She was walking through the forest. Every thing around her was in bloom. Flowers seemed to look up at her as she walked by, a little ray of sunshine. She had wondered away from her Otousan, and now she couldn’t find her way back. Though this didn’t seem to bother her. Tucking a stray strand of ravens’ wing black hair behind her ear, she leaned over and kissed the petals of a daffodil. She giggled when it seemed to shudder in pure happiness. The little girl skipped on her way and paid no heed to her green hair ribbons coming lose and flying away in the breeze.
She came to a clearing in the trees which held a large, moss filled stump. She twirled in circles around it and started to hum. Springing coyly like a doe, she landed in the middle of the stump. “You look sad Mr. Tree…let me kiss it an’ make it all better.” So saying, she leaned over and planted a firm kiss on the surface of the stump. “There, all better.” She said quietly, rubbing her cheek against the spot where she kissed, then sliding off the stump and making her way from the clearing one more.
Had any one else been there, they would have noticed the small sprig of light green making it’s way through the surface of the once decaying stump. The girls light green dress was now dirty with moss and dead leafs clinging to the small amount of lace adorning her hem. On she wondered, stopping here and there to caress a lucky bloom, or whisper something to a tree, picking a small flower here and there. Until she made her way to a new clearing. With the biggest tree she had ever seen.
That wasn’t what made her eyes widen though. No…it was the sight of a young boy at the base of the giant tree that made her heart pound. Not in fear, but in sadness. He was crying. Great wracking sobs. His bright re cloths where torn, his hands where dirty, and tears where streaking down his face. He had long white-silver hair. It looked like it would one day be beautiful, but at that moment it was full of snarls and brambles. And to top it off, he had cute little doggie ears!
With no fear in her heart, she made her way to him. He was so into his tears that he didn’t notice her at first. She kneeled down by him, no regard for her pretty new dress. She lowered her hear and tried to look under his overgrown bangs. “Boy…why are you crying?” The sobs stopped and turned into sniffles. He tried to wipe the tear stains from his cheeks vigorously. “My parents when away to heaven, and my best friend is leaving, so now I’m all alone. I don’t have any one.” He said, tears building up in his golden eyes, threatening to overflow.
The little girl felt his pain. “That’s not true…you not alone. I’m here, and I’ll be your friend!” She said looking at him with sparkling brown eyes. To make true on her word, she pulled a small red flower from behind her back. “My name is Kagome, and my Okaasan just had a baby boy today…. And I’m picking these flowers for her. Here, have one… it a present.” She held out the flower for him with an innocent smile. The boy smiled and took the flower from her. “Thank you Kagome… I’ll cherish it always. And I’ll never forget you…never.” Upon hearing this, Kagome threw herself into his arms and hugged him with all her might, until she felt the tension wash from his body and he wrapped his arms around her in return.
Still holding him in her fragile arms she looked up into his face. “We’ll be friends always.” Then she leaned up and brushed a soft kiss across his cheek. She saw red stain his cheeks and she giggled. She wiped the last of the tears from his face and leaned her head onto his shoulder and turned her face into his neck against his pulse. No more words where said as they leaned against the base of the great tree and fell asleep in each others arms. The tree seemed to glow in happiness as it basked in the warmth of the innocence radiating form the two young ones beneath it’s bows.Converting /tmp/phpqBbalN to /dev/stdout
