"We should have taken my Porsche." Sesshomaru muttered in his unusual cold tone from his place in the passenger seat of Inuyasha's Honda.

"Oh yes, Fluffy, that would have been great. You would drive and Kagome would get to bleed all over your passenger seat because you picked a fucking car that only has TWO fucking seats!" Inuyasha was more snappy that usual thanks to the icy fear tracing it's way through his veins. He couldn't explain why he was so worried and truth be told, he didn't' want to try. He wasn't so sure he would like the outcome his mind would come up with. So he chalked it up to the fact she was his neighbor and he really didn't need a dead neighbor.

Sessshomaru didn't fail to notice the spike of fear in his scent and even though he was usually quick to come up with some form of witty reply to Inuyasha's comments he chose to practice his mind blowing self control and not say anything. He liked to think it was because Inuyasha had the pedal pressed almost through the floor and didn't need any distractions for fear of crashing the car and killing everyone. Or at least the humans. But inside he knew it was because he understood his brother was incredibly stressed out and he felt a certain amount of pity for him. If his assumptions were correct, Inuyasha's life was about to get a hell of a lot more... Interesting.

They were on their way to the hospital. The moment the scent of blood hit Inuyasha's nose he had rushed past Rin to find Kagome had cracked her head open on her floor thanks to the ladder he had told Kagura to get rid of months ago. He didn't think, he just picked her up and walked out of the apartment. Rin and Sesshomaru stood in the hallway, Rin's face tear stained face looking at her friend in his arms with horror. "Sesshomaru, there's a towel on my bed. Grab it." He was slightly thankful his older brother didn't argue. He merely nodded and walked back into Inuyasha's apartment. It was a hell of a surprise considering he tended to not take being ordered around so easily. Still, Inuyasha didn't have the time to roll the monumental event over in his mind. He had a girl bleeding in his arms. "You," His eyes turned to Rin who sniffed a little and looked up at him, waiting for directions. "Follow me, we're going to the hospital." He didn't wait for her to respond, he just walked away, knowing she was behind him by scent.

They made it to the car and Rin opened the back door without him asking. She slid in first and allowed Inuyasha to place Kagome across the seat, her head in Rin's lap. Sesshomaru caught up with them a second later and handed Inuyasha the towel. Inuyasha took it without a word and handed it to Rin. "Press that against her head. She doesn't need to lose any more blood." Rin accepted the towel and again, followed instructions silently.

And thus they were in Inuyasha's little Honda going about a mile a minute and cutting people off violently to get to the nearest hospital. It had occurred to Sesshomaru while he was getting the towel that they could have just called the ambulance but Kami knew how long it would take for them to arrive. Inuyasha's Indie 500 driving could kick the shit out of any paramedics.

"Shit! Bastard!" Inuyasha screamed as a large truck slammed on it's breaks in front of him. He swerved and took to the side walk, praying people would move their asses the hell out of his way. He swerved back onto the street as soon as they passed the truck while coming dangerously close to hitting a short rather portly man in his fourties.

Three minutes later, Inuyasha took a turn fast enough to make the mighty and all fearless Sesshomaru grip the handle above the door tightly. The hanyou didn't even bother taking the driveway like most people would have. Instead he drove right up the curb and through the grass cutting precious seconds off of their travel time. He hit the brakes and swerved into a parking spot. It was slightly scary how much it reminded Sesshomaru of the American film Ace Ventura, which for a while was Inuyasha's favorite film. He probably practiced it. A lot.

Inuyasha almost forgot to put the car in park and was half way out of the door before he remembered. "There!" He snarled, throwing the stick on the steering wheel into park. When he was sure the car wasn't going to randomly leave it's place he jumped out and grabbed the handle on the outside of the door and yanked it open with a lurch. He almost pulled the door off of the hinges and he was sure something was now bent out of shape. Oddly enough, he didn't care. He grabbed Kagome once more and held onto her bridal style. "Keep the towel pressed to her head, woman." He didn't even look at Rin and barely waited for her to crawl out of the car before he began walking quickly to the ER doors.

Sesshomaru opened his door calmly and glided out with liquid movements. He walked around the back of the car and shut the bent door Rin had come out of. Inuyasha was lucky the girl was too absorbed in her friend to hear the door bending. Gracefully -or as graceful as one could possibly be while doing this- he bent the door into place and retrieved the key's Inuyasha had left forgotten in the ignition. Baka put it in park and would have come out only to realize it didn't stay due to idiot thieves. He had the right mind to put the keys back in it but then both he and the injured woman's friend wouldn't have a ride. He pocketed the keys and headed into the hospital with thoughts of Rin bouncing around in his mind.

Inuyasha held Kagome against his chest and rushed to the desk. "I need a doctor, she's bleeding!"

The woman sighed. He had to be the thousandth person to come up to her desk with some unimaginable wound that probably wasn't as bad as he worked it up to be. She held up a clipboard with about a million forms attached to it. "Fill this out please." She didn't even bother looking up from her computer screen.

Inuyasha was ready to explode. "DAMN IT, WOMAN! SHE'S BLEEDING! I DON'T HAVE TIMES FOR YOUR FORMS!"

He was about to swipe the clipboard out of the woman's hand when his brother stopped him with one word.

"Inuyasha." He had just entered the automatic doors to see his brother about to beat the hell out of an annoyed looking nurse. The last thing he needed was to be defending his own little brother against assult charges. Baka would probably end up blowing cover for youkai. He walked up to the desk looking dashing as ever in his black suit and white tie. It was time for business mode. "Woman. My name is Attorney Takahashi. It seems my future sister-in-law has been injured. Now unless you want me to call in proper authority to make sure this hospital is running correctly in caring for all of it's patients in a speedy manner, I suggest you call a doctor before my brother loses the person responsible for his very being." He didn't have to lay it on that thick and he knew it. But it was always fun to cause his little brother to squirm.

And squirm he did. Inuyasha stared at Sesshomaru in utter shock. 'The reason for my very being? What the fuck?! Now I'm in love with her?! WE'RE ENGAGED!' He gave his brother a look clearly saying they were going to have a talk later. It was probably going to involve a few punches and Sesshomaru's beautiful Armani suit getting the shit ripped out of it. 'Keh. He'd probably cry if I tore up his suit... Good'

The nurse blinked at the eldest brother in shock for a second before pulling away the papers. "Oh! I'm so sorry, sir! Right this way!" she walked out from behind the Nurse's Station and lead them down the hallway. "Doctor? Doctor Meyoga?" She walked up to a rather short balding doctor reading through a file and tapped him on the shoulder. "Doctor we have a woman here in need of your help..."

The doctor turned, took one look at Kagome, and paled. "How long has she been waiting? Why wasn't I notified sooner? What happened to her? SOMEONE GET A DAMNED BED OUT HERE NOW!" Now this was the kind of service Inuyasha was looking for.

"It seems your nurse didn't think it fit that my friend was brought to your attention sooner. She insisted my brother sign some papers, while his fiancee lay in his arms bleeding from her head. Is the way this hospital usually runs?" His voice was just as cold and emotionless as ever but it seemed to scare the hell out of the doctor. Rin, whom had been forgotten but still held the towel to her friend's head dutifully took her attention from Kagome for long enough to stare at the tall silver haired demon with awe.

The nurse at the desk was the one to wheel out a bed and Inuyasha laid Kagome on it gently. The second she was out of his grasp her eyes began to flutter open.

The world was blurry. Kagome opened her eyes fully but all she could see were dark fuzzy shapes. She could hear clearly, however. That was something, wasn't it?

"Kagome? Kagome?!" Inuyasha was still standing over her, touching her face and trying to get her to respond. Her eyes looked very unfocused from his point of view. Her eyebrows knitted together in confusion as if she were trying to figure out what was going on.

What is going on? She blinked but the world didn't get any clearer. "Wh-" Her voice wavered and didn't sound like her own at all.

Rin shoved herself next to the bed. "Kagome?" She cried. She didn't receive any response.

The doctor pushed everyone out of the way. "Kagome?" He hadn't gotten a chance to learn her full name with all the chaos. He pulled a pen light out of his coat pocket and shined it in her eyes. "Kagome can you follow the light?" He didn't get a response. "Kagome. Can follow the light?" Her eyes closed and she was out again. "We need to get a better look at her. Wait here." He signaled and three other nurses came to the bed and began pushing it down the hall.

Rin just stood there and watched her friend her unconscious friend being taken farther and farther away.

Sesshomaru noticed and caught her attention. "It won't do you any good staring after her. Why don't you take a chair?" He placed his hand on her shoulder to guide her away from the hall.

Rin blinked at him in surprise then allowed him to lead her away. All they could do was wait, right? She took the seat he guided her to which happened to be next a fuming Inuyasha.

Sesshomaru sighed inwardly. He wasn't going to give up on what he said earlier was he? He sat down on the other side of Rin for his own safety reasons. Inuyasha wouldn't go through her to get to him would he? 'Probably...' His suspicions were confirmed when the same nurse at the desk brought the clipboard to Inuyasha. Telling him he needed to put his fiance's information down for insurance

Inuyasha snatched the clipboard from his hands and glared past Rin at his brother. "You!" he hissed. "You're fucking lucky you're in a hospital! When I get done kicking your ass there will already be doctors around!"

Rin who was coming out of her shock looked at Inuyasha and pushed herself out of her chair and sat on the other side of Sesshomaru who due to body size pretty much blocked her from view.

Inuyasha leaned over her vacated chair and pulled his fist back, totally ready to give his brother a look of just what he thought of suddenly being engaged when Rin spoke up.

"Don't you have to do the forms?" The last thing she needed was to be in the middle of a fight.

Inuyasha blinked and looked down at the clipboard in his hand. "Fuck." He didn't know any bit of her information and it was probably safe to bet no one else did either. 'Looks like I'll be putting mine down. Shit.' "Can someone please at least tell me her last name?"

"Higurashi." Rin answered from the other side of Sesshomaru who had turned away and was now reading a magazine. In truth he was just trying to figure out a way to get to know Rin better without seeming close to desperate. "But I can't tell you much else... It's not like she tells me her information."

Inuyasha sighed but didn't answer. 'I figured as much'

It turned out Sesshomaru didn't have to spend too much time worrying about how to talk with Rin. He found she was so open and talkative herself so he really didn't have to say much. It seemed they were complete opposites but yet he was so attracted to her. She was small with dark hair and eyes. He was tall, broad shouldered with silver hair and amber eyes. She was open and full of life. He was closed off and seemed emotionless. It surprised him how much she didn't seem to notice his aloof tendencies. Most people started talking to him but gave up after a while because he seemed to be uninterested. Most of the time he was and he didn't give a damn. But this girl truly was interesting to him. She seemed to spark something in him he didn't know existed.

She was an Art major and had met her friends Kagome and Sango at the near by collage. She had met Kagome in a painting and drawing class which happened to be Rin's passion and Kagome's hobby. She also worked at a diner near the college she attended with the previously mentioned girls. Sesshomaru had made a mental note to visit this place and check up on her. She also loved chocolate ice cream, walks in the rain, and dogs. Lucky for Sesshomaru.

Sesshomaru had made a mental note of all of the things she said she had liked and disliked in his newly made 'Rin File' and even though she had fallen asleep a while ago her voice rang clearly through his mind. He glanced over at her and smiled inwardly. She was under his precious suit jacket sleeping soundly. And now she wears my scent. he smiled inwardly as he took in her beautiful scent which was now mixed with his. It seemed Inuyasha's life wasn't the only one getting more and more interesting.

Speaking of Inuyasha... The hanyou moved across the waiting room to get as far away from the scene of his brother and his neighbor's friend as he could get. He finally finished the papers and now he just sat there glaring, rather disgustedly at his older brother. Engaged... Fucking bastard. Now I have to pay the hospital bills of some woman I don't even know. He grumbled. What the hell is taking those doctors so long? He glared at his feet. What do I care? He asked himself. She could be majorly hurt. A small voice answered. He was beginning to hate small voices. No. It's not because she could be hurt. I just want to go home. I have work early tomorrow.

His inner turmoil was interrupted by the sight of the doctor that had been the one to take Kagome. Inuyasha's ears perked up under his hat and Sesshomaru gently shook Rin.

The doctor bowed to everyone before turning to Inuyasha. "It seems your fiancee has a concussion. She's awake now and is insisting rather strongly for us to let her go. Normally I would keep her over night for observations but since she has someone at home who can care for her I will discharge her early." Inuyasha sighed. He was digging himself a deeper and deeper hole with this whole getting married business. "We've had to stitch up her head and she shouldn't be moving around too much for the next few days except to go to the bathroom and to do other necessary things. I've written down all the instructions I've just told you as well as prescribed some pain medication. She is to by no means to sleep at all until-" He pulled out a pocket watch. "Let's see, it's about ten now... Don't let her go to sleep until about noon. If she has problems remembering things or responding bring her back immediately. Bring her back in a week and we'll check out the stitching situation. She should be ready by then to have them taken out." He handed the paper to Inuyasha. "She's in room 127, just turn this corner and go down the hall it's on the left right before the break room."

Rin smiled brightly. "Well! Let's go get her!" She led the way followed closely by Sesshomaru and further behind by a grumbling Inuyasha. This night just wasn't going to be getting any better for him was it?

They turned and saw Kagome laying in a bed with a white bandage wrapped around her head. She still looked kind of pale but it wasn't anything that wouldn't be gone by the next day. A nurse stood next to the bed pulling out Kagome's IV. Kagome looked down and paled even more. She hated needles. "She'll be ready in just a few minutes. We just have to take care of her IV and get her dressed." Her new found friends and Rin nodded and sat in chairs along the wall to wait patiently. The nurse pulled the IV out completely and pressed a napkin to her wrist to stop the blood. Kagome winced and studied the bedspred as if it were the most interesting thing in the world. Inuyasha nearly growled when he saw her wince. 'She hates needles, huh?'

When the IV was completely out the nurse slid the rail of the bed down and helped Kagome out of bed and to the bathroom to get her changed. Due to being knocked senseless, Kagome had very little balance. When she was fully dressed and changed, she brought her out and sat her back down on the bed so she could slip her shoes on. When she was completely sure Kagome was ready to go she smiled with satisfaction and headed for the door. She was almost out the door before she turned around. "Don't forget what the doctor told you." She advised. "And congratulations on your engagement." She motioned to Inuyasha who stared at her in utter shock and horror. "You picked a keeper!" She didn't even give Kagome time to respond. She just turned around and walked out, firmly shutting the door behind her.

Kagome blinked at the now shut door in confusion. "What was that all about?" She asked looking at her best friend and the men in the room. Rin stood up, still wearing Sesshomaru's jacket and pulled him with her. "Well look at the time... Gotta go! I'm so glad you're okay, Kagome. I didn't know what to do... Just remember. He saved your life!" She hugged her friend and drug the eldest of the brother's out of the room as fast as she could leaving Inuyasha to answer Kagome's question.

"Well you see- Sesshomaru- and I- and- The hospital thinks we're engaged and made me fill out your paperwork..." It all spilled out at once.

Rin and Sesshomaru stopped just outside of the closed door. Rin hadn't unlinked her arm with his and he looked down at her questioningly. "Why are we running away?"

His question was soon answered by a clear rather pissed and shocked voice from the other side of the door. "WHAT?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE'RE ENGAGED?!"

The nurse that had been helping Kagome paused in front of the couple waiting outside of the door. "Aww... They looked cute together too!" She fished a card out of her front pocket and handed it to the blank looking dog demon. "Can you give this to him? I'd love a date once he gets over the heart break..." She walked off right as more of Kagome's now incoherent yelling could be heard.

"Um... You want some dinner?" Rin asked pulling Sesshomaru along with her. He allowed her to drag him along only because it was her and because he would have rather been anywhere but near that door by the time Kagome came through it. He was sure Inuyasha wouldn't allow himself to the be the only one to get dragged down. Besides, it was Sesshomaru's idea in the first place.

A/N: And there you have it... I'm sorry if it's really short. It says it's over seven pages on my word program but It's noticeably shorter on MM... ~shrugs~ I have no one to thank other than my reviewers for this chapter... ~pouts~ No one was online for me to toss ideas at... I know this is just the beginning and all but I was considering later on down the road, doing a couple of spin offs giving a better look into Rin and Sesshomaru's relationship as well as Sango and Miroku's. Even though theirs hasn't even really STARTED yet. Trust me though, when it does start... You'll love it... ^^
