IN THE DARK:
Chapter 2 Blushes and curses
Kagome was the first one out the door when class finally came to an end. She was still blushing and she furiously believed that it was going to permanently stain her face and she'd be forced to wear layers of make-up before she entered that class ever again. She couldn't believe how she just bluntly checked him out and that the professor, of all people, told her to stop stripping him mentally.
'That's it! I'm sitting somewhere else for the rest of the year! Away from the silver hair and far, far away from the prof.'
It's not that she wasn't curious in meeting that guy; she just didn't think it was healthy for her. She was getting dizzy from her face sucking up all the blood. Yeah, definitely staying away, it was the most logical and less insane thing to do before she really embarrassed herself. She felt a little bit better after her new sitting plan and plucked her books into her book bag.
She threw the bag over her shoulder and pulled out her schedule. She had an hour to spare before her next class: Irish Mythology. She decided to venture out into the cafeteria and was planning to read over what she was supposed to tonight but things don't usually turn out how you plan them.

Sango was sitting at her table, staring at her lunch. She was fidgeting and casting a nervous glance around the room. She was fuming mentally but on the outside, she looked calm and relaxed. If you looked close enough though, her eyes would make anyone nervous.
'Where is he? He said he'd meet me here to show me around! I swear to Buddha if he doesn't show I'm gonna …'
"Hello Sango!" a voice chirped behind her. She creaked her neck to see Kagome happily walk towards her. She was glad to see someone she knew.
"Hi Kagome!" she replied in her own chirpy voice. They had met in High School and had become fast friends during that time. Kagome had been a true friend through all of her hard times. Sango had lost her family when she was 16 in a horrible accident. She had been the sole survivor.
Kagome's family had taken her in until she was 18, after she graduated, she moved out on her own. Not because she hated it there, far from it actually. She felt at home there and Kagome's family had accepted her as one of their own. She just needed her space and to be independent.
Sango watched the raven haired girl sit in front of her, asking her about her day and musing about her morning adventures. Sango had to laugh, that would definitely only happen to Kagome, she seemed prone to bring weird attention to herself and was a classic klutz. By the time her 'date' arrived, Kagome was blushing again and Sango had tears in her eyes from laughing so much. She had entered the 'laughing-so-hard-you're-not-making-a-sound' stage.
"Hello ladies" a deep male voice asked. Sango looked away from Kagome. Her eyes were still twinkling with amusement when they settled on Miroku, the guy she was supposed to meet 30 minutes ago to get a tour of the University.
"Hey Miroku!" she grinned. She was glad Kagome had cheered her up, she didn't feel like killing him anymore, well, maybe not kill him, but some kind of great physical harm had been in order at that time.
Kagome smiled at the young man, he was about her age and wore his hair in a small stylish ponytail that mainly monks wore in the Feudal Era. He had looped earrings, which made her wonder …
"Hey! Are you a monk?" she suddenly asked
He blinked at her, a little surprised. "Well, I come from a family of monks. I decided to not follow the family tradition but I still had to got through the motions when I was a child" he remarked, pointing at his ears. His eyes suddenly twinkled and an amused grin spread on his face. "Usually people ask me if I'm gay."
Sango giggled and Kagome blushed, again, and she mentally cursed for her reactions today. Sango just laughed harder, she knew what Kagome was thinking by the small frown on her face.
"This is Kagome by the way" Miroku shook her hand in greeting "but for today you can call her beets or tomato." Sango burst out laughing again as she heard her best friend curse her. Miroku let out a low rumbling laugh while Kagome just rolled her eyes in defeat and groaned. She was blushing… again.

Sango walked out of the cafeteria door with Miroku in tow. Kagome had decided to go find her next class and sit by the door to study. She had claimed that she wanted some piece and quiet to recover from her earlier trauma. Sango was half listening to him and trying to avoid the rush of first year students, being tortured by the senior students. They were dressed like babies and some looked like they wanted to crawl under a rock. The team leaders were just enjoying their power a little bit too much she mused.
"Sango?"
She whipped her head towards Miroku and smiled. "Sorry Miroku, I guess I should be paying closer attention since I did ask you to show me around." She let her smile turn sheepish in apology. Miroku just shrugged and told her it wasn't a big deal.
"The activities here during the first week are usually pretty hectic and very distracting." He cast a quick glance over the juniors, a group of girls were in their swimwear outside the window and looking a little nervous. One of the team leaders had an evil glint in his eyes and turned on a hose. The squealing girls tried to run away but slipped and skidded all over the mud, trampling over each other. Miroku sighed. He wished he were out there enjoying the show. He cast another glance towards Sango 'Well, at least she quite a fine lady, it's not a complete loss.' He continued on with the tour, naming classes, reading areas, and various areas that students generally hanged out. Sango merely nodded and made mental notes of the areas. She was pretty sure she wasn't going to be remembering any of this later.

Inuyasha turned to his right, concentrating on his schedule. He was grudgingly making his way through the halls, blindly trying to find his mythology class. He was getting close anyways, he reached the proper wing of the building, now he just needed to locate the room without wanting to break things out of frustration. 'This place is god damn big, a wonder no one's been found near death, starving and parched for water after a week here.'
He finally managed to find the room and looked down at his watch. '45 minutes to go before this class starts might as well crack open the books…' He settled himself against the wasll, crossing his legs and pulled out his history book. He hadn't even cracked the fist chapter before he heard steps coming down the hall. He looked up and smirked. 'Well, well, well.'
* * *
Kagome looked down to the silver hair man. She narrowed her eyes at him and bit the inside of her cheek. 'Oh shit! It's that guy!' She mentally groaned. The gods were against her today she could feel it! They were sitting there, plotting and laughing at her. He's not supposed to be here! The imaginary rules of utter embarrassment state that the object of your desire and what made you become a total idiot for ten minutes should completely disappear for the rest of the day! 'Wait? Desire? When did he move up to the level of desire?'
Inuyasha watched her face go from shock, embarrassment and deep thought in the span of thirty seconds. 'At least she doesn't seem to be hard to figure out' She walked passed him, still in thought. He watched her carefully from the corner of his eye, feigning interest in his history book, She had long raven hair that sensually hugged her face and shoulders. Her small body was thin, but healthy looking, like she worked out a little bit or went out for a run in the mornings. Her frown was quite delicious, it arched towards her nose, crinkling the skin, her mouth fell into a small pout of concentration and the deep blue of her eyes seemed to tingle with her thoughts. Her finger was lightly tapping the right side of her mouth. Her step slowed a little before she let her back hit the wall and let herself slide down the wall into a sitting position. She let out a sigh and started to dig inside her bag. She was definitely interesting.
"Hey"
Kagome looked up from her search, she had misplaced her pen earlier today after she had ran out of class like her skirt was on fire. She focused on Inuyasha, who was looking at her. She was taken aback for a moment. The deep gold of his eyes had suddenly managed to keep her from breathing. She blinked. Why does he look irritated?
"So, do you speak?"
'Oh crap! I didn't answer him!' She mentally groaned again. 'I'm such a space cadet'. "Umm … hi?" She said tentatively. 'Wow, massively brilliant, I'm sure he's floored with that answer'. He grinned at her.
"Did you lose something?"
"Yeah, my pencil" she pouted a little. "I misplaced it when I left class this morning." She looked down to her toes, fighting the hated blush threatening to creep on her. 'I swear to god, if I blush, I'm getting cheek transplants!'
"What did it look like?" Inuyasha could see her struggling with some inner battle and by the looks of it she was loosing. And she wasn't impressed with herself. His grin turned into a full-fledged smile when he noticed her cheeks turn pink. 'She's easy to fluster.' He picked himself up from his spot and walked over to her and plopped himself next to her. He just wanted to see how deep he could get her cheeks to change color. It didn't take much, her face turned crimson and he let out a small laugh. She turned her eyes to him and he blanched a little bit, she had a murderous glare. 'If looks could kill …'
"If you must know, it was a blue cliquey pen with silver glitter on it." She answered; her voice was strained with a bit of annoyance. His own eyes twinkled with mischief.
"You mean this ugly thing?" He reached into his pocket and pulled out a pen he had found on the floor. He had seen it fall out of her binder when she had hurried out of class. He handed it out to her and he heard her squeal with glee.
She grabbed at the pen and excitedly mumbled her thanks but he snatched it away. She turned to look at him, a question twirling in her eyes and he quickly said, "Only if you give me your name and phone number." He winked at her.
Kagome wanted to fall over 'Did he just ask for my number?' "Umm… sure. My name is Kagome. Kagome Higurashi." She held out her hand to him.
"Hello Kagome, my name is Inuyasha. Inuyasha Azidahaka." He reached out grabbed her hand in the traditional greeting. As soon as their hands touched a bolt of energy passed between them. It made their skin tingle. Kagome suddenly let go with a gasp of surprise.
"Damn that electro static stuff!" She giggled and turned her attention back to her book bag, looking for a piece of paper to write her number. She missed Inuyasha's small thoughtful frown. 'The last time I felt that was 500 years ago, when I first met Kikyo.' Inuyasha decided at that moment that he would find out more about this Kagome Higurashi. There was something important about her and he just couldn't quite place what it was.

They had traded numbers and gone into class, Irish mythology was fascinating to Kagome and more than boring for Inuyasha. Most of these 'supernatural beings' were youkai, and not really good ones at that. He had seen the creation of most of these tales when he lived there for a while, nearly 300 years ago. Class let out and he accompanied her to the Cafeteria, it turns out both of them had 5 out of 8 classes together and their schedule matched up for breaks. They had one hour between classes so they decided to grab something to eat.
Kagome noticed an open table and plopped herself down on the booth cushion, Inuyasha offered to take her order; she handed him her money and watched him stroll off to the food area. She sighed. This guy made her want to do things normal people didn't want to do meeting them on the first day. She mentally grinned. Yeah, she thought about sex with the guy, who wouldn't. From what she could tell he was well built, she had a strange fascination with his hair and his eyes would force someone to perform CPR on her. 'Maybe he could be the one reviving me' She giggled. Well, she had thoughts like that too! She hadn't 'done it' with anyone but she had boyfriends in the past. She liked making out and messing around, but that guy, the more she talked to him and stood by him, the more she thought about letting her thoughts go to the next level.
'I'm such a …'
"Pervert!" Kagome snapped her head towards the voice. Sango was walking towards her and she was in a rage. She laughed, he friend had unknowingly finished her sentence and the irony of it was too much to bear. "Why are you laughing?" her friend asked her with a tone that would of made anyone scamper, screaming for their lives.
"No reason. What's wrong?"
"That Miroku idiot."
Kagome starred at her in disbelief and amusement. "What did he do?"
"He kept ogling the women outside in their bathing suits wrestling in the mud!" Kagome laughed again. "Can you blame him? Even I would be starring!" Sango looked at her and sighed. "I guess. He is a man, can't help himself I guess."
"It's a curse, I swear!" Miroku chirped behind her. She turned around and tightened her hands into fists by her side. She was still annoyed with him, but decided that he wasn't worth her full-fledged wrath. He grinned. 'Good, she isn't going to hurt me.'
Sango was getting ready to open her mouth to let out a string of reprimand when she noticed a silver hair man sit next to Kagome with her lunch.
"Who's that?" pointing at the man.
"Oh! This is Inuyasha, the guy I was telling you about from this morning." Sango's eyes twinkled with amusement for a moment and presented herself to Inuyasha. She pointed to Miroku and Miroku only nodded in greetings towards the silver hair man in a familiar way. "You know him?" she asked.
"Yes, we live near each other, I have seen him around the neighborhood."
"Yeah, I know him" he winked at Kagome in her look of surprise. "We're not friends or anything, I just seen him around" She nodded.
The four friends spent the hour learning about each other, they separated to go to their respective classes and Kagome managed to not blush for the rest of the day or even humiliate herself. She was quite proud of her accomplishment. Inuyasha just laughed as she proudly told her tale.
: You are quite something:
Kagome paused in her sentence. "What?" Inuyasha looked at her. "What what?" his curiosity was peaked.
"I heard you say something like "quite something" but I didn't catch all of it, I was talking." She noticed Inuyasha's eyes grow surprised for a moment and then settle into … nothing. She couldn't tell what he was thinking.
"Oh, nothing I was just muttering about how much you talk." She rolled her eyes and continued on with her story, ignoring him.
He was shocked. She had heard his thoughts? He suddenly felt nervous and excited. That couldn't have been what he thought it meant? He watched her from the corner of his eyes while she excitedly told him a story about her shrine, arms waving, eyes full of light and laughter. He felt himself fall into step with her and decided to walk her home. He needed to speak with Sesshomarou.
