InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ In the End ❯ The Beginning ( Chapter 1 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Hi my fellow fan fiction people! This story comes from a dream I had, (weird ne?) not with the Inuyasha characters but since my dream just seemed to fit with the inu gang I decided to go for it. Maybe I'll post the original on Fiction press. Let me warn my fellow easily confused people, this particular chapter, maybe even a few others, of this story contains two ,count them , two stories. One past, one present. Trust me without one you wouldn't get the other. So when you see this:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That means story changing going on here. You may not get it now but soon you will. Alright I know this is an insanely long AN but that had to be cleared up so my easily confused people will know what the hell is going on. Don't worry. If I was not writing this I would be confused too.
So.....like ...had something else I wanted to say.....damn memory......this could take while.............
~*~ The great fight had began. Midoriko was shooting at his minions with her Flaming Arrows. Darc was somewhere off to her left slashing away with his great sword. Natsume and Kenji were on the other side of the battle field. More like a cemetery. Dead bodies laid everywhere. Their twisted features had nothing to do with their deaths. No, the Lord of Black Abyss had simply mixed and matched pieces of demons they had already fought and killed. The ground where they laid was bloody and small patches of earth were burnt with the fire and lightning attacks she'd used.
~*~ She looked toward the blackened sky and willed the rain to come and sooth the earth. Slowly a drizzling rain had poured over her body. She welcomed the comfort it brought, for it was the only she was likely to get for awhile. Maybe ever again if the didn't stop him. But death just might be comforting. No time to think like that, for if she failed the whole world would die with her. And that was something she didn't want to happen.
~*~ Darc ran up to her side. "Midoriko." he whispered, voice hoarse. She shook her head. "Not now, maybe later after we..." He shook his head with understanding moving as close to her as possible. "Until then..." He leaned his head down and gave a sweet but passionate kiss. He stepped back. "Let's go Midoriko. The time has come." Natsume and Kenji had rejoined them.
"You ready Midoriko?" Natsume naturally soft voice seemingly whispered. Midoriko shook her head. Midoriko started walking toward the only barren place on the battlefield. She could feel it. The presence of great evil. She turned to her friends. "This is it. We're here, shall we go?"
~*~ She took a look at the friends she had acquired, her first true friends, and her lover. The only man she would ever love no matter what. If he died and she happened to live. She would not hesitate to rid herself of the world, after she had killed him. The source of the world misery. And the only reason for her existence.
~*~ Kagome awoke as the light from a new day spilled into her small room and into her eyes.
She sat up in her bed and had a quick look around. Her room consisted of a small bed a tiny dresser that was almost completely empty. A small uncluttered desk in the corner with a basin resting on top. The walls and floor were both made of wood. Hanging on the wall was a small rug here mother used to have.
~*~ Mother. That name was a comfort to her. If only a small one. She quickly hopped out of bed washed up in the basin, changed clothes and headed to the kitchen. Once in there she began to take out the small pots she needed to make breakfast. A few more than usual since today she was going to celebrate. Kagome had lived her only family member she'd had, her mother, died a few years back. When she was ten or eleven. But before she died her mother had helped to get a job working in the royal castle. As the princess's personal servant.
~*~ She put on here shoes and walked to the door. Opening the door she was surprised to the servant of the castle, um...Shippo was his name, standing at her doorstep. "Why hello there, Shippo. What brings you here this early in the morning?" She didn't live in the castle, she did live on the grounds and close enough for her to be summoned when ever she was needed. Though most of the day was spent at the castle, she didn't want to live in the servants quarters, so as her mother's last dying wish Kagome had gotten this little hut. How she still didn't know.
~*~ " Lady Kikyo wishes for you to come to the castle immediately. Since the ceremony will be performed today, they want her to be prepared and well -dressed as to impress the gods or something like that." Although Shippo was still a small child, he seemed to be very bright and understood what most of the adults around him said. " Right now Shippo but I was going-" She didn't finish the rest of her sentence, before Shippo cut her off.
~*~ " Kagome you can grab something to eat at the castle. Lady Kikyo said she wanted you now and she had stressed that little detail quite efficiently." Kagome didn't need how efficiently for she had experienced it to when she was younger. The queen had thought servants and children were to slow to comprehend what she was saying so she'd beat it into them till they said exactly perfect. And even then she'd still beat them till they had memorized it by heart.
Kagome nodded her head and grabbed a shabby coat she had in the kitchen and quickly returned to Shippo. So much for her birthday breakfast......
~*~They had arrived at the castle in minutes. Shippo walked with her to Lady Kikyo's quarters. Though Shippo didn't need to escort her there, she knew the path by heart, he did because he had to report to Queen Oichi saying that he had fulfilled the order she gave him. Although Kagome showing up there was enough, he had to that for every order she gave him. So incase he did something she could beat him endlessly.
~*~ They had reached Kikyo's room already. She knocked on the large wooden doors. Well large was an understatement. The doors were at least ten feet in height and had to be four feet wide each. "Who is it?" Came the queen's high pitched but slightly muffled voice. The doors might be large but weren't very thick at all. "It's Kagome, my lady." A few seconds of silence. "Come in dear and hurry. We'd sent for you hours ago. This little brat must have gotten side tracked." She said disgustedly.
~*~They walked into Kikyo's room and as always Kagome was amazed. Every time she'd walk in here, she was breathless. Kikyo's room was as large as it was beautiful. A large bed sat comfortably in the middle. Pink and gold sheets and blankets adorned it. Off to the side was a beautiful dark wood chest was covered with beautiful designs of gold. A pretty over sized rug lay in front of the bed. It pink, gold, and blue hues had always captivated Kagome.
~*~Kikyo sat in front of the vanity mirror with a million maids surrounding here. Queen Oichi stood next to the bed. Shippo ran to stand next to Queen Oichi. She reached out to slap Shippo across the back of his head. Hard. " Get out of here, you sicken me." Kagome watched helplessly as Shippo scurried out of the room. Kagome closed the door since he was to small to.
~*~ "Now that Kagome's here all but two of you may leave." Her statement directed to the swarm of maids standing by Kikyo. They talked almost silently amongst themselves as to who would stay with the Ice queens. Finally deciding they were taking way to long Kikyo had pointed to two of them and sent the rest away. " Okay now that's settled, let's go on to make my daughter beautiful."
~*~ They had spent most of the morning preparing Kikyo for the ceremony with both the queen and Kikyo yelling at them for some stupid reasons. Her make up was flawless, her normally straight hair was slightly curled up at the end with a few spiral curls hanging in the front. She wore light pink eyeshadow, a light golden blush was applied gently to her cheeks, and she wore blood red lipstick. She wore a pink long-sleeved dress with gold hems and touched the floor. It had a simple but large bow in the back. As soon as they were finished, Kikyo went to Kaeda to go over the prophecy's incantation.
~*~As Kagome walked out of the room preparing to head to her hut, Queen Oichi had surprised her as she told her to stay and watch the ceremony. " I just wanted to make sure you watch Kikyo become something you only dreamed about. A goddess." And with that she walked out of the room gracefully. Guess it wasn't so surprising. She was just wanted to wave the fact that Kikyo was going to have these awesome powers in a few hours for the sky was turning pitch black. But it was only about 10:30 maybe 11. But she wasn't afraid of that although she should be terrified that the sky was becoming dark at such an early hour, she knew the prophecy as well as every one else knew it.
===================================
~*~ The prophecy had always claimed that the seventeenth daughter(*) of those born after the great sorceress, Midoriko, there would be another great sorceress who would be blessed with the gift to command the elements at will. She would be able to wield magic at a young age, but the powers of the elements couldn't be unlocked until her seventeenth birthday by the incantation of the elements.
~*~ The sky shall grow pitch black, middle of day, and colorful lights shall swirl around.
The lights will beckon to the holy spot where the great Furiae, the first great sorceress, rose to the heavens and the one with the powers shall stand, by the light of the gods, and recite the incantation:
Darkness weave a web of dispar
Flames as hot as one can bear
Raging land thrust stones high
White lightning descends from darkened sky
Spiraling wind comes with black intent
Rushing water uses it's strength
And light shines through darkest night
O' portal open, give me might
~*~ It had also said something about a great hero who would be born with the mark of courage on his body. He would have unspeakably power like the sorceress. And he'd help her dispel the coming evil that was approaching about this time. With the appearance of the shikon jewel that was bound to mean someone was going to try and claim it. But the sorceress was supposed to make sure that didn't happen. Even if it took her life.
===========================
~*~ Kagome wasn't exactly insanely jealous of kikyo like her sister was, Kagome just wanted to something great. But that would never happen because she was a simple servant girl. Oh well. Maybe she could skip the ceremony, against Queen Okuni's wishes. She winced. She didn't know what hell she'd have to pay for that. Maybe after the ceremony she could celebrate. Celebrate her seventeenth birthday.
