Chapter 1: Happy, Joyous Tears x2
This wasn't happening to her. The man she loved above anything else had just asked her to forever stay by him and she just was speechless. As soon as she said those words, all was lost: the sound of the cheers and clapping around them, the place in which they stood. She just stared into her lover's eyes, while he stood up, seeing how they held emotion, truth being the single one she saw.
`I knew that Inuyasha loved me and would do anything for me and asking me to marry him was the best thing that he could have ever asked. Ever since our unexpected reunion, I have wondered what it would be like to live life, with him at my side. Now I know, the desires my heart has felt him was proven true: Love, Devotion, and Faith has led me to this moment because of all those things and today has brought me more joy than everything else in the world.'
Kagome was silently crying as she was scooped up by Inuyasha, lifting her up as he held her waist while she wrapped her arms around his neck. He wrapped his arms around her tightly, afraid that this moment would end all too soon. He drew up a smile as he continued to hold her, twirling them around in the process.
`My one dream of living with her has finally come true. Spending the rest of my life with Kagome is something that I will never, ever regret because of the feelings I've held for her are spoken and that will never fade, no matter how much time passes. I will never let her go. This is where I'm meant to be.'
The noise and chatter suddenly flooded both their senses once again and were pulled back to reality. Inuyasha set her back down and pulled her to a pure love kiss. Kagome held no complaint whatsoever as she kissed him back, still silently crying. She was held to his embrace, arms still wrapped around her, her hands placed on his chest. It was a few minutes before they pulled back and gazed at each other once again. Inuyasha reached to wipe off her tears that were still pouring from her eyes. She put her hand on top of his, holding it there, wanting the feeling for just a bit longer. She blinked the tears away and sniffed a few times before finally speaking,
“I will always be here for you, no matter what happens. Nothing can tear us apart.” She pulled his hand from her face but still holding on to it. Inuyasha glanced briefly at her hand which had the sparkling new ring on her hand and then took both his hands and covered hers.
“Nothing ever will. I promise you that I will never leave your side, being completely faithful to you always, now and forever. I love you, Kagome.” He spoke with such softness in his voice that you'd never know that he was rough and gruff. He placed her covered hand to where his heart was beating, meaning that his heart belonged to her now.
“I love you too, Inuyasha. My heart will always belong to you, too.” She spoke just as softly, knowing what that gesture was supposed to signify.
Mom and Dad walked over to where they were standing and made their presence known.
“Well, its looks like my baby has grown up.” Mom spoke with as much tears of joy as her daughters'.
“It certainly appears so. My baby girl is no longer a small child but a full grown woman, engaged to a wonderful young man.” Dad spoke, apparently speaking with a voice that said that he approves. It was hard at first seeing the proposal, but after she accepted, he knew that life will be much more appeasing for her and her new fiancé.
Kagome and Inuyasha face them as they spoke and preparing to what they were about to say. Kagome spoke first.
“Mom? Dad? You guys knew about this?” She asked, still drenched in tears, not believing what she heard.
“Of course! We knew nothing was going to stop him from asking you and wanted to get our approval before it could be done, although your father had to be given a little push.” Mom said, glancing at her husband, eyeing him.
“But I made the right decision. Like I have been saying, it took me a while to get used to him around the house and it might be hard to face having a demon in the family, but if it's what makes our daughter happy, then I see no point in saying no.” He countered, facing the couple once again.
Kagome rushed up to him, giving a suffocating hug. “Thank you so much Daddy. I appreciate all that you have done for me and this had made me one hell of a happy daughter!” She said, looking up at him and Mom. “And thank you, Mom. Thank you for what you have both done. I can't even think of anything else to say.”
Still embracing his daughter and Mom now joining the family hug, He looked up to see his future son-in-law, smiling back at the scene before him, Dad rolled his eyes and gave a small smile as well.
“Stop standing there and come join this hug, Boy. You are family now.” He said, with no regret and no hostile in his voice, but acceptance. Inuyasha looked shocked to say the least, not to mention Kagome and Mom, who looked more than confused. He walked over and joined the family embrace, with him between Kagome and Mom, wrapping arms around him and his around them.
Everyone was watching this and applauded even louder. Miroku could hardly contain his emotions as he looked at Sango, standing next to Ayame, who were both sobbing. Ayame looked in his direction and caught his gaze. He gave a curt nod and she did the same, knowing what he was silently implying.
He stood on a metal chair, clearing his throat to catch attention. Everyone eventually calmed down and looked his way. Inuyasha knew that it was Miroku's time, to also propose to his love. The hug broke apart and Kagome was standing beside him once again, with his arm still around her shoulders. `You can do it, man. Go for it!' He silently cheered, seeing that Miroku was just as nervous as he was minutes before.
“Before we begin celebrating the new engagement, there is something else that should be said, and I must say it before I lose my nerve.” Everyone stood quite, except Sango who seemed a little dazed at the moment. “Sango, will you come up here, please?” Miroku asked which caught her off guard. `Now I know he's up to something, but what?' She thought she was pulled from her thought as Ayame elbowed her to get her up to where Miroku was. She glanced at Ayame with a baffled expression before standing to where Miroku was, now on the ground.
Kagome had a sneaking suspicion as to what was going on. She looked up at Inuyasha with eyes saying, “What's going on?” He seemed to know what was going on. He looked down at her, to which his expression was silently saying, “I think you know what's about to happen” and gave a small smile and a quick nod. Kagome wanted to say something but quickly looked back at Sango and Miroku and seeing that her unasked question was slowly being answered.
“Sango….”He looked at her straight In the eyes, not feeling the least bit remorse of what he was about to ask her. She stood in front of him, on the verge of crying again but she held her ground. He took her right hand and held it gently. “Sango, I know when I first saw you, I thought of nothing more than a beautiful young woman who, if aggravated, would beat the living crap out of me.” Everyone gave a few chuckles at that, including himself. She silently smiled, knowing it was true. “And I kept thinking of what it would be like to spend time with you and found out that you are the most wonderful, most intelligent, butt-kicking woman I have ever known and seeing you smile and then get angry and knock me out in one second, is all I wanted to know.” She couldn't hold back anymore and her vision started to blur with the oncoming tears. `Miroku…'
Ayame walked to where Kagome and Inuyasha were and stood beside them. She started crying ever since Inuyasha proposed to Kagome and wasn't letting up. Kagome was now silently sobbing as well. She felt Inuyasha's grip tighten and smiled happily, knowing that it was happening to Sango, too. She put her hand on Ayame's shoulder and Ayame looked up and smiled at her friend. Both turned back to the scene before them, silently crying for their best friend.
“I hope you can accept me, Sango, knowing of my lecherous ways, but I will be only faithful towards you and only you.” He then got down on his right knee and just as Inuyasha had done, pulled out a ring box and opened it to reveal a stunning, not platinum, but a silver ring, with a diamond also centered with not sapphire, but ruby stones surrounding it. Sango's reaction was similar to Kagome's: speechless, unable to say anything, tears nearly blinding her, and stood there, unable to grasp at the situation at hand. “My dear Sango, Will you accept this ring as my love for you and be my wife?” She put her hand up to her mouth and covered it, trying to hold back the emotions that were pouring out.
“Stop keeping us in suspense, Sango. Answer the man already!” Sango looked up to Kagome and gave her a dark glare. Kagome was doing the exact same thing she did when she was proposed to. Ayame couldn't help but let a few snickers escape her. Inuyasha tried to maintain a casual appearance but the shaking of his shoulders gave it away. A few other people laughed out as well, breaking the tension once again.
She looked back down at Miroku and couldn't help but smile, as it did help her ease a little bit. “Miroku, it will be an honor to be your wife. I can accept those lecherous hands of yours, even though I will keep continuing to knock you out in the process. Yes! Yes, Miroku, I will!” She ended up busting out in tears as she saw the ring being put on her finger and getting hugged by Miroku and being kissed at the same time.
Everyone once again, cheered and applauded for another new engaged couple. Kagome and Ayame screamed out in joy and excitement and ran to where the couple was still kissing. Sango and Miroku pulled away as the two girls congratulated Sango while offering congratulations to Kagome as well, seeing that they didn't get the chance to earlier. Inuyasha walked right up beside Miroku and gave him a handshake: A hard, meaningful handshake between two very good friends. “Congrats, Miroku. I knew you could do it!” Inuyasha complimented him. Miroku nodded. “As to you, my friend. Now we both have the women we love and will never let them go.”
After Sango's family pulled her and Miroku over for practically the same thing with Kagome's family and the parents of all four families gathered together for shared congratulations and such, everyone got a cup of soda as the toasts were about to begin, celebrating the two new engagements. Both Sango and Kagome's fathers stood up above the crowd, both on metal chairs, holding their drinks. Everyone gathered around them, Sango and Miroku stood beside each other, hand in hand while Kagome and Inuyasha stood beside them, with an arm around her waist, pulling her close to him and putting her arm around him as well. All were standing beside their mothers at the front, waiting to hear their father/husbands speak.
“Well this has certainly been a happy day for all of us, I'm sure. We, as the fathers of the brides, like to congratulate our daughters for their new lives ahead of them along with their fiancés!” All cheered and took a little drink. Dad spoke up once again.
“At first, I was shocked, horrified that my daughter, Kagome was going with a demon, or half demon at that. I didn't want her to get hurt as I was when I was younger. I didn't see what she saw in him. However over time, I began to see that not all demons are evil and ugly as they appear. I saw my daughter happy again, that she found a boy….a man that she held close to her heart and I realized….that no matter what, not a force in the world could tear these two away from each other, not even me. I didn't know what to think of it at first but I'm glad that I finally opened my eyes and saw for the first time…that she was where she truly belonged: beside him. As I congratulate them, even though the wedding's still some time away, I am proud to call him, Inuyasha, my son. To Kagome and Inuyasha!” He concluded. Everyone repeated their names and drank again.
Inuyasha was a little shocked at being called son; By Kagome's father no less. Kagome silently said “Thank you” and looked up to Inuyasha who still had a baffled expression but changed when she leaned up and kissed cheek, bringing him out of it. He looked down at her and did the same, this time on the lips, a little longer too. “This might take some time getting used to, being called son.” He told her when they broke apart. “Well, at least he now can call you son. You're a part of my family now.” Kagome responded, hugging him closer as they looked to see Sango's father take the stand.
“Sango has always been a happy girl, especially when it came to her closest friends and family. This is more apparent when she is around Miroku. Every time I see them together, it looks like they couldn't be pulled apart. I see Miroku torment her and in turn she knocks him out completely. I can't help but laugh at those times and seeing that she takes after me in that department.” Sango agreed with statement with out a doubt, nodding in his direction. He chuckled and continued. “Even through the beatings I see her put him through, I see pure love and affection even though she's expressing anger and embarrassment. I have no doubt that they will be together, as they grow and no doubt that she will continue to beat him senseless. Along with that, I can now call Miroku my son! To Sango and Miroku!”
Miroku looked at Sango and knew that she and only she will beat him, but in a good way. Sango then told him, “I let you know I will continue to beat you senseless until it gets through your thick skull. But it makes me feel content that I only have that privilege to knock you out, should you even think about looking at another girl. I speak that to you now, as a warning.” She gave a look, stating that she was serious, but her eyes said, “I will take pleasure in doing do.” Miroku laughed and gave her a passionate kiss, simply telling her that he agrees with her. “And knowing that you will beat me should I stray, tells me that you are doing it out of pure love for me.” Sango gave a small blush but knew that he will never leave her.
Unexpectedly, Ayame now stood up with a toast of her own. “Even though I am a friend of the two couples, I can't help but tell them I support each of them and will be a dear friend to them. May they live happily together and will never stop caring for one another. Be it through good or bad times, I hope that we will see it through and come through with flying colors! To the Two Happy Couples!”
As soon as she stepped down, the party continued as before but with more excitement than before. Ayame walked to her group of friends.
“I can't believe this is happening to you two. You two found wonderful men and your future is set. I can't wait for the weddings!” She exclaimed.
“There is no doubt that we're going to have a double wedding. It wouldn't be right. Besides, we planned on it.” Kagome smiled at her response while she turned to Sango.
“Definitely. I always dreamed that we would get married at the same time and now it's possible.” She responded.
“But, the thing is that we'll be in college and you two will remain in high school, meaning that the weddings will not be until next year. Your parents insisted that you finish school and I have no argument. Miroku neither. It might be hard, but it'll be worth it to see you walk down the aisle after a year's wait.” Inuyasha explained with some difficulty, but knew he couldn't change it.
“Yeah, I know. Waiting a year seems long but we can get through it. We always have.” Kagome spoke after him, assuring him. He kissed her forehead, “That's right, baby.” He sighed, getting that off his chest.
“It will be strange, not having you guys around the school, though.” Sango said, sounding a little depressed. Miroku looked at her with a hopeful gleam in his eyes “Don't worry Sango. I know that your school breaks correspond with our breaks so we'll see each other then.” Sango gave a curt nod.
“Still, separating out close-knit group will be tough.” Ayame pointed out, folding her arms, thinking how it will be without the boys.
“It will be rough on all of us but let's worry about that when the time comes, but let's enjoy the here and now and celebrate the accomplishments and engagements!” Kagome pointed out, with a huge smile on her face.
“Your right Kagome, let's not wallow but actually celebrate at what's been done!” Miroku agreed and held out his cup of punch. “Here's to our close-knit group….eh, family. May we always be together, even though we will eventually go our separate ways with our new lives. Nothing can tear this family down. May we be happy and look to the future with open arms!”
“Here! Here!” Ayame held up her cup to his.
“To our closeness as a family!” Kagome then joined them.
“May we will be as one!” Inuyasha after that, held his.
“To our faith and loyalty to one another!” Sango finally joined them.
After a few movements and they made one final cheer: “All for one and one for all!” And drank to what was said and looked forward to the unknown future.
