InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Injuries to Love ❯ Chapter One- The return. ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Hello lovely readers! I hope you all enjoy my first venture into the world of authoring a fan fic. I don't know how often I'll be updating, but I hope I won't have to leave you hanging for too long. The busy lives of poor college students can be rather trying at times, possibly making for slow updates.

Disclaimer: * ring ring ring * “Hello… Yeah, KaShi that's me… What do you mean I don't own Inuyasha? Oh… Okay, Rumiko Takahashi owns them, you say? … Really? Cause I'm pretty sure that Sesshoumaru is naked and tied up in my closet as we speak… Oh? … Well, if you say so… Yeah, ja ne.” Okay, time for my meds again. These hallucinations are something else. And unfortunately, I don't own the Inu-tachi; I just borrow them for my own sick pleasure.

Have fun reading!

“Argggh! Damn it!” Kagome screamed as she rubbed her right knee, the one just pitched into sharp rock on the ground as she tripped over the second branch since she had started running. She could feel the youki of her pursuer like a warm, rancid breath on the back of her neck. Breathing hard and dripping sweat from her exertion, Kagome threw herself up off of ground and continued her panicked flight towards the village and safety.

`Damn it,' she reiterated in her head as she tripped for a third time, `why didn't I listen to Inuyasha about being out by my self or, better yet, just stayed home? I was just thinking about everyone and wanted to come back early…' A tear ran down her face. `Why isn't Inuyasha here to save me?'

------------------------

It had all started right after supper on a nice Friday afternoon. Kagome's original plan had been to spend the evening relaxing, probably getting in one more long soak in the tub before heading back to the Sengoku Jidai on Saturday morning for some serious shard hunting. She would also be sure to enjoy her time spent sleeping on her comfy western style bed before trading it in for her sleeping bag on the ground or a futon on a hard wooden floor.

After following through with the first part of her plan, the long soak, she padded back to her room in her bathrobe to put on pajamas and pack her things for the next week or so. She got in the door of her room and picked up the clothes she had laid out for herself. Kagome stopped to admire the cute pink ruffles of her favorite panties and bra set before putting them on and sitting down at her desk. She had felt a little naughty, sitting around her room in just her underwear.
What if Inuyasha decided to come back early for her and saw her in this state of semi-dress? What would she do? Would she sit him within an inch of his life, or wait to see what he did? What would he do? She suspected in her heart of hearts that he would probably blush, mumble something, and get defensive about the whole situation and not even notice the she would have welcomed a much more positive, possibly physical, response. The more she thought about it the less she really wanted to find out. Would he say something about Kikyo? That would probably be the worst thing that could happen.

As she put on her tank top and comfy shorts, her mind began to wonder to thoughts of her and Inuyasha's relationship in general. It had been rather unsteady lately. He seemed to get more and more removed from everyone in their little ragtag group of friends as time went by. Did he still think of Kikyo as much as he ever did? Was she, Kagome, still just a second rate replacement for the dead woman who still seemed to hold Inuyasha's heart, even from beyond the grave? Kagome shook her head and remember that she was supposed to have come to terms with these questions a long time ago. Inuyasha was just a friend. She needed to move on to other things and quite obsessing over the hanyou.

As she began packing clothes into her yellow backpack her started thinking about the other members of their party and how they had all changed, but still, somehow, remained the same over the past three years she had known them. Or maybe they hadn't changed all that much, but her perceptions of them had. Take Miroku, for example. When they meet he had seemed to be just a lecherous houshi with a wondering hand and curse from their common enemy. Now Kagome saw him as one of her best friends in the world. He still had a groping habit, but now it seemed limited to Sango. His perceptiveness had sometimes scared Kagome with its correctness. Miroku was a contradictory sort of person. He was all about the honorable thing to do and helping people in need, but still carried with his lies and deceptions about dark shadows and phony exorcisms to get them rooms in the nicest manor around.

Sango on the other hand, was still very much like the Taijiya they had first met. She was still just as strong, maybe even stronger. The only difference was that she seemed a little brighter lately, and didn't hit Miroku as hard as she used to. In fact, she only seemed to hit him out of
habit. Sango had taken up a spot in Kagome's life as a surrogate older sister. She was defiantly more than just a friend.

Shippou, too, had grown over the years. He was a little more mature and didn't try to pick fights with Inuyasha as much as he did in the past. He also began to see Kagome more and more as a mother figure. Sango said he always seemed get depressed when she was gone and that hadn't changed since they met. Thinking of Shippou remained Kagome that she needed to go downstairs and get the pocky and Muscat gummies she had purchased for him so she could hide it in the bottom of her bag before it got too full.

After doing all of that thinking about her friends, Kagome decided to go back early and surprise everyone. Which was what put her in her current situation. Since no one knew she was coming, they hadn't been anywhere nearby when she came through the well. Kagome had to climb out on her own, using the vines growing into the sides of the well. She had forgotten how difficult it could be with her over stuffed backpack to carry up and no Inuyasha to help. Once she flipped herself over the edge of the well, she took off her backpack and lay down in the grass to catch her breath. As she stared at the sky, she noticed that it was really cloudy and looked like it could start to pour any minute.

`I hope I can make it to the village before it starts' was the thought that crossed Kagome's mind as she got up from the ground and hefted her bag to start the walk. She had been about a quarter of the way to the village when she first felt the presence.

It smelled the heavenly sent as soon as it appeared on the moisture laden night air.
`Hmmm, miko,' it thought as the air ruffled its feathers with the sudden change of course to head towards the source of smell, `I haven't had such a lovely delicacy in a very long time… I wonder if this one will scream for me before I break her pretty little neck?'

The evil bird youki chuckled to itself as it realized that the miko was also alone.

Sesshoumaru was dozing in the top of a tree near his ignorant hanyou brother's village. Now why, you might ask, was he doing this? Well, there was a certain enigma, an anomaly even, that he had to solve, and soon. The object of his scrutiny was not present at the time so he was content to wait for her to return. She seemed to completely disappear from time to time and this only added to her mystery. There was something about his brother's wench that intrigued him. They had had chance meetings off and on for the last several years, and he had come to the conclusion that she was unlike any other mortal onna he had ever met. Her reliance on stupid half brother irritated him to no end, but he didn't know why. These feeling were not acceptable. Sesshoumaru had to settle once and for all the question of what was so alluring about this human bitch, so he could promptly get over it and move on with his life. Yes, that was the plan. Find out why, squash that reason to tiny, bloody bits, and never think about her again. After he had settled on this course, he heard said onna's scream ring out through the woods.

I know, this first chapter is really short, but I hope they will be longer in the future.

I like reviews, as they make me feel good about myself. Also, feeding the authoress with reviews of her glowing works of brilliance is one way of increasing the update rates (hopefully…). I also genuinely like to hear comments about my work, even if it's about something that's wrong with my writing, like spelling or a plot hole, or just a poorly written or explained action. Just keep in mind that if you have a problem with my work and want to leave a comment, I would like something more substantial than “Hey, your story sucks, you should go kill yourself.” Telling me what you think is wrong with it is always better, cause then I have a chance to try and fix it. This is a work in progress so I am also open to suggestions.
