Of The Little Girl

One-Shot

This is Steffanie (Gothika-who-luvs-Inuyasha) bringing you another story. This is my first one-shot. Please be nice to it. It came from sudden inspiration from the songs The Little Girl by John Michael Montgomery, and Hurt by Johnny Cash.

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha, The Little Girl, Hurt, John Michael Montgomery, or Johnny Cash.

On a bright sunny morning a beautiful baby girl was born. The woman smiled as her newborn daughter was placed in her arms.

“Kagome…Hello…I’m your Mommy. Sorry that Daddy couldn’t be here today…He was really sleepy. But don’t worry; he’ll be here to pick us up in a few days. The doctors have tests they want to run on you first…Bye sweetie!” She watched as, once again, her daughter was taken from her grasp.

She ran her shaking fingers through her hair.

Kagome flinched as she heard another punch thrown. All her life, this was all she had ever known. The beatings. She knew not why her mother took them.

She turned the volume up on her cartoons, hoping to tune out their words. She shuddered in fear when it hadn’t worked. She heard the front door slam and ran to her parent’s room. She knew her mommy would be here. She always was after their ‘talks’.

She watched as tears rolled in torrents down her mother’s bruised cheeks. She watched as she stuck the familiar needle into her arm; puncturing the skin. As she watched in morbid fascination, a song played in her head.

‘I hurt myself todayto see if I still feelI focus on the painthe only thing that's realthe needle tears a holethe old familiar stingtry to kill it all awaybut I remember everythingwhat have I become?my sweetest friendeveryone I knowgoes away in the endand you could have it allmy empire of dirtI will let you downI will make you hurtI wear this crown of thornsupon my liar's chairfull of broken thoughtsI cannot repairbeneath the stains of timethe feelings disappearyou are someone elseI am still right herewhat have I become?my sweetest friendeveryone I knowgoes away in the endand you could have it allmy empire of dirtI will let you downI will make you hurtif I could start againa million miles awayI would keep myselfI would find a way…’

‘What had that man’s name been? I remember I watched the movie about him…Oh yeah…Johnny Cash! His song reminds me of Mommy when she does this to herself. Hell, she did it when she was pregnant with me!’ She glowered and ran back to her couch.

Shortly after, she heard something very out of the ordinary…Her father returning home…And he sounded pissed.

She covered her hands over her ears after she had safely crawled behind their couch. She squeezed her eyes shut and hummed to herself as she rocked back and forth.

Her blood ran cold and her eyes snapped open.

‘If there is such a thing as a God up there…Please, God, don’t tell me what I think happened…just…’
To confirm her sinking belief, another gunshot rang through her home.

She turned towards their window, shocked beyond tears. Something she never thought she would see was there.

They looked heavenly. The sun was glinting off their long silver tresses and their golden orbs bore into her own.

Her last coherent thought before everything went black was, ‘There is a God?’

He mentally cursed himself. He had heard gunshots coming from the house he was walking by. He walked towards one of the windows and saw the huddled form of the small girl behind the couch. In all of his sixteen years, he had never seen someone as sad as this girl. He crashed through the window as he saw she had fainted and grabbed her small form. He hugged her close to his chest as the putrid smell of sulfur filled his senses. His eyes darted to the kitchen; a fire had started.

He ran as fast as he could from that place, with the little girl in his arms. He slowed to a walking pace, as to not draw attention to himself. He stopped and stared down at her as she mumbled and her eyes fluttered open.

“Where am I? What’s going on?!” Her eyes darted to the unfamiliar surroundings. He set her down on her feet and kneeled in front of her.

“Shh…It’s okay little girl. You’re safe with me…I saved you…” Her eyes widened as memory of her parent’s deaths flooded her mind.

“Noo! It can’t have happened!” She flung herself on him, sobbing heavily onto his shoulder.

“Shh…Little girl…Tell me your name…I’m Inuyasha.” She sniffled, her tears had subsided, for the time being, but her face stayed buried in his shirt.

“K-Kagome.” She hiccupped and clung tighter to him.

“Shh…It’s okay, Kagome. I’ll take care of you.” He pulled her into a tight ‘I’m-here-for-you’ hug and lightly kissed the top of her head.

No one had ever hugged her before, let alone kissed her. She silently hoped that things such as this would happen often. In her eleven years, she had never gotten a single hug or kiss, until this boy that had saved her life. She had never been shown compassion…Nothing but hurt.

“Kagome…” He looked into her eyes. “I promise I won’t let anything bad happen to you.” He could tell that bad things had happened, which was probably why the gunshots and the fire. He himself had no parents and knew what this girl would be going through in time to come. His heart leapt out to her.

“You promise?” Hope filled her eyes.

“I promise. Now come on, we have to get some food in you. You’re nothing but skin and bones.” He took her hand and led her down the sidewalk.

He was true to his word. The girl never knew hurt as great as she had during her first eleven years ever again. She was showered with hugs and kisses from the boy; enough to make up for all the ones she had missed from her parents. The girl truly believed, from that point on, that there was a God out there; one who had brought Inuyasha to her.
