A/N: I am sick and tired of the Sess/Kagura haters out there arguing that he only pulled her out of the water because Rin jumped in after her. Now I am going to show you what was going on in his head on that day. Flame if you must, but be warned that they will be disregarded and used to burn all the Sess/Kagome fics across which I have the misfortune to come.
Sesshomaru watched with seeming disinterest as the wind witch fell into the river below. Briefly, the water sloshed the back of her kimono away from her flesh, allowing him to glimpse the enormous hole there. Hm. That doesn't look good. In silence Sesshomaru stood as Kagura moved with the current. Should I pull her out? A particularly violent ripple tore her hair from its usual bun and a feather left her head entirely to float further downstream. I have a reputation to uphold.
A little voice in the back, way back, of his head spoke up sarcastically, "Good to know you'll still be seen as an emotionless prick after she's dead. You can even write that on her headstone. 'Died protecting Sesshomaru's reputation.' I'm sure she'd love that."
He narrowed his eyes microscopically. I thought I killed you already. The voice remained still in smug silence. It did have a point. Kagura, or my notoriety? The mental debate continued. That is, until he realized that Rin had splashed into the river to retrieve the wind sorceress.
Sesshomaru's jawline tightened in finality. I will not lose both Kagura and Rin for the sake of this cold facade. With that, he hopped into the chilly water.
