If Only You Knew

"Good Morning Tok-"

Thud.

Kagome cringed as she looked over at her now broken alarm clock. She sighed, knowing she had just broken the first of many alarm clocks this year.

`And it's only the first day of school.' She thought.

Kagome always woke up an hour before she needed to so she could get her morning dose of chatting on the computer. All her friends did the same thing.

`I must be early.' She thought, staring at her empty buddy list.

She decided to do a search to see if she could find anyone else from school online. She sifted through many profile before finding one that stood out. It was pink with purple font that said:

"Heya! I go to Shikon High along with my boyfriend and all my friends. send me one if you wanna chat!"

Kagome decided to `send her one.'

KuroiNeko: Hey, what's up?

KawaiiMiko: Just getting ready for school! ^_^ you?

KuroiNeko: Same. So, you go to Shikon High?

KawaiiMiko: Of course! Do you?

KuroiNeko: Yeah.

There was a long pause.

KuroiNeko: Hello?

Kagome began getting impatient. `Stupid… good for nothing… oh would you just answer!'

KawaiiMiko: Oh sorry! My boyfriend and I are just trying to get our baby around! ^_^ They can be such a handful!

Kagome gazed at the screen in shock.

KuroiNeko: Oh, uh, yeah, sorry I got to go! TTYL!

KuroiNeko has signed off.

Kagome knew that the only couple with a baby at Shikon High was Inuyasha and Kikyo. She once loved Inuyasha, hell, she still did. But he betrayed her and slept with Kikyo. The end result was their baby girl, Hitomi. Kagome knew Inuyasha had some feelings for Kikyo, but not that many. She sighed sadly and continued to get ready for school.

Kikyo wondered who she could have been talking to.

`Probably some nobody.' Kikyo thought, smirking.

"Inu honey, do you know who this person is?" Inuyasha walked toward the screen and froze. Hoping Kikyo didn't notice, he gulped out "Uhmmm…. No. No I don't." Kikyo was satisfied with his answer. `I was right.' Kikyo thought as she kissed Inuyasha on his nose. She then walked out of the room and into the nursery to get Hitomi.

Inuyasha still stared at the computer screen. "Kagome…" Inuyasha whispered to himself. He and Kagome had been best friends since before he could remember. He even loved Kags, as he called her, so much he had wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. She was the only one who accepted the one as he was, a hanyou. But when Kikyo, his then-ex, came crawling and begging for him to take her back, he just couldn't say no. Soon after they were back together, Kikyo came to him and told him he was going to be a father and then he knew he could never be with Kagome.

"Honey, can you hold Hitomi while I get ready?"

"Sure." He said, snapping out of his trip down memory lane. He looked at Hitomi and grimaced. She, for being his daughter, had none of his traits. What he found most odd were her eyes. They looked tinted with a color he couldn't quite put his finger on. Other than that she had black hair and look just like Kikyo. He sighed and yelled for Kikyo to hurry up.

Kikyo ran into the car while Inuyasha strapped Hitomi into her car seat. They drove to school quietly, as they had every morning. Kikyo sat there silent with her hand resting peacefully on Inuyasha's thigh. Neither noticed the lone girl walking toward the same school they were heading. And she was splashed by the water their car picked up.

"Why so glum Kag?"

Kagome jumped at the masculine voice and whipped around to face it.

"Oh Miroku! You scared me!" Kagome playfully hit his arm and gave him a big hug.

"What's wrong babe? You look sad." Miroku looked at the girl and frowned.

"Well, for one, I'm soaked. And two, I talked to Kikyo on the computer this morning. I didn't realize it was her until she said her and her boyfriend were getting their baby around." Miroku simply nodded. He knew all about Kagome and Inuyasha. After all, when they were younger, the trio was never separated. They knew everything about each other. But now it was only Miroku and Kagome. Occasionally the new girl Sango came around.

But anyway, he felt terrible about Inuyasha and Kagome. He loved Kagome more than a friend. And he hated to see her in pain. He sighed and hugged her again.

"Well Miroku," Kagome smiled through a sigh, "I see you haven't changed." She slapped him. He rubbed his cheek. "And neither have you my dear," he said smiling.

"You always know how to make me feel better." She smiled back at him. "I try Kagome, I try." He knew one day she would realize his love and come to him. He looked into her face and realized she was staring sadly at something. He looked to the source of her pain and saw Inuyasha pulling up with Kikyo in the passenger seat and Hitomi in the back seat.

"Come on, let's get to class," Miroku said, pulling on Kagome's arm.

Kagome smiled at him. But the smile did not reach her eyes. She held onto his arm and walked with him to first period.
