But I'd like to take this time to thank all the other reviewers for their input and kind thoughts. Thank you! They make my day and inspire me to keep writing. You are all appreciated greatly, so please don't think what I said above is for you. Because it's not!
Like I said before, chapter two. I hope someone will enjoy this. And always, reviews are appreciated. If they aren't grade school and insulting. If you don't like the fact before all my stories have been one-shots, then don't read them. I don't need a mean review for the sake of being mean, please. I'm just writing to have fun and I hope some of you readers have fun too. Again, reviews are welcome. Thanks, guys!

“Intended Mate” chapter two
by penpaninu

Myoga safely reached the Western kingdom in a day and a half. It took him two birds, a deer and a bear to make good time, but he had kept his mouth shut and buried himself in fur or feathers to remain unnoticed.

The Lord of the Western Lands was waiting on a region update as it was. Myoga decided to keep the news about the Lady Kagome secret unless asked. He didn't wish to be squished by Lord Sesshomaru for news of his brother he wouldn't want, or by Lord Inuyasha himself for finding out if he had told.
“Sesshomaru-sama wants land reports, not news of a mating. I'll just keep to the facts unless he catches wind otherwise,” Myoga thought and scampered up the hills to the Palace. Another hour or so later he was waiting outside Sesshomaru's office doors waiting for an invitation inside.

It took Sesshomaru good on two hours to feel inclined to receive his old vassal. Myoga hopped inside and up onto the Lord's desk so he could see him better. Sesshomaru hardly paid attention as it was, so he could make this fast and be on his way again.

“Begin your report,” Sesshomaru rumbled, not even lifting his eyes from a scroll that wound halfway down his desk. So far,so good. Myoga sat down and tapped one foot on his knee.
“The mountain dogs are roaming the hills to the southwest, engaging in skirmishes with the wolf clans there. The human villages around the area have so far remained clear of the melee, but there's no telling how long that can be,” Myoga started. Sesshomaru didn't even move or look up.

“Send the third unit to clear the situation,” he said quietly. Myoga nodded rapidly.

“Yes, Lord! There have also been a gathering of priests to a temple along the coast. Should we do anything about that?”

“Myoga.”

“Yes,my lord?”

“Never presume to ask this Sesshomaru a question.” Sesshomaru's eyes lifted lazily though his gaze held a promised death. Myoga began to sweat.

“Hai, Lord Sesshomaru! Your humble vassal would never step above his position,” Myoga enchanted, pulling a handkerchief from his haori and mopping his brow. Death threats from the Western Lord were an everyday occurrence, but it was another thing when the lord in question was capable of carrying out his promises if provoked further.

Sesshomaru gave a small noncommittal sound and picked up a quill between his delicate claws. “Did I ask you to stop reporting?”

“No, of course not, Lord!” Myoga chimed and hastily deferred his travels around the Western domain. He purposely went over the fact his younger brother had sought him out to ask matters on mating. Better not trouble his Lord over such a matter.

As Myoga was wrapping up and standing up to hop down to the floor, Sesshomaru's voice cracked like a whip. “If there is something you are holding back, you should say it now before you think of purposely deceiving me.”

Myoga froze. He looked over his shoulder, at his Lord. How could he? How could he know he was withholding information? It didn't even refer to the Western Lands at all! Myoga opted for last minute honesty.

“I did travel by the Bone Eater's Well and the village there beyond Inu…..the Forest there,” Myoga mopped at his sweating brow again. “Your brother, the Lord Inuyasha has inquired to inu-youkai mating rites.” Myoga sank miserably down as he snuck a look at the Lord.

Sesshomaru was not amused. “My half brother asked you about?….”

Was he torturing him? Or merely prolonging his demise? Myoga gasped and demurred. “Inu-youkai mating rites, specifically to this family. He had asked because he….”

“My brother is a fool,” Sesshomaru intoned. He was following right down the path their father took. Maybe it would kill him one day too, that could only be hoped for….

“M-my lord, have I displeased you?” Myoga groaned, rubbing his hands together nervously.

“You are a fool as well,” Sesshomaru commented dryly, watching his vassal wilt beneath the words. “Any who deal with my brother should wind up in an early grave.”

Myoga hopped up and down. “It isn't my wish to displease, my lord and master, but I have a duty to the family to look to all of it's members…”

“You may leave now,” Sesshomaru commanded and Myoga shot to the door in two bounds.

“Yes, my lord! Thank you!” No need to have a servant slide the door open. The flea could pop under it if he chose. And he chose a speedy retreat.

Sesshomaru stood and walked to the window, looking out over the courtyards of the palace. There was no need to wonder which human his foolish half brother was going to mark. That miko in strange clothing that followed him was obviously the intended recipient. The irony was not lost on Sesshomaru of Inuyasha's foolish involvements with priestesses. This one might wind up binding him again, or purifying him. There would be one less brother and no more head ache from that whole angle of his life. Sesshomaru was just smiling to himself at the pleasant thought when a meek childish voice spoke from the doorway.

“Sesshomaru-sama? Sesshomaru-sama?” the voice crept closer and Sesshomaru spared a glance downward.

“Rin,” he said simply. “Why do you not retire for rest?”

Rin smiled prettily, hugging her sleeping robe tightly to her small frame. “I wanted to say good night to Sesshomaru-sama! Will you go to bed soon?” She learned early on not to touch her lord, but he didn't disapprove, or aloud, of her standing near his tall impressive form.

“Soon enough. Good night, Rin,” Sesshomaru murmured. Rin blushed and giggled.

“Good night, Sesshomaru-sama!” she darted out of his office, letting a servant out there in the hallway slide it shut behind her. Soon enough Sesshomaru would have to call tutors in and educate his young whelpling. She was bright and polite enough, but she should be learned in decorum and etiquette.

The Lord of the Western Lands gazed over the view his window afforded him. And sighed heavily. If his half brother was a fool for taking a human mate as their father had done, then he was a fool as well for allowing one to tag along at his feet.
He wouldn't turn Rin out when she loved him so much. And he was a fool for inspiring her dreams when he had no intention of breaking her human's heart.

When everyone stayed the night at Kaede's village, sleeping arrangements usually were more formal. The women could sleep in the hut with the old miko, along with the sole child of the group, while the men could camp outside her front walkway.
Inuyasha usually didn't care about these arrangements, or at least he didn't mention he didn't care. Last night he did mind, a great deal, about not sleeping at Kagome's side, even just to hold her close or hold her hand and feel her at his side. It had to be the mating jitters. He didn't want to lose sight nor scent of his bitch.

Shippou had patted his idol heartily on the shoulder (when Inuyasha was sitting on the ground so he could reach him of course) and vowed that he would watch Kagome in Inuyasha's place so the hanyou wouldn't worry all night. That kid was all right sometimes. Inuyasha was glad Shippou and he had had that small talk last night. And the brat seemed to be on his side, something Inuyasha was grateful for. He didn't mean to be on the lookout for flying kicks to the knee or groin. And the gratitude Inuyasha felt towards the kitsune after that talk made him realize that he didn't hate the child's antics as he loudly complained to.

Inuyasha was awake before dawn, watching the sun peek over the treetops and hills and washing away the gray predawn light. Miroku leaned against the hut next to him, arms crossed and head tilted to the side. Inuyasha gave a snuff at him and looked out at the village, watching men and women wander outside to begin their day's work. His ears twitched as he picked out each sound inside Kaede's hut. A small moan from Sango. Shippou's childish breathing. Kagome's murmurs. Was she dreaming about him? Inuyasha burned to wake her up and take her for another walk. Maybe he could hold her against a tree and kiss her, press her to him and….
Kaede then blasted his thoughts with a chorus of unladylike snores that made the hanyou almost jump up to his feet. He shook his head and closed his eyes briefly. He could harbor all these horny thoughts as he wished, but damned if he was going to mess up his marking Kagome.

Inuyasha folded his hands over his warm lap and closed his eyes. He could practice patience to make things perfect.

Kagome sleepily opened her eyes, rolling over in her sleeping bag. The warm figure on her left had to be Sango and Shippou was pressed against her leg. Kaede was across the hut, nearest the door flap. The presence of her friends was always comforting, but lately Kagome had woken up aroused and wanting Inuyasha.

Her dreams hadn't been kind, offering her snatches of intimacy they had shared those two times, and arousing her body in her sleep horribly. She just wanted to open her eyes and see golden eyes looking down at her, and feel snow white long hair settling against her skin. He had discovered where she liked to be kissed and nibbled and her breasts ached to feel his mouth again.
Kagome blushed and burrowed deeper into her sleeping bag. Enough! It's not like this is the time or place for that. She had said she wanted to be mated to him….it wouldn't hurt would it? Kagome felt the side of her neck and blushed, remembering how good it felt when he kissed her there. He had confessed to some pain, but not as much as their first time. And that had hurt. It hadn't hurt much the last time, though. It would keep getting better.

Hell she was getting hot just thinking about it. Pressing her thighs together didn't help and Kagome gave a small moan into her pillow. Shippou snored childishly and hugged the edge of her sleeping bag. Kagome stilled and lay quietly. The kitsune had really been helpful lately, and he hadn't fought Inuyasha once since a tussle across the fields she could only watch. It surprised her that Inuyasha hadn't picked a fight either, but she shouldn't complain about that. It pleased her greatly to seeing some of the group's arguments take a break for a change.

Kagome watched Sango sleeping for a few moments. Well there would always been an argument between her and Miroku-sama, but that was only to be expected. Sango cared about Miroku but hid it behind punches and whacks with Hiraikotsu when his hands wandered over her or other girls without her permission. Kagome was sure Miroku wanted Sango and would stop his lecherous ways if given the chance to progress their relationship. Old habits may stop that from happening anytime soon, Kagome thought. She silently wished her friend luck on that. Things were one step away from being essentially married to Inuyasha for life, so she could hardly say she herself needed the luck.

Inuyasha was a sweetheart after they had talked that night in the hut during the moon, or lack of one. He gave her soft looks quietly when the group was banded together, and carried her on his back without complaint, and held her there longer than necessary to be as close as they could while looking for shards with everyone. Kagome seemed to have melted the proverbial wall around his heart, the wall briefly taken down by Kikyo's friendship, and hastily remade after her betrayal. It warmed her to know he trusted her completely and loved her as much.

For the longest time Kagome was sure her love was going to remain unrequited her whole life. Knowing that wasn't true and Inuyasha was glad to share her body and give her his heart and life made her want to shout it out to the whole village. I'm going to bear Inuyasha's children! Of course Miroku might wilt at taking his line, so she would have to shout out that she was going to be mated to the protector of the village.

Kagome giggled and petted the top of Shippou's head as he mumbled incomprehensibly in his sleep. Shippou would always be her child to her, so would Inuyasha mind if he lived with them? Once they had gotten a hut and things were more settled down of course. Kagome wondered how she was going to tag along on the treks across Japan if she grew round with Inuyasha's pup. A tiny thought nagged at her that hopefully Naraku could be killed soon so they could live happily ever after a lot faster.

Despite his sweeter ways of dealing with her and the kitsune, Inuyasha still nagged at the group that they needed to pick up the pace to outrace Naraku's search for the remaining shards. Kagome was sure now, that he wanted the quest to be completed so they could live quietly and happily. We could set up a hut here, and go visit Mama through the well…what if it seals up after Naraku's death? What will happen to the Shikon no Tama? If she was sent back to her time permanently, would Inuyasha be sent with her? They'd be mated! He couldn't be separated from her.

Maybe it's a good thing we're doing the mating soon instead of waiting to defeat Naraku, Kagome thought seriously. That bond may guarantee we can stay together always. Her hands smoothed over her flat stomach. Being a young woman, she couldn't stop the giggling thoughts of what a pup of theirs would look like. Being a quarter demon, would he have Inuyasha's ears and white hair? Would he or she have claws at all or golden eyes? She would love to hold a baby close as so many times she held Shippou cradled in her arms.

Kaede stirred and rose yawning, as the sound of a cockerel crowing in the village sounded. Kagome sat up as well, already awake and gently nudged Shippou. Sango rubbed her eyes and sat up, tying her hair up into a high tail and everyone sleepily folded up the futons and blankets and Kagome's sleeping bag. Outside the boys stirred and stretched, moaning as they got the crinks out.

Kagome blushed and poked out of the hut, touching Inuyasha's shoulder. “Are you alright?” she asked gently. Inuyasha sighed.

“I will be if you keep doing that,” he smiled softly. Kagome rubbed his shoulders firmly after Inuyasha swept his hair over his shoulder. Miroku stared at the both of them. Since when had they gotten so friendly and…nice?

He cleared his throat and the two looked at him. “Well if Inuyasha is getting a shoulder rub, I'll go ask Sango for one,” he grinned, rising to his feet. Inuyasha groaned.

“He just wants to start his day off with a black eye, doesn't he?” he snorted. Kagome giggled and pressed against his back from behind.
“That may be his way of showing his affection for Sango-chan,” she remarked. Inuyasha touched one of her hands and turned his head slightly to the side to try and look back at her,

“Oi, when did you get so thoughtful?” but he was smiling so Kagome knew he didn't mean it as a barb.
“I always have been. You've just noticed it,” she said, crawling around him to press a small kiss against his mouth. Inuyasha breathed her in and tried to deepen it but she pushed on his shoulder.

“We should get going soon before the others see,” she whispered. Inuyasha smiled and brought a hand around her waist. He held her close for an agonizing moment, smelling all of her scent deeply.

“They'll have to find out sooner or later,” he grinned, kissing her exposed neck. Kagome gasped and held onto his shoulders.
“Would you rather it be them seeing you on top of me, or us telling them face to face?” she asked. Inuyasha snuffed against her and raised his face to hers.

“No one's coming near our mating night. We'll tell them before we do it,” he promised. This vow didn't sound empty and Kagome hugged him with a smile.

“Sesshomaru-sama! Why are we coming to this human village, Sesshomaru-sama?” Jaken jogged behind his lord, panting at the exertion. Rin trotted merrily behind the little goblin, making sport at the energy he spent following their master.

“That is none of your concern,” Sesshomaru rumbled, striding along. They had past the Bone Eater's Well a half an hour ago and were nearing the edge of the Forest surrounding it just now. His half brother was in this particular village and he was with his human entourage if his sense of smell was right.

“But I don't' see why you're troubling yourself with…. looking for that no good Inuyasha!” Jaken gasped, running faster to keep up. Rin ran behind him, scolding him for calling names.

“This Sesshomaru is not one to reveal his reasons to you, Jaken. Know your place and stay here with Rin,” Sesshomaru commanded sharply. Jaken stopped where he was and stood in front of the human girl.

“Y-yes, Sesshomaru-sama! Girl, you stay here! The Master has commanded it!” Jaken squalled. Rin giggled and sat down to pick flowers for her lord's return.

Sesshomaru walked across the fields to Kaede's hut.

End for now

Whew, this was a surprise. When I went to check my hits and reviews, I saw a rather insulting anon-ymous review. It made me rather upset, to say so mildly. When I get angry, I get energized. I decided to use this burst of inspiration colored rage and start writing my next chapter. My original above authors note was a lot meaner. But proof-reading is a good thing. That and the kind review I got after that anon. Thank you, Lachoy! You brightened my mood.
Anyways, that bout of energy gave you the next chapter a lot sooner. So I guess that bad review came in handy in its own way (laugh).
Sincerely yours, penpaninu 9/03/05
