura.

Sakura shook her head with a shrug holding Rin close to her.

Even Rin had only whispered, the woman however caught the question and turned back to them angrily but arrogantly.

"How dare you?" She exclaimed. "I am the Inu Youkai, Xiaran, Sesshoumaru, Lord of the Western Land's fiancée."

Sakura's and Rin's mouth dropped opened. They looked at each other and then back at Xiaran.

Fiancée? Sakura thought astounded.

Will she be my okasan? Rin thought in dread.

Sesshoumaru watched Sakura's flabbergasted face and then Rin's. Somehow they were not related, he could see how identical they look right now.

Like mother like daughter? Sesshoumaru shook his head slightly pushing the thought away. That can't be.

"Please to meet you Lord of the Western Land's fiancée." Jaken said kneeling down on his knees.

Sakura stood her ground with Rin still in her arms and she stared back at Xiaran confidently. She staggered when she felt Jaken's staff hit her feet painfully to make her kneel as well. She got back her balance and glared down at Jaken giving him a kick swiftly up his butt.

"What was that for?" Sakura shouted at him.

"Baka, she is Sesshoumaru-sama's future wife, kneel down." Jaken whispered angrily.

"NO," Sakura cried. "I never kneel down to anyone except my parents!"

Xiaran took at step closer to Sakura studying her as she glared back.

Sesshoumaru raised his eyebrow slightly at Sakura's brave performance. The things she do to surprise him can never end.

"Let's go," Sesshoumaru finally said turning away from them before anything else can happen. "Sakura, Rin, Jaken."

Turning her head sharply away from Xiaran, Sakura walked away following Sesshoumaru, pretty glad that he finally mentioned to move on though not showing it. Jaken got up to his feet and quickly run over to Sesshoumaru's side.

"Ah nor…" Jaken asked. "What about Xiaran-sama?"

Sesshoumaru ignored the question and walked on.

Xiaran was seething inside as she watched the group walking away from her. She cursed inwardly when she watched Sakura placing Rin on Ah Aun safely as she took hold of Ah Aun's reins and started following her Sesshoumaru.

Watch it girl, she thought maliciously. You are just a filthy low level human. You will pay for traveling around with my Sessy…

Sesshoumaru knew what Xiaran was capable of doing; he doesn't want to see Sakura being hurt not by Xiaran or any other Youkai. Not knowing where this feeling had come from he shoved it off his mind. He moved his eyes behind to see Sakura following not far behind from him pulling on Ah Aun's reins. She was listening to Rin as she chatted happily on Ah Aun and slightly behind them was Xiaran throwing atrocious glares at Sakura. He didn't like her look one bit. Slowing down slightly, he let Sakura catch up with his pace as they both walked next to each other.

Xiaran growled softly to watch her Sesshoumaru walking next to Sakura. Filthy human! How dare she walk next to my Sessy…

Sakura, felt very uncomfortable to be watched by both sides. She knew Xiaran was throwing livid glares at her behind and Sesshoumaru was watching her in front. She became even more stiff when out of a sudden Sesshoumaru was walking slightly next to her. Trying to cover her uneasiness, the easiest way was to just listen to Rin's stories about her life with her parents and brother.

"My brother always made Rin cry," Rin said cheerfully. "But he is a very good brother of course. He takes good care of me like you, Sakura-neechan."

"Arigatou, Rin." Sakura smiled; glad to hear Rin liked her so much.

"Sakura-neechan," Rin called softly.

"Yes, Rin?" Sakura answered equally as softly.

"What about your family."

Sakura remained silent suddenly her face glassy.

Sesshoumaru turned his eyes towards her to watch a dark shadow clouding over her.

"They are…" Sakura opened her mouth. Until now she still couldn't face it. She sighed out loud then looking down the ground. Taking a deep breath she looked up cheerfully at Rin. "Well, I'm sure they are happy together right now!"

Rin blinked her eyes, not understanding what Sakura meant. And why does her smile look so phony somehow?

Sesshoumaru however smelt a very faint tint smell of saltiness from her.

Tears? He wondered as he stared at her. But there were no sign of tears at all.

My family? Sakura thought looking down the ground again. If only I was in Nagoya… but why must I be in New York at that time?

She shut her eyes tight shaking her head slightly. Not aware of where she was going she stumbled on uneven ground and thought that she was about to hit the ground, when a strong arm encircled her waist. She opened her eyes to see Sesshoumaru holding her close to him. She blinked as she stared at his charming golden pair of eyes and blushed.

Baka, why must I blush now? She thought in dismay.

Sesshoumaru let go of her slowly and walked on. "Be careful." He said softly though emotionlessly without looking at her. He was taken by surprised on how powerful her scent had overwhelmed him.

"Arigatou…" Sakura replied quietly looking away from him too.

Why must I be so red now! She thought dreadfully again.

Why did I catch her? Sesshoumaru thought. I would have just let her fall, but I don't want to watch her fall…

Frowning at his own thoughts he stopped walking looking at the horizon, they had walked for almost the whole day and night was coming. He looked around the forest clearing and heard that there were river close by. Rin could be able to catch fish when she is hungry. A good place to rest, he thought.

"We rest here for the night." Sesshoumaru said and walked to a nearest tree to sit down.

"Hai, Sesshoumaru-sama." Jaken said and turned to Sakura.

"You can tie Ah Aun up next to Sesshoumaru-sama." Jaken ordered.

"Why don't you do it?" Sakura retorted, as for she hated people to command her to do things.

"I need to go collect fire woods." Jaken snapped. "You don't want to freeze do you?"

He then disappeared behind the thick trees as Sakura frowned after him and stuck out her tongue at him. Rin had jumped off Ah Aun running over to a patch of daisies growing not far away. Taking a deep breath she brought Ah Aun to where Sesshoumaru sat. She knelt down next to him as she tied Ah Aun's reins to the tree.

Xiaran was beyond herself then as she had seen how Sesshoumaru had safe Sakura from falling, and how close Sakura's body was to her Sesshoumaru. She was shaking with fury. She stormed up to Sesshoumaru now trying to get his attention. She pushed Sakura away roughly.

Sakura landed on her side painfully as she glared at Xiaran. Moh, what is her problem! She thought as she got up to her feet brushing the dirt off her legs and skirt when she noticed a scratch at her thigh. Blood was actually sliding down her leg towards her socks.

Great now I'm going to have blood stains on my white socks! She thought angrily.

With one last angry glare at Xiaran she walked away, and settled herself a distance away from Sesshoumaru like she always did. She took off her shoes and then her socks. Taking a handkerchief out from her bag she started to dabbed her wound.

Sesshoumaru was still filled with Sakura's scent when he settled down, he liked her scent very much as he inhaled softly so that she couldn't hear it when she was next to him tying Ah Aun, but he came back to his senses when Xiaran came and pushed Sakura away. Choking down his anger rising up quickly he turned to look at Sakura's furious face. He then caught the scent of blood.

She is hurt… Sesshoumaru thought and frowned slightly. He then saw her leg bleeding when she stood up. Angrily he turned to look at Xiaran who had settled herself next to him and rest her head on his furs.

"Why did you do that?" Sesshoumaru asked indifferently.

"She was bothering you." Xiaran answered simply. "You don't like humans anyway. Why do you care?"

Sesshoumaru remained silent. That is true. He thought. I dislike humans, so why did it bother me so much to see her hurt?

He moved his eyes over to Sakura who was dabbing her wound, still looking enraged.

Damn that Xiaran. If I get my hands on her, she is dead. Sakura thought. I wonder why is she Sesshoumaru's fiancée anyway? She is horrible!

"Daijebu, Sakura neechan?" Rin asked squatting next to her looking at the wound.

"Daijebu," Sakura smiled. "It is just a scratch."

"Sesshoumaru-sama said that there is a river not far off," Rin said. "Do you want to come with me to catch fish?"

"Will love to," Sakura said getting up collecting her shoes and socks in one hand and the other holding Rin's hand. "Let's go."

"Hai," Rin exclaimed happily and they walked away from Sesshoumaru and Xiaran.

Xiaran smiled spitefully.

Finally we are alone. She thought she turned to Sesshoumaru looking up at his expressionless face.

"Sessy…" she whispered seductively leaning even closer to him but Sesshoumaru stood up abruptly making her upper body drop to the ground.

"You should be going home," Sesshoumaru said tonelessly and walked away.

Xiaran punched the ground with her fist angrily as she watched Sesshoumaru walking towards the direction Sakura and Rin had gone.

That human scum, she is going to pay! Xiaran thought maliciously. I will get rid of you once and for all!

Sakura was washing her sock and her handkerchief at the bank while Rin stood in the middle of the shallow river trying to catch fish. She didn't even notice that Sesshoumaru had come up behind her until Rin cried.

"Sesshoumaru-sama!" Rin exclaimed cheerfully waving her hand. "You came to watch Rin catch fish?"

Sakura froze on the spot for a second before she got on with her task like nothing was bothering her.

Why is my heart beating so fast when he is around? Sakura thought miserably. Baka Sakura! Baka!

"Daijebu?" She then heard his deep calm voice, she gulped.

"Ha…hai…" Sakura stammered not looking at him.

The moment was interrupted by Rin much to Sakura's gladness.

"Sesshoumaru-sama, look!" Rin cried wadding over to the bank quickly with two fishes in her hands. "I caught this for Sakura and Rin!"

Sesshoumaru remained silent.

"Arigatou Rin!" Sakura grinned at the big fish Rin had caught. "You are really good at this!"

"Well, oniichan thought me how too, that is why." Rin grinned back. "What about you? Do you have an oniichan too?"

"No, I have a little sister like you," Sakura smiled.

"Honto?" Rin exclaimed. "I want to meet her too…"

Sakura's smiled wilted then staring at Rin. "Let's go see whether Jaken-sama had collected the fire woods." She said then quickly changing the subject.

Rin blinked looking at Sakura's gloomy face wonderingly.

"Daijebu?"

"I'm fine Rin," Sakura got to her feet and collect her wet socks and handkerchief in one hand and the other holding her shoes as she quickly walk away without glancing at Sesshoumaru as she passed.

"Sesshoumaru-sama, why is Sakura-neechan so sad?" Rin asked looking up at him.

Sesshoumaru watched Sakura walking away. There was the smell of that slight saltiness again from her. He narrowed his eyes watching her.

"I don't know…" Sesshoumaru answered. "Let's go, Rin."

"Hai…"

This girl curious him more and more the longer she stayed with him.

For laughs

Ray: (Yawn, reading through her chapter) I hate editing…

Sakura: You have to make my life miserable huh? First an annoying toad, now a bi… (Looking down at Rin who looked up innocently at her wide eye) well a female dog…

Rin: What is a bi?

Ray: *Laughing…*

Sakura: It's nothing Rin, don't worry about it. (Answered sweetly)

Xiaran: You dare to call me a bi…

Ray: Shhhh, Rin is here. Besides you are, you know. That word signifies a female dog.

Rin: (Getting slightly annoyed) What is a bi?

Xiaran: Well, your sweat Sakura-neechan was using a foul word.

Rin: She did not! (Answered angrily)

Xiaran: She did too (Just as angrily)

Rin: Did not

Xiaran: Did too.

Sesshoumaru: (Suddenly appearing) Don't you think you are acting very childishly?

Xiaran: (Swooned) Sessy…

Sesshoumaru: (Ignored her and turned to Sakura) Let's go Sakura.

Sakura: (Blushed) Er… where?

Sesshoumaru: Anywhere to be alone. (Turned to Ray) Ray baby-sit Rin for me.

Ray: Why me? (Looking at him unbelievably)

Sesshoumaru: (Raised his claws in front of Ray's face) You were saying?

Ray: Ha… hai I will love too. (Sweat drop) Sesshoumaru-sama.

Sesshoumaru enclosed his arm around Sakura's waist and in lighting speed left.

Xiaran: SESSYYYYY!!!!!!!

Ray & Rin: (Placed their hands over their ears)

Ray: (Carry Rin up and put her on her lap after Xiaran stopped howling Sesshoumaru's name) So Rin want to help me on the next chapter?

Rin: Hai, make Sakura-neechan my okasan. (Smile cheerfully)

Xiaran: Don't you dare! (Taking out her dagger)

Rays: Do you want to be deleted from the story?

Xiaran: (Sweat drop and remained silent)

Ray: Good (Smiles and got on with her work with Rin still on her lap)

Hehehee… *Evil Grins* I know, I know you all very anxious to know when Sesshoumaru will reveal his interest to Sakura and when Sakura will do the same. Its coming, its coming. Am I going too slowly? Well, please R&R to tell me! Be very glad to know what you all think.

Well, for now what do you all think Xiaran will do to Sakura? Hmmm…. Next chapter, `Unforeseen Portent'
