InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ In My Wildest Dreams ❯ A Dream? ( Chapter 1 )
Author's Note: My first fanfic! I haven't written a story in what… eight or nine years?! Crazy. The title, and my idea for the story were vaguely inspired by a Moody Blues song - In Your Wildest Dreams. I thought to myself… What if Kouga's dream came true?
Rated R for language.
Oh yeah, and I don't own Inuyasha.
Kouga flinched, but held his ground.
"Puny wolf, your stench is distracting me. Had you bothered to bathe this morning this fight would be over."
Why must they ALWAYS make snide remarks about my scent! I bathe, damnit!
The wolf cracked his knuckles and went in for the kill. His deft claws sought to expose the inner-workings of the panda youkai's chest, but all he managed was a minor scratch.
Shit, that fatass is tougher than I thought.
"You think that will stop me? Ha! I WILL have those jewel shards that you wear so teasingly upon your legs."
"This is boring. I'm gonna finish this thing NOW!"
Kouga erupted into a full-on charge. As he prepared to deal the panda a devastating blow, he was distracted by a familiar scent coming from the East.
"Kagome?"
And everything went dark.
"Shit, did I lose?"
"It would seem so."
Kouga rubbed his aching head as he sat up to survey the scene.
It was dark, and he was alone.
"I've been out for a while, I guess. It wasn't even noon."
"You've only been unconscious for a few moments."
"Hey, where's Kagome? I know I caught her scent. She wouldn't leave me like this."
"She hasn't. She's right beside you."
"No she's not, moron. There's no one here."
"I'm here."
"No you're not. Er… wait… Who are you?"
"I am me."
"Grr… None of this shit," Kouga growled. "I want to know who you are… and… uh… Where the FUCK am I?!"
"You are unconscious."
"Eh?"
"You have not yet woken up."
"I GOT THAT MUCH!"
"I see…"
"What's that supposed to mean?!"
"Never mind that. I am here to make you a proposition."
"What kind of proposition?"
Kouga folded his arms across his chest and eyed the darkness suspiciously.
"Perhaps it would be better if you held your comments until I am finished. Listen, and I will explain all."
"Fine, but this better be good. I'm missing out on quality time with my Kagome for this."
"Indeed, I think it will be well worth your time. To contin-"
"Eh, can't you at least show me your face? I find it hard to trust a man if I cannot look him in the eye."
"I am not a man, and I am afraid that it is not possible for me to show myself."
"You're a youkai then?"
"Yes."
"What kind of youkai?
"If only you would allow me to continue, I would explain everything," the exasperated voice replied.
"Fine then, go on," Kouga sighed.
"There is one thing in this world you desire above all else. What is that thing?"
"Huh? I thought you didn't want me to talk?!"
"Please, just answer the question."
"Well… to defeat that bastard Naraku, of course."
"You do desire that, but there is something - or rather, someone - that you desire even more."
"Just what are you getting at?"
"You love Kagome."
"Well that's a brilliant observation. I've only said it about a thousand times."
"Indeed. But few - including Kagome - realize the depth of your affections for the girl. They believe it to be nothing more than a superficial infatuation. A `crush', if you will. In fact, your feelings are very real, and run quite deep."
Kouga listened intently. He didn't trust him, but clearly this faceless youkai wasn't an idiot. Maybe he would be useful for something.
"You wish for Kagome to be your mate. You wish for her to love you. I can make that happen."
"How so?"
"I am a gift youkai, though I do not advertise the point. My reason for being is to grant wishes to youkai that I deem worthy, though I do it but rarely because there are so few of our kind that are deserving.
Naraku is a dangerous plague upon our lands. My powers are great, but I do not have the ability to invoke them myself. Any action I take must be the will of another. The one freedom with regards to my powers that I have is the ability to choose my master. I chose you because the opportunity revealed itself, and we share a similar desire to rid the world of that abomination called Naraku."
"But… what does this have to do with Kagome?"
"Ah, but that is my reward to you."
"Reward?"
"In allowing me to use you as a means to destroy Naraku, I will give you the gift of Kagome's love."
"Couldn't you just find anyone to do this for you?"
"No. The one I chose for this task must share with me a similar desire to eliminate Naraku. Without that, the wish would have no potency."
"So, all I have to do is wish it?!"
"Yes."
"Well then…'' He hesitated, "I wish that Naraku was dead, and Kagome was in love with me."
"And so it will be."
