Good Day, Good Bye, Good Riddance

Ayame sighed as the minutes ticked by, she had come at twilight to meet this Koga from the Takashi clan, but a specific time had not been decided.

She flinched as a whirlwind came into view and then was at her side in about four seconds flat.

“I was starting to think you wouldn't show.” She sat down and leaned against the tree trunk.

“I always keep my promises.” He smirked.

“Why did you want to see me again?”

“No real reason.” He plunked down next to her. “Maybe just because being in your company is nice?”

She blushed greatly and thanked the gods that it was too dark for him to see, even with demon eyes.

“So Kagome…”

“What about her?”

“She like the arrangement?”

“Hates it, and it all got worse when she learned he was from the Takashi clan.”

“Same for Inuyasha, he's trying to figure out how to ditch her.”

“Ditch her?! Well, at least Kagome's willing to try. I don't know how much that actually means, but willing to has got to count for something.”

“Maybe, do you think she'll like him eventually?”

“If he's nice to her, then yeah.”

“Oh boy.”

“What?”

“You've never heard his nickname? Inuyasha, the king of the bad tempered folk?”

“Oh jeez.” Ayame said quietly. “Kagome doesn't take to kindly to being treated as if she were a `common work girl', as she puts it.”

“Then I think we have a problem.”

“Yes.” Ayame agreed.

“Do you think that Kagome would be interested in a non-royal bodyguard if she and Inuyasha don't work out?”

Ayame turned to him. “Oh, you… like… Kagome?”

Koga nodded and Ayame felt her heart sink for some reason.

I've only known him for a day, less than a day! So… why do I care?

“I don't know, her mother probably wont let her get out of the engagement, so I doubt it.” She felt her blood beginning to boil.

“Oh, that sucks.” He sighed.

“Doesn't it just.” Ayame asked, trying to minimize the anger and sarcasm in her voice.

“Well then, I'll see you soon; actually, really soon.” He got up and dashed off into the woods.

“Yeah, and it's too bad we do.” She muttered and leaned back against the tree.

Morning

“Kagome,” Lady Higurashi reminded her daughter as they were being escorted to the great hall with Rin and Ayame by them. “do not say anything what-so-ever that is even remotely rude to him.”

“Fine.” Kagome muttered; she had found out from Ayame that the son's name was Inuyasha and that she would have to be very patient because he was the king of being bad tempered.

I can do this, and I will start nothing, he'll have to be the one to start something before I say something rude.

Inuyasha's Room

“Well.” Koga paced the room again, reporting what he had found out about Kagome. “She's got wavy black hair, good Miko powers… I think that's all. Oh, her name's Kagome.”

“Hmph.” Inuyasha snapped.

“Don't you dare act like that after I spent the entire day running around for news for you, pup.” Koga snapped back, making Inuyasha glare at the wall.

“Lord Inuyasha.” Myoga hopped onto his shoulder. “The girl is here, I thought you should know. Now, I think you should thank me.” He hinted and prodded Inuyasha's skin a few times before biting him and sucking a few drops of blood; Inuyasha flicked him back out the door.

“You ready? You're mom wants you to come down now.” Shippo walked in and sat down in the chair next to Inuyasha; Miroku followed close behind.

“You know…” Miroku smirked. “you could still take me up on that offer and I could just borrow some of your clothes for a few days.”

“Your mother says now Inuyasha.” Hokaku and Ginta poked their heads in the room. “She also says that Koga is ordered to drag him down here if he doesn't come down on his own.”

Inuyasha started muttering inaudibly, but got up anyway and stomped down the hallway; his mother gestured for him to sit in one of the chairs at the banquet table and he did so while trying inconspicuously to break the chair, Lady Takashi gave him the evil eye, and Koga moved to stand behind him with Shippo.

“Ma'am?” Ginta poked his head through the large double doors.

“You may see them in now.” Lady Takashi smoothed her kimono again and smiled at the door, Ginta nodded and ducked back out. A few minutes later, Gozu and Mezu, the undefeatable guards of the doors pushed them open.

“Lady Higurashi and Lady Kagome.” Ginta announced.

A woman walked in and bowed at Lady Takashi, who bowed her head, then gestured to the chair at her right. Two girls walked in next, one wolf demon with red hair and one girl with a small side ponytail.

That cant be her. Inuyasha looked at first the wolf demon then the human girl. And the other one is too young, that cant be her either.

The wolf demon stepped off to the side while the human girl stepped forward and pulled out the chair for someone, as she stepped to the side, she revealed a beautiful girl in a red kimono with wavy black and a very strong Miko aura around her.

She's… beautiful… well, pretty; she isn't that good looking. Inuyasha tried to keep his face straight.

God, couldn't anyone have told me he would've looked like Adonis? Well, he isn't that good looking... he's all right. Kagome took her seat across from him, keeping her face perfectly straight.

“Kagome.” Lady Takashi smiled at her. “I would like you to meet my son, Inuyasha.”

They both nodded at each other, then looked away again, Lady Higurashi sighed.

“Inuyasha, perhaps Kagome would like to see the gardens.” Lady Takashi hinted.

“They're right through those doors.” Inuyasha nodded towards the back wall were two large crystal doors led to the gardens, Koga rolled his eyes and fought the urge to slap his forehead while Ayame fought her growing urge to go over there and punch Koga for using her last night.

Rin glanced at all the people in the room, the guards, the fiancée, the mother, the bodyguard, and the baron.

He's young for a baron. She noted. His parents must have died for him to have taken over for such a young age, and… he's cute.

Shippo looked around at the people Kagome had come with; his eyes locked with the duchess for a second before she looked away quickly, blushing.

She's cute, really cute; I wonder what her name is; she must have been orphaned too like me, because she's a duchess at such a young age.

“Inuyasha.” Lady Takashi said patiently. “Why don't you go and show Kagome the gardens? I'm sure she would love to see them.”

“I'm afraid I don't really feel like a walk in the gardens right now, but she's welcome to go.” He kept his face straight, and Koga fought the new urge to drag him outside by his ears and beat him to a pulp; if Inuyasha did something wrong, Koga was always the one who took the heat from Lady Takashi for some reason.

Kagome felt her spine heating up, something that happened when she got mad. What is his problem?! I've done nothing to him! What a nice way to start off the engagement you jerk!

“That's quite alright Lady Takashi, I can show myself around the gardens.” She smiled while ignoring Inuyasha completely.

“Kagome.” Lady Higurashi warned.

“Inuyasha.” Lady Takashi whispered.

“Kagome.” Ayame said.

“Inuyasha.” Miroku snapped.

“Kagome.” Rin said quietly.

“Inuyasha…” Shippo warned.

“Inuyasha.” Koga hissed.

“Alright, fine!” Inuyasha stood up suddenly and grabbed Kagome's hand and dragged her outside.

“Hey, what are you doing?!” she yelled, pulling back; but since half demons are a lot stronger than humans, she might as well have been pulling against a freight train.

Ayame hesitated before running after Kagome to make sure she didn't get hurt, Koga was right behind her, running to catch up with Inuyasha.

“I think that went well.” Lady Higurashi smiled at Lady Takashi, who nodded back; Rin and Shippo shared an unsure look before Rin blushed again and they both glanced away.

“Shippo, why don't you show Lady Rin around the gardens too? You two are going to be spending a lot of time together from here on out, so you should get to know each other.” Lady Takashi turned to him.

Shippo nodded and bowed, holding out his hand palm up like he was taught to act around a lady; Rin blushed, but placed her hand on his and stepped out the crystal doors with him.

“Now why can Inuyasha act like that?” Lady Takashi asked partly to herself and partly to Lady Higurashi.

“And why cant Kagome be as agreeable as Rin?” Lady Higurashi sighed.

“Well I suppose I better see about the preparations for the banquet.” Lady Takashi stood.

“I'll go with you, we'll know if there's a problem too, because Kagome can be very loud when she's mad.”

Lady Takashi chuckled and led the way to the Banquet Hall.

Outside

Inuyasha dropped Kagome's hand the second they were out of sight of their parents and the two immediately jumped to the farthest sides of the stone pathway.

“Just to clear things up, this is my mom's decision, and I would have nothing to do with it if it was up to me.” Inuyasha said.

What is with him?! He can't even try? Al least I was doing that. “It was my mom's decision too.” She snapped.

Jeez, what's with her? She acting like she'd rather I died than even be standing here with her. “I'm so sorry I'm a half demon.” He snapped sarcastically.

“Excuse me?” she said, unbelieving.

“Maybe you'd like me better if I was a human, but I'm not, so doesn't that just bring on the end of the world for you?” he yelled.

“What kind of person do you think I am?!” she stepped in front of him and turned to stare him in the eye.

“Obviously someone who hates half demons, because you cant stand being around me!” he yelled into her face, but she didn't back up the slightest.

I was willing to try! I was going to try to see your personality before making judgments; you were the one who had to act as if you hated being around me first!” she stepped towards him.

He took a step back at her sudden outburst and advance. “Well at least I don't need to get physical when I'm mad!”

“Don't need to get physical?” Kagome laughed. “You dragged me out the door when people were yelling at you!” she turned on her heels and stormed away. “Good day Inuyasha!”

“Good bye!” he yelled after, letting on heavily that in his opinion she wasn't going fast enough.

“Good riddance!” she yelled over her shoulder, Inuyasha snarled.

Ayame slapped her forehead and ran to catch up with Kagome while Koga sped up so as to walk next to Inuyasha.

“That was smooth.” Koga said sarcastically.

“Shut up.” Inuyasha said, speeding up to get away from everything.

Three Rows of Flower Bushes Over

Rin bent down to smell a Zenfilia flower that was in full bloom, trying not to blush at the fact that the baron, Shippo, was watching her.

“So,” he began. “I noticed that you're a duchess a quite a young age, fourteen or fifteen?”

“Fourteen, I was orphaned by bandits, they killed my family and I took over being the duchess of the Higurashi clan at 8. What about you? I'm not the only one around here who looks a little young for their position.”

He smiled. “I'm sixteen now. My mother died before I was 4, well, four in human times, I was about 20 in years. And my father was killed by demons when I turned 25, or five in human ages.”

“Wow, you took over when you were 5?” she asked sympathetically, wincing mentally.

“It's not so bad.” He assured her.

“I thought I had it bad, but if you were only 5, then it must have been really hard.”

“A little, but it's really fine.” He said again.

“Ok.” She took his hand and continued to walk, too embarrassed at what she did to look at him, he stared at her back before smiling. This girl was sweet, understanding, strong, yet in need of protection; she was perfect.

But what if we can't be together because I serve the Takashis and she serves the Higurashis?

“Hey, um, well…” he stuttered, she stopped and finally turned to look at him. “I was wondering if you would give me the honor of dancing with me tonight at the banquet. Lady Takashi is holding a surprise Ball before hand for Kagome and Inuyasha, and I was wondering if you would like to… you know…”

“Sure.” She smiled widely at him, the turned as she heard Kagome and Inuyasha shouting at each other, then Kagome stomp off, leaving a smoking Inuyasha.

“I suppose I better go after her.” Rin said sadly.

“But I'll see you tonight.” He reminded her.

Rin nodded and then dashed off after Kagome and Ayame, Shippo watched her disappear through the rose bush maze entrance before turning on Inuyasha, grinding his teeth and telling himself over and over to stay calm as he walked slowly over to his friend.

Rose Bush Maze

“Kagome, wait up!” Rin raced after her friends.

“He accused me of hating him just for being a half demon!” Kagome screamed.

“He… he… what?!” Ayame yelled, Kagome had to one of the kindest people she knew, and this jerk accused her of doing something she wouldn't do even if her mind had been wiped and she was being raised over again by an evil demon.

I tried, he had to be the one to say that he wanted nothing to do with me! What kind of idiot starts of an engagement they can't end like that?!”

Kagome finally stopped running and sat down on a bench; the three were by now so far into the maze, they would have to use Ayame's nose to get them back out.

“Kagome, just try again.” Rin sat down on her right.

“What?!” she screamed.

“Just try! It'll totally catch him off guard and he'll have this small amount of time when he sees you for who you are, not what family you're from! Trust me. The baron, his name is Shippo, and well…” the rest of her words came out in such a rush, it sounded like one huge word. “I wasn't meaning to have anything happen, but he was really nice, and it caught me off guard and I looked into who he was, and I…” she couldn't finish or meet her friends' surprised eyes.

“Did you fall in love with the baron of the Takashis?” Kagome started laughing, making Rin look at her with a more shocked and betrayed face then she thought was possible.

“I'm so jealous!” she yelled all of a sudden, making Ayame, who was the closest to her, jump.

“You get to choose who you want to love! And you're not forced together with someone who hates every cell in your body!”

Rin face turned sympathetic, and she sat down by Kagome. “Just try, once more. Be really nice, it'll surprise him and he'll accidentally let his guard down and show who he is, and he'll see you for that time too.” She reassured her friend.

Kagome sighed, but nodded. “Alright, tonight at the banquet, I'll try.”

Rin struggled to keep her face straight and not burst out laughing, suddenly remembering the surprise Ball Lady Takashi and Lady Higurashi had planned; she quickly whispered it in Ayame's ear when Kagome stood up to head back, emphasizing that it was a surprise Ball, now she wasn't the only one fighting to keep a straight face.

Ayame led the way back with her nose, and all the way up to Kagome's room with it too, her room was the one with the most recent scent in it; it had new everything, from the bed sheets, to the bed it self.

The girls had barely been talking a few minutes before someone knocked at the door. “Come in.” Kagome called.

Ayame recognized the wolf demons that stepped in, they were Hokaku and Ginta, although they didn't see her as she was sitting on the loft bed that was cursed to the wall at the top of the room.

“Lady Higurashi would like you all to wear your best gowns for the banquet, she also says for you to be on your best behavior because there will be another family visiting tonight.”

Kagome nodded and shuffled through her trunk until she found her best flowing black silk kimono, covered in gold and silver silk stars, Rin also picked out her best kimono while Ayame stuck to the code which most bodyguards would follow and simply picked out her fanciest wolf skins, elegant, but still suitable for fighting.

“Why are we dressing up like this if it's just a banquet with another family?” Kagome muttered, Ayame and Rin shared a look then shrugged when Kagome looked at them.

“Maybe it's a really important family?” Rin offered, biting her lip so as not to laugh.

“Maybe.” Ayame agreed.

“I'm just going to go change, then go talk with my mother.” Kagome slipped out of her first kimono and put her best one on, then she stepped quietly out of her door just to smash into Inuyasha.

“Ow!” he yelled, but caught her out of instinct before she fell.
“Oh.” She said into his chest, shocked at how close she was to him; he froze too.
He jumped back so far he was pressed against the wall.

“I-I'm sorry.” He said, not meeting her eye.

“No. I-It's ok, really.”

“I meant about earlier.” He muttered; Kagome's eyes shot up, but he was looking to the side of her head.

“That's still ok.” She said again. “I'm a little freaked out now too, and… I don't think your bad and I most certainly don't hate you for being half demon. I think we could actually be nice to each other if we let our guards down that are keeping our personalities hidden… so…” she took a deep breath. “…so that's what I'm doing, I'm letting my shield down for you.”

“O-ok.” He said. “You were going down stairs?”

“Yeah, I was going to ask what the dressing up was about.”

“Me too, um… I'll walk with you.” He grabbed her hand and dragged her down the hallway.

“I can walk you know.” Kagome muttered and picked up her pace to match his step, and sighed in relief when he finally slowed down.

Inuyasha stopped at the double doors that lead to the top of the stairs in the Grand Ball Room.

“You know, we could still back out of this; because if we're going to get married, I don't want to hate each other for the rest of our lives. You've heard my views, I'm freaked out, but more than willing to do more than try, so what are yours?”

“Fine, sure, whatever, that works for me too… let's go.” He shoved the double door open, a small smile on his face as he looked at her; she returned the smile, then looked into the Ball Room; her jaw hit the floor as she saw what was at the bottom of the stairs.

Inuyasha turned in confusion and stood stalk still before storming down the stairs. “What the hell is this?!”

“Oh! Inuyasha! I… you're supposed to be in your… what are you doing down here?” Lady Takashi sputtered.

The ball room had been decorated as if the ruler of all Japan was visiting for that night; bouquets of purified and demonic flowers hung everywhere, tables were set up at every wall, covered in food, all of the crystal windows were open and the twilight sun was streaming through them.

“Kagome! You aren't supposed to be down here until dusk!” Lady Higurashi said as she caught sight of Kagome at the top of the stairs, Kagome just stood motionless, her eyes flicking around the room.

“Lady Takashi, it's polite to tell your family your planning something for them.” A tall man said with a joking tone of voice, he had long black wavy hair and a woman with white hair on his arm, she had long black priestess robes on and a shell shaped gold jewel at her widow's peak, Kagome noticed the glint of snake's skin her left eye.

“Naraku,” the woman purred. “I clearly remember Lady Takashi telling us that this was a surprise party for her son.”

“Ah yes, she did, didn't she?” Naraku smiled.

“Inuyasha, this is Lord Naraku and his wife Lady Tsubaki.” Lady Takashi said nervously.

Inuyasha bowed, but didn't stop glaring at his mom, meanwhile, Kagome still hadn't moved a millimeter.

“And this is their son: Lord Bankotsu, and their daughter: Lady Kikyo.” Lady Takashi gestured to a handsome young man and his twin sister Kikyo, and beauty with her long black hair and her uninterested expression.

“Lord Inuyasha.” Kikyo said and nodded her head politely; Bankotsu did the same; Inuyasha nodded back.

“If you and your mother would like to settle this matter, we will just wait in the gardens.” Lady Tsubaki said in and overly sweet voice, then walked out the crystal doors Inuyasha had dragged Kagome through earlier, their children right behind them.

Kagome turned and walked back to her room, unnerved by Tsubaki and Naraku; Tsubaki was a dark priestess that had made a pack with a demon, it saturated her aura; and Naraku was a half demon, but what bothered her was that he had been eyeing Inuyasha the entire time as if he were trying to hypnotize him or evaluate him.

Inuyasha watched her go, gave his mother the evil eye, then stormed up the stairs.

Lady Takashi rolled her eyes. “He'll be down when he gets hungry, in about and hour or so.”

The servants laughed and went back to work setting things up.

Outside, Lady Tsubaki had walked into the Rose Maze while still clutching Lord Naraku's arm. “These are nice lands.” She approved.

“It's too bad Kikyo isn't the one engaged to Inuyasha, our family would be the strongest dynasty in all history and futures to come.” Naraku agreed.

“Perhaps we could arrange and engagement.” Tsubaki purred.

“Yes… Kikyo, Bankotsu, come here.”

The two teenagers ran to catch up with their parents, and looked on intently.

“Kikyo, what did you think of Inuyasha?” Naraku asked with a smile.

“I think he isn't worthy of being the heir of such power.” She said in a monotone voice.

“And what did you think of Kagome?” Naraku addressed Bankotsu.

“I think she's quite pretty, but needs someone strong to keep her in her place.” He smirked.

“And how does an arranged marriage sound?” Tsubaki asked.

“If there's something good in it, and we wont have to keep the spouse alive for long, the I have nothing against it.” Kikyo smirked next, catching on to what her father and mother had planned.

“Then it seems we have something do discuss with Lady Takashi.” Naraku smirked.

***I AM NOT A KIKYO HATER!!!***

**I ONLY NEEDED SOMEONE THAT WOULD GET IN THE WAY OF INUYASHA AND KAGOME!**

**I DO NOT HATE KIKYO! REPEAT: I DO NOT HATE KIKYO!!**
