Chapter 29 - Countdown

 

“I'll kill them. I'll kill them very very dead. And then I'll give them to pops… no, better yet, I'll give them to mom and we'll see how they like that. She's scary when you hurt someone she cares for: even scarier than uncle Sesso when he's mad.” Mujinku cradled a quietly sobbing Shitenshi as he muttered threats on their captors. “They'll never hurt anyone ever again when we're through with them.”

 

Shitenshi nodded, wiping her eyes on her sleeve. “Ar-rig-gato, J-Jinku.”

 

“That's what I'm here for. To be cried all over all the time.” Shi lightly punched his arm. “Sorry, just trying to lighten the mood.”

 

“Baka.” Shitenshi sighed and snuggled closer.

 

“So when can we make a break for it?”

 

“They'll let us out in two hours to use the bathroom. Then we won't be bothered until morning.”

 

“First rule of fighting: never be predictable. How did these guys survive all these years?” Mujinku was disgusted with the demons' lack of planning. “I mean we could just break the window and leave at any time tonight and they wouldn't know till morning. Bakas.”

 

“I think they don't think that children, hanyou children at that, are smart enough to pull that off.” Shi giggled. “Besides, they think I hate you.”

 

“Do you?”

 

“Yes.”

 

“Really?”

 

Shitenshi twisted around and kissed him. “Yes.” She giggled.

 

“Fine. See if I ever try to save your life again!” Mujinku huffed, dumping her out of his lap and onto the floor.

 

“Excuse me? Who saved you from discovery when you tried to rescue me on your human night?”

 

“Yeah, but you kicked me.” Mujinku whined, rubbing his leg. “And you stole my milk.”

 

“Oh come on, that kick healed faster than all the stuff they did to me, and that only took a day.” Shi rose and stared out the window again, lost in thought.

 

“Wait, what did they do to you?”

 

“Huh? Oh, nothing much.”

 

Mujinku was suddenly suspicious. “Spill it wench.”

 

Shi turned and stuck her tongue out at the boy before looking back out the window. “I ain't a wench.”

 

“Fine. But you still have to tell me what they did to you.”

 

“Not much, I fought them off mostly, but at the end a couple of the humans got me. Nothing broken or anything.” Shitenshi shrugged, the carelessness in her voice implying that she had had worse.

 

“Specifically?”

 

“It's nothing. What did they do to you? You looked pretty bad that night.”

 

“Feh. I was a human; I couldn't heal myself. But they only hit me.”

 

“Well same here.”

 

“Riight.” Mujinku didn't quite believe her, but he didn't press. “Ok, time to come up with a plan to get out of here.”
