Incomplete

Kagome Higurashi woke up in her own bed feeling refreshed after a good night’s sleep. Today was Saturday, which meant no school or work that she needed to catch up on. She hopped in the shower, got dressed, and ran downstairs to have breakfast with her family before she left to go to the Feudal Era.

“Morning Gramps!” Kagome said energetically. Ever since her and Inuyasha became “official” with their relationship, her mood always seemed to be great.

“Why are you in such a rush?” Gramps questioned, looking up from the newspaper he had been reading.

“Off to the Feudal Era, of course”, Mrs. Higurashi answered for Kagome as she entered the kitchen.

“Why are you always running off there anyway? Oh yeah, I almost forgot. You like to get all lovey dovey with Inuyasha. All that gross kissing and stuff.” Sota instigated.

“That’s none of your business, you little twerp”, Kagome snapped, looking flushed from anger combined with embarrassment.

“Now Kagome, be nice to your brother”, Mrs. Higurashi calmly said with a smile on her face like always.

“Ugh, whatever. Oh I almost forgot my yellow backpack”, Kagome remember as she ran up to her room. When she swung open the door Inuyasha was climbing into her room from the window.

“Empty spaces fill me up with holes
Distant faces with no place left to go
Without you within me I can't find no rest
Where I'm going is anybody's guess”

“Inuyasha! I was just going to the Feudal Era. Sorry but my little brother was being a little brat and-“

“It’s over.” Inuyasha stated uninterestedly. Kagome froze in her tracks just staring at Inuyasha with a confused look.

“What do you mean? What’s going on?”

“It’s, as in it is, over, as in done, ended, finished.” Inuyasha retorted mockingly. He had a cruel grin plastered on his face.

“What the hell did I even do?” Kagome asked. She let him see the annoyance she felt but refused to reveal her sadness.

“It’s not what you did... it’s what you didn’t do. I could have been a full demon already if Kikyo had been the one helping me find all the jewel shards. So I guess using you as my jewel detector didn’t really do much for me. But since me and Kikyo are back together, I don’t need you anymore.”

Tears of fury welled up in Kagome’s eyes.

“So I’ll be needing these”, Inuyasha ripped the necklace holding the glass bottle of shards off of Kagome’s neck and inched towards the window. He pivoted around one last time to make one final comment.

“I’ll add these to my other collection, thanks. Later.” Inuyasha chuckled, seeming pleased with himself, and leaped outside.

Kagome stood there in shock. She walked backwards toward her bed, unable to remove her locked gaze at the window in front of her. She sat down on the edge of her bed, absorbing everything that just took place.

“This whole time… I was just a jewel detector to him…” Kagome whispered to herself.

“He used me… just to get his hands on the sacred jewel… and now I can never even see him again because he has the jewel shards that connected me to the well…”

Kagome felt a combination of sadness mixed with pure rage. How could he do this to her?

In the Feudal Era, Inuyasha paced back and forth in front of the well.

“Where the hell is she? She’s always late getting here”, Inuyasha said fidgeting around the field.

“Kagome will probably be here soon, Inuyasha. You just have to learn to be patient.” Sango replied.

“Like that’ll ever happen…” Miroku snickered.

“I heard that!” Inuyasha shouted, quickly getting defensive.

Then from out of the well came Kagome who began walking towards Inuyasha with a smirk on her face.

“What took ya so long?” Inuyasha asked anxiously.

“Well, the only reason I came is to tell you that me and you are through.”

Sango and Miroku looked at each other than at Inuyasha’s dumbfounded expression.

“W-what? Kagome, wh-“

“Save it, Inuyasha. I just came along with you this whole time because you fought off all the demons while I collected all these useful jewel shards.” Kagome opened her hand to show Inuyasha the almost fully completed sacred jewel.

“How’d you get all those shards…” Inuyasha asked looking even more dumbfounded than before.

“That doesn’t matter. But thanks for fighting off all those demons, Inuyasha. Couldn’t have done it with out you! Bye now!” Kagome scoffed and then ran off with the jewel shards.

Inuyasha just stood frozen. His heart ached so badly he swore he could hear it inside him shattering.

“Something isn’t right…” Sango acknowledged looking at the direction that Kagome had ran off to.

“Kagome isn’t the type of person to just take off with such powerful jewel shards to fulfill her own desires, I can assure you of that”, Miroku stated, staring in the same direction as Sango.

“Well, we should follow her and see what’s going on”, Sango declared.

“Inuyasha, you go ahead and…” Sango and Miroku turned around to see that Inuyasha was walking off into the distance.

“Inuyasha!” they both cried out in unison.

<i>‘Why would she do that to me…’</i> Inuyasha wondered as he stared at the ground beneath his feet.

“I've tried to go on like I never knew you
I'm awake but my world is half asleep
I pray for this heart to be unbroken
But without you all I'm going to be is incomplete”

Kagome went to school on Monday feeling just as depressed as the last 2 days. She still couldn’t believe Inuyasha was using her the entire time she had been with him. The bell had already rang yet Kagome was too deep in thought to realize.

“Kagome, is everything ok?” Yuka asked worriedly.

“Yeah, you havent said a word to us all day”, Eri agreed as she used her hands to lift herself into a sitting position on Kagome’s desk.

Kagome barely even noticed that her friends were there. Her mind was in another world. And the only world she wished it was in was Inuyasha’s.

“Voices tell me I should carry on
But I am swimming in an ocean all alone
Baby, my baby
It's written on your face
You still wonder if we made a big mistake”

<i>`Feh, what am I getting all worked up about? She never cared for me, why should I feel any remorse for her? Still, I can’t deny the pain stinging my heart right now…`</i> Inuyasha thought as he sat up in a tree, the wind blowing his long, silver hair.

The pink petals wavered in the soft breeze, some falling off in the process and swaying back and forth in the air before they lightly landed on the ground. Inuyasha had been up their for hours thinking of what happened. The sky had changed from light blue into orangey-yellow as stars slowly became visible in the sky. Inuyasha looked up at the sky.

“</i>-sigh-</i> Kagome, why did you have to do this…”

“I've tried to go on like I never knew you
I'm awake but my world is half asleep
I pray for this heart to be unbroken
But without you all I'm going to be is incomplete”

Inuyasha had fallen asleep up in the tree until the next morning when he woke up. By force, that is. Before Inuyasha knew it, he was waving his arms in the air trying to balance himself out but ended up falling face first into the ground.

“If Kagome sit me I’m gonna be really pissed”, Inuyasha angrily said, lifting his now dirt covered face and spitting a few pieces of grass out of his mouth. He looked to the side to see Sango’s Hirakotsu on the ground next to him.

“No, Inuyasha, it was me, Sango. So get up NOW”, Sango demanded.

“Feh, like I have to listen to you…” Inuyasha said looking away from Sango. He planned on getting up anyway to dust the dirt off of his red kimono. As he pushed his hands on the ground to lift himself up he was knocked into the ground again. This time, by Miroku’s staff.

“What’d ya’ do that for?! I was gettin’ up wasn’t I?!” Inuyasha fumed, bearing his fangs and waving his fist in the air.

“Certainly for other purposes I’m sure… but it was really for being rude to Sango, who was merely trying to direct you in the right path”, Miroku said in his wisdom-like voice.

“And what the heck is that supposed to mean?” Inuyasha was already fed up with the two of them.

“You need to work things out with Kagome”, Sango demanded.

“Are you both stupid?! Did you not hear her say she used me for the jewel shards?!”

“Inuyasha, we all know Kagome would have extremely good reasoning for doing something such as that. You should go to her time and get an explanation from her. After all, she’s just not the type of person to take off with the jewel shards”, Miroku assured.

“So why don’t you and Sango go look for her then?” Inuyasha asked, preparing to stand, and happy that he wasn’t bashed on the head once he was on his feet.

“You’re the only one who could get through the well. And besides, this is something you two need to settle, not Sango and I.”

“Feh, like that’ll happen…”

“I see there is no changing his mind, Sango. Let’s go”, Miroku sighed in defeat as him and Sango trailed off.

As soon as they were out of sight, Inuyasha hopped over to the well, leaned over, and looked inside.

“Kagome, you’re giving me an explanation for all this whether you want to or not”, Inuyasha assured and jumped into the well.

Once he knew he was in the well house, he stood frozen. The courage he had right before he jumped into the well disappeared in a matter of seconds. He didn’t want to have to be denied by Kagome again. Inuyasha stood there contemplating whether or not he should go see her.

Meanwhile, Kagome was on her way over to the shrine steps when she stopped in front of the well house.

<i>`Inuyasha, why can’t I stop thinking about you…`</i> Kagome wondered.

The more she looked at the well house, the more she became annoyed.

<i>`Wait a minute, who does he think he is just leaving like that? I’m gonna go over there and give him a piece of my mind!`</i> Kagome thought with an angry expression on her face.

She dropped her backpack where she was an ran inside the well house. As she leaped over the edge to go into the well she realized she had no jewel shards to connect her through time. Kagome let out a scream knowing this was going to be a painful experience.

Inuyasha looked up, startled from the shriek of that familiar voice and caught Kagome before she could hit the ground.

Kagome’s eyes were shut tightly, waiting to feel a rush of pain, but she didn’t. She looked up to see who was holding her in a tight grasp.

“Inuyasha…”

“I don't mean to drag it on, but I can't seem to let you go
I don't wanna make you face this world alone
I wanna let you go”

“Kagome…”

Inuyasha gently let her down so they were now staring at each other, unable to speak. Kagome snapped out of it and began to speak angrily.

“How could you do this to me, Inuyasha? You just used me all that time because I could see the jewel shards and then you run off with that dead priestess, Kikyo?!”

“Me?! You’re the one who used me to fight off demons for your own personal needs from the sacred jewel!” Inuyasha blurted.

“Right, like I’d ever do that, Inuyasha… I can’t believe you’d even make up a lame excus-“

She was cut off. Not by Inuyasha’s words, but by Inuyasha’s kiss.

Kagome couldn’t even pretend to be angry anymore. She wanted, no, needed Inuyasha more than anyone. Kagome closed her eyes, feeling completely smitten. Inuyasha had both his hands cupped on each side of her delicate face as he kissed her. Kagome lightly held onto each of his elbows that were risen as she kissed him back.

Suddenly, a blue aura surrounded the two of them as they passionately kissed and they were transformed back into the Feudal Era. I’ve tried to go on like I never knew you I’m awake, when my world is half asleep I pray for this heart to be unbroken But without you all I’m going to be is incomplete”

As soon as they looked up and knew they were in the Feudal Era, Inuyasha motioned for Kagome to go on his back and he hopped out of the well. The sun was setting so there was still some light out.

Sango and Miroku rushed over to them from the forest and greeted the two.

“I think these belong to you, Kagome”, Miroku handed Kagome a large piece of the jewel.

“Where did you get all of this?” Kagome asked looking stunned to see such a large portion of the jewel in her hand.

“Miroku and I were walking through the forest after talking to Inuyasha and we heard Naraku talking to Kagura about tricking the two of you into betraying each other. He transformed himself into a look-alike of Inuyasha to betray you into getting the jewel shards and vice-versa. Kagura had a hold on the shards and Naraku was just a demon puppet so we battled them until we got the shards back.”

“So that explains it”, Inuyasha and Kagome both said in unison.

“But more importantly we’re glad to see you two back together!” Sango smiled.

“How’d you know?” Kagome asked.

Sango and Miroku’s eyes were glued to Inuyasha’s hand which was around Kagome’s waist. As soon as Inuyasha and Kagome realized, they turned in opposite directions and blushed.

“Well, it’s been a long and stressful day so we should get some rest. We’ll see you two later!” Kagome smiled at the two of them.

“Bye!” Miroku and Sango smiled back at them as they walked off into the distance.

“Come on, I wanna take you somewhere”, Inuyasha gestured for Kagome to get on his back again and she did as he wanted.

Inuyasha jumped up into the same tree he had spent most of his time in while him and Kagome were in a fight. His back was leaned up against the tree with his legs spread out a bit in front of him. Kagome filled that space as Inuyasha secured her in his arms. Kagome placed her hands over his and watched her surroundings.

The sun was setting, and with it the colors began to change from an orangey-yellow color, to a grayish pink, creating a beautiful color in the sky. The petals on the branches of the tree were swaying back and forth again, making a peaceful sound as the sun was now barely visible.

“Wow, I’ve never seen anything so beautiful before”, Kagome softly said as she gazed up at the starry sky.

“Neither have I…” Inuyasha said just as softly, but his eyes were not focused up at the sky, they were focused on Kagome.

Kagome looked back to realize that it wasn’t the sky he was saying was beautiful, it was her.

“Kagome…”

“I love you”, Kagome whispered as she laid her head against his chest, shutting her eyes.

“I love you, too”, Inuyasha whispered back as he smiled. He closed his eyes, embracing Kagome in his arms as they soon drifted off into a blissful sleep.
