InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ I hide myself behind the moon ❯ Decisions ( Chapter 7 )
- Oh, - he put the glass aside and smirked. - I think not.
Sango, who was already by the door, didn't open it, when she heard him speak. Kagome stopped near the mosaic.
The pieces of mosaic glass formed a rather strange picture: a big dark blue bird-night stretched wide wings over a deserted land, covered with silver ashes. The bird's eyes were stars and dim moonlight shone upon the dead white trees.
What a strange mosaic, thought Kagome, it looks like some land after a long exhausting battle. Why would someone place it in a dining room?
She turned around to face Inuyasha, who was still standing near the table, not moving.
- Let us go.
- No.
- Why don't you tell them, Inuyasha, - suggested Miroku, who was still eating. - I think they deserve an explanation.
- And a good one!!! - chorused the girls.
Inuyasha hemmed.
- Because you, - he pointed at Kagome. - have a damn fucking jewel inside and if it falls into Naraku's hands it'll cause a lot of trouble.
- Who's this Naraku? - asked Sango.
- He's a demon, - explained Miroku. - A big asshole with global plans of world domination. The guy has been looking for the Shikon no Tama for years. No luck. But if he finds out that Kagome has it, he won't stop before anything to get it.
- But Kaede said…
- Yea, I heard what she said, - continued the monk. - But believe me, baby, Naraku will find a way to pull it out of you. Or just make you give it to him, after he kills your family, your friends…
- Shut up! - shouted Sango, noticing how his words hurt Kagome. - Don't listen to him, Kag. It won't happen.
- It won't happen, if you stay, - said Miroku and returned to eating.
In silence Kagome turned to the mosaic once more. This time to hide her tears. Miroku's words broke something inside of her, making the girl realize that there was not way back. Only two choices where given to her by life. To stay. Or to return. To return? Not when she was a danger to her own family. Family. Mother… Granddad…. Souta! And I didn't even had a chance to say goodbye and tell them how much I really love them.
But she had already made her decision.
And when Kagome turned away from the mosaic, her eyes were dry.
- I'll stay.
- Kagome! - gasped Sango in shock. Miroku stopped chewing and opened his mouth. Inuyasha gave her an odd look, then shrugged his shoulders.
- Good.
- But let my friend go, - asked Kagome. - She has nothing to do with it.
- She is a demon hunter, - said Inuyasha. - And she knows too much. So she stays too.
- Maybe, she could be useful to us, - suggested Miroku with his mouth full.
- Never! - cried out Sango. - I will never help the ones who killed my family!!! I will rather die!!!
Inuyasha smirked.
- We can arrange that.
- You just try and I will go to Naraku myself and give him this damn Jewel!!! - shouted Kagome.
- Are you blackmailing me, bitch?
- Don't call me that! I have a name!!! And it's Ka-go-me!
- Whatever, - he was thinking something over for a moment, and then said. - I don't remember the eastern demons having killed a family of demon hunters… Miroku, check this information.
- Hey, I'm still eating!
- Now.
- Yeah, yeah, I'm right on it, - with a sad sigh the monk put aside a piece of cruassan and grumbling left the dining-room.
He was back in a moment with a notebook in his hands. Miroku nodded in answer to Inuyasha's inquiring glance.
- It happened seven month ago. A family of demon hunters was entrapped and brutally killed.
- Who was it? - asked Inuyasha after a pause.
- Spiders.
Sango quietly sobbed, trying to hold back tears, going through painful memories anew. It was so hard to hear those dry words. Like dead autumn leaves rustling. She hid away from it under the armor she made out of hate and tears, behind a wall separating her from the world. But the memories found her there, making her suffer again and again.
Kagome came to her friend, trying to comfort her with silent words and Sango sobbed again.
Miroku felt a sharp sting of pity. He saw her trying to cope with tears, but the pain inside of her was probably too strong to simply hide it away. He saw her armor and the wall she built around herself. Life was unfair to her, making her suffer so much. What was she like before that happened, he wondered, and could she ever be the same again.
Inuyasha was standing near the door.
- There are no spiders among the eastern demons, - he said. - It was Naraku. Think about it, - and added, addressing to Miroku. - Take them to Kaede and see to that she doesn't open her mouth too often.
