Shanghai in Fall
The air was getting slightly cooler and the air less balmy. I was thankful for the change but my nemesis Lord Chen was getting on my last nerve. We had minor skirmishes but no battle. He was playing at guerilla warfare and it seemed the theme of no killing was going to be continued. My soldiers referred to the Byakko as shadow cats. They were striking us and disappearing. I grew frustrated at my lack of progress.
Naraku decided to take the opportunity to spend time with Mizuki at his castle in the North and I had brought the pups to the Shanghai Palace. I stalked the library and Yuudai was watching me amused. I growled at him and he snickered.
“We have been here for weeks and they refuse to face us!” I lamented.
“Why can you not enjoy the lull in the intrigue and relax?” He sighed.
“Because I wish for this to be over. If they had shed some real blood then I could move against them with major force! I will not be the one to start an all out bloody war!” I said forcefully.
“I say enjoy the respite and quit wearing a hole in the floor.” Yuudai stated.
“I am going to hunt. I can at least get some of this restlessness out.” I said.
“Do you want me to come with you?” he asked.
“Maybe next time. Just in case anything does happen we need at least one of us here.” I said moving closer to him.
“Please take care chuusin.” He said ghosting his lips along my neck.
“I shall.” I sighed in pleasure.
He released me and as I walked away he slapped my backside. I chuckled and went out into the palace grounds and transformed. I sauntered into the forest and sat back on my legs. I scented the air and faintly scented many things. I moved along as I got deeper into the lush forest I thought I smelled Byakko. I growled softly and moved swiftly. I transformed and moved with stealth. Prince Quon was out and about again. I moved on his location and jumped up into a tree. He was not aware of me and it seemed that he too was hunting. I watched with interest and found myself fascinated with the silver tiger prince. I jumped down silently and came upon him and pushed him.
“Damn it!” he yelled.
I snorted and crossed my arms over my chest. It was a specialty of the uppyr to be able to completely mask their auras and scents. I was chuckling and he looked down right furious.
“Thank you very much! I was hunting and I am technically not on your territory.” He snapped.
“Hai but you are spying again.” I said amused.
“I swear I will take your next kill and laugh at you!” he snarled at me.
“You are too serious. How is it you go through life so austere?” I asked smiling.
“How is it you can go through it so whimsically?” he asked.
“Well I have faced enough death and I have decided to try and avoid it as much as possible. It hurts terribly to watch a mate die.” I said seriously.
“That is why you are playing cat and mouse versus overt war.” He stated.
“Who said that?” I said smirking again.
“Who have you lost?” he asked.
“I am not discussing my personal life with the enemy. It matters not they are dead.” I said moving away.
“This is the first time I see you as something other than a cold hearted bitch!” he snapped at me.
“Well sometimes it is better to be cold hearted then to have to have it broken over and over.” I snapped back.
He moved over to me and held my shoulders and made me look at him. I growled at him and he leveled me a stare.
“Who?” he demanded.
“Sheng and Tekeshi. I have managed to loose four pups. There you go.” I said looking away.
“Were they not both of Manchuria?” he asked softly.
“I have no wish to discuss this any further.” I said furiously.
“I have touched a nerve.” He said.
“Go hunt elsewhere.” I demanded.
“I will hunt where I please.” He retorted.
I was furious and went to lash out. He caught my hand and kissed the top of it. I jerked my hand back and stared at him.
“You cannot stand your own medicine?” he asked flippantly.
“You wanna play with me little boy?” I asked dangerously.
“Oh the big puppy is pissed off.” He taunted me.
I stepped back and the winds roared around and I transformed into my true self. I glowered down at the Byakko and stepped forward; my claws landed right by him.
“Is this supposed to frighten me?” he said smirking.
I growled quite loudly as the Byakko Prince had grown a pair. I leaned my muzzle down and knocked him back with my nose. My claws started to glow green and he stepped back. Great winds roared around him and a blue aura erupted around him. In but a few moments a great silver tiger stood before me. He was stunning; his fur seemed stretched over his taut heavily built body. I glared at him and he roared.
-Here kitty, kitty! - I pathed into his mind.
He cocked his massive head to the side and stared at me. He was at least perceptive. Some youki were as silent as a rock when it came to telepathic abilities. He sprinted forward and knocked me over. I threw him off and swiped my paw along his forepaw. He let out a small roar and fell back. I got to my feet and moved toward him. My jaws snapped and I almost got his leg. I charged him and pushed him forward. He claws gouged the ground and he pushed back. He swiped my muzzle with his front claws and I yipped in severe pain. His claws seemed to hold his shoki at all times where I controlled mine. I refused to resort to my toxin. I snapped my fangs and caught his ear. He growled and I released him. I moved fast and latched onto his leg. I had a firm grip and shook my head violently back and forth. He released a sort of strangled roar and he swiped my haunches. I let go and let out a tremendous yowl. My backside felt so cold it hurt like hell. I moved back and transformed. I laid on my side and blood dripped from the claws marks that went across my lower back all the way to the back of my thighs. The cold was dreadful and I shook. He transformed and came closer to inspect the damage.
“I did not use my Dakkasou!” I accused him.
“I cannot control my shoki in my true form.” He said coming closer.
“Do you carry the antidote?” I said physically shaking.
“Yes but…” he started to say.
“Use it! I did not use my toxin on you!” I snarled at him.
“I am sorry!” he snapped.
“I am pupped and if you hurt my pup I will kill you!” I snarled at him.
He carried the antidote within his saliva and I knew he would have to lick the wounds. He bent down and closed his eyes as if in prayer and went to work of neutralizing the shoki. The cold slowly eased as he laved his tongue along the wounds. I closed my eyes and the wounds would need to be tended to. He sat back after several minutes and I pointed to my nose. He climbed over me and looked very uncomfortable. His tongue darted out and ran along the claw mark on my nose. He pulled back and his cheeks were stained red.
“Is it customary for all Byakko to carry their shoki so near the surface?” I asked.
“Yes. I am surprised you can control yours.” He said softly.
“Something we have to learn quickly. Our toxin is highly acidic and rather deadly.” I said wincing.
“I had not intended to injure so badly.” He replied.
“Well unless you have hidden miko powers then I need to be seen by a healer.” I said rolling to my stomach and pushing myself up.
His claws were even sharper than mine and more curved. I wanted to wring his damn neck. I looked at his leg and it was bloodied where I had bitten him. He actually helped me up and there was an awkward silence. I turned my head and Quon backed away. I transformed into my sphere and took of for the palace.

Guilt ate at him and he reversed his course. Feline scratches could easily become infected and she was pregnant. She was still in pain. He could move very quietly but he needed to make sure she did not catch a fever. He sighed and wished she had just stayed in the Western Lands. There were some large trees around the Shanghai Palace and he jumped up into one. He saw her change back into her humanoid form and she walked rather stiffly. A silver haired male came out and the aura of fury was evident. He figured that was her mate and could see his obvious anger. He could handle the dog if need be. Knowing the male inu temper towards protecting their mates this one would come after him. He watched as he kept his aura sealed; it took a huge amount of yoki he saw the inu couple move back into the palace. He was right and the male inu came back out but this time he had armor on. So the dog was going hunting. The inu moved but was followed by several more inu soldiers. He waited till they were gone and jumped onto the palace roof. He cursed himself; he just had to know she did not get sick because of what he had done.

I was lying on my stomach as Mayu applied a stinging liquid to the wounds.
“Filthy felines!” she muttered.
“Mayu, I did not think you held prejudices!” I said laughing.
“My poor girl. Hai I am all inu my Lady. Stupid tigers.” She cursed.
My head turned and I could swear I felt the aura of the Byakko Prince. Mayu finished up and I nodded to her.
“Could you see to the pups and I will see them in a little while?” I asked.
“Hai my Lady.” She said bowing and left the room.
I waited several minutes and I looked around. My whole back was bare and I wondered what Quon wanted.
“I feel your presence. I suppose you are allowing me to feel it. You may come out.” I said softly.
Quon appeared in my window and looked utterly embarrassed. He entered and turned his head. I could feel his utter mortification.
“What are you doing here?” I asked.
“To make sure you do not get infected. I know you are pregnant and I never meant harm to befall you like that.” He said.
“Look at me Prince Quon.” I demanded softly.
His eyes met mine and his cheeks burned redder. I watched him and his eyes quickly roved over my backside.
“Why does this embarrass you?” I asked.
“I do not know.” He stated.
“You do know. I have teased you because your innocent nature is charming. I like you even if you are a Byakko.” I said smiling.
“Even if I am a Byakko? You are a damn dog!” he retorted.
“Assure yourself I am well and go ahead and go. My mate was most displeased and intends to find you. I have no wish for further violence.” I stated closing my eyes.
“I am not innocent inu. I just try and live my life with honor and dignity. What you tease is my modesty and nothing more.” He said coming closer.
“Alright you are not innocent and just modest. Now we have that stipulated you may go.” I said wincing as he touched a deep gouge.
“I am sorry.” He whispered close to my ear.
“It was a battle. Battles have wounds.” I murmured.
He kissed the back of my neck and I shivered. I did not move and his lips were soft as he placed small caresses. My breath hitched and he pulled away.
“Again I am sorry. Kamis help me but I actually like you too.” He said climbing up into the window.
“I imagine I shall see you and wonderful family again.” I said raising my brow.
”That you can count on.” He said then jumped down.
”That you can count on.” He said then jumped down.
He continued to try and be honorable. I shook my head and sighed. Yuudai would come back not having found the tiger and be in a cross mood. I fell into sleep to allow my wounds to heal.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM div>
His mate shivered violently. He pressed a cool cloth to her head and Mayu looked terribly worried.
“Some of the shoki must have entered her blood stream General Yuudai. This is terrible for the pup sir.” Mayu fretted.
“Tell me what to do Mayu! I will do as you say. Naraku needs to be here; what do I do?” Yuudai fretted.
“Shezmu-sama? He can teleport and he stays in Jining.” Mayu said.
“We have to go now. How long can she sustain the pup in this condition?” Yuudai asked in fear.
“A day or two.” Mayu said quietly.
“Damn it!” he cried.
“He has sensed her in the past; maybe he will this time?” Mayu said rhetorically.
“Can you wake her? She can reach Naraku if you can make her lucid.” Yuudai suggested.
Mayu went over and whispered in her ear. She shook her hard and his mate opened her feverish eyes. They were glazed over and Yuudai sat by her.
“Chuusin it is Yuudai. You must contact Naraku; please call to him.” He said urgently.
“My fault.” She whispered.
“Chuusin please it is your karuson. Call to the hanyou.” He urged.
“Naraku? He is not a hanyou.” She said confused.
“Call for him chuusin. Call to Naraku. You need him my love.” Yuudai said in a raised voice.
“Naraku?” she murmured.
She passed back out and Yuudai laid against her against the head roll.
“How soon could he be here?” Yuudai asked Mayu.
“A matter of minutes.” She mumbled.
“I am sending a runner to Jining.” Yuudai said standing.
He left the room and hurried to the study. He sensed an aura and went in search of it. Naraku stood there confused and Yuudai looked up and thanked the Kamis.
“You heard her?” Yuudai asked.
“Barely. I always feel her much stronger. I would have been here sooner but I had to drop Mizuki to Augusta.” He said.
“She is sick. She caught a fever after a battle with a Byakko.” Yuudai stated.
“What?” he thundered.
“She is not responding to the medicines and Mayu does not know enough about the Byakko shoki.” Yuudai admitted.
“Who did she fight?” Naraku demanded.
“We are not sure. She just said she ran into one. Come please.” Yuudai stated.
Naraku dogged his heals and they entered Asuna's chambers.
“Lord Naraku!” Mayu cried in relief.
Naraku watched his beloved mate flushed with fever and mumbling incoherently. All knew that fever was bad in general but it could end a pregnancy quickly.
“You want me to go to Hunan and drag a fucking Byakko back here because I will.” He said in fury.
“A healer would be better.” Mayu suggested.
“I will be back shortly.” He said.
Naraku disappeared into his miasma; Yuudai stared at Mayu and they looked down at Asuna.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// /////////////////////////////////////////////////
Naraku appeared in the middle of the tigers' territory and moved quickly. He would bring a healer then kill it. He would not lose his mate and pup to a fever! He looked around the city and found the biggest building. That should be the palace or at least someone important. He took to the skies with a miasma cloud and landed gracefully in the courtyard of the dwelling. He saw a Byakko soldier and his limb morphed into a bone like appendage. He wrapped it around the tiger and smirked with malice.
“Take me to your leader.” He demanded.
The Byakko nodded dumbly and Naraku withdrew his limb. He squashed his tendency for violence and tried to keep his temper. He followed the silver tiger into the building and he was brought into a lovely dining room. There sat the Byakko Lord himself.
“I swear you make one move towards me I will release my miasma and kill everyone in this palace. One of your flea bitten fur balls infected my mate and you will uninfect her!” Naraku threatened.
“Who are you?” The Byakko Lord asked in a fury.
“I am Naraku.” He said narrowing his mahogany eyes.
“Lady Asuna is your mate I assume?” Chen asked.
“She is and she carries my child. I am not as forgiving as my mate and I have been known to tear individuals apart.” He said dangerously.
“I was unaware she had battled one of my Byakko. I respect the Lady but really you should deal with it.” Chen said smirking.
Naraku erupted a tentacle around a female Byakko's throat and squeezed.
“You let my mate die then I will go through this building killing every female I find!” Naraku sneered.
“Let her go!” Chen snarled.
“Then send for your healer or the pretty kitty gets it.” The dark youki stated viciously.
Chen nodded for the soldier to go get the palace healer. Naraku kept his tentacle wrapped firmly around the female Byakko. The Byakko Prince walked in and his silver eyes widened.
“Father?” Quon asked in concern.
“This creature is the famed Naraku my son. Our nemesis had fallen ill after facing one of us. Do you know anything about it?” Chen asked.
“No Father I do not. The Inu Princess has fallen ill?” Quon asked concerned.
“That is what your Father just said moron.” Naraku sneered.
Quon looked at the dark youki and watched the tentacle appendage wrapped around the throat of his brother's mother. She looked terrified but Naraku waited patiently. He had gotten her ill! He cursed himself terribly and his father watched him closely.
“If you release my father's mate I will follow you and bring the healer. On my honor I swear.” Quon said.
“Son no!” Chen said furiously.
Naraku looked at the younger male and wondered what he was up to. He suddenly released the female and wrapped the tentacle around Quon's throat.
“I find the arrangement acceptable. If Asuna should die Byakko then so does your son. A cub for a pup sounds fair.” Naraku stated as his voice was laced with venom.
“You are unlike your mate mongrel!” Chen snapped.
“Hai you are right. Do not mistake the Lady Asuna; I have seen her gut Bai Gu Jing and take down the uppyr ruler Vlad but I am a hell of a lot more volatile then she.” He hissed.
“She killed Jing?” Chen asked in shock.
“Hai melted her heart right in her chest. Why she has been so tolerant of you boggles my mind.” Naraku snapped.
The soldier brought back an older male Byakko and Naraku released Quon. The Byakko prince nodded to the healer and took his arm. He teleported himself and the physician; he was followed closely by Naraku. Cheung ran in just as they all left. He looked at his sire confused and Chen sat down.
“I think your brother attacked the Inu Princess and she is gravely ill.” Chen stated stunned.
“What? Why?” Cheung asked confused.
“We just met one of the most notorious youki in recent Japanese history.” Chen stated in disgust.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// /////////////////////////////////////////////////
Naraku appeared and so did the Byakko prince with the healer. Mayu stood in the hallway and motioned for the healer to follow her. Naraku growled fiercely and followed Quon stayed back a little and slowly moved forward. He needed to give the healer his shoki for an antidote. The healer had been with his family his whole life and his name was Guang. He was ancient and revered. Guang looked over his adversary and she was terribly feverish. Anguish took hold of Quon and he felt terrible. His shoki was released in tremendous amounts in his true form but he never intended for it to harm her. The silver haired inu male stared at him with hatred.
“General Yuudai and Lord Naraku perhaps you should check on the pups. They saw their haha a little while ago and they are frightened. Ang Chi seems most upset.” Mayu suggested.
“Mayu I will stay.” Naraku said flatly.
“My Lord you trust me I know, trust me know. She is like my daughter and I would allow no harm to befall her. I would kill for her; you both know that.” Mayu said flatly.
“Why does the Byakko get to stay?” Yuudai said in anger.
“I believe he will be needed.” Mayu stated softly.
Yuudai stood up and walked by Quon. He glared at him in hatred and Naraku followed the inu a little more calmly. Quon kept his features neutral but he wanted to slash both males to pieces. Yuudai and Naraku left and Quon moved forward. Guang only spoke Min and the Byakko Prince was grateful. He moved forward and released some shoki from his claws into a pestle that the healer had and stepped back.

He moved forward and released some shoki from his claws into a pestle that the healer had and stepped back.
“You did this to her.” Mayu hissed softly.
“It was unintentional.” Quon hissed back.
Guang worked on the antidote and noticed the prince's reactions. They were subtle but the prince was worried sick. He chuckled to himself. This female's yoki was strong as well as her offspring. He had delivered the young prince almost a century ago and knew the cub well. He handed the antidote to the inu maidservant and stood up and away.
“This will ease my Lady and save her pup?” Mayu asked.
“Yes.” Quon answered for the healer.
Mayu kneeled by the low bed and lifted Asuna's head. She poured then massaged her throat for her to swallow. The draught should work in about an hour. Mayu stood and then sat on a cushion and waited for her girl to wake up. She narrowed her eyes at the Byakko and bid them sit.
“Why did you attack her? This is the second time I have had to tend to her because of you!” Mayu snapped at Quon.
“We were in our true forms fighting. She had bit into my leg quite hard and I defended myself. I told her I cannot control my shoki in my true form; no Byakko can.” Quon said in defense of himself.
“You had a long enough conversation to tell her that but you did not try and give her the antidote?” the female inu snapped.
“I thought I had gotten every trace of it out of the wounds! I even came and checked on her after you had left the room.” He said exasperated.
“You checked on her?” Mayu asked shocked.
“Yes!” Quon muttered.
“Why would you do that?” she demanded.
“Because I do not go around fighting nu zi; especially not pregnant ones.” He snapped.
There was silence and Mayu saw her lady twitch a little. She got up and knelt by her and felt the lady's head. It was cooling down. She sighed in relief and put a cool rag on her forehead. She had her barely covered in a silk blanket to keep her warm but not hot. Asuna turned her head and her eyes opened.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// /////////////////////////////////////////////////
My head was pounding and Mayu was right by my side. I motioned for water and she brought me some. She helped me sit up and I noticed Quon and another Byakko. I drank the water greedily and laid my head back against the roll. I turned my head toward the Byakko prince and I smiled.
“So you did try and kill me after all.” I said joking.
“That was not my intention!” Quon said defensively.
“Kamis Prince Quon lighten up!” I snapped.
Quon came closer and I could see his worry. He was not killer. He would fight if necessary but he was like Shezmu; a reluctant warrior. I took his hand and patted it.
“So are you planning a siege or a direct attack?” I teased again.
“My Lady!” Mayu said in shock.
“Mayu I bit the hell out of his leg. I am sure it will leave a scar. We battled; oh well. Quon you had best take your healer and yourself home. I thank you for rectifying this little drama.” I said sitting up.
I noticed Quon swallow and I nodded.
“Tell your Father that I will consider a treaty that gives Hunan exclusive rights to the harbors of Shanghai.” I said.
“Why would you do that?” Quon asked in shock.
“For you.” I said.
Quon stared at me in disbelief and I waved him away. He took the other Byakko and disappeared. Mayu stared at me and I smiled.
“You like him!” she accused.
“I respect him and nothing more. I love the two males that are making their way here as we speak. Say nothing at all about Quon attacking me because I am the one that provoked him.” I commanded.
“Hai my Lady.” She said bowing. Yuudai and Naraku entered and I smiled brilliantly at them. They were both surprised and Mayu stepped out. Both of them looked relieved and came closer.
“You will sleep.” Naraku said.
“As you wish.” I said good naturedly.
“What happened to the Byakko?” Yuudai asked.
“I sent them home. I will hear no more about it. Are you both going to stand there or are we going to nap?” I asked.
Naraku shrugged and came and settled next to me. Yuudai looked at me and he too shrugged.
“You scoot over this time.” Yuudai said.
Naraku chuckled and Yuudai pressed his chest to my back. I pressed my own chest to Naraku's back and I fell asleep rather quickly.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM div>
“She is offering a treaty.” Quon said to his father.
“After her mate stormed in here and nearly strangled Cheung's mother?” Chen snapped.
“Father the offer is a good one and it gives us the harbor we need to anchor our ships. I do not agree with her aggressive actions in Sapporo but she won. I say we sign a treaty and get on with our lives.” Quon stated softly.
“You really are taken with her!” Chen accused.
“I find her attractive as I know you do too. I have come to grudgingly respect her but no I am not taken with her.” He lied.
“I want to see how another week or two plays out. I am curious if she will seek you out to spar.” His father said.
“Father I am sorry but I am done dealing with her. She is a worthy adversary but I tire of the games.” Quon stated.
“You will be done when I say you are done!” his sire snapped.
“Yes sir.” Quon grumbled.
Quon stood up and went to his room. He was glad she was better but he wanted his life back before he met her. He hated dealing with other types of youki and he was starting to WANT to see her. He should never have kidnapped her. He thought she would have been a good bargaining chip in dealing with the inu but she ended up being the commander. He would wait a day or two. She liked the river. He would probably find her there.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// /////////////////////////////////////////////////
I was washing my skin with jasmine soap and I dipped my head back. I brought my head up and lathered it up. I heard my favorite Byakko approaching and smirked. I continued scrubbing my hair and he came to the edge of the forest and watched me silently.
“Did you bring word from your father?” I asked aloud.
“He considers it.” Quon said.
“Hn.” I muttered.
I continued scrubbing till I had washed all the way to the ends. I dipped my head back and rinsed. I brought my head back up and looked at him.
“I do not understand your offer of a treaty.” He stated bluntly.
“What is to understand? I took back what belonged to my daughter and took profit from your lands. You have ships that need to drop anchor somewhere and I can give back a little without real war.” I said.
I pulled myself over the side and he turned his head. I smirked at his discomfiture and stood. I dried myself off slowly and his cheeks were stained red yet again. I leaned down and grabbed my yukata and tied it around my body.
“You can look if you wish. Like I said your attitudes are charming.” I said chuckling as I slipped on my geta.
“Stop it!” he demanded.
“Stop what?” I asked in surprise.
“Stop demeaning me! Stop treating me as if I am a cub.” He demanded.
“I tease you and I do not demean you.” I said offended.
“You do it every chance you get. I am sick of your superior attitude. You dismiss me and tell me what to do! I am your equal in birth and rank. You act as if you own the world.” He stated in a low tone.
“Then if I am that offensive leave.” I said pursing my lips.
“There you go again!” he snapped.
“Look if the treaty idea is abhorrent to you then meet me on a field of battle. Let others die.” I said angry.
“Neither of us truly wants that at all. You know you are beautiful and I can imagine that you are used to every male throwing themselves at you. I will not be one of those males.” He said in defiance.
“You are arrogant to think that I would want you to throw yourself at me as you say. I have no need for you at all. I do not think that I am that beautiful because I can honestly say I know many more bitches that are by far prettier.” I said offended.
We stared at each other and I walked passed him after a moment. I started to stalk towards the palace and he grabbed me and turned me around.
“I will convince my father to accept your treaty. I still think you are a high handed bitch but my people need the commerce that our merchant ships provide.” He stated softly.
“Why did you kiss my neck last time?” I asked him changing the subject.
“I do not know.” He answered.
“You lie!” I hissed.
“No I do not know.” He snapped back.
He pulled me to him and started kissing me brutally. My mouth opened automatically and he delved his tongue inside. His was a little rougher than my own and the sensations were erotic. His lips seemed to massage mine and our mouths seemed to duel for dominance. He slowly withdrew and sucked my tongue for just a second and pulled away from me entirely. I was stunned; he was obviously very experienced and just way too shy. I touched my lips and watched as Quon walked deeper into the forest.
“Wait!” I called to him.
“No. I have done enough.” He grumbled.
I followed him at a distance and he turned and gave me a nasty glare. I was dumbfounded at his behavior.
“You kissed me!” I yelled at him.
“Yes I did. I am done now.” He snapped.
I stepped forward and he put up a warning hand. I stared at him defiantly and grabbed his hand. I brought his palm to my lips and lightly placed soft kisses. His silver eyes were hooded and it seemed he kept his responses in. His cheeks were again stained crimson and I dropped his hand. He slowly moved closer to me and pressed his forehead to mine. I felt his hot breath against my cheek. He was breathing hard and my own was coming faster. I felt a soft caress against my magenta stripes and I lifted a slightly shaking hand to the other side of his face.
“I have to stop this.” He breathed.
“Hai.” I whispered back.
We stood there like that for several minutes and my hormones were going wild. He pulled away slightly and placed a chaste brush of his lips against my forehead.
“I will make the treaty happen.” He forced a whisper.
Quon walked away and disappeared into his icy mist. I had to lean back against a tree and get my bearings. That was the most passion filled moment I could have experienced. He was right and this attraction was nonsense. A treaty would be good and I could go home. I decided to see Akemi and she could shed some light on feline behavior. She should be close to her time of giving birth anyway.
I went to the palace and put on a proper kimono and Yuudai came in. He wrapped his arms around me and I was glad I was part uppyr.
“I am going to the South for a couple of days; Akemi is close to giving birth.” I said.
“You need to see her then.” He stated holding me close.
“I love you karuson.” I said feeling the need to say it.
“Chuusin I love you too.” He said happily.
I turned in his arms and hugged him to me tightly. He seemed more than happy at the closeness and I finally pulled back. I concentrated and used my teleporting ability. I shifted to the Southern Castle and appeared in Akemi's chambers. I prayed she was not engaged with her mate at the moment.
“Asuna?” Akemi said from the doorway.
“Hai!” I greeted.
I was dizzy and sat down in the middle of the floor. She laughed and so did I. She was heavy pregnant and looked miserable. I finally stood up slowly.
“Still working on that.” I admitted.
“I had no idea you could do it.” She said smiling with mirth.
“You are having the kit any day now.” I observed.
“I cannot wait. I walk these halls all day and night.” She sighed.
“They say rutting can bring it on.” I suggested.
“Mother told me the same thing. Daichi has become unbearably obnoxious.” She laughed again.
“He loves you.” I said happily.
“Hai he does and I love him.” She said softly.
“Have you seen the dragons lately?” I asked.
“Hai. They see me as often as they can. He and I were always honest and they know where they come from. They honor their father and my decisions.” She said softly.
“You still miss him.” I said quietly.
“Oh Suna I know you miss Tekeshi terribly. I am so sorry for that.” She said pulling me into a hug.
“I have been managing. I am to bear Naraku a son he says.” I laughed.
“Well what if he gets another daughter?” she asked.
“He will have to endure. Yuudai and I also.” I said looking away.
“Well that was a no brainer. It took you two forever.” She said hitting my shoulder.
“What about mister Egyptian yummy man.” She said excitedly.
“He is something but I am unsure. We run into each other and at others times I do not see him for awhile. It is comfortable that way.” I laughed.
“Well I can tell something is on your mind.” She stated.
“Is Daichi here?” I asked her.
“Hai. I can get him. What is going on?” she asked in concern.
“He is feline and I am playing politics with the Byakko of Hunan.” I stated.
“The fabled silver tigers?” she asked in awe.
“Hai they are very real. I managed to take Sapporo which had belonged to Tekeshi before the One Great War. I have consolidated power in the North and Father will manage it until Hana comes of age. You knew we took Manchuria which of course is where Tekeshi and Katashi both fell. All I have to do is pull together the lands in and around Shanghai for Naraku and Mizuki. We intend to carve out a good territory for the wolves in the East.” I stated.
“What happens when all this happens?” She asked softly.
“Then comes the fun part of managing it all.” I said smirking.
“You wish to have a feline perspective in dealing with the Byakko?” she asked nodding.
“Hai.” I responded.
“Be right back.” She said waddling away.
I shook my head; she was still sweet even in the midst of the end of her pregnancy. I waited patiently for Daichi to come back with Akemi. Daichi appeared in the doorway along with my cousin. He bowed and smiled at me brilliantly. Akemi sat down and so did her mate.
“Lady Asuna. Akemi said you have been having issues with the Byakko?” Daichi asked me in his amazing voice.
“Hai. The Lord's name is Chen Hu. I have mainly dealt with his son; Prince Quon Hu. I am trying to avoid all out war but they are getting hedgy. I have approached Quon about a treaty but I worry about Chen.” I stated.
“My father has dealt with them for years. They are highly honorable. What do you want to know?” he asked me.
“Just tell me feline temperaments and actions. Tell me anything you think may be useful.” I stated.
“The Byakko are not monogamous by any means. Lord Chen is said to have many concubines. They are territorial and very male dominated. The females are subservient to males always. They honor their word once given. I am sure you have noticed they are elemental youki. The taiyouki's of the breed are said to be able to even call upon the natural cold found in nature. They will normally wage war in the colder months.” He said blinking his eyes.
“Interesting. They fight when they can control the weather. The bastards are waiting me out.” I mumbled.
“I thank you Prince Daichi.” I said inclining me head.
“Not a problem Lady Asuna. I hope it works out for you.” He said standing.
I nodded and he kissed Akemi the lips softly and left us. My cousin turned on me and raised an eyebrow.
“You came here for more than that.” She accused.
“I want you to tell me feline mating habits.” I said.
“This Prince Quon?” she asked.
“I have taunted him every chance I get. I thought him inexperienced but I think he is shy like Daichi. We have not rutted and I do not intend to. There is a strong attraction and I want to avoid any further temptation.” I said flatly.
“Why? You should at least once. The rutting is mind blowing.” She stated bluntly.
I about choked and she started laughing. She covered her mouth and nodded.
“Hai. Remember when you asked Sheng about it? Well it is amazing and since they are not overly attached to mates.” She said grinning.
“Akemi I do not need another rutting partner. Just out of curiosity is it true about that herb they call nip?” I asked biting my lip.
“Hai. It drugs them. They act like they have drank tons of sake and they get quite touchy feely. It is hilarious. Why? Are you thinking of drugging a tiger?” She asked.
“I think that would be highly amusing. If anything I can be his friend. He does need to loosen up.” I said smirking.
“I have some. All they have to do is smell it. They become quite high.” She said laughing mischievously.
“Does Daichi know you do that to him?” I asked amused.
“He figures it out later. He gets sheepish.” She laughed.
“Hai I think I shall try it on the Byakko prince.” I said smirking.
“I will get it.” She said.
She went to her armoire and pulled out a tiny drawer. She withdrew a small silk bag and threw it to me. I opened it and scented it. It was strong but did nothing special for me. She grinned as she sat down.
“Just put some on you or leave that bag open a little. Your big kitty buddy will scent it. Their sense of smell is almost as good as inu.” She said snickering.
“Your mother turned you on to this.” I said pursing my lips trying not to laugh.
“Hai. Now it affects all very differently. Daichi gets very silly. He will sit and stare at the wall and start chuckling for nothing.” She said.
“I think this shall be fun.” I said smiling broadly.
“Let me know.” She said.
“I will.” I said hugging her.
I transformed into my sphere and headed to the palace. I was going to have my mother teleport me. I was looking forward to loosening up Quon a little. I smiled as a plan formed in my head.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM div>
I was in Shanghai and I had not heard from the Byakko in a while. It annoyed me but I sent Yuudai back to the North to insure full cooperation of the populace. I was handling state affairs with Ang Chi by my side and he was bleary eyed. My son was working hard to learn all he needed to know. I worked him out in the dojo everyday along with his different lessons. I extended his teachings to include European affairs and history. He would get disrespectful every so often but mostly he was tired.
“I am proud of you. I believe you will be able to handle all this in twenty or so years. I am your regent but all affairs will be made with your knowledge.” I stated.
“I know. It is so much work; I had no idea. May I go to bed?” he asked yawning.
“Hai but first sign these.” I said.
He signed his name on several documents and dragged himself away. My heart swelled with love for the boy and I wish Katashi had taken him in as he should have. I would have adopted him regardless. I had come to love him deeply. I stood and decided to walk along the river. I brought the herb with me just in case. I did not wait long and I was smirking when I felt his aura. I put my hand into an inner pocket of my haori and opened the tiny bag wide open. I saw him further upriver and I slowly walked forward. He lifted his nose and scented the air delicately. I looked at him innocently.
“Do you bring me word from your sire?” I asked softly.
“Huh?” he asked me.
“The treaty I requested. Did you bring word from your father?” I stated trying to keep a straight face.
“Right. Oh yes um. Do you scent something delicious?” he asked looking around.
“No what are scenting?” I asked trying not to bust out laughing.
“I have never scented it before but it is wonderful!” he said moving around trying to identify the source.
“The treaty Prince Quon.” I stated with a neutral face.
“Treaty? Right that is why I am here. What are you wearing? It is you.” He said nearing me.
I shrugged and he looked confused. His eyes were dilated and he was definitely affected. His features were relaxed but he was scenting close to me. I heard a very deep rumbling from his chest and I realized he was purring.
“Are you purring?” I asked amused.
“Yes I think I am. You smell like heaven.” He murmured.
“Prince Quon do you feel okay?” I asked him.
He buried his nose into my shoulder and his purring became louder. He licked along my neck and a small thrill ran thru me.
“Quon please about the treaty. Does your father wish to be my enemy?” I asked him.
“I cannot remember.” He mumbled.
I chuckled and he gave me a lazy smile. He buried his nose again into my neck and he giggled. I was surprised and delighted at his mood. He lifted his head and his face was free from his normal pensive expression. He giggled again and pulled me down. He laid me back and continued to scent me. It was an odd sensation but not displeasing.
“Quon what is going on?” I asked him smirking.
“I almost want to eat you. Kamis you smell like a dream.” He said in a lazy drawl.
His breathing was heavy and he continued to scent around me. He moved my clothed legs apart and scented my groin area. He shook his head and slid up my body.
“Why do you smell so good?” he asked slurring.
“Perhaps it is a new soap for bathing.” I suggested.
“I want some.” He chuckled.
“Maybe we should postpone till you are more in control of your faculties.” I said.
“No! I want to lay here.” He pouted.
“You have never encountered this scent before at all?” I asked surprised.
“No. I wish I had.” He groaned.
“You wish to just lay here and purr?” I asked chuckling again.
“Yes.” He said closing his magnificent eyes.
The thrumming in his chest was loud and he as perfectly content to lay there and do nothing. All I would have to do to win a war against them would be to get an abundance of this herb and watch them roll around on the ground.
“Quon you have no message at all from your father?” I asked him.
“I cannot remember.” He sighed happily.
“Why are you always serious?” I asked him softly.
“Because I have to. How is it you smell so good?” He asked softly.
“I do not know.” I said looking up at the sky.
“No you are intelligent. You know.” He stated in a husky voice.
“It is my secret.” I smiled at him.
“Please tell me.” He whined.
“I told you it must be the new soap I am using.” I said smirking.
He hovered his lips above mine and I held his face. I shook his head no and he started laughing. He was absolutely gorgeous when he smiled. He lay beside me and started playing with my hair.
“What is going through your mind?” I asked him.
“Ideas.” He whispered.
“What?” I asked him.
“How I feel about you. I should hate you. You have managed to turn my world upside down and you smell so damn good!” he growled.
“You kidnapped me.” I murmured.
“Yes I did! I wish I had not. I did not understand how the inu army had a nu zi with them. You know my brother wants to; what did he say? Oh yes he said he would fuck you then kill you.” He said lazily.
“Did he now?” I said suddenly angry.
“Oh do not be angry! You did stab him.” He chuckled.
“I kicked you in the groin.” I said evenly.
“Yes you did and I would have gleefully killed you at that moment.” He said with a frown.
“So you wish you never met me?” I asked him softly.
“Yes. I wish you had just left us alone. I hate myself that I want to see you.” He again said lazily.
“Please go home now. I think maybe you should never come here again.” I said stiffly.
“Why? Because I tell you the truth?” he asked.
“Hai because I am a nuisance to your carefully laid plans but I will tell you that your people settled into they land they had no business in. I took back what belongs to my daughter Hana. She will never know her chichi but she has his legacy!” I said standing.
“Stop being cross.” He demanded.
“I do not hate your family but I like and respect you.” I stated.
“Like and respect! High praise indeed.” He snapped at me.
“Your mind seems to be clearing. Does your father want the treaty or not?” I demanded.
“I think he does.” He said shaking his head.
“I will have a formal treaty prepared and you will never have to see me again. I suggest you stay away from me while I am in Shanghai.” I said walking away.
“You are commanding me again. I am not one of your subjects. I will go where I want and when!” he snapped as he came closer.
His eyes widened as he scented the herb again. I needed to get rid of it and soon. He again came to me and scented my neck. He started nipping at my neck and jaw. I stood there and willed myself not to react. I heard him mumbling and I reached up and held his face.
“This is not what you really want. You wish you did not know me at all. Why not go back to Hunan and sleep.” I suggested.
“I know what I want.” He said softly.
“Quon I am going now. The next time I see you it will be in a formal setting.” I said pulling away.
I bowed to him and turned into my sphere. I went to the palace and transformed back into my humanoid self. I pulled the herb out of my haori and closed it up. I put it away and stripped out of my clothes and put on a yukata. Hopefully his mind would clear and he would go home. I went back to the paperwork that I had left and started reading through reports from all over Manchuria. I was writing lengthy return responses to the various military leaders when I felt Quon at my chambers' balcony. I went into the other room and he stood there. I sighed and motioned for him to sit. He sat and I noticed his tail was twitching.
“Would you care for some tea?” I asked him.
“Yes.” He responded.
I poured him a cup and handed it to him. I poured myself one too and sat opposite of him.
“What did you do to me?” he demanded.
“Nothing.” I said tonelessly.
“I never act like that. I have always been in control of myself.” He seethed.
“Prince Quon, I am tired and it is late. I still have matters that need my attention.” I stated flatly.
“You do not scent the same anymore.” He said narrowing his eyes.
“I have changed clothes. I do not know. Look you have said more than enough already. You really do not want any sort of friendly relationship and I truly do not blame you in that. I know you see my actions as offensive and I would too if I were you. I restored the Northern Lands not for myself but for my infant daughter. Lord Tekeshi was her sire and it was his wish that she rule his ancestral lands. My adopted son Ang Chi will fully take the lordship of Manchuria in a few decades. I do none of this for myself but those who are the legitimate heirs.” I said.
“You took part of my birthright.” He stated bluntly.
“Again it did not belong to the Byakko. It belonged to the black inu.” I too stated bluntly.
“You loved Lord Tekeshi?” he asked.
“It was not a political match.” I replied softly.
“What of Naraku?” he asked too bluntly.
“I have never not loved Naraku.” I answered with narrowed eyes.
“You speak in riddles.” He snapped.
“I have spent not just this lifetime but another being in love with him.” I replied softly.
“You are inu; your choices in mates is different.” He said then sipped his tea.
“I am half inu and half kiang shi.” I retorted.
“So that rumor is true.” He mumbled.
“Hai it is true. What other rumors have you heard?” I asked with a raised brow.
“Your prowess in battle is not exaggerated. They also say you are a very loud lover.” He said boldly.
“Who says that?” I asked surprised.
“Servants have ears inu.” He remarked.
“Have you noticed that you hardly call me by my name but I show you enough respect to address you politely; Prince Quon?” I asked in irritation.
“I had not noticed Lady Asuna.” He retorted.
“Does your father want the treaty?” I asked flatly.
“He wants to meet you in person to hammer out the details but yes he would prefer no war.” Quon said.
“Fine then. I am for bed now. You may stay as a guest or you may leave; do your will.” I said standing.
“I will stay and send word to my father that you will meet with him.” He said standing as well.
“Follow me if you would please.” I said.
“Thank you.” He replied.
I set my cup down and he did the same. I went out of my chambers and led him down the hall and led him to guest apartments. I stood by the door and he went in.
“I met Lord Sheng almost fifteen years ago. He was an interesting fellow.” Quon said turning to look at me.
I knew my face clouded in pain. I lifted my eyes to his and his own expression softened.
“I can only imagine what my beloved was doing at the time. He was rather amorous in his past.” I said softly.
“I believe you are right but my father was impressed with his intelligence.” The Byakko stated.
“Please speak no more of him. I regret many things and he is one of them.” I said tonelessly.
“What happened?” he asked pressing me.
“He was killed by a kiang shi.” I said fighting back tears.
“You loved him a lot?” he asked softly.
“Hai!” I hissed.
“I am sorry for your losses.” He said.
I nodded and turned and walked back to my chambers. I held onto the frame of the doorway and guilt tore through me. Tears fell down my cheeks silently. I intended to go to He Gang and visit his shrine very soon. Hiroto and Kazuo had no real memory of him anymore and I hated it.
“Prince Quon what?” I demanded feeling him behind me.
“I am sorry for pressing the issue.” He stated.
I turned on him and he saw my tears. He seemed stunned.
“Is this what you wanted to see? I too normally hold in my deepest feelings Prince Quon. You have accused me of being cold hearted. I feel just as keenly as any.” I admitted.
“Your house has been plagued with tragedy. I believe I would stele myself against pain too.” He murmured.
“Hai there has been much tragedy. I am tired please leave me in peace.” I said frowning.
“One more question please.” He asked.
“What?”
“If Naraku caused your family so many problems why would you make a mate of him?” he asked softly.
“I have asked myself that question many times and I always come up with the same answer; I was meant to love him.” I said.
“You are more trusting than I would be.” He stated.
“Good night.” I said slipping into my chambers.
He followed me and I looked at him in anger. I recognized the look; he was curious. I rolled my eyes at him.
“What do you want? I suppose this is payback for me pestering you in Sapporo. In my defense I was being held against my will.” I said annoyed.
“Of course you took your kidnapping with such grace.” He said sarcasticlly.
“Fine I am sorry I taunted you. You were too easy though.” I replied.
“Too easy? You take my manners as to be easily taunted?” he demanded.
“When one blushes as easily as you then hai; you are easy.” I retorted.
“You do not know me.” He said stubbornly.
“You are right I do not. You also do not know me although you are trying to remedy that.” I snorted.
“Alright ask away.” He said snidely.
“Why are you always so serious?” I asked him.
“I have always been serious. I do not have a sanguine personality.” He answered.
“Why do you blush so when faced with sensuality?” I asked narrowing my eyes.
“It is only you.” He snapped.
“Excuse me?” I snapped back.
“I have rutted before. That surprises you? I do not speak about it because it is a private matter. You on the other hand allow sensuality to ooze off of you.” He said smugly.
“I allow it?” I asked snorting.
“Alright maybe not allow but you are contrary to everything I know. You are not shy or demure. You command males and fight in battle. You are unafraid it seems. You Lady Asuna I imagine are wanton.” He said crossing his arms.
“I apologize Prince Quon that I do not fall before your feet in supplication. I am sorry that I was bestowed a large amount of yoki. Forgive me for being an onna; I assure you that I am onna.” I said with heavy sarcasm.
“Therein lies my problem.” He said.
“That I am onna? Oh I see you cannot accept that a worthy adversary or dare I say a friend could be an onna.” I said clenching my teeth.
“I should not want to even be friends with you. You moved into my father's city. Sapporo was a nothing village town until the Byakko moved in. We made it into a thriving city.” He accused.
“Go ahead and hate me. I understand why but I am not going to fold and give you the city back.” I said raising my chin.
“Thank you for giving me permission.” He sniped at me.
“If you feel you should dislike me so then do it. You are a warrior; do not second guess yourself or you flounder. If you hate me then strike me down; do not look back!” I growled low in my throat.
His silver eyes widened and he closed the short distance. I thought for a second he would strike but he pressed his forehead to mine as he had done a few days ago. I was surprised and his eyes were closed. He was saying something so softly I did not hear. I thought he said `Kamis help him'. His body was tense and it seemed if he would jump at any second. He lifted a hand and pressed it to my face.
“Quon?” I questioned softly.
His eyes opened and he met my gold-brown ones. His actions spoke volumes but he was fighting the draw he felt as I did. I was mesmerized by the intensity as he barely touched his lips to mine.
“I want you.” He said in a tortured voice.
“Quon I.” I murmured.
He backed away and put his hands to his temples. He watched me and I sat down on my futon.
“Good night. I have been disrespectful; I was brought up much better than this. I will take you up on your hospitality for this evening and bring my father here in the morning. Thank you Lady Asuna.” He said bowing.
“Hn.” I mumbled.
He took his leave and I sat there. I was being ridiculous. I lay down and just stared at the ceiling. I was not going to sleep. Desire was coursing through me and I sat up. I would go to the dojo. I could center myself. I grabbed my fang and went. There was a hanging leather bag and I started kicking the hell out of it. I managed to work out my frustrations and I also fell asleep on the floor.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// /////////////////////////////////////////////////
“My Lady! My Lady!!” I heard as I was shaken.
“Huh?” I asked coming to.
“Are you alright my Lady? Why are sleeping in the dojo?” my maidservant asked.
“I am fine. I was just working out last night.” I said stretching.
“The Byakko Prince left earlier. We had no idea he was here.” Shusin said.
“We are working out a treaty. Speaking of which I will need the palace readied for guests. Has Naraku returned?” I asked.
“Actually yes my Lady. He said he felt you in here. The Lady Mizuki is being reprimanded.” She said sheepishly.
“What did she do?” I asked standing up.
“It seems she may have done some damage to Lord Naraku's castle but she is also throwing a fit.” Sushin said looking down.
“Kamis damnit!” I cursed as I went into my chambers.
Mizuki was in the middle of a horrid tantrum and her yoki was flaring badly. She had put a barrier around herself and as screaming.
“Mizuki!” I said sternly.
“No! No! No!” she screamed.
“Get her!” I said to Naraku.
“I have been Asuna. I cannot get through. She bit me after I told her to quit hitting Kazuo. She has been screaming ever since then!” he snapped.
“Mizuki! Calm yourself.” I demanded.
“No! No! Kazuo hurt Zuki! Kaz mean. Chichi mean!” she shrieked.
“How did she get here?” I asked.
“I am assuming she sensed you. I am rethinking the binding.” Naraku said flustered.
“Mizuki! Haha is here. Lower your barrier and we will talk.” I said to the tantruming toddler.
“NO!” she screamed again.
I channeled my yoki and reached into the barrier and my hand got burnt badly. I managed to pull her to me and she collapsed it. I grunted in pain and Naraku looked very angry.
“Chichi should beat your little butt!” Naraku hissed.
“Chichi mean!” Mizuki shrieked again.
“Mizuki shush. Hahaoya is here. You should not bit your chichi because it hurts and you are supposed to listen to him. Why is Kaz mean?” I asked.
“He say I was half-breed!” she said starting to cry.
“Where would he hear that?” I said angry.
“You are not a half-breed. Chichi is youki the same as haha.” I said lifting her chin.
“Kaz say hanyou. He say that I am not inu and I am a hanyou.” She said with her mahogany eyes full of tears.
“Kazuo needs to be spoken with now!” I seethed.
“Mizuki come here.” Naraku commanded.
She walked over to her sire and he pulled her into a hug. He whispered to her softly and I was furious with my four year old.
“I will summon Tamiko to the West and I will speak with Kazuo.” I said keeping my temper.
“He teleported to the Western Palace. I think we may need to bind all their powers. Hiroto is the only one that does not go crazy.” He said shaking his head.
“He is by far more sensible.” I agreed.
“Come let us get these pups under control. I am dropping you and Mizuki off to your home and I am getting Yuudai. I want him to speak sternly to Kazuo himself.” He said pulling me to him.
Mizuki held his hand and we were pulled into the miasma. He immediately disappeared and I heard screeching from Kazuo. I hurried along and my father was trying to reason with my younger son.
“Your toddler has lost his mind!” he said in disbelief.
“KAZUO!” I yelled.
“Hai haha?” he asked.
“Get over here no!” I demanded.
“Zuki started it! Zuki hanyou!” Kazuo sneered at his sister.
She raised her tiny clawed hand and swiped Kazuo. I put my hand on my son and had to will him to stay and not teleport.
“I am binding their yoki.” I said to my father.
“They are stronger then even you were.” My father commented dryly.
My mother came in and she took Kazuo from and took over using her will to keep him to stay put.
“I have summoned Tamiko for you. Until they get a little older they are dangerous. You are burnt!” My mother observed.
“I put my hand through Mizuki's barrier. She seems to be able to infuse her barriers. She has shoki and is learning how to use it.” I muttered.
My father stared at his grandpup and was shocked.
“Jii-chan mad at Zuki?” she asked tearing up.
“No. Come here.” He said.
Mizuki sulked and went over to my father. He bent down and looked at her.
“You bear my crest and need to act with honor. Burning your haha is not honorable Do you understand?” he said seriously.
“Hai.” She said sticking her bottom lip out.
Mayu came to the hallway and picked up my eldest daughter. She tutted her and hugged her close.
“I would speak with you in a little while Mayu.” I said softly.
“Hai my Lady.” She said bowing.
Yuudai actually came walking in and I pathed to Naraku a huge thank you. He seemed to fill my mind and then receded. He had much more control than Sheng had with his mental abilities.
“Could you speak to Kazuo? They are teleporting all over Japan and the mainland.” I said.
Yuudai would be rather firm with my son. He went over and picked him up and started speaking to him harshly but with love. Kazuo was furious but I kept a firm hold on his teleporting. My son started crying and I followed Yuudai to my chambers. He sat him down firmly on my futon.
“I had to come back here to deal with an errant pup. How mad do you think I am Kazuo?” Yuudai said firmly.
“Mad.” He pouted.
“Why did you call your sister a hanyou? She is a full blooded youki like you.” Yuudai snapped.
“Otooji Jin.” Kazuo said looking down.
I cursed under my breath and I was furious yet again.
“You will go to your Jii-chan and ask what he does to errant little boy pups. If you teleport then I will find you and your bottom will be raw.” I commanded.
“Hai haha.” He said walking away with his head down.
I watched him drag himself down the hall towards my father. Inu were pack creatures and I used all the resources at my disposal.
“I am sorry to have dragged you away. Since Naraku cannot be here I needed your strong presence with him.” I explained.
“I need to go back. Pup needs his backside blistered.” Yuudai growled.
“How well did it stop us?” I said laughing.
“You are right. Time in your father's dojo will be much worse.” Yuudai said grinning.
“I will teleport us back to Sapporo.” I said laying a hand on his shoulder.
I channeled every bit of yoki and we shifted to Sapporo. Naraku was already there. He held me up as a wave of dizziness overwhelmed me.
“I need to work on that!” I muttered.
“Did you get the story?” Naraku asked.
“Jin has been opening his mouth to Kazuo. I will meet with him when I go back to Shanghai this day. The Byakko are signing a treaty tomorrow.” I stated.
“That is good news.” Yuudai nodded.
“Alright. Thank karuson and I will see you soon.” He nodded to me.
Naraku took me to the outskirts of the Western Palace. He lifted my chin and made me look at him.
“You can show affection in front of me. I truly like him. You two need to get over your inu upbringing and deal with our reality. There are too many pans in the fire so to speak.” He said.
“I know you are right.” I said kissing him lightly.
“Thank you for calming her down. I normally can but she was hurt by that word.” He said.
“I know. It will be taken care of.” I stated.
“I am going to help Yuudai. There have been just a few insurgents and I have a feeling the pups are going to act up again.” He said sighing.
“Thank you.” I said with a smile.
He bowed and he disappeared. I walked to the palace and looked down and still wore my yukata from last evening. I went straight to my chambers and pulled out a kimono of black. I put on a yellow obi with it. I had left the Kumosaiga and I picked up my old fang and slipped it into my obi. I walked to the study and Tamiko was there. She smiled and held up several vials of a yoki binding potion I hoped.
“I wondered what took you so long. Mizuki will only grow stronger as well as the twins. All your pups will have tremendous yoki. The son and daughter of Naraku will be the strongest.” She said sweetly.
“So this is a son.” I said looking at my abdomen.
“Hai. A very powerful son. You must be patient with him. If you think little Kazuo has a will then you have not seen anything yet.” She said in warning.
“Great!” I snapped sitting.
“Come let us give your pups a normal childhood.” She said.
I stood back up and nodded.
“A son? Who will he favor?” I asked curiously.
“He will be a blend of you and Naraku. I suggest you try and be home for his birth.” She said.
“Something will go wrong?” I demanded.
“I did not say that. Quit fussing.” Tamiko laughed.
“What about the Byakko problem?” I asked softly.
“That will not be solved in a day. The silver tiger always signals great things.” She said cryptically.
“Do you see these things cryptically or do you do it to annoy people?” I asked in irritation.
“I do what I have to.” She laughed.
We entered the dojo and I called Kazuo over. I handed him the vial and he drank it obediently. He licked his lips and cried for more.
“No this enough for now. Go back to Jii-chan.” I commanded.
“Hai haha.” He said dejectedly.
I went next to the nursery and Mizuki was playing with stuffed dolls. Hana was sitting on the floor knocking down large figures of inu.
“Mizuki come here.” I commanded.
“Hai?” she said coming over.
I handed her the vial and she scented it then downed it. She handed it back and went back to her dolls. I sighed in happiness. Two of my pups at least would not teleport all over Asia.
“I can release their yoki when you wish and in small amounts. They will be much happier as will you. The Byakko are not an issue that will ever really be resolved. There will continue to be tensions but you will have peace for now. The Byakko Prince too will continue to be as you put an issue.” She said to me very softly.
“I do not need another lover Tamiko.” I hissed softly.
“I said he will continue to be an issue. Read into it how you will.” She said softly.
“There is a strong attraction.” I said walking with her.
“There is also a strong rivalry there too. You both are very strong amongst your species. He will grow in power and stature as will you.” She stated.
“I do not understand.” I said shaking my head.
“It is not always entirely clear. Just keep doing your own business.” Tamiko said patting my shoulder.
She walked away and just faded out. It amazed me beyond belief how she managed. I sighed and went in search of my mother.
“Would you care to join me for a treaty signing?” I said linking my arm in hers.
“Hai. Let me tell your father. Shall we bring the pups?” she asked.
“I will bring them tomorrow. I need the rest.” I said smiling.
“Hai I will be right back.” My mother said.
Having my mother by my side would help with the treaty. I shook my head and did not understand how Quon and I would be rivals. I let it go and my mother came back. She held my arm and teleported us to Shanghai.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM div>
I sat at a long table with my mother and Lord Chen and his two sons. There was a small party from Hunan and there was just myself and my uppyr mother. I was sitting back listening to Lord Chen and I was irritated. He was pleasant to look at but very arrogant.
“I am sorry but I could not consent to military vessels.” I stated bluntly.
“Well Lady Asuna suppose I need to move against another state?” he snapped.
“You could also use those same ships to blockade this harbor. I do not think so. The taxes will not be lowered either.” I said looking at him.
“Impudent female!” he snarled.
My mother glared at the Byakko. I had not introduced them at my mother's behest. A servant came in and whispered that Jin had arrived.
-That was quick! - My mother pathed.
-Hai! - I pathed in return.
“Excuse me Lord Chen but I have a visitor than cannot wait. My lady here will speak in my stead for the moment.” I said standing.
“I will only work out this deal with you Lady Asuna; not some handmaiden.” He snapped.
My mother looked at me and me at her and she busted out laughing. I kept my face neutral.
“Impertinence!” Chen growled low.
“I assure you Lord Chen that the Augusta Orlovich; Lady of the Western Lands can speak in my stead. My Lords this is my Lady Mother.” I said bowing.
All three males' mouths dropped open and my mother grinned.
“Come boys let us speak of ships.” My mother said as I left.
I walked into my private study and there stood Jin. He looked stunning and my heart ached because of the resembalance to Sheng. I bowed as did he.
“I had not realized you had Shanghai.” He said impressed.
“I inherited it from Tekeshi. We need to talk.” I said flatly.
“Still as blunt as ever.” Jin smirked.
“Why would Kazuo call Mizuki a hanyou and half-breed?” I asked in anger.
“He overheard a very heated discussion between my cousin and I. My cousin has been punished. Whatever you think of me do not think I would hurt little Mizuki.” He growled low.
“I am relieved. How do you fare?” I asked softly.
“Good enough.” He said sighing.
“I thought you were going to mate?” I asked him.
“I cannot do it right now.” He muttered.
I walked closer and put my hand on his shoulder.
“I am sorry I hurt you.” I said softly.
“Please do not touch me. I still burn for you.” He said bluntly.
I jerked my hand away and sighed. I had made a mess of this relationship and this was probably my second biggest regret. Jin's hand hovered over my shoulder and he grabbed it and pulled me to him. His lips crushed mine and I moaned. His hands were in my hair and I was becoming way too dizzy way too fast. He picked me up and put me on the desk. His lips burned the way down my neck.
“Jin please I cannot.” I said hoarsely.
“You still care for me.” He muttered against my throat.
“I am in the middle of treaty negotiations.” I mumbled.
“Hai ok whatever.” He said kissing my lips again.
My mother knocked on the door and Jin pulled away. I jumped down from the desk and called out.
“The big kitties are getting restless. Hello Lord Jin.” She said smiling.
“Tell Lord Chen I will be there in a few minutes. This is a family matter.” I said.
“Lord Chen of Hunan?” Jin said narrowing his eyes.
“Hai.” I responded.
“Hai tell the Byakko trash that the Lady Asuna speaks with the Lord of Panyu.” Jin said arrogantly.
“As you wish.” My mother said amused.
As soon as my mother shut the door Jin attacked my lips in earnest. I moaned again and tried to push him away. He turned me around and cupped my breasts through my kimono. He knew my body too well and he was right that I did still care for him.
“I miss you so much.” He muttered in my ear.
“Jin please! I thought we agreed I made a mess of our relationship.” I moaned out.
“I want to taste you.” He said nipping just below my ear.
I groaned and I felt Quon approaching; he was angry and determined I could sense.
“Jin the Byakko Prince is almost here.” I hissed.
“Let him hear you moan.” He said huskily.
I felt his fingers brush my curls and his fingertip brushed my nub. I lost all thought and bit back a throaty moan. He inserted a finger into my core and I did cry out.
“Lady Asuna!” Quon called from the door.
“Jin please.” I whispered hoarsely.
“Alright.” He said backing away.
I straightened myself and I called enter. Jin very seductively licked his finger that had been inside of me and I glared at him. Quon watched me and The Byakko Prince knew something was up.
“Hello Prince Quon long time no see.” Jin stated sarcasticlly.
“I thought I scented your foul stench Panyu.” Quon hissed.
“You two know each other?” I asked.
“Hai. Prince Quon and I have faced each other on the battle field. How is your dear old sire?” Jin asked maliciously.
“Lady Asuna I should like if we can finish this along. Your mother is quite charming but she is not the ruler of Shanghai.” Quon said stiffly.
“Asuna I think there is further need to discuss my heir.” Jin said narrowing his eyes.
“I will send Shusin to you to show you guest apartments. I have to finish this Jin.” I said bowing.
I left with Quon and he pushed me up against a wall.
“He took liberties with you. I fight myself and he just takes them.” He hissed.
“We were mated.” I said stunned.
“Well very interesting indeed.” He said angrily.
“How dare you be angry with me.” I snarled.
“I hate him. I mean I really hate him.” Quon snapped.
“Jin was Sheng's elder brother and uncle to my twins.” I explained.
“You owe no explanation.” He said pulling away.
“Then why are you angry?” I demanded.
“Have you seen him in battle? He is ruthless. I cannot see how you have allied yourself with him.” Quon snapped.
“I owe you no explanation. I am sorry that my family business interrupted the negotiations.” I said brushing past him.
I went back into the conferencing room and sat down. My mother had Chen grinning like a fool.
“I have asked your beautiful and charming mother to be my mate but she says your sire does not share.” Chen said amused.
“My sire can be rather fearsome. His fang rots the flesh away from the wounds it inflicts. I suggest never saying anything like that in front of him. If you think me a cold hearted bitch you will find him frigid indeed.” I said coolly.
“I only say it in jest Lady Asuna.” Chen said.
“I understand. My mother is uncommonly beautiful; more so than many. I know many that throw themselves at her.” I said staring at Quon.
My mother looked at me and knew instantly something was going on. She smiled sweetly and looked at me with wide eyes.
“I can see why. One would never know she had birthed four offspring.” Chen said admiring my mother openly.
-What is going on? - she demanded in my head.
-There seems to be something but I know not what with Prince Quon. - I pathed back.
I nodded to Chen as he spoke but kept up a short conversation with my mother in my mind. Quon watched me like a hawk and my eyes would acknowledge the silent questions of my mother.
“Lady Asuna you are telepathic correct?” Chen asked
“Hai Lord Chen. It is something passed on from my excellent mother.” I said
“Fascinating.” Chen said in awe.
“Your oldest son is perceptive.” I said bluntly.
Chen looked at Quon and the prince looked uncomfortable.
“Look I have personal matters that need attending. I will allow Byakko merchant ships in Shanghai's harbors and regular taxations on imports. This is the best I can do.” I said again bluntly.
“You are always to the point Lady Asuna.” Chen said in irritation.
I picked up my quill and signed the treaty. I looked at the Kanji and stood. I passed it to Chen.
“Sign it if you wish. If not then that is fine too.” I said dropping the quill and walking towards the door.
“That is it?” Chen asked in a fury.
“I am not the right person for diplomacy Lord Chen. I do most of my bantering on a field of battle. The terms have been stated. I wish to be friendly but if I cannot then that too is fine.” I said staring straight at Quon again.
Chen signed the treaty and stood up furiously. He walked past me and out the door. Cheung was glaring at me and Quon was seething. I picked up the long hem of my kimono and waited for my mother. She stood and raised her eyebrow. I walked straight to my study and she followed me in. She slid the door shut and I sat upon a very low chair and sighed.
“The younger prince is fuming with jealousy. The older Prince is fighting a very strong desire for you.” She stated.
“I know about Prince Quon but Prince Cheung can kiss my arse.” I said flippantly.
“Jin is being rather naughty.” She remarked.
“Hai Mother. My life is a never ending drama. I made it that way to be sure but even I get tired of it.” I said musing.
“Lord Chen is a rather arrogant creature too.” She remarked.
“To think he said what he did. Father would kill him on sight for having said it.” I said.
“That is why you will say nothing!” she replied firmly.
“I am not that stupid Mother. Besides Lord Chen is nothing in comparison to Father.” I said rubbing the bridge of my nose.
“No he is not. He was thinking rather lewd thoughts about us both.” She said smirking.
“Arrogant bastard. Please do not breathe a word about Jin. Yuudai and Naraku would go crazy.” I said sighing again.
“You have my word my dear.” She said sitting too.
“Thank you Mother. You are so much better at hearing thoughts.” I said.
“Well I delved a little. It helps me ascertain things much quicker. They are not telepathic at all and it is easy to hear an unshielded mind.” She stated.
“What was Lord Chen thinking exactly?” I asked curiously.
“Well he imagined you bent over and me on my back. He thinks much of his prowess.” She said barely hiding a smirk.
“What about Prince Quon?” I asked.
“I saw a memory of something akin to a kiss but not exactly.” She said looking.
“In the forest or my chambers?” I asked softly.
“The forest.” She replied.
I sighed yet again. Quon was not a lecherous idiot and his father disgusted me.
“I get the impression that even though he loves his sire he is ashamed of him.” My mother said looking at me.
“I have gotten the same impression. I need to get the treaty and have the scribe copy it.” I said standing.
“Hai. I will speak with Jin and keep him busy.” She said winking at me.
“Thank you Mother!” I said in relief.
I walked back into the meeting room and Quon leaned against a breeze way door. I was surprised to see him but retrieved the signed treaty and started to leave.
“You have more nerve than you have a right to.” He said softly not moving.
“What did I say that offended you so?” I asked him.
“Repeating my own statements back to me in such a manner and so publicly?” he seethed.
“If you had not reacted so, then no one would know that you said anything; if they even think you said anything worth hearing.” I snapped.
“You have a very sharp tongue nu zi.” He said staring over.
“It is a gift.” I retorted.
He stepped closer to me and lifted me up. I had to wrap my legs around his waist to steady myself. He gently pulled my head down and one of his hands was buried in my hair and the other supported my lower back. My own wrapped around his neck and the unimaginable heat coursed through us both. His lips insistently moved against my own; the soft flesh pliant and so very sensitive. There was no stilling the intensity as his tongue delved into my mouth and mine moved against his. He finally lowered me slowly and brought his other hand to run through my hair. My own claws and fingertips could not be still and fisted the silk of his pein-fu. I felt the hard planes of his upper back and I was losing control. He pulled back and his breathing was harsh. His eyes were tinged pink and I knew mine mirrored his. We had another moment like we did in the forest of savage; raw desire and need.
He walked past me to the door and I nearly screamed.
-STOP! - I pathed to him.
He turned and watched me closely.
-What do you want from me? What is it you need when you embrace me as such? - I asked in his mind.
“I have no explanations.” He responded quietly.
“I am shaking with repressed and raw emotion. If your goal is to drive me mad then congratulations.” I said inflamed.
“I am driving myself mad.” He said then left me.
I gouged my palms and snatched up the treaty. I walked to the scribe and handed him the parchment and went to my apartments. I decided that Jin would be my punching bag this time and I dressed in a sleeveless kosode and hakamas. I had bid the Byakko stay and make arrangements for their ships in the harbor and I hoped they might stay in the city itself. I went to Jin's guest apartments and knocked on the door. He slid it open and looked at me surprised.
“I am frustrated politically and I need a good sparring. Grab your fang.” I said as I fingered the Kumosaiga.
“Hai.” He said grinning.
I went to the dojo joined by my ex-mate. We bowed and immediately started clashing our fangs.
“Kamis you have gotten even better!” he said pleased.
“Thank you!” I said whirling then striking his.
He parried and struck low. I had to block at the awkward angle and I pushed back. The metal continued to clash and Jin and I both were pouring sweat. The silk was clinging to us both and he shed his own haori. I kept my eyes off his bare chest and he blocked a mid torso swing and I started pushing him backwards. Lord Chen actually entered the dojo but Jin and I were both intent on the mock battle.
“Please inform your cousins that I will brook no further comment on Mizuki's heritage. The twins can transform into their true forms and she does not understand that she is in hers.” I said as I hit his fang low.
“I have dealt with it Asuna; I swear on Sheng's grave that I have.” He said nicking my arm.
I grimaced a little and dropped and tried to trip him. He jumped back and I sprang up and found a hole in his defenses. I brought my fang to his neck and grinned.
“You fight like you make love onna.” He said hoarsely.
“How is that Jin?” I asked him.
“Passionate and with your all.” He whispered.
Chen cleared his throat and Jin sneered at the Byakko Lord.
“So my son spoke the truth. You are here Panyu trash.” Chen said mockingly.
“I held you back at Wuhan and I could do it again.” Jin snapped.
“So Lady Augusta you are not cold in bed hmmm?” he asked me.
Jin pushed him against the wall and his hand glowed a dark green. I realized that his poison must be similar to my own. Chen looked amused and I was angry.
“Lord Chen one more remark about me in such a manner and I will become quite nasty and cold.” I said through clenched teeth.
“As you wish. The company took a dive; we shall stay in the city itself. Thank you for the hospitality and the treaty.” He said bowing.
Chen left swiftly and I shook with fury. Jin calmed himself and put his haori back on.
“You may have given them rights to ship in Shanghai but it does not mean that I will honor any treaty with them.” Jin said flatly.
“Calm yourself Jin. I had to concede something; I took Sapporo through siege. I reunited the Northern Lands.” I said putting up my hand.
“Lord Tekeshi's old domain. You bore him a daughter right?” he asked softly.
“Hai.” I said uncomfortably.
“Asuna you bore him a daughter. Our union was a failure; I accept that.” He said lifting my chin.
“I am sorry.” I said.
“Look I bear no ill feelings. As mates we failed; I am the wrong inu to try and tame you. That is impossible to do. I will not lie and say I desire you.” He said running a finger along my jaw.
“Jin.” I said trying to look away.
“Not here. I know this. Please rest assured that I love the twins very much. I will make sure that nothing else is said about Mizuki, ever.” He said tipping my chin up.
He kissed me very softly for just a moment and walked away. I needed to get away from the conquering for a little while. It was rash but I was going to go to Egypt with Shezmu. I could not be gone too long but how much was there to truly see in the sand?
