I'm Teaching Myself To Dream

Chapter 1: Flashbacks Pt 1

The past few months for Kagome were a blur. It had all happened so fast. Tonight was

The night she was in NYC, in Madison Square Gardens. When she went out on that

Stage, it would be official, everyone in the world would know her name.

She gave a heavy sigh. This is what she wanted right? This is what she had wanted to

do her whole life, and now at age 19, she was there. She started small, and rose to the top of the

charts. This was most young girls' dream, this was her dream, and this is what she wanted. She

wanted to sing, she wanted people to hear her sing, she wanted people to WANT to hear her

sing. And from the entire crowd outside calling her name, she could tell that they wanted to hear

her sing. This was her first major concert. She already had a music video, she had a single, and

an album on it's way to store right now. She's done smaller concerts, like one in Albany, and a few back in Hawaii and

in Florida. A few minutes until she had to go on, she was dressed and ready, she remembered everything

She was supposed to do. She just wanted to sit and think for a few minutes, she just wanted to

remember right then, how she got there... Here come the flashbacks...

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

"Inuyasha! You're hurt!"

"*Cough* I'm fine."

"No you're not."

"Keh."

"How are your wounds?"

"They're fine!"

"Inuyasha, you have a hole in your stomach."

"It's not like *cough* It's the first time it happened."

*_*-*_*-*_*-*_*-*_*-*_*-*_*-*_*

"I'm sorry."

"For what?"

"I wasn't there to protect you..."

"Inuyasha, it wasn't your fault-"

"Yes it was, if I had been there-"

"You wouldn't have been able to do a thing to help me, it just happened. You're not

responsible for what happens to me-"

"Yes I am. I promised I would protect you. I didn't and you got hurt."

"Inuyasha, I would have been hurt anyway."

"But you might have had less wounds if I was there."

"You don't know that for sure."

"Neither do you."

"*Sigh* well, no use worrying about it now."

Inuyasha's brows rose in confusion as she snuggled deeper in his lap.

"Just worry about the future Inuyasha, not the... past."

She drifted off to sleep leaving a very confused hanyou with her in his lap. This

confusion lingered for a moment longer before it was replaced with happiness and love. He

gently stroked her hair with a clawed finger while the other arm wrapped around her waist. He

sighed as he held her tighter, and couldn't help but smile when she snuggled even deeper into

his chest. He closed his eyes and let sleep overcome him.

^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^ _^_^_^

"Inuyasha! I told you I would only be gone for a little while!" She yelled at him. They

were in the forest, just her and him, by the well. Kagome didn't have her pack, it had already

been dropped into the well, right before Inuyasha grabbed her.

"Keh, bullshit! You're always gone for more than a little while! You'd be gone even longer

if I didn't come and drag you back here!" He tightened his grip on her arm in attempt to take her

back to the village.

"Which is exactly why you should let me go!"

"How do you figure?" He asked threateningly, stopping for a second in his attempt to

drag her back to the village.

Taking advantage of his pause she loosened of his grip of her. But didn't make any

attempt to run.

"Because you always drag me from the well so soon that I hardly have any time to do

anything, the time you give me is barely enough-"

"B-barely enough?" Inuyasha stammered. "You spend MORE than enough time there,

infact, it makes me wonder just WHAT you DO there?"

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means," Inuyasha said sounding annoyed. "You spend so much time there, that

no one has any idea what you do when you're gone." Inuyasha huffed.

"So," Kagome raised an eyebrow at him. "You're saying you want to know what I do

when I'm there, is that it?"

Inuyasha just stood with his back to her, arms crossed, and the usual scowl on his face.

Kagome just sighed.

"What's THAT supposed to mean?"

"What?"

"The *imitates sigh*. That!"

"It means *repeats sigh*."

"Argh! What'd you sigh for?"

"I sighed because I can't believe you don't trust me, that's why! Especially since I trust

you with my life!"

"What do you mean I don't trust you?"

"You hardly ever allow me to go back to my own time, and when I do go back, you drag

me back here a few days later. So when I get here, you ask me what I do back home! It's like

you constantly need to know where I am!"

"You're exaggerating! I do too trust you!"

"Yeah, just not when I'm still in the same era as HOJO!"

"AHA! So you ARE seeing HOBO!"

"I never said that I was seeing HO-JO! You just ASSUME that when I go to my time, I go

to see him!"

"So, every time I go off on my own, you expect me to go to KIKYOU!"

"And, correct me if I'm wrong Inuyasha, but most of the time you go off, YOU DO GO

TO SEE KIKYOU!"

"Ha, yeah right. Tell me every time you go to your time you don't see Hojo AT LEAST

ONCE!"

"I can't."

"HA-uh what?"

"I can't."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean I can't say that I don't see Hojo at least once when I'm in my time."

"Oh," He turned away from her and stepped away. "So you are with him."

"No."

He turned back to her. "You just said-"

"I don't TRY to see him! He goes to the same school as me! He's in my classes! I have

to see him at some point of the day! But at least I TRY to make him go away! When you see

Kikyou you don't even TRY to make her go away."

"What are you talking-"

"Oh come on Inuyasha, when have you ever even ATTEMPTED to make Kikyou

leave?"

"I've made her go plenty of times-"

"Like when?"

"Before we met Sango. When she scared that one monk, the first time she started

stealing souls-" (Episode: Kagome's voice and Kikyou's kiss)

"And WHEN exactly did you MAKE her go?"

"When I cut you from the tree."

"Huh, yeah, it only took you about half an hour! I make Hojo leave in 5 minutes!"

"Yeah, but Kouga is a different story!"

"Oh, and let me remind you of what you did WHILE I was stuck to the tree! Besides the

fact that YOU KISSED HER, you almost got dragged into HELL!"

"So you can tell me you've never kissed Kouga or HOBO?"

"Yes, I can."

"So, you've never-"

"No."

"Not even thought about-"

"No."

"Well, I was under a spell for crying out loud, everything that happened was because I-"

"You know I was there Inuyasha, and I had FRONT ROW SEATS."

Inuyasha silently gulped.

"I know very well that you weren't under a spell when you first got there. Before you

were under the spell you said some things."

Inuyasha visably gulped.

"Hn, what was it that you said?" She said sarcastically. "Ah, now I remember! And I

Quote: I never stop thinking about you! You're always on my mind!"

"..."

"Huh," Kagome shook her head at Inuyasha who wasn't facing her. "See ya Inuyasha."

She walked over to the well.

"Where the hell are you going?"

"Where does it look like I'm going?"

"How long are ya gonna be?"

"Why? Want to know how much time you're going to get alone with Kikyou?"

Inuyasha growled. Kagome paid it no attention as she got closer to the well.

"Maybe." Inuyasha said, he would love nothing more than to piss her off right then.

Kagome spun around to look at him a moment. He was now facing her and the well,

with the smuggest grin on his face. His eyes were taunting, menacing, almost as if he wanted

her to be hurt. She knew she was going to remember the look in his eyes for the rest of her life.

He looked in her eyes, trying his hardest to keep his smug expression. She did exactly

what he was hoping for. She spun around and looked at him with confusion. Then hurt. He

didn't exactly want that, he didn't want to hurt Kagome, just piss her off. Then he saw anger. Then rage.

Uh oh. That wasn't good when Kagome's rage was directed at him. Keep the face, keep a

straight face he thought. He knew she was going to say it, and he knew it was going to hurt.

Saying that one word `maybe' had to have been the worst mistake he made in his life.

Kagome wanted so much to just slap the smile off him, but opted for another method of

revenge.

"SIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!"

Author's note: We interrupt this flash back to bring you a new update. Kagome's most

recent 'sit' is the loudest sit ever recorded.

Birds flew from the forest, animals scattered, and the one word echoed through out the

forest. Everyone and everything in a 10-mile radius heard her.

Inuyasha was embedded 5 feet into the ground. He was in so much pain that he had to

strain to hear the words she said to him as she jumped into the well.

"I loved you Inuyasha..." Kagome whispered.

^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ *^*^*^*^*^

'I should go back, I really should.' She was standing at the edge of the well in her time.

"Kagome? Don't tell me you're still at the well!" Souta said as he entered the well house.

"I don't know souta, should I go?"

"Why shouldn't you?"

"Cause he's an a-"

"Hey! No swearing around me!"

"-Artichoke!"

"Thank you."

"Part of me wants to, but..."

"Part of you doesn't. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You should go back. Even if only for a little while, make up, if he

pisses you off-"

"So much for no bad language."

"So if he PISSES YOU OFF," Kagome glared at him and he just smiled. "You can just leave him and never come back, if you make

up, then he can be my brother-in-law!"

"Hey! Wait a minute!"

But he was already out the door. She just smiled and faced the well. 'Here I go.' She

thought as she jumped down. She closed her eyes as she fell. When she looked up she was still

smiling, but her smile quickly turned into a frown.

"What am I doing HERE?"

"How could this have happened?"

"Kagome, dear-"

"How could the well have closed off mom?"

"I don't know."

"Why did it close?"

"I really don't know, but," Mrs. Higurashi put her full coffee mug down on the table. "I

think, that maybe this was supposed to happen."

"What?"

"I think this is your fate, you know. You go through the well, you discover a past life, a

stronger side of yourself, and then when you're done, you come back to start your life over again,

as, as... the new you."

"I haven't even finished finding the shards yet though." She played with her necklace.

The necklace that had half the jewel on it. (The one Kikyou previously stole)

"Maybe that's something Inuyasha must do on his own, or with your other friends."

"But they can't sense the shards."

"Well, maybe there's, someone else who can."

"Like Kikyou." she muttered.

"Hn? What was that?"

"Oh, nothing. But I don't see why I can't get back, I have the jewel."

"You have half, maybe," She thought. "Since it was full a couple years ago, and then

you went there, maybe you weren't supposed to finish. Maybe you were only supposed to give

them half."

"Uh, I doubt that."

"Well, there's not much more you can do."

"Hn."

"Anyway Kagome, I think this happened because you belong here, you were meant to be

here, and that your future lies in this era. This, I believe is your fate. Inuyasha belongs in his

world, and you belong in yours. You had an amazing journey, and both of you just helped each

other find themselves."

"Thanks mom." Kagome smiled for the first time in days. It was a smile of pure joy.

She honestly felt better than she had in weeks. She got up from the kitchen table to take a walk

by the well and the tree. She wore a coat because it was winter then.

'If Inuyasha has Kikyou, it must mean that there's someone out there for me. Inuyasha

and Kikyou must really belong together. I'm just going to have to deal with that.'

She walked by the tree. She walked up to it and put a hand where Inuyasha was pinned

with an arrow hundreds of years ago. She felt warm there, like things were right, and this was

the way it was meant to be, and Kagome didn't feel sad anymore. She was free from him, he

was free from her. They were free from each other. He wouldn't have to be sitted, she wouldn't have to miss any

more of her life to go shard hunting. She taught him trust, He taught her love, they taught each

other true friendship.

She stroked the tree slowly as the single, final tear she ever shed for him slid down her

cheek.

"Goodbye Inuyasha..."

Author's Note: When the well closed, Kagome was 17, two years after she was dragged

in by Mistress Centipede. The concert is two years after that, so she has known Inuyasha for 4 years. Continue Flashback-

"Higurashi? Kagome Higurashi?"

She spun around at the familiar voice to the familiar face.

"Leo?"

"Holy crap!"

"Oh my god!"

She was at the airport in America, just after high school graduation on vacation. She

was coming here to meet an old friend. He lived here his entire life. As soon as they saw each

other they recognized each other. They had been friends since they were kids. Leo, her friend, lived in

America, She in Japan. She lived here in America, and was next door neighbors to Leo and his

family before she moved to Tokyo and Leo was her best friend. Even after she moved, they still

kept in touch. Over summers they would visit each other. Even during the time when Kagome

could still go down the well, they kept in touch. And Leo, was the one friend, that Kagome had

told about the warring states era and all her friends, including her feelings for Inuyasha. When

ever they could, Kagome and Leo spent every minute together.

Author's note: Picture Leo as a modern Hi-ten from the thunder brothers. Only, no flying

wheels, no instinct to kill humans, animals, or anything living, no demonic ears, eyes, teeth,

claws, etc. No long hair, and no brother. I made Leo an only child. Brown eyes. Modern clothes, blue jeans,

and a grey top (right now) for what he's wearing. One ear pierced, (okay I had to give him that, you

can't blame me can ya?) His full name is Leo Witter, but when Kagome is mad at him or teases

him, she uses his nickname she gave him, Ice. Had something to do with how many times girls

had to dump ice on him to calm him down at parties.

Filling in the blanks: (This is stuff that usually happens with them, I have to tell you here

because we're in the middle of a flash back, so this is like a mini-flash back. Get it? I hope so.

Read!) People often made assumptions like "AAAAw, you two are the cutest couple." or "You

two would be a great couple." At this both of them would laugh. They were like family, and

neither of them had THOSE kinds of feelings for one another. Kagome was like Leo's little sister.

They both respected each other's judgement. No one dated someone unless the other

approved. They could tease each other endlessly without getting mad at each other, and humor

was almost always the best medicine for them. With each other they could relax, they didn't

have to stress to fit in or be cool. They could just be themselves, and goof around. They were

serious when they needed to be. But most of the time they were just having fun. Which is one

of the reasons why, everyone at their schools thought they were the coolest kids there. Everyone in town knew Kagome and Leo, they were very social and had a lot of friends. Both of them loved to surf, and they loved the beach. Leo's best friends had crushes on Kagome, and Kagome's friends liked Leo. Kagome's friends often made comments on how they would be such a good couple, but both of them would just laugh and brush it off with humor. But

Kagome's friends usually tried to get them together, and Kagome would just brush it off. Leo

usually asked about Inuyasha and Hojo. Because of their good relationship, they could spill their

guts out to each other (unlike Kagome and her gossipy friends.). Kagome would tell Leo how

she had to get over Inuyasha, and how boring Hojo was. Leo would tell her all the pressures he

has to go through, all the problems with his girlfriend. But they would both listen and try to help

them solve their problems. Kagome would sometimes give Leo advice on how to make up with

his girlfriend, but most of the time he didn't need it. Leo and Kagome were quite the romantics.

Leo always came up with ways to impress or surprise his girlfriends, sometimes with the help of

Kagome of course. When Kagome and Leo were taking a walk along a beach, talking about her

getting a boyfriend to help her get over Inuyasha (she didn't have a problem with Leo playing

matchmaker unlike her other friends), he asked her what kind of guy she would consider a good boyfriend. She went over

a short-list saying like, funny, cute, pretty eyes, sense of humor, tall, etc. And Leo was teasing

her saying something like "Picky now aren't we?" Kagome just said "You want a smaller list, Ice?

Okay..." Then she thought for a minute. "Okay, I know what I want, I want a guy like you. But,

just not you." They both laughed and gave each other a small hug. (Why did she live in

America? Because I'm the author, and I made it so! HA!)

She ran up to him, her backpack still on her back. She ran into his open arms and

hugged him with all her might. He swung her around a few times careful not to hit the passerbys

who were carefully stepping a mild one foot away from the two to make sure they weren't hit.

"Ah, you're getting heavy girl." he teased.

"Watch it Witter." She punched him playfully.

"About time you got here."

"Ah," she scoffed. "Give me a break I just flew coach."

They both laughed as the headed to the place where her luggage was.

The announcer in the airport said over the intercom:

All passengers leaving on American Airlines flight 182 should board their planes now.

Lift off will take place in 10 minutes. All passengers coming off of International Airlines flight 175

from Tokyo, Japan, Welcome to Oahu, Hawaii.

<><><><><><><><> ;<><><><><><><><><>&l t;><><><><><><><><><& gt;

"So you're not going to college?" Kagome asked. She was sitting at the small kitchen

table in their apartment. (Yes they shared an apartment when Kagome came to America, cause

everybody knew they weren't going to do anything and they could be trusted)

Author's note: Just to give you an idea, the apartment has two rooms, one living room,

one kitchen and two bathrooms.

"Nope."

"Why not?"

"I don't have the money."

"Neither do I, I seriously need a job."

"You do?"

"Yeah. I'm not even sure how I'm going to get back to Japan, Mom didn't want me to

keep borrowing money-"

"You need a job?"

"Ye-ah"

"Why didn't you say something earlier? My boss, Tachi, at the recording studio needs an extra

person to help."

"Are you serious?"

"Yeah, and you were a DJ for Naomi's party one year right?"

"Well, that was like for 10 minutes-"

"10 minutes that actually had good music, that's good enough."

"Really?"

"Course, I'll bring ya in tomorrow."

()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()( )()()()()()()()()()()()()

"Morning Tachi." Kagome walked into the studio, her usual routine. She grabbed a cup of

coffee and started looking at a magazine.

"Morning Kagome."

"So, who's the hot-shot superstar singing today?"

"Eh, new band. Amateurs, call themselves Scene23. Gotta treat em' good though."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah." Leo said as he came in and reached for the coffee.

"Hey Leo." Kagome and Tachi said in unison.

"Hey. Tachi, I didn't get my paycheck in the mail."

"Ooh, sorry bout that, I sent it in a day late."

"Oh."

Just then a man who was panting and sweating profusely entered the room.

"We're doomed, all hell is breaking loose! We're going down!"

The three just stared, anime sweatdrops on their heads.

"Christy, from the band has a sore throat! We need someone to fill in for her or we can't

close the deal!"

"WHAT?" Tachi jumped, spilling coffee down his front, but paid it no mind. "That's

thousands of dollars for us!" Tachi turned to Leo and Kagome.

"What?" Leo gaped.

"We have to find someone else to sing." Kagome suggested.

Tachi, Leo, and the man all looked at her with a little grin.

"What?"

"What about you?" Leo asked.

"Me!?" Kagome jumped, not spilling any coffee. "I can't-"

"Great idea Leo!" Tachi slapped Kagome and Leo on the back, both causing them to

jump a little. "Thanks for being there Kagome!"

"But I-"

"Thank you, Thank you miss!" The man ran up to her and shook her free hand very

enthusiastically.

Kagome looked over at Leo who just gave her an innocent grin.

"You owe me." She mouthed. Tachi started talking to the man, and Kagome used this

as an opportunity to talk to Leo. She stepped away from the two towards Leo.

"Why me?"

"This was your dream since you were four right?"

"Yeah so? I'm not any good!"

"Yeah you are, you're great!"

"How would you know?"

"You always sing loud when you're in the shower." Leo flashed a boyish grin to show

that he was just kidding around.

"Gee, thanks, that's very comforting, Icccce." She punched him gently on the shoulder

and smiled too.

Author's note: Not really sure if `Christy' is actually a name of one of the band's members.

RIGHT AFTER RECORDING:

"Hey good job!" Someone from the band told her.

"Yeah, that was great!" another guy from the band said.

"Thanks."

"Hey, Maybe if Christy-" A girl started.

"Ahem." Christy stood at the doorway.

"Uh, listened to it, she would think so too!" The girl quickly finished.

"Thanks." Kagome said with a small smile.

"Bye." They all said randomly.

"Buh bye." Kagome waved. They all walked out the doors leaving Kagome alone the

Studio recording room.

"Hey, you were great!" Leo popped his head in.

"You heard me?"

"Yeah I came in during your solo in the beginning. And you said you couldn't sing." He

walked in the room.

"Was I really not that bad?"

"Duh." Leo smiled and pointed to the controls. "You should listen to yourself, I can't

believe you thought you were bad."

"Thanks." Kagome smiled.

"Look, uh, I hate to ask ya this, but, I have a date with Ciara, and um, can you clean up for me? I

promise I'll make it up to ya!" He put his hands together and looked pleadingly up at Kagome.

"Ooh, I see how it is, flattery then beg." Kagome smiled.

"Hey, you WERE good, and I have a date with Cirara in half an hour."

"Suuuuuuuuuuuuure." Kagome rolled her eyes but was still smiling.

"Hey-"

"Don't worry about it, go ahead I'll clean up here."

"Thanks a million." Leo gave her a quick hug then went the door. "I'll make it up to ya!"

He called out.

"Okay then." Kagome said as she tossed her coffee cup into the garbage smiling. She cleaned up, and

then looked at the controls. She stared at them for a minute. Then she flipped a couple

switches, pressed rewind, turned down the main volume, then pressed play. There were a few

moments of silence until she heard the crystal clear sound of the Guitar strumming chords and

then a voice came on.

'Is that really me?' She thought, she turned up the volume a bit louder. She sat in a

chair and just listened. Amazed that the sound she was hearing actually came from her.

"You're very good." Kagome spun around to see that one man, the panting and sweating

'Thank you for helping me' man, standing at the doorway with his arms crossed. The music was

playing in the background.

"Oh, uh thank you." Kagome was still getting over the shock of him being there.

"Was this your first time being recorded?"

"Yes, actually."

"Really? You were a natural."

"Oh, thank you, I guess it kind of helps that I record other people."

"Have you ever considered singing professionally?"

'Where is he going with this?' she thought.

"Uh, when I was little it was kind of my dream but I haven't really given it much thought

lately."

"Oh? Why not? You took the recording job didn't you?"

"Yeah, but that was only because I needed money, and I don't think I'm that good really."

He chuckled. "I think you're that good, better than most artists I've heard."

"Oh, thanks." Kagome turned the volume down. Turned off the controls and shut the

system down for the night.

"I don't know if you know my name or not, but if you don't I'm Fushi Takanaka." He

handed her a card.

"Takanaka?"

"Mm-hmm."

"THE Takanaka? THE producer Takanaka of Arista records?"

"Uh-huh."

"Oh my god." Kagome held the card in one hand and put her other hand to her chest.

"You've obviously heard of me?"

"Are you kidding? You've produced practically every great artist out there!"

He chuckled again. "And I would like to produce you."

Kagome shot her eyes up to Takanaka with eyes wide, her jaw was about to hit the floor

but she quickly closed it.

"You... want to... produce... ME?" Kagome's heart was beating so fast she thought she

was going to explode.

"Yes, you sound surprised."

"I-I am. Wow, I just didn't think, that I would have the world's greatest producer want to

produce ME."

He smiled. "You're good Kagome. Real good, 'Madison Square Gardens' good."

"Madison Square Gardens?" Kagome gaped in disbelief.

"Yep. Here, call me tomorrow. If you'd like to take the offer, I'll have a record deal for

you that we can arrange for you tomorrow. We can have you write original songs, and have

some written songs for you to start out with."

"Wow." Was all Kagome could say.

Takanaka smiled and gave another small chuckle.

"Uh, thank you. I'll definitely think about it." Kagome said with a smile.

"Talk to you tomorrow then. Night Kagome." He waved a little wave then walked out of

the room.

Kagome just sat in the chair. She didn't know exactly how long she was sitting there, she

didn't care. A million thoughts ran through her head at that moment. The last one she thought

before she sprang to the light switch, turned it off, ran to get her coat, and said goodbye to Tachi

before leaving was 'I have to tell Leo!'

Author's note: Because Kagome lived in America previously, she had U.S. citizenship

and Japan's citizenship. Just thought I'd clear that up. Also, because she accepted, she decided

to live in America with Leo, instead of Japan. Also, I don't know if I already said this, but Kagome and Leo moved out of his apartment and got a house on the beach.
