< br> Kagome looked to Inu Yasha, hiding the hurt inside from the insult he had carelessly tossed at her, she put on her fake smile. "Come on, I sense another shard to the North. If we hurry we can get it today as well."
Inu Yasha looked at Kagome, puzzled, 'why didn't she sit me or yell at me?' "Keh!" He stooped down so she can climb on his back. He looked at her, hiding the pain in his eyes as she backed away from him and climbed onto Kirara. "Kagome?"
"I'm fine, I just want to talk to Sango." She looked down, obscuring her eyes from the hanyou, so he couldn't tell that she was lying.
~{I've lied to you
The same way that I always do
This is the last smile
That I'll fake for the sake of being with you}~
"What's wrong, Kagome-chan?" Sango asked after Kirara took to the air. Her worry written clearly on her face.
"I'm just tired of living in this lie. I don't know why I thought Inu Yasha would ever love me." The tears she was holding back were now falling freely from her eyes. "Why do I put up with it, I don't know?"
"You love him, love can make anyone put up with most anything."
"That is it though, my feelings are slowly changing. I think the fact that I will never have him is sinking in."
~{(Everything falls apart
Even the people who never frown
Eventually break down)
The sacrifice of hiding in a lie
(Everything has to end
You'll soon find we're out of time left
To watch it all unwind)
The sacrifice is never knowing
Why I never walked away
Why I played myself this way
Now I see your testing me pushes me away
Why I never walked away
Why I played myself this way
Now I see your testing me pushes me away}~
The rest of the trip went in silence. Worried, Inu Yasha would steal glances at Kagome. 'I smell salt, something's wrong. Why isn't she telling me?'
When the sun started to set they decided that they would not be getting the second shard that day and that they should set up camp. Kagome went about setting up the fire ignoring the pestering Inu Yasha. Finally after thirty minutes of him constantly asking her what's wrong, she snapped.
"Inu Yasha..."
He looked at her and knew instantly that he had messed up yet again.
"SIT! Sit, sit, sit, sit!"
"Damn it, Kagome, what the hell is your problem?" his voice was muted by the ground his face was burried in, but you could still make out what he said.
"You! You are my problem Inu Yasha." With that she stormed off into the woods surrounding the camp.
"Great, now look what you did dog boy" Shippo chirpped, running in the direction his 'mother' had.
Sango reached out in just enough time to catch the kit. "Shippo, I think Kagome needs to be alone right now." He looked up at her, the look of understanding crossed his face and he nodded his head.
Kagome ran as fast as her legs would carry her, she knew that he would be after her as soon as the spell wore off. All she wanted at this moment was to be alone, time to think on her feelings and sort herself out. When she finally stopped she found herself in a clearing in the middle was a pond surrounded by boulders.
She walked up to one of the boulders and climbed to the top, sitting down when she had reached it. She closed her eyes, listening to the crickets chirp and feeling the wind blow through her hair.
"Kagome?" The whispered name came to her on the breeze.
She opened her eyes and looked down at Inu Yasha. "Inu Yasha, we need to talk."
"No kidding, what are you hiding from me wench?"
"Inu Yasha, please just this once, could you keep your mouth shut and listen."
Inu Yasha jumped up to where she was sitting and sat down next to her. "I'm listening."
She shifted her body so she could look him in the eyes. "Inu Yasha, I love you. I understand now that you will never return this love."
He went to say something, but Kagome's hand on his mouth stopped him.
~{I've tried like you
To do everything you wanted too
This is the last time
I'll take the blame for the sake of being with you}~
"It hurts to much for me to be around you now. I am going to go home for a while, I don't know how long so don't ask." She reached inside her shirt and pulled out the half completed jewel. Grabbing his hand she placed the jewel in it. "I want you to continue the search with out me."
"But Kagome..."
"No, Inu Yasha, no buts this time. I am going home, I need this. If you care anything for me at all you will leave it well enough alone. My heart needs to heal." Kagome pulled herself to her knees, then pulled the hanyou into a hug. "Please don't forget me." With that she placed a quick kiss on his cheek.

Slowly she made her way back to camp, leaving Inu Yasha sitting on the rock. When she got to the camp, she asked to borrow Kirara, and said her good-byes to everyone, knowing inside that she would never return.
The trip to the well was short, she jumped off Kirara and thanked her for her help. Giving the demon cat a silent good-bye she turned to the well. She stepped up to the edge, stopping, she turned and took in one last time the life she was leaving behind.

Just as she was about to jump into the well she heard someone call her name.
"Kagome..."
She turned to see Inu Yasha standing behind her, tears in his eyes. "Why..?" The rest of the question remained silent as she looked at him.
"Kagome, I can't let you go. I'm sorry, I really am sorry for being hateful to you all the time. Please don't leave me, I need you."
"Inu Yasha, I can't stay. Being with you only hurts me now that I know you can never love me."
"Kagome...I..." Before he could finish she jumped into the well, "love you." 'Damn it, I am not letting her get away. She has to know the truth.' Inu Yasha followed her through the well. Jumping up into the tree near her window he waited for her to enter her room. He had just about given up waiting when the light in her room came on. Quickly he jumped into her room through the window.
"Inu Yasha, can you not just leave me alone? I don't want you here, leave."
"Kagome I need to tell you something, and you need to hear it."
"What? That I will never measure up to Kikyou? That all I am is a shard detector and I mean nothing to you?"
"No, Kagome, that is not it. I love you damn it."
Kagome's world began to spin, 'did he just say he loves me?' Before she could confirm what he said she felt his arms go around her waist and his lips push against hers. She parted her lips and deepened the kiss, feeling herself melt into him. She moaned in protest when he pulled away.
"Kagome, you have to come back with me." He pulled out the jewel and placed it into her hand. "This does not belong to me, it belongs to you."
"Inu Yasha..I.."
"Will you come back with me?"
She looked up at him through tear filled eyes, but this time they were from happiness. "Yes, yes I will."
He smiled down at her as he swooped her up in his arms and carried her back into his time.
