Nightmare:
Three weeks ago:
One Saturday afternoon you can find two women sitting at a café. One was a tall black woman with long black hair and a frown on her pretty face; the other was a short woman with blonde hair with a look of desperation on her face.
“Nice disguise Kag, you really look hot as a blonde. The wig looks almost real. Should I have worn a disguise as well?” Charlie asked sarcastically.
“No, they think that you're a man, so this is fine.” Kagome muttered to her friend.
“Are you sure this is what you really wanted to do? This is your last chance to change your mind.” asked Charlie as she looked around in mild confusion. “The rainforest is a quite the adventure, heck I love going through it, but Kagome, your not the type. You're a fashion person. You're not a camping gal; you're a hotel resort type of girl. Why not disappear in The U.S. or even in Europe somewhere. It's a whole lot safer.” She continued as she was eating her soup.
“ No! That's what they think I'll be doing. Give me a chance Charlie, please? I need this. You are the only one who knows of the particulars of me getting away. I want to disappear and this is the only way. Besides, you weren't raised in the forest, you were just as prissy as I am. What made you change?” Kagome said pointed out hoping her friend understood her decision.
“Yeah, but I found my true calling there. I fell in love there. Guiding people to through the forest isn't anything like the office jobs you've taken. Whatever you've seen on TV isn't like the real thing. It's dangerous.” Charlie pleaded
“But you've survived. You've been there for what 10 years? It's the only solution Charlie.” Kagome replied
“Alright, but if anything bad happens, you have yourself to blame girl.” Charlie said getting up. “Be reading first thing 5:30 a.m. on the 13th. One of my men will pick you up. His name is Hojo, do not be late.” At that Charlie left Kagome alone with the bill.
Present:
`I feel so safe here.'
Kagome sighed to herself as she and a boat of others traveled down the fast paced river. She couldn't help but to notice the vast amounts of trees that reach the heavens. The Forest itself blocked the sun at certain areas, almost making it seem forever night.
“It's so beautiful here. It's so humid though.” One person by the name of Leslie said. Kagome nodded in silent agreement.
“What about the rain. It comes, then few seconds later it's gone.” Said Trevor, added.
“Hence the phrase rainforest. As we go on we may get to see on side of the river dry and the other side raining.” Charlie Chimed in.
“What kind of predators are here Charlie? I mean other than the Mosquitoes.” Leslie asked.
Kagome tuned the others out of her mind and scanned the area around her. There were correct it was beautiful, and humid. But the humidity didn't bother her as much. If anything something about this place sent chills up and down her spine. She felt that something was calling her here.
Her black waist length hair instead of frizzing curled, causing her to look more exotic, and her ivory skin had a slight glow to it. `I feel so alive here. I wish I could live here forever.' She thought to herself, as she looked over to Charlie their guide, and her long time friend.
Kagome knew Charlie ever since they were in high school. Twelve years ago Kagome's typing class was assigned a pen pal. What started out as a class project, turned into a beautiful twelve year friendship. Charlie was Kagome's opposite. Charlie was tall around 5'9 when Kagome stood 5'3. Charlie was medium build, where as Kagome was petite. Charlie had a honey caramel completion, partly from the daily effects of the sun, the other part from her heritage, Kagome had her ivory skin. Their differences always seemed to help their friendship last.
The Boat the small strangers rode in continued at a faster speed. Kagome at one point found herself in the arms of Hojo. Not because of the torrent of the waves, but because every once in a while he would scoop her up in a tight hug, faking like it was the rapids.
“Excuse me Kagome, the current must be getting stronger the further down we go.” Hojo murmured in her ear. Kagome blushed and backed away while whispered a small thank you. She knew he was trying anyway possible to touch her. She couldn't help be a bit flattered because he was one handsome man. Not only was he handsome, but also very sweet. So what he was a little perverted. No one's perfect right. `Too bad getting involved with him would mean signing his death warrant' she thought sadly.
Her thoughts were cut short when she heard Charlie curse. “ I told you we should have waited. Look how high the river is getting. Look how narrow the river is.” Charlie bellowed. She ran up to the controls to slow the boat down. She then grabbed her map out of her case and scanned it.
“Look I checked and the weather said that they hadn't had much rain. And the village leader said that today was a good day to travel.” Seto yelled back hurrying around.
“Look we are going to have to go another few miles. It's going to get choppier. The next village is seven miles down the river. Can everyone hold out that long?” Charlie asked. Everyone nodded. They knew that she didn't want to go down today, but because she was a friend with Kagome, she didn't trust anyone else in watching over her friend. The three persons were on a private expedition that paid Charlie's 7,000 to take them down the river. Hojo and Seto were both crewmen that she just hired.
Kagome could see the beads of sweat on Charlie's forehead. While steering the guide kept her eyes on both sides of land. The sweat was dripping down her form fitted t-shirt. `It's not that humid. Why is she looking around so?' Kagome thought as she was looking at her friend. Kagome then grabbed her yellow backpack and tried to stay secure on the boat. She knew that Charlie was sweat due to nerves, and that meant there was no telling what was going to happen.
As if fate heard her thoughts, a nightmare did become a reality, for shouts and bullets were ignited at once. Leslie screamed, and everyone dropped to the bottom of the boat. Charlie cursed and reached for her pistol, as bandits came out of hiding from the trees.
Hojo suddenly threw Kagome on the bottom of the boat; this time however was for a different reason. `We've been shot' Kagome thought to herself as she pushed the now dead Hojo off of her. She sat up and touched her shoulder with her other hand. `Just of flesh womb, Hojo must have had the worst of the bullet.' She thought sadly.
Gunshots, bird screeches, and screams were everywhere. `They must be after me.' Kagome thought to herself as she crawled to the side of the boat. While the chaos ensued, she whispered a small prayer, and then dropped herself out of the boat. While falling into the water, she could hear Charlie screaming her name.
`I'm sorry Charlie, I didn't mean to get you involved.' Was the last thought Kagome had before losing consciousness.
