It. Sitting upon each of their heads was a pair of canine ears of different shape and size. The first woman's were white with black spots, the second's were a little darker then her hair, and the third's were a whitish gray. Kagome also noticed they all had claws and then the second woman gave a reassuring smile, making her fangs became visible. `They're demons, Kaede didn't mention this. Oh I'm going to have a talk with her when I get back.' Kagome thought angrily.
“Don't be too upset with her my child. She either forgot to mention our heritage or did not mention it on purpose. Would you have come alone if you knew we are demons?” the second woman asked gently. Kagome thought for a second before answering.
“No” Kagome said embarrassed that the woman had seen right through her.
“I'm the dog demon known as Sanshi ” said the first woman.
"Me next, me next! I'm Tenshi and I'm a fox demon hehe" said the second woman, jumping up and down, clapping her hands in excitement.
"No more pokey for you before bed, Tenshi." said the third woman with a side glance at her grinning companion. "I'm Misuteri...."
"She's a wolf demon" Tenshi cut in.
"Thanks for clarifying that Tenshi" Misuteri said with a sarcastic smile.
"No prob bob" Tenshi said with an even bigger grin, one that looked like her face would split. Misuteri and Sanshi just shook their heads.
“Actually we are all hanyous” Sanshi piped in on a rather sad note. Misuteri and Tenshi hung their heads in shame.
“There's nothing wrong with being a hanyou” Kagome said with pride, “the man I.....um there's nothing to be ashamed of.”
“Were you perhaps missing the word love child?” Misuteri asked with a sly grin. Kagome blushed a deep red ` maybe it's a good thing Inuyasha didn't come with me. I hope their all not to worried about me and Inuyasha's not going to have a fit tomorrow...oh wait that will never happen.' Kagome was torn from her thoughts.
“What is the point of bathing with yellow ducks?” Tenshi asked staring straight at Kagome only inches from her face with intense curiosity.
“Um” was all Kagome could get out, she found her self rather dumbstruck. `She must mean a rubber ducky'. Putting her finger to her chin she said, “Well I'm not quite sure, I guess as a child they are fun to play with in the water and they are cute.”
“Interesting”Tenshi said while stroking her chin. “So tell me wha...”
“Enough already, can we fix her problem so I can get back to bed. You know how I get cranky if I don't get enough sleep.” Misuteri said before yawning widely.
“When are you not cranky Misuteri?” Tenshi said with a sly glance at her friend. Her stab of sarcasms was blocked by Misuteri's head shake in agreement.
“Please Kagome tell us your problem.” Sanshi said while taking Kagome's hand and leading her to a more open area only a few feet away. Misuteri and Tenshi made their way toward Kagome and Sanshi pushing at each other for a bit of amusement.
“Well it all started this afternoon. I had come down the well as I always have, I met up with my friends and that's when everything went weird.”
“Who are these friends of yours?” Tenshi asked.
“Well there's Miroku, Sango, Shippo, and Inuyasha. You see we are all trying to find the”
“Shikon Jewel, yes we know. We also know that you are hindering the evil of Naraku.” Sanshi said calmly.
“Then why did you ask if you already knew.” Asked Kagome.
“Because I wanted to.” Tenshi stated absent mindedly.
“Please continue with your story, the sooner you finish the less of a trail we leave.” Misuteri said in her cold tone.
“Leave a trail for what?” Kagome said with curiosity. `I have a sneaking suspicion that there is more to this then any of them is letting on, but she's right the sooner I finish the faster I get back.'
“Don't listen to Misuteri she doesn't know what she's saying. Please continue.” Sanshi said while gesturing with her hand for Kagome proceed.
“Ok, well....” she told them what had happened and what she had heard.
Sanshi giggled when Kagome had finished. “Don't worry my child you have nothing to fear, you're not ill and your not going crazy.” She said soothingly.
“At least not yet” Misuteri said through another yawn.
“So what is wrong with me, why do I hear these things?” Kagome said a little frustrated that Sanshi had laughed at her.
“You are hearing the thoughts of males my dear.” Sanshi said still giggling.
“YOU'RE SO LUCKY.” Tenshi wined loudly. Kagome gave her a strange look and Tenshi in a small surprised voice replied. “You are lucky….right?”
Kagome shook her head slowly `is she nuts, how can this possibly be cool'.
“How can I fix this?” Kagome begged, “I can't live with this. I mean how can you possibly expect me to go to school, I wouldn't beabletoconsentrate. HowaboutwhenIamlookingforthejewelshardsIdon'twanttoknowwhatthe demonsthinkingandgranpaIreallydon'twanttoknowwhathe'sthinkingor Mirokuohthatwouldbedisgustingthiscantbehappening!”
Misuteri grabbed Kagome by the arms as she continued to ramble. “Breath” Misuteri said in her demanding way. “If you pass out we can't help you.”
“Ok I'm calm” Kagome takes a few deep breaths “Sorry about that.”
“Don't worry about it, we have seen worse freak outs” Tenshi said while dancing around in circles.
“Come child stand here” Sanshi said pointing to spot on the ground. “Now relax and open your mind to us.” As she said this last part the three gathered around Kagome to form a triangle. They joined hands and slowly closed their eyes. Kagome didn't know if she should close her eyes to so she stood there just watching the three. Soon they started to chant softly, Kagome could not make out they were saying but it was beautiful like a song. It reminded Kagome of the way the flute sounded, a distant haunting lullaby.
Kagome was shocked out of listening to the chanting when she noticed that the three started to glow each with their own color. Sanshi was the first to glow, she had a light daisy yellow light surrounding her. Tenshi was the next to shine, her light was the palest blue. Finally Misuteri whose glow was very different from her companions. Kagome was able to see that there were a total of four colors in Misuteri's aura black, red, aqua, and violet; each standing out not blending but static and constant. Kagome wondered why her aura was so different from the others. Before she could come to a conclusion their aura shot toward her and Kagome was lifted in the air by the lights. As this happened she felt a surge of warmth and strength. `What is happening, I can feel their emotions, I see hear their thoughts, see their dreams. Can they experience the same I'm experiencing from them.' Her mind reeled before she felt a jerk in her stomach and found he self in her room. Everything was grayish, colors were faint. It was dark out and Kagome was on her bed looking out the window with tears striking her face, or at least that's what Kagome saw. `What a second if I'm standing over here how I can I be over there too.'
“We are showing you the past my child” Sanshi said from a corner of the room, Kagome screamed and jumped. “Don't worry she can not hear you” Sanshi soothed because after Kagome shrill she had clapped her hand over her mouth.
“Why is it grayish in here?” Kagome asked as she got closer to her self. She knew this was last night and that the tears were a lovers tears.
“Because your eyes are not used to visions and so you do not see them clearly.” Tenshi explained coming up to the window to look at the moon.
“So why bring me to this night?”Kagome asked starting to worry what her crying self had to do with her mind reading problem.
“Because when I listened to the voices they said to come to this night and that there I would find how your problem started. Perhaps this way we may find how to reverse it.” Sanshi stated looking about the room.
“You were so upset that night. Your heart is breaking, you feel deep love for one whom feelings are unknown to you. You cry for your unrequited love.” Miusteri said while watching Kagome's past self closely.
“Um… yes that is why I was crying” Kagome said with red spreading across her cheeks, “but I don't see ho…….” Something in Kagome's mind clicked. `Could it be that simple.'
“You have thought of something, please share.” Tenshi said coming away from the window.
“I was thinking of..of the man I love and I remember looking out the window. It had just gotten dark and there was the first star of the night. I looked at it and wished” Kagome paused as she saw her self begin to speak “I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I wish tonight… I wish… I wish I knew what he was thinking.” The past Kagome then climbed into her bed still crying.
“Well that was easy.” Misuteri said almost bored. Kagome was about to ask why when she felt the jerk in her stomach again. There she was again in the dark forest with nothing but the moon and fire for light. The three stood around her still but they had lost their glow. Kagome felt slightly dizzy, but it soon faded.
“The source of the problem is simply this, you wished on the “star” which really isn't a star, it was Venus. Your wish was one of love and so Venus granted you that wish.” Sanshi said plainly
“But I only wished to know what my love thought, so why then do I hear all men.”
“That's also simple, you said “he” not the name of the man you love. So because you weren't specific you were granted the thoughts of all men.” Sanshi took Kagome by the hand as a sign of sympathy.
“But how do I fix this, I”
“WE know you're concerned but the problem is as easy to fix as it was to begin.” Misuteri said sensing Kagome was about to start rambling again. “Since you wished on Venus you can wish to not hear men's thoughts by wishing on Venus again.”
“Problem my dear sweet Misuteri, if you didn't notice, which I'm sure you didn't, Venus was at her Mythical Zenith that night.” Tenshi said waving her finger around and making her best interpretation of a professor. Misuteri and Sanshi looked at each other horrified.
“What does that mean?” Kagome asked sensing something was amiss.
“It means that you can not simply wish on Venus again because she can't grant wishes now. Long ago Venus granted every wish of love made upon her, causing utter chaos, so Jupiter had Saturn put a time restriction on her so that she could only grant wishes on the night she reached her zenith.” Tenshi said looking rather smug.
“and?”
“And so you have to wait till Venus reaches zenith again.”
“how long will that take” Kagome said getting a little annoyed.
“A year” Tenshi said calmly.
“ A WHAT” Kagome was shocked. `And I thought this couldn't get any worse'.
“You do have another option” Misuteri stated from the rock she had moved to sit on. “You could go find Venus or Saturn and ask if they would break the wish for you.”
`Who do they think I am, I can't go to space' Kagome was beside herself.
“They come to Earth every so often for some reason. Don't ask me why they would come here of all the places in the universe.” Misuteri said in a matter of fact way.
“I resent that remark, I like Earth, and I stick to the ground.” Tenshi said starting to spin again.
“It's called gravity and you don't stick your being pulled” Misuteri said as Tenshi tripped and fell.
“Tenshi settle down.” Sanshi growled.
“So what do I do now.” Kagome said wondering for the first time in hours how she would get home without Kirara.
“Well you'll stay here for tonight and in the morning we'll take you home” Misuteri said through her large yawn. “come now we have an extra bed for you.”
The three got up and walked away from the fire into the woods. After a little hesitation Kagome followed. They walked for about five minutes, when Kagome saw in the darkness a small warm light burning in a cave. It took them another two minutes to reach the entrance. The inside of the cave was not what Kagome had expected, it was tidy and was very homey. Sanshi led Kagome to a small den with a matt on the floor.
“Get some sleep, we will leave in a few hours. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight and thank you.”
Sanshi left Kagome alone. She laid down and found the matt quite comfortable. Kagome soon fell asleep to the sounds of whispering voices and a cricket's serenade.
