Chapter 10 - Breakfast Squabbles

 

“Morning all!” Shippo bounded into the kitchen, tail waving energetically as he rummaged through the cupboard and pulled out a box of cereal.

 

“Feh!” Inuyasha was staring into his coffee with a surly expression.

 

Kagome smiled and handed the teen the milk carton. “Morning dear.”

 

“'Morning Mujinku!” The twins chorused, heralding the newest arrival with evilly sweet tones.

 

“Mmfrgf.” He stumbled to the fridge and pulled out the orange juice and a box of takeout leftovers. Flopping gracelessly into his chair, he began eating, slowly waking up with each bite. Shippo flicked a cheerio at his brother, receiving a growl and a “go `way” in return.

 

“Aw, is the poor baby tired?” Inukuroko asked in false sympathy. “Did he stay up too late last night?”

 

“Shut up, Kuro.”

 

“Was he out with a girl?” Taiyuri chimed in. “Was the poor tired puppy out on a date?”

 

“Yes.” Finally fully awake, he added in an offhand voice, “Oh, bye the way Tai, did pops say you could go out with the redhead in chemistry class last weekend, or was that a different hanyou girl hanging all over him at the park?”

 

“WHAT?”

 

Mujinku smiled in satisfaction as his sister vehemently denied the allegations and tried to placate a fuming Inuyasha. Shippo winked across the table as the twins tried to charm their stubborn father. Kuro saw their smirks and kicked both boys under the table. “Ow! What? Was it something I said?” Mujinku made a large show of rubbing his ankle and received identical glares.

 

Unfortunately, his comment received other unwanted attention. “This conversation is NOT over!” Inuyasha told the girls. “Mujinku, come with me.” He rose and walked through the family room and out onto the patio. Kagome and his son followed suit. Inuyasha was staring at the Tokyo skyline, visible through the trees of his forest. “What were you doing last night?”

 

“Feh. I told you already. You're the one who can smell lies; didn't you know I was telling the truth?” Inuyasha raised an eyebrow. “Well I mean about walking Shitenshi home and meeting Shiori.”

 

“We know you were telling the truth, it just was a bit of a shock for us.” Kagome added.

 

“Yeah, it was a shock for her too, especially the thing about her now being 400 years older than you two.”

 

“Oh? Oh, yes, I suppose that she would be. Anyway, we would like to meet with both her and, Shitenshi was it?”

 

“Yeah, sure. When?”

 

“Today! Before you lose your watch with her again!” Inuyasha sounded more disgruntled than angry, so Mujinku merely chuckled.

 

“Alright, alright, I'll go call her and ask. Am I allowed to come or am I grounded for the next 5 million years?”

 

“Of course you can come dear, and then you can be grounded for as long as you like,” Kagome joked.

 

“Sweet!” He was lucky to have gotten away with no punishment. He supposed that meeting an old friend had overshadowed the need to ground him for eternity.

 

“Keh. You may be out of trouble, but I know someone who isn't.” Inuyasha glowered in the general direction of the kitchen. Kagome sighed but said nothing as her energetic spouse stormed into the house.

 

“Mom?”

 

“Mujinku, I know you've only had one date with this girl, but…”

 

“She's special mom. And I really like her, and I think she really likes me.”

 

“Well then, dear, I wish you the best of luck with her.” Kagome rose to her tiptoes and pulled his head down to lay a kiss on his bangs. “Coming?” He nodded and she turned and opened the patio door. Inuyasha's bellow clearly reached their ears.

 

“You promised me! An inu-youkai's word is BINDING, damnit!”

 

Mujinku grimaced. “Actually, I think I'll stay out here awhile longer.” Kagome smiled knowingly and disappeared inside.

Sorry folks, FFnet was not working with me on Fri and I couldn't post that last chappie. And I spent Saturday being sick and working, so to make up for my not posting a chappie each day for all y'all, you get three today!!! Yay!!!
