InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ In The Future ❯ Chapter 1 ( Chapter 1 )
Hey everyone! Well, this is a veryyy long one shot, which I split in to 5 parts, so that it will not show up as one big thing, that no one wants to read, (and because I want to make sure I have all my stuff set up right, my computer is going all odd on me again.)
So, please read and review, and updates will be quick and speedy! Thanks!
*Two years after Kagome falls through the well. (She would be 17, almost 18)*
Kagome smiled slightly as she handed the completed Shikon-No-Tama to Inuyasha. The hanyou dropped to his knees beside her on the dusty ground, and clasped the jewel in his clawed hand. "You can be a full demon now…" Rasped Kagome, leaning against his chest, exhausted from their battle.
'Yeah, that's right…I can.' Inuyasha thought, absently sliding an arm around her waist, keeping her from falling the rest of the way to the blood soaked ground.
*Flashback*
Kagome watched, firing purifying arrows, as Inuyasha dodged another attack from the powerful dragon youkai, and then her gaze switched to Miroku and Sango who were fighting back to back, cutting through the waves of demons who attacked them. Kouga fought, slightly slower, unaccustomed to not having the shards in his legs, and arm anymore. Sesshoumaru fought against his own set of demons but allied with a few, one of them being the Elemental demon Kagura, who seemed almost matched for strength with him. Shippo, Kirara, and Rin had been sent to the village, their protectors not wanting them to be caught up in what may be the last battle.
Inuyasha whirled, his father's fang arching through the air, killing 3 youkai at once. The hanyou fought his way to where his half brother was fighting, and gave a crooked half smile.
"Pity ain't it?" He shouted over the sounds of the dying youkai. Sesshoumaru cocked an eyebrow before calmly slicing a head off with his razor sharp nails.
"What is it that you find a pity?"
"That it looks like you won't be the one to kill me…" Inuyasha smirked, and kicked at a youkai. His half brother let the corners of his mouth twitch.
"No, trust me whelp. I shall be the one to rid the earth of your taint." His cold blue eyes flashed, and then he disappeared as a new swarm of youkai demons appeared.
"Feh…" muttered Inuyasha, looking around for Kagome when he could. His defenses dropped suddenly, and he paled with what he saw.
Kagome had both her hands on Naraku, a bright, pure pink light enveloping the two of them, as she used her power to purify him. The hanyou screamed in pain, as his skin began to smoke, then began to boil, as if containing water. Within a few moments, he exploded, but the pieces dissolved in to dust before even touching the ground.
All around them, the youkai dissolved, and as soon as a path was cleared, Inuyasha sheathed his kantaa darted forward to where Kagome was standing. The young girl swayed before falling stiffly to the ground. Inuyasha caught her, and heard the rest of their group shouting their names.
** End Flashback**
'A full demon…' Inuyasha mused as he felt Miroku lay a hand on his shoulder, and he saw Sango walk over out of the corner of his eye.
"INUYASHA!!" An unwelcome voice cried out. All turned to see Kikyo standing there with an arrow notched, wind blowing her hair so it billowed around her. "It is time." She said simply.
Inuyasha's eyes widened, and he realized what she meant. Kagome stiffened, and instinctively moved closer to the hanyou, her hand gripping his red fire rat coat. "You can't…you…" Kagome whispered weakly. "What about…the Shikon jewel? You have to make…" Amber eyes turned down to meet her own chocolate brown ones, ones that pleaded with him to change his decision.
"I promised…" he murmured, trying to convince him as well as her. He pulled away from her and was about to stand when Kikyo suddenly gave a sharp cry, and began to collapse in on herself. Clay and bones hit the ground, all that was left of the priestess. In her place stood a beaten, bloody, and yet oddly defiant Kagura.
"Kikyo…" Inuyasha whispered out, closing his eyes. "Kikyo!"
'Inuyasha, fear not, for she was able to do what I have wanted; yet not been able to achieve. I am finally free now…' came the voice, hovering on the wind, before disappearing completely.
It seemed that only the demons heard, because Kagura gave a weak smile, before collapsing, Kouga snarled silently, Shippo shook his head, Inuyasha took a deep breath, and Sesshoumaru gave a sniff of indifference, and then walked off, he was going to get the Tetsusaiga another time.
Kagome felt her vision waver, and then a pair of arms lift her up. Expecting to see amber eyes, she was surprised to see violet ones. "W-what are you doing houshi-sama?" Kagome rasped, her voice going out from taxing use.
"Inuyasha-sama's arm is currently unusable, and you are unable to walk." The monk flashed her a grin. "It seems only logical that I take you…"
"Whatever. How's your hand?" Kagome asked, nestling her head in to his robes. Soon she felt a familiar hand squeeze her backside, quite a feat while still holding her up.
"Quite all right Kagome-sama. Wouldn't you agree?" the monk shot her a playful smile, which made her roll her eyes. "And Sango, I know you are thinking of hitting me, but think of Kagome-sama, if you hit me and I dropped her…"
"Don't worry Houshi-sama, I'm sure you will deserve it later on…I'll just get you twice." Sango commented dryly, shouldering her boomerang, Hiraikotsu. "Where's Kouga?"
Inuyasha clasped a hand to his bleeding wound, the other hand, holding the Shikon Jewel, and searched for him. "There." He grumbled.
Kouga had the elemental youkai in his arms, a cold, calculating look on his face. Kagome lifted her head to look at him, and shivered at the look of cold fury on his face. The wolf prince walked toward them, and as he passed them, Kagome asked the question they all wanted to know. "What…what… are you going to do with her?"
Kouga turned to her, his cerulean blue eyes holding rage, but also sorrow. "I'm takin' her to my pack. She slaughtered most of 'em, and they deserve to pass judgement."
Inuyasha nodded, he understood pack law, and he knew that the penalty would most likely be death by the mates of those who were slaughtered. Miroku looked down, Sango fiddled with a loose string on her outfit, and Kagome opened her mouth. "But…"
Kouga shook his head. "It's no less then she deserves." He sent a resentful look at the bleeding youkai in his arms. "No less…" but this time, he seemed to be trying to convince himself. "I'll be back for my woman, dog-breath." And he rushed off in a whirlwind of dust.
Inuyasha growled, and felt Kagome tug softly on his forelock, getting his attention.
"Make your wish…" Kagome, said softly, looping her arms around the monk's neck, a small smile on her lips.
Inuyasha nodded. He held out the jewel, and made his wish. "I wanna be a full demon, what I would be, had I not had a human mother. And I wish for the Shikon-No-Tama to be purged of all its evil." The pink light flashed brilliantly; and then…
Intense power flooded through his veins as his youkai blood rose, and began to purge his human blood. Two purple stripes appeared on his cheeks, and his eyes flashed red once, before becoming the normal amber. His blood seemed to be too hot for a moment, and then it went back to normal. Inuyasha kept a hold of the jewel the whole time, but was stunned when he felt it begin to shrink slowly in his hand.
"Kagome- what the…." Inuyasha swore as he turned and saw Kagome do something odd. Her image seemed to fizzle, fade out, before becoming solid again.
"I-Inuyasha…I don't…feel so good…" Kagome mumbled, her grasp around Miroku's neck loosening. The monk, demon hunter and hanyou-turned-youkai looked at her. Her image faded again, and this time did not come back as solid. Kagome's eyes fluttered shut, and by an act of pure desperation, she opened them again.
"Kagome!" Inuyasha shouted, reaching out to her. Kagome cast a single frightened look at him, before disappearing entirely, along with the Shikon-No-Tama. Miroku dropped his arms, his face pale and drawn. Sango put a hand over her mouth trying to hold back the sobs that threatened to spill from her throat.
Inuyasha stood like that for a moment, his eyes wide in disbelief, before clenching both his fists, his nails digging in to his palms.
"NOOO!" his outraged howl of pure anger, sadness and helplessness echoed through the almost empty battlefield. He fell to his knees, tears welling up in his eyes, threatening to spill for the first time since his mother died.
* * * * * * * *
Kagome awoke with a gasp. She panted for a breath, as she looked around… her room? "No…" she hissed in fear, and darted out of bed, and ran down the stairs, past her mother who looked confused as to why her daughter was back so early.
Kagome whipped open the door to the well house her sock clad feet collecting dirt along the way, and vaulted in, dropping to the bottom with a groan of pain. She had landed, rather painfully, but not where she had so hoped she would. She was still back in her time. Kagome sniffed, and then fell to her side, curling up in a ball, and began to sob.
* Two days later *
Quiet, and stiff, Kagome walked with her friends the next day, heading for school.
"And did you see Janu?" Tittered Eri. "He actually smiled at me yesterday, totally hitting on me…"
"Oh, right…" Said Yuri condescendingly. "He was not…"
"Hey, did you guys hear who our new History teacher is? Sensei has retired, finally, and we have a new one that is coming in today." Ayame said excitedly. Kagome shuffled her feet a bit, and then looked up.
"I have history first, I'll tell you guys who he is, and maybe he will be lenient on me for being so sick." Kagome said softly.
Ayame smiled at her friend. "I have class with you too, baka."
Kagome smiled slightly, and nodded. "My bad."
*
Kagome sat in her seat, waiting for the teacher to come in. Students chatted eagerly about who the new teacher could be, but nothing could prepare Kagome for who would walk through the door.
She doodled absently in her sketchbook, a habit she had acquired since returning to her world, and she was very good. Her pencil scratched over the white paper, drawing a sharp angular face, with large expressive eyes, shadowed under long bangs. A crooked smile on his lips, and an eyebrow cocked completed the human portrait of Inuyasha. Ayame looked over her shoulder, a coy look on her face.
"Ohhh. Who's the hottie?" she asked, grinning. Kagome sighed.
"Just an old friend, who I'll never see again, he lives very far away." Kagome closed her book, and leaned on an arm. Well at least that's the truth…
"Oh... Sorry. You're really good at drawing though." Ayame commented. "Oh, here he comes!"
Kagome didn't bother to look up, too lost in her thoughts of Inuyasha. 'That's right. I won't ever see him again.'
"Hey! Kag-girl, look, he's hot!" Ayame hissed, elbowing her friend. Kagome rolled her eyes.
"Ayame-chan, you think every guy on the face of- Oh dear Kami…" Kagome gasped. "SESSHOUMARU!"
The sliver haired man looked up and over at the student who addressed him so familiarly. Hazel eyes widened. "You…"
"I don't believe it! You are a teacher!" Kagome resisted the urge to crack up in hysterical laughter. "Y-you! Of all people."
"Sit down, I will speak to you in private." Ordered Sesshoumaru, eyes narrowed. Kagome snickered, and sat down.
The rest of class, gave her odd looks, as if wondering if while she was sick, she also lost her sanity. As the bell rung, Ayame grabbed her arm and whispered. "He's cute! Please introduce meee?"
"NO!" Snapped Kagome, knowing that Sesshoumaru could hear. "He's not cute, and he is not someone to date."
Ayame sighed. "Fine…. I'll see you later."
"NO eavesdropping Ayame-chan." Kagome tiredly said, approaching Sesshoumaru's desk, a small smile on her lips. Sesshoumaru looked almost the same as he did 500 years ago, with the exception of the face markings, fingernails, and hazel eyes.
'WHY? Why me?' Sesshoumaru thought, closing his eyes, wishing he were anyone or anywhere else.
"So, how did you get to be a teacher…of all things?" Kagome asked. "and HERE??"
"It pays." He answered.
"Just as chatty as usual. I think that the only things you can say is that, and "Die Inuyasha" or "Stupid hanyou." Honestly, I thought that being a great youkai lord would make you a tiny bit more eloquent."
"Big word human." He spat.
"Ohhh. I'm scared. You can't attack me in public, and you know it." She paused in her taunting. "And what happened to all your face thingies and youkai stuff?"
"Magic. And you are correct in assuming that I am not able to attack you in public, trust me wench." He leaned forward. "But, little girl, I can assign so much homework, you will wish I took you apart, and chopped you in to even smaller pieces."
Kagome sighed. "Fine. But…" Kagome decided to ask the question she had been wanting to since she had seen him. "Sesshoumaru- did…Inuyasha make it…?"
Sesshoumaru rolled his eyes. "Yes, the whelp made it. Him, the wolf, and your little kit are all alive, or at least they were since the last time I met them. You've not seen them?"
Kagome shook her head, and then gasped as she heard the bell for class ring. "Oh no! I am late…I have to go." She took off, running through the halls, leaving a confused and annoyed Sesshoumaru behind.
