- What?
- What "what"?
- What is it?
- What "what is it?".
Inuyasha raised an eyebrow at her.
- So are you gonna go inside or just sit here and try my patience? - he asked.
- I'm just thinking over what to say to my family about my absence, - Kagome replied, raising her chin. - And can't think of anything.
- Why don't you tell them the truth.
- Oh, ye, right. Good idea. - she said sarcastically. - And you expect to see me after that? I don't think so.
Inuyasha gave her a measuring look, then put his hand on her shoulder in a caressing motion.
- Just go, - he said almost softly. - And call me if there's any trouble, ok?
- No problem, - said Kagome stiffly and got out of the car. Only when the door had shut behind her did she allow her shoulders to slump.
With a sigh, the girl set off down the path. She stopped at the door, feeling slightly dizzy, and then went inside.
The unforgettable smell of home and mother's cooking made her childishly happy. The house was quiet, only the clinking of dishes was heard from the kitchen. Then it stopped and her mother's voice called out: "Souta, did you open the front door?".
After a pause Kagome heard her brother's steps on the stairs and turned to face him.
His eyes widened and he blinked, probably not believing what he saw.
- Hey, Souta, - Kagome smiled at him.
- Hey, Kag, - he answered automatically.
- Souta, who is there? - her mother came out of the kitchen with a towel in her hands. She blinked, when she saw Kagome, and for a moment looked surprised.
Then everything got mixed.
Mother's soft hands around her, Souta's loud cheers, Granddad's trembling voice… And Kagome felt, that she really was home, where everything was so familiar, where she was loved and protected.
Then mother let her go, took a step back and looked at her daughter with consideration.
- Kagome, where were you all this time?!
Kagome coughed. Everyone was staring at her.
- Well… it was actually so…
- Now, Kagome. I want to hear the truth.
- The truth… the truth is… to tell the truth, I'm not actually good at telling the truth… and the truth is…
Kagome hopped down off the sofa and rushed for the door.
- I'll be back in a minute! - she promised and was out. She came back before her family could even think the whole thing over, pulling a strange-looking young man with long silver hair after her.
- That's Inuyasha! - she exclaimed. - And he is going to tell you the truth… C'mon, Inuyasha. Tell them the who-o-o-ole truth!
Inuyasha looked very much as if he wanted to be elsewhere, and then said with a sigh: "I am a demon".
- Cool, - said Souta.
- I knew it, - said Grandfather.
- Your ears… they're so cute, - said Kagome's mother.
Inuyasha coughed.
- And… actually I kidnapped Kagome…
- Cool, - said Souta.
- Just as I thought! - said Grandfather.
- You don't say, - said Kagome's mother.
- But now she stays with me, so I will protect her, - Inuyasha clarified.
- Cool, - said Souta.
- That was just what I was thinking about, - said Grandfather.
- Oh, how sweet of you, - exclaimed Kagome's mother. - Would you like a cup of tea? Or maybe coffee?
- N-no, thanks, - muttered Inuyasha and glanced at Kagome. - We will be leaving soon.
- Ye, right… Ehr, Mum, I will be staying with Inuyasha for some time…
- Sure thing, honey. Come, I will help you to pack your things.
Kagome threw Inuyasha a warning and at the same time encouraging look and followed her mother upstairs.
There was a long pause while Souta and Grandfather were staring at Inuyasha with opened mouths.

The sky was pale blue and in the crystal cold air everything seemed motionless and calm.
The were walking through the alley of old oaks, red and yellow leaves falling down with quiet rustling and covering the ground with a thick colorful carpet.
- … and then this guy says: "Hey, I don't have lunch, cuz I think of her, I don't dinner cuz I think of her, I don't have supper, cuz I think of her… I don't sleep at night cuz I'm hungry!".
Sango started laughing and a large complacent smile appeared on Miroku's face.
- That's not all, - he continued. - Wait till you hear what he said after another drink!
- Oh, don't! - squealed Sango, wheezing with laughter. - I can't take it any more… my ribs already hurt from laughter!
- Your wish is my command, beautiful lady. From now on - no more jokes, - he made a gloomy grimace. - Only sad faces and serious talks. What should we talk about? Hey, I know… let's talk about business… It's popular to talk about business nowadays.
- Miroku, stop that! - Sango started giggling again.
- No, I'm serious, - he said, not sounding serious at all. Sango cut her eyes sideways at him. The monk looked smugly unconcerned.
And Sango suddenly realized that it was the first time for months she felt so good. It was just… good… good to walk with Miroku this October morning, and listen to his shallow jokes and laugh at them like mad and it felt so… right.
She smiled at him and Miroku tenderly took her by the hand, as they continued their way in silence.
Then there was loud tramp of feet and a small demon appeared at the end of the alley. When he ran closer, Sango recognized Kemuri. He was running like mad to them and waving his hands about.
- They have arrived! They have arrived! - he shouted. - They're here!
- Finally! - said Miroku with a sigh of relief and pulled Sango by the sleeve. - C'mon, we have to return to the mansion at once.
- Hey, who's here? What's all the fuzz about? - she asked.
- Not so long ago Inuyasha had this idea… to organize a meeting for our foreign partners on… erh… have I told you that we are doing business not only in our country, but beyond it's borders? Never mind. So the meeting was held, but the Russian delegation was late… as usual. And as they are our very important partners, we have been planning an exceptional meeting for their delegation and it was supposed to be held today. But nobody really knew whether they are going to arrive or not… Thank kami, they're here!
Sango, who has been listening attentively, asked curiously.
- Are your…erm… foreign partners demons too?
- Actually I don't know for sure, but among those who came, must be some… Oh, shit. I just got it - they have arrived and where the hell is Inuyasha?!?!

- .. and I take out my mighty Tessaiga - it's this very cool sword I got from my dad - and say: "And now you die! All of you! Ha-ha-ha!"… And then: "Kadze no Kizu!!!". And a hundred… no... a thousand of ugly monsters go down! Turn into ashes! And there I stand, holding my powerful Tessaiga, and say: "That's what you get for…
- Inuyasha!
Kagome, who came downstairs carrying two suitcases, was now looking with wide eyes at Inuyasha. He was standing on the coffee-table, gesturing with his hands while he talked, his silver hair dancing, golden eyes sparking animatedly. And her grandfather and Souta were listening with opened mouths, great admiration written on their faces.
- Um, Kagome… - the demon abruptly hopped of the table. - I was just telling… erm… how I defeated a thousand of demons… erm…
- I don't belive it! You were telling that to my old grandfather and my little brother!?!?
- Well… ye…
- Inuyasha! - she gave him a furious look.
- What?
- Can't I live you alone just for a minute? Jeez, Grandfather! Souta! Were you listening to him?!
They hastly nodded.
- That was cool, - said Souta.
- Very good indeed, - added Grandfather.
Kagome rolled her eyes.
- Oh, Kami… and on mother's favoutrite coffee-table… C'mon, Inuyasha, lets get going already before you do something really bad.
Inuyasha took the suitcases.
- Hey, what do you have in them? Bricks and stones?
- That's my luggage so be careful with it!
- Hey, will you come again?! - shouted Souta and Grandfather in chorus. Kafome growled and shut the door.
- What a mad family, - she thought to herself, getting in the car. - Maybe it's not good to think that wat, but I think I could use some time far away from them.
Inuyasha started the car and turned to Kagome with a smile on his face.
- I liked your familly, - he said cheerfully. - There're really nice people.

She moved along the high enclosure, touching the iron lettice with her fingers. It was cold.
Rin stopped at the gates and sighed.
Why is it that they are never locked?
Surely because this place belonged to her master. No one would ever dare to enter it without his permission. Or leave.
Interesting, what are Sango and Kagome doing right now? Sango is maybe flirting with Miroku, and Kagome is probably teaching Inuyasha some good manners…
- Rin, it's is getting cold. Let's go back inside, - called Jaken, who was following her in some distance.
- I don't want to, - said Rin absently. She was silent for some minutes and then a thought had occurred to her.
- Jaken… do you think the Lord will return today.
- Why do you think I know? I don't! But I suppose - will not. No, probably not. Maybe, he went to the castle in the mountains. That's far away. Then this day - no.
Rin turned around and a slight smile appeared on her face.
- I think so too, - she said. - That is why I'm going to visit my friends now. Go get the driver to get the car ready.
Jaken squiled.
- You can not! Have you lost your mind? It is impossible! No! I will not let you! - he shouted.
- Jaken, calm down, it'll take only a few hours and…
- Stupid girl! And what if the master returns?! What will I tell? You have ran away and want to do it one more time? Oh, the lord will not stand this. He will not!
Rin paled markedly but held her ground
- Tell him, that I'm feeling sick and staying in my room, or just think of something! Besides, I'm not running away, just going over to Inuyasha's place. So hurry up.
The little demon rubbed his hands nervously.
- Do you even realize what you are doing?
- I'm going to my friends. The only ones I had for years.
Rin smiled. It was a thin smile, but genuine.
