Chapter 12 Turn around

“Uh Oh.” Was what Inuyasha heard as he patiently waited for the two children to make their appearance. Rin was first to show, slowing walking up to him holding her friend the mongoose. She knew he was mad so she didn’t run up to him like she usually did.

Kanna came up and sat on a rock close by. Her eyes were downcast, and she was also looking sad and hurt by his anger geared towards her.

Inuyasha shook his head at the two girls and sat down leaning on a big tree, and motioned for the girls to come sit next to him. When both complied he eyed them suspiciously.

“What are you two up to? Why are the two of you in Kagome’s dreams?” he asked

“I wanted to meet her brother, she seemed so nice and the trees liked her so I wanted to come see her. I thought we could play together.” Rin said innocently pouting hoping that he wasn’t to mad at her choice. Inuyasha smiled and pat her on her head.

“We feel something from her brother. We don’t like her. She will hurt you.” Kanna said as she leaned her little head on his arm. Inuyasha sensed the evil rising in Kanna.

“You haven’t traveled south have you Kanna? And who is we Kanna? Why are you talking in plural?” he pulled her closer to get a closer inspection. Her eyes that were always black were changing from black to green.

“Why do I sense an evil power in you?” Inuyasha asked again expecting an answer.

“Sister is sick brother. The animals still listen to her, but she is mean now. I don’t play with sister anymore because of it.” Rin supplied trying to be helpful.

“Kana, why don’t you like Kagome? What dangers to you feel from her?” Inuyasha asked again wondering how to get the evil disease that was in the little girl.

“She has the power to destroy our home. We don’t want her here.” Kana said quietly.

“Kana can you promise me something?” He asked calmly. She nodded eagerly and he continued. “Do not hurt Kagome. Promise me you will not call the animals on her or try to kill her. Do I have that promise?” Reluctantly, the little girl nodded, but not before shedding a tear.

“I care and love both of you. You two are very important to the forest, I need you two to be brave, and not scare Kagome. Do I have both of your words that you wont scare her?”

“But brother, I wasn’t trying to scare her!” Rin pleaded Inuyasha looked at both girls and got up.

“I have to go now, I will visit soon, both of you stay safe.” Rin nodded gave him a hug on his leg and skipped off. That left Inuyasha with Kanna alone. She was sitting in the same spot leaning on the tree staring into space.

‘I need to find a way to save her.’ He thought as he looked at her. As long as her eyes had black in them, she will keep her promise in not hurting Kagome. If the eyes turn permanent green, who knows what evil will do to his mate. He bent down and gave Kanna a kiss on the top of her white mop.

“Stay strong Kana.” Inuyasha said as he walked off. His next stop would be the village chief.

Just 15 Miles west of Inuyasha’s hut was the village that he protected. When he got there he was immediately met up with a furious woman. “ Where is Kagome? I have been worried sick of her. What am I to tell her sister, huh?” came the angry voice of Charlie.

“Nothing from what sources tell me. Remember Kagome’s brother-in-law is set to kill her.” Inuyasha replied to her “How are you though, I heard that you had been hurt after the rebels took you.”

Charlie waved her hand at him and said “I’m fine, I got a little banged up, but nothing serious.” While they were talking more men approached them. It was the village elders and three members of Inuyasha’s team. With the exception of the elders and Charlie, the rest were not human. Inuyasha’s team of brothers were called the Guardians of the forest due to their supernatural powers. And like Inuyasha, the all were humanoid with animalistic traits.

Kouga of the wind was the guardian of the north. He was of the wolf tribe. Because of his speed and intelligence he controlled not only the wolves; but also all the animals of speed and flight. His mate was Ayame another of the wolf tribe.

Shiippo of the rain was guardian of the south. He was of the fox tribe. Due to his trickery and cunning he was the ruler and protector of all the small animals. Due to his age he did not have a mate as of yet.

Last but not least is Toya Thunder guardian of the east. He was of the Leopard tribe. Due to his regal bearing he is ruler of all feline and reptilian predators. He is Charlie’s mate, a human that he had found in the forest.

All of them present went in the hut to discuss matters. Because Charlie is close to Kagome, the elders allowed her to come and join them in the meeting.

“We the elders want to thank everyone in their support an protection. The gods have blessed us with the four guardians. We see that a demon is trying to threaten the lively-hood of one of our guardians. We need to discuss what should be done to stop this from happening.” One of the old men said.

“We need to nip this in the bud, the last thing we need is for outsiders to come.” Shippo pointed out, then looked at Charlie and said “Sorry I didn’t mean…”

“It’s ok, I agree with you. Kagome’s life is at stake. One her family members want to kill her, and we have to stop it. That’s why she’s here. To disappear, he wasn’t supposed to know that she’s here.” Charlie mentioned.

“She’s an outsider right? Why don’t we just send her….” Before Kouga could continue, he was up against a wall with Inuyasha’s claws in his neck.

Furious, Inuyasha growled, “She is mine! She is not going anywhere.” With that he dropped Kouga and sat back down in his spot.

“Since Inuyasha has claimed her as a future mate, she is no longer an outsider. We all must protect her. At all costs.” Toya said. Charlie smiled at him and listened on.

“Brother, I do not understand something, why does this person what her dead so badly.” Shippo asked.

“Well, it’s because she is very special brother Shippo. The man who wants her dead knows of the power that she has.” Charlie said.

“What of this power?” one of the old men asked curiously.

“She is of the Miko.” Inuyasha said quietly. Charlie looked at him sadly knowing that he didn’t want to give out that sort of information.

“What is this Miko?” another elder asked.

“It means she is a healer, a purifier. She can heal wounds and purify things with little or no effort. The man probably wants her dead because it is said that a blood of the Miko can not only give you eternal life, but raise the dead as well.” Toya said matter-of-factly.

“With blood like that, just one drop could give you a prolonged existence. Why kill her? “ One of the elders said.

“While that is true a drop of blood would give you eternal life, the blood of a dead Miko would give you immortal life. While my brothers and myself have eternal lives, we could still die by someone murdering us. To be immortal, would mean incapability of dying what so ever.” Inuyasha said

“I am so sorry to hear of this horrible plight young one. It grieves me that a man is so greedy that he would kill his own family.” An elder said shaking his head sadly.

“What I want to know is how did her brother-in-law find out that she was here? How did he bribe the bandits into trying to kill her? It was almost like they were waiting for us to come down the river. We got her a special passport and changed her name and look temporarily? We made sure no one was following her.” Charlie said frowning.

‘Unless there is a traitor in our mist.’ Inuyasha then thought at the comment Charlie made.

‘ But who would it be?’
