Chapter 6

Inuyasha had treated Kagome cruelly before by saying mean things to her and being rude to her, but this was more than she could handle. Never in a million years, in all of her worst nightmares, did she ever think something like this would happen. She never imagined he would be so…so…she couldn't even think of the words to describe it. Mixed emotions flooded her brain and made her dizzy. Her head was spinning and all she could do was give Inuyasha a look of hurt and sadness as if to ask him "Why?"

After Kagome's reaction to Inuyasha's haori, not one of them said a word to each other. They all just stood there waiting for Kagome to regain her composure so they could return to camp. Inuyasha stood with his back turned to her, hot tears streaming down his face. `I would never hurt you, Kagome,' he kept telling himself over and over. `I didn't know what I was doing.' Sango had finally knelt beside Kagome and began covering Kagome in her clothes. At first, Kagome didn't move, but eventually she began to help Sango and soon was dressing herself. She had to admit that she was shivering though she was quite sure if it was because she was cold or if it was because of what had just happened. She concluded it was probably a little of both. Kagome stood fully clothed and, without saying a word to anyone, began walking back to camp. Sango followed her and Miroku started to do the same before looking at Inuyasha to see if he was coming. Inuyasha had heard them stand and start walking. He sighed and turned around to walk with them. He hung his head so his bangs shielded his face from view as he began walking slowly to camp. Miroku waited for him so he could walk beside him. As they began walking, Inuyasha suddenly realized that the scent of salt had suddenly gotten stronger. He tore himself from his own thoughts to look up and find Kagome leading the group. She was sobbing and hanging her head so the tears could drop freely to the ground. Inuyasha turned his head quickly. It was too much for him to handle.

Meanwhile, Kagome's thoughts were spinning in her head. `I need an explanation for all of this,' she thought. `Even if the explanation doesn't make sense, I just want to pretend that none of this ever happened.' She continued to walk solemnly as her tears grew in number. Feelings of hurt, sadness, regret, shock, and love swirled through her body each one fighting for dominance. `I don't know what to do!' her mind screamed. `Why did this have to happen?!' Not only was Kagome mentally hurt, but she was physically hurt as well. The scrapes and bruises on her body were nothing compared to the pain that screamed from her womanhood. Inuyasha could sense Kagome's distress.

"I can't take this anymore!" he said suddenly to Miroku as he turned to take to the trees. Miroku stopped him by grabbing his arm.

"Wait Inuyasha!" Miroku begged. "Myouga is back at camp and I'm sure he can offer an explanation to all of this." Inuyasha gave him a puzzled look.

"Myouga?" he questioned. `That damn flea better know what the hell happened back there!' he thought. Inuyasha looked up ahead at Kagome.

"Miroku, I just can't take this anymore! I didn't mean to do it!" Inuyasha said painfully. "You know that I would never hurt Kagome! I have no clue what happened back there! I can't stand to see her like this!" Tears began to flow again as he looked at Kagome once more. Miroku patted his friend on the back.

"Look, let's just get back to camp and see what Myouga has to say, okay?" he coaxed.

Back at camp, Shippo and Myouga sat around the fire.

"Is Kagome going to be alright?" Shippo asked. Myouga gulped and began to sweat. He really didn't know the answer to that question, but does he tell the kit that?

"I really don't know, but I am sure she will be," Myouga replied. Suddenly, everyone came into view.

"Kagome!" Shippo yelled excitedly. His face fell, however, when he noticed her disposition. He looked back at Sango, Miroku, and Inuyasha only to find three more long faces.

`They were too late,' Myouga thought. Neither of them said a word as Kagome sat next to the fire staring into it blankly. Myouga stared at the poor girl sympathetically. Her expression confirmed that the worst had happened. Myouga looked up to Inuyasha and the others. Miroku and Sango both looked as if they had no idea what to do. Their expressions were filled with depression and anxiety. Inuyasha's face held only disbelief and sadness as he stared blankly back into the forest. Tears filled the corners of his eyes ready to fall at a moment's notice. Everyone sat down in their respectful places and said nothing. They all sat there for a few minutes without a word until Miroku finally broke the silence.

"Well, we can't exactly sit here like this all night long," Miroku said. Inuyasha glanced at Kagome out of the corner of his eye. She hadn't moved a muscle and still stared blankly into the fire. It was almost as if she was in shock. Inuyasha wanted to walk over to her and comfort her, but since he was the one who caused her to be upset in the first place, he knew it wasn't such a good idea. Miroku continued to eye everyone.

"Hello?" he said as if trying to bring everyone back to reality. Sango frowned and looked at him.

"What do you want us to say, Miroku?" she asked flatly. Miroku was a little taken aback by her tone, but he knew she was right. What do you say in a time like this?

"What happened?" Myouga suddenly said. Miroku and Sango exchanged glances. "It's okay if you want to wait to tell me." Sango looked at Kagome's condition. She was so out of it that she probably wouldn't even know they were talking about her. Sango sadly began to relay her knowledge of the situation thus far, from when she and Miroku found Inuyasha on Kagome to the present. Myouga gasped and looked up at Inuyasha. Inuyasha's tears were now falling down his face.

Myouga looked at Kagome. She hadn't budged. He then proceeded to ask a very stupid question.

"Lady Kagome, are…are you okay?" he asked her. Everyone looked at her, but Kagome's expression didn't altar in the slightest when she answered him.

"How would you feel if you had just been raped?" she sadly replied. Inuyasha flinched and his ears laid flat on his head in shame.

"Kagome, I didn't meant to…" Inuyasha began to plee, but Kagome's cold stare stopped him from speaking. She glared at him.

"SHUTUP!" she shouted at him. "Don't you ever fucking talk to me or touch me again!" She stood up and walked over towards him. Miroku and Sango stood up as well. They had no idea what she was about to do. Hot tears flowed down her face as she looked at Inuyasha with more hate than they had ever seen Kagome's eyes possess.

"Do you even know what you did to me back there?!" she demanded. "Do you know what my life is going to be like from now on?! Do you realize you could have killed me back there? Damnit Inuyasha! You should have just killed me! Now I have to live feeling completely dirty for the rest of my life!!! This is the worst feeling I have ever had and you caused this…you caused this…DAMN YOU INUYASHA!!! DAMN YOU!!!"

She leapt at him, but Sango and Miroku were there to hold her back. She struggled and screamed in an effort to get them to release her. Her face was red in anger and hot tears continued to roll down her cheeks. She had snapped. She had literally lost the little bit of composure she had.

"Calm down, Kagome!" Sango demanded. "Everything will be alright! I promise! Just please calm down!" Miroku and Sango brought her back to her original spot struggling to get her to sit down. Inuyasha watched the scene in horror. He had never heard Kagome speak that way…ever! He had never scene Kagome act that way before either. The only time Kagome had ever been that irate was when she was fighting Naraku. Inuyasha ears lay flat on his head. His face held shock, horror, and sadness. Finally, Miroku and Sango managed to get Kagome to sit down. Kagome buried her face in her knees and started crying hysterically. Sango gently rubbed her back. Miroku sat down. He looked up to find Inuyasha frozen. Inuyasha wasn't moving a muscle. He just stared at Kagome unsure of what to say or do. Kagome's words had stung him like daggers to the heart.

"Kagome, I…" Inuyasha began, but stopped when Sango have him a look that said don't say anything. Inuyasha's ears lay practically plastered flat against his head. He had never felt so much shame…so much remorse…so much pain. `I really didn't mean to do it!' he said to himself over and over again. Sango and Miroku looked up to Inuyasha for a split second and realized that Kagome wasn't the only one in pain. Nothing compared to the pain of being raped, of being robbed of your innocence, but Inuyasha's pain came about as closed to that as you could get. Sango had been rubbing Kagome's back in an effort comfort her while Miroku said soothing things to her. Both of them now had their full attention on the hanyou.

"You okay, now?" Sango whispered to Kagome. Kagome nodded her head. She was now down to a quiet sob. She was no longer hysterical. Sango rubbed her friends back one more time before getting up and walking over to Inuyasha. Miroku rested his head against Kagome's, patted her back, and then stood to follow Sango. Sango and Miroku walked over to Inuyasha. Inuyasha didn't move. At that point, he didn't care if Miroku and Sango had come to kill him.

"Inuyasha, there's something you need to know," Sango began. "And we will tell Kagome once she is in a better state of mind. Right now she is too hysterical to comprehend anything I would say." Inuyasha nodded his head somberly. Sango looked at Miroku for help.

"The thing is Inuyasha…" Miroku began, but stopped when he saw Inuyasha's weird expression. He looked scared…and was looking past them. Miroku followed his gaze to find…

"Kagome, no!" Sango shouted. There Kagome stood with an arrow drawn back on her bow ready to fire. Its target was Inuyasha. Sango and Miroku immediately reacted and jumped in front of Inuyasha.

"Get out of the way guys!" Kagome shouted hysterically through her tears. Shippo and Myouga were frozen. No one had ever seen Kagome act like this before.

"No, Kagome! You can't do this! This isn't the way to resolve things!" Miroku said.

"I'll be the judge of that!" Kagome retorted. "Now step aside!"

"No!" Sango and Miroku said in unison.

"Just do what she says," Inuyasha said from behind them.

"What did you say?" Sango asked.

"I said do what she says," Inuyasha said walking between Miroku and Sango so that he stood in front of them. "Shoot, Kagome." Everyone gasped.

"What???" Kagome asked in confusion. `Did he just tell me to shoot him?' she thought to herself. `But why?'

"I said shoot," Inuyasha repeated. "I don't deserve to live after what I did to you. So shoot me. I hurt the only person I have ever really cared about in the worst kind of way. I deserve to die." He stood there staring straight at her…waiting for her to release her arrow. She began to shake. She wasn't even holding her bow and arrow steady anymore. Kagome stared at him for a minute unsure of what to do. Her mind was blank. Never in a million years did she imagine that he would be so willing to die. `Something just doesn't seem right here,' she thought. `I need to find out what.'

"Kagome," Shippo squealed through his tears. She looked at him and he shook his head. "Don't." Kagome's tears began to flow like rivers down her cheeks as she let down her bow and arrow and fell to her knees crying. Sango and Miroku ran over to her, partly to check on her and partly to make sure she didn't try to do that again. Kagome continued to cry in Sango's arms until her body went limp. She had passed out. Miroku checked her vital signs quickly. Inuyasha ran over to them. He knew Kagome didn't want him anywhere near her, but he couldn't help but still be concerned about her.

"She's just passed out," Miroku said with a sigh of relief. Inuyasha and Sango breathed sighs of relief as well. Miroku glared at Myouga who began to sweat. "Myouga, I believe you have a lot of explaining to do."
