“Before I was famous, before all the money and power. I had fallen in love with a young woman by the name of Midoriko.” Inuyasha breathed deeply. Why was he telling a complete stranger all this? He didn't know more or less couldn't figure out why but he needed someone to know the truth. Not all the bad crap that happened to him just sprang up.
“I thought she loved me. She was a miko but was classified as a witch because she used her powers for the benefit of her corporation. She gave me my job at her office when I first immigrated from Naples. My family had been in control of a small area of warfs and businesses.
Most of them had moved to LA to pursue the family business there. I was the only one who stayed and I paid for it. When I finally did come to the Americas, I found that my father had gotten into some money. It was so quick that some people grew wayward of the fact that we were honest people and drew to how we came into so much money.
Midoriko had gotten word of this and hired me on the spot as her intern. She seduced me and tried to get to the money my family owned. Well, she found out she was pregnant and she was too much of a “good person” to get an abortion. As soon as the baby was born, she transferred me to a station in London. Dios Mio! I was not ready for a child! But I gave her, Juniper, I gave her all I could give.”
His head hung low on his broad shoulders. Kagome wanted to hold him, comfort him, and give him some reason to find peace within this world.
“I met Kikyo and she began to do the same thing Midoriko did to me. But I was blind. I married her and began my empire. A law firm. I had no experience but I made that my first priority to get some.
I met Hojo on my climb upward between the snakes and liars of the business world. Demons and humans aside I thought he was different. My only friend since I left Naples. I trusted him with Juniper. One night I gave into my desires to make Kikyo mine.” His shoulders shook. His heart hurt more than anything.
“He drowned my child. She was just 2.” He began to cry. Kagome could not understand why all those people hurt him so much. His amber eyes, red from tears, locked into hers.
“She died in my arms cara. She died struggling to breathe. Her yes locked on to mine. She was asking me why? I didn't have a good enough answer.”
He felt empty. The weight of the world lifted leaving him squashed with emotions and regret. Kagome put her arms out to him and held him. She didn't know what to do. That little child died so young. Inuyasha had to bear it all on his heart. This man had done so much but felt so little.
Against her breast he stilled and rose to come face to face with her.
“I am truly sorry. I messed up your shirt.” Kagome shook her head. He wiped his eyes with the back of his hand. It felt somewhat good to let it all out.
“So even after all you went through Kikyo took all you had left to give.”
“Not precisely. What the poison was…it was more of a spell. I don't know any witches or mikos. Kinda sad huh?” He smiled lightly. Kagome saw the pain behind that smile.
“Well, I guess we aren't really strangers anymore.”
Inuyasha chuckled a little.
“Guess not.”
“Hojo was my first love. I was a naive teenager when we first met . At 18 my mother died in a plane crash. She was coming home from a business deal with some major corporation and the engine blew. He became the proprietor by default because I trusted him so much I signed over half of the family ranch to him. When I refused to `give it up' he got pissed and flew off to London.
I suppose that's when he met you. The ranch seemed to flourish then a drought hit us that we still have to pay for. We fell into bankruptcy and Hojo thought it was good to buy out the place and turn it into a Hotel. He had already convinced half the town to buy into his tricks. That is when he cheated on me with my cousin Eri. Dumb as she was she smelt a rat and did not like it. Although it was too late, she dumped Hojo. He however still had his vision to complete. So then he came back and told me he sold the half of the ranch he owned to a friend. I just hope he wasn't lying.”
Inuyasha looked at Kagome. Somehow, this web of deception and pain had brought them together.
“Why did he want this place so badly cara? Is there something you're not telling me?” Kagome's heart stopped.
“There is the family legend. It is kinda stupid but the first Higurashi who lived here was a bandit running from the law and stashed a lot of gold somewhere on this ranch. I think it's just a fairy tale.” Inuyasha sighed.
“My family has this sword. It's kinda like your family and that stash of gold. It's supposed to wield an enormous amount of power. But all I see is a rusty blade.”
They talked throughout the night. Shamelessly shared secrets. It was like being whole again.

Inuyasha awoke to the smell of fresh coffee and bacon. But it was five in the morning. It was quiet and peaceful too. He should be awaking at 12 in the afternoon. Listening to the sounds of rampant city life and the public radio stations. Then he remembered the gorgeous blue eyed angel that had given room and board for the next three days. He yawned. His sensitive ears picked up the sounds of footsteps from down the hall. He immediately fell back on the bed and played possum whilst the invader came into the room.
Kagome expected him to still be asleep. It just showed how different they were. She woke up at dawn to tend to the ranch. She already had her work clothes on and was ready to work. Although the tempting man down the hall seemed to allure her more than fixing an old fence and milking some half hearted cow.
He rolled over in his sleep, giving her ample view of his naked chest. No one's should have looked that perfect in the casting of the rising sun. Her silver tipped boots tapped on the floor as she neared the bed.
His white hair fell over his face like an angel. She smoothed it back and watched his ear twitch in reprieve.
She smiled. He was beautiful. Not even handsome could begin to explain how beautiful he was.
She didn't know what came over her but she pressed her lips to his. She was as in awe as he was when he opened his eyes. He leaned into the kiss and a sound like a purr vibrated through his chest.
Kagome pulled back as if she had been scorched. His lips fit hers so…dare she say? Perfectly. She quickly exited the room and nearly ran out side to get some air.
Inuyasha fell flat on his face as he tried to race after her.
“Feh, damn blankets.” He groaned as he lifted him self off his aching arousal. He had never felt such passion burn through him. That probably why he had always slept nude.
Ya' never know. Sighing he washed up and got dressed. He needed to call his parents to tell them he would be late. At least call his arrogant brother to tell him that he still sucks.
“Umm, Inuyasha?” Kagome's voice echoed from the kitchen. He walked into the room and went pale. Kikyo.
She stood with her nose in the air wearing her usual white blouse and black skirt. She was appalled to see Inuyasha in a one-horse town like this but it was kind of his style. Running off to places unknown in times when he needed to think.
“Inu! My darling! Jail was so cruel.”
“You've only been there for a week.” Kagome snapped from behind her.
“Go tell your maid that she needs to learn her place.” Kikyo retorted.
“She's my friend.”
“ Well friend or foe she's a frumpy little thing. Too bad she won't be at our wedding.”

Inuyasha's amber eyes widened as Kikyo leaned up and kissed him. The bile rose in his throat. How dare she! Pushing her back, he wiped her mouth. He felt like he needed his tongue removed.
“How the hell did you get here?”
She dusted herself off and ignored the fact that Kagome had begun to call the police.
“I traced your cell phone.” She held up a little black flip phone. Inuyasha snatched it.
“Who.”
Kohaku and Souta came in counting money.

“I have never seen this much dough in my life.” Souta nearly squealed.
“Your little friends found it in your car as well as that piece of scrap metal you call a sword. Come on now we have arrangements.”
“Not after what you did to me!”
Kikyo sighed then laughed.
“Darling the poison wore off days ago.”
