“Intended Mate” chapter seven
“She's What??”
Kagome rolled out of her sleeping bag yet again the following morning, holding her hand to her mouth. She knelt before a copse of trees and retched loudly, leaning on her hands. Inuyasha was out of the sleeping bag, and at her side in an instant, his claws holding her long hair back, his voice low and soothing.
She wiped her mouth and smiled, leaning back against his strong arms, his woodsy scent soothing her sensitive nerves. She kept doing this the past few weeks and she just wished she would get better. Shippou seemed to think it was something else, and it hurt a little that her kitsune wouldn't cuddle near her these days.
Of course a darting look at their make shift camp showed Kagome that Miroku and Sango had taken a private moment again this morning, leaving the kitsune curled up by himself. Kagome sighed and stood shakily, letting Inuyasha's arms circle her slim waist.
“Inuyasha….I'm sorry…” she whispered. He snuffed and smiled widely showing all of his teeth.
“For what, my heart?” he asked, grinning. If he had a tail, he'd be wagging it. Kagome coughed and leaned her cheek against his chest.
“For throwing up all the time. You must be tired of helping me,” she confessed. Inuyasha shook his head, rubbing her back slowly.
“I'd never get tired of holding you, even if you're not feeling well,” he whispered, kissing her neck. Kagome turned to cling to his neck and he picked her up from the ground. She keened softly, trying to alleviate the pain in her back and stomach. Inuyasha carried her to her sleeping bag and laid her on it.
“Kagome…you haven't mooned in a month, right?” he asked. Kagome blinked, getting the reference.
“Oh no, I haven't had my period…it's a little late,” she whispered, rubbing her eyes. She couldn't remember the last time she had used one of the feminine articles she had stowed in her backpack of supplies. For now she was glad not to have the mess during this leg of their journey. They were getting so close after all.
Kagome nodded off with Inuyasha's hands rubbing her back, and his nose pressed against her side. He closed his eyes and inhaled sharply, smelling the differences in her body. She had his pup inside her, he could tell.

“Wait…Sango…don't….ah!…Ah!” Miroku moaned. Sango knelt over his lap, moving up and down on his length. His robes were open down the front and Sango's yukata tangled around her hips as they thrust against each other. Their moans and soft gasps filled the wooded clearing. Sango's hands pressed against Miroku's chest as she knelt on him, her back arching. Her breasts jutted forward with each thrust and Miroku watched her breathlessly, his mouth agape. His wandering hands fluttered up and down her back, then settled on her rear.
Sango moaned louder at the familiar touch and ground harder onto him. Miroku's vision went white as she pumped him to completion, his body straining up against her sharply. Her hips languidly rubbed against his, taking all of his jerky thrusts, her head tilting back as she breathed sharply, her own orgasm coming quietly. Their harsh breathing was the only thing in their private world as they came down from their searing joining.
Sango leaned her head against Miroku's chest. He put his arms around her, and cradled her close. It was a good thing Inuyasha and Kagome finally revealed their relationship to the group. It had helped them open up their own feelings and admit what they wanted and needed was each other.
That and a bottle of sake, Miroku thought sluggishly, his lips plastered in a tired smile. Sango nuzzled his bare shoulder and he ran his hand over her hair.
“We should probably get back, Miroku,”she whispered, opening her eyes finally. Miroku smiled and leaned up to kiss her.
“Just give me another moment…to convince you to stay alittle longer,” he crooned, hands on her hips. Sango smiled as he hardened within her and he rolled her under him, his robes sheltering their naked flesh. It took quite alittle convincing and both were too sore to move just yet after that next joining.

Shippou bounced ahead of the two happiest couples on Japan, turning his nose up at the thought. Those adults were just sickening! They had a mission at hand, and they were close to possibly completing it, and they were doing it holding hands and rutting at each given opportunity! Sometimes he didn't get the grown ups one bit. They said they had a job to do, and ignored it now.
`At least we're moving now,' Shippou thought. They'd be lucky to get a few miles up the mountains that day, since they had started late again due to Kagome's morning sickness. He thought she still smelled funny, but wouldn't comment on it. Inuyasha just grinned like the damned fool he was, and followed her like a puppy attached to her leg.
`He just wants to rut her again more than likely,' Shippou sighed manfully. Sometimes it was a huge responsibility to look after his humans and hanyou. They wouldn't get anything done if he wasn't there to remind them!
Sango and Kagome traveled side by side, talking and giggling. The two men of the group ignored their chatter, for they were content to know they were talking about them after all. Sometimes girls just had to compare notes that way.
The time passed almost merrily despite grabbing only a few clues. Sango and Kagome laughed happily, and the miko smoothed her hands over her smooth stomach. Inuyasha stayed one step behind her, in case she fell. His sense of duty had heightened smelling the changes in her body and it was all he could do not to pick her up and protect her the whole journey to Naraku.
Shippou stopped, and looked up as two thin figures waited for them high above them. Miroku stopped behind the kitsune and then the girls, and then Inuyasha. Inuyasha sniffed sharply to get over the intoxicating scent of his mate with pup. Walking cold flesh and one that smelled like nothing at all. Cold as the void.
Kohaku and Kanna waited patiently, the former holding his scythe by the chain, and the latter cradling her mirror between her small hands.
Sango gasped and Miroku reached back to hold her arm and steady her.
“Kohaku!” she cried out. “What are you doing here?” They had known the young man was in league with Naraku since he controlled him through the shard in his back. That same shard was the only thing keeping his cold flesh moving and would kill him once it was removed. Kohaku watched his big sister emotionlessly and the chain jingled as he swung his scythe absently.
“Our master has a message for you,” he intoned politely. Kanna turned her mirror to one side and an image flared forth for the Inu-tachi. The Shikon Jewel was round and all but whole. Kagome's sharp eyes and miko senses saw that it was complete save for one sliver of a shard that needed to be found. Slender strong fingers closed around the jewel and Naraku's face grinned at the angered group from the mirror.
“I'll be needing your help finding the very last shard, if you would be so gracious,” he smirked. Inuyasha growled, his hand flying for Tetsusaiga's hilt.
“That's what you think!” he snarled. His friends moved into formation beside him. Kanna watched them impassionately and Kohaku tilted his head to the side in confusion.
Naraku chuckled from the mirror's safety. “I wouldn't have you damaging my servants. One after all is dear to you.”
Kohaku slid his scythe into his belt and he and Kanna turned to walk away.
Kagome gasped. “Wait! Naraku! Where are you??”
More of that choking laughter from the being they all hated made the five cringe. “I will reveal myself once you find what I want. And what you want. When the Shikon Jewel is whole will we meet again,” he laughed.
Kanna stepped back, followed by Kohaku and a swarm of Naraku's insects surrounded the children, guiding them safely away.
The Inu-tachi stared up at where they had stood, silent. Inuyasha then growled and slammed his palm against Tetsusaiga's hilt.
“K'sou! That bastard was leading us along again!! And what did he mean we have to find the last shard??” he hissed in rage. Kagome shook her head and gently laid her hands over his.
“Inuyasha….” She whispered and he shuddered, hearing a silent command in his mate's lilting voice. “It will be alright… we'll find it. And we'll win against him.”
Inuyasha turned to bring her into his arms, silently vowing his protection with every fiber of his being.
* * * *
Traveling back down the cave pathways and mountain paths didn't take half as long as to climb up them, and in a week the group was nearing Kaede's village. The old miko greeted Kagome with another hug, and Inuyasha glowered at her, not wanting anyone to interfere with his protecting.
Kagome giggled and smiled at her mate's actions, her laugh calming him down. Slightly. His foot tapped on the ground, wanting her at his side again. He looked like a dog scratching himself and she smiled.
Sango and Miroku agreed that the best thing to do was separate for now, and let Kagome take Inuyasha back to her time. The new moon was fast approaching again, and they agreed it wouldn't be wise for Inuyasha to be human here in the feudal era while Naraku was so near to them once more.
Shippou frowned and crossly remarked that they had better bring him back something for all the neglect he had received on this journey. Kagome knelt down and hugged her kitsune to her, rubbing his small back.
“I'm so sorry we've been ignoring you, Shippou-chan….I promise to bring you back the treats you like and a surprise. Can you forgive me?” she asked. Shippou's heart thudded. His surrogate mama had circles under her eyes and she just looked and felt tired. Combined with her new smell, he couldn't help but feel guilty for twisting in the knife and he smiled, hugging her neck.
“Okay, Kagome! I'm sorry for making you feel guilty…”
Kagome ran a hand through his bright red hair. “It's okay, we have been ignoring you…. I'll miss you, my fox cub.” Shippou blushed as she kissed the tip of his nose. Inuyasha looked partly annoyed, and partly touched at her interaction with the child in their group.
`She's going to be a great mother,' he thought, astounded at the comparison. She didn't quite know her body was housing his pup yet, and he hoped she wouldn't be angry at him somehow for it.
Sango stood forward and hugged her best friend. “Take care, Kagome… and could you bring back some more of that lavender shampoo?” she blushed. Kagome smiled and hugged her tightly.
“I will! Is there anything you want, Miroku-sama?” she asked. Miroku grinned and shook his head.
“Just look in your grandfather's artifacts, perhaps. You decide,” he said cryptically. Kagome shrugged and smiled, patting his arm.
“You two take care….” She winked. Sango smiled wickedly, winking back as Miroku blushed and scratched his neck. Kaede laughed.
“I'll take care of Shippou if you too need to…travel somewhere briefly,” she offered. Shippou sighed and nodded to the agreement as Miroku and Sango tried not to fall all over each other to thank her.
“Really?? That'd be wonderful! Ah….sorry, Shippou,” Miroku murmured. Shippou sighed and spread his paws.
“I hope I don't become as hopeless as you, Miroku!” he lamented.
“Bye, Kagome-chan! Inuyasha!” Sango waved. Inuyasha picked up Kagome, and her backpack and hopped into the well into the future.
* * * *
“Inuyasha,” Kagome said, holding his hand as they walked out of the well house. His ears flicked and he looked down at her,
“Hmm? What, Kagome?” he asked. Ah, she smelled so good…he could take her right here in the shrine courtyard….
“I have to tell Mama we're mated….she's going to think of it as a marriage,” she blushed. “I don't know how she's going to take it. I'm still in middle school!”
Inuyasha laughed at her and squeezed her hand. “Don't worry about it. Your mom likes me fine!”
“Yes but… I've never had a boyfriend, and we're married as it is!” she began.
Inuyasha stroked a hand over her cheek, smiling softly. “ I think she'll be okay with it, right? Don't worry. Your time doesn't hold many worries for us.”
“Onee-chan!!”
“Souta!” Kagome called, waving. Inuyasha reluctantly let go of her hand, his protective urges thrumming through him harshly. It was just her little brother, but he wanted to hold his mate close to show she was his.
“You're back! Hi, Inuyasha-nii-chan,” Souta grinned. He bounced a soccer ball against his knee and caught it. Inuyasha laughed.
“Hey, kid. You been getting strong?” he asked. Souta grinned.
“Alittle bit, I've just been playing soccer really!” he beamed at the attention his idol gave. “I'm going to run ahead and tell Mama and Jii-chan you're back!”
Inuyasha laughed as Kagome groaned. “He's not doing it to get back at you, well much,” he leered. Kagome smacked a hand against his chest.
“You're not the one who may get in trouble for this!” she wailed. Inuyasha shrugged.
“Oh I don't know. You wont' be the one being chased around with silly stinging ofuda when they learn we're mated! Your jii-chan sort of didn't like me to begin with,” he grinned. Kagome laughed at the image and wrapped her arms around his waist.
“Okay, let's get this over with, Inuyasha…” their hands reached out and met regardless as they walked into the house.
* * * *
“Inuyasha-kun! Welcome back…..Kagome, are you well? You look sick,” Mrs. Higurashi noticed. Inuyasha coughed sharply, scratching his ear with one hand absently. Souta was bouncing around, beaming that his idol was staying the night.
Kagome groaned, and wrapped her arms around her mother. “I've been waking up sort of nauseous, Mama,” she confessed. Mrs. Higurashi tutted and patted her daughter's back.
“Well nothing that a few days of rest won't do, right, Kagome?” she asked, smiling. Kagome brightened. It was a fall break from school, so no one was talking about studies despite her weeks trek up the mountains in search of Naraku. Kagome could only be glad she would have one annoying thing to worry about, and that was in the feudal past.
“I'm looking forward to it, Mama! First, there's something Inuyasha and I want to tell you…” she stammered. Mrs. Higurashi looked expectedly at her daughter, and at the nervous hanyou.
“Well…there's something youkai do when they….choose their intended….” She began.
Inuyasha gently shooed Souta to the living room, to shield the kid from any unexpected maternal wrath.
“Uhm, married I think you said it was, Kagome,” he jumped in, trying to be helpful. He could feel her stiffen at his poor choice of words without touching her and Mrs. Higurashi froze.
“Inuyasha…you should have left it to me,” she muttered, not daring to look her mother in the face.
“You're….both..MARRIED???”
Grandfather Higurashi dropped his pen in his shrine office, hearing the explosion across the courtyard.
* * * *
“Wha, wha, it's not what you think! I love Kagome an I'll protect her, an provide, I'll be a good….GLACK!” Inuyasha was pulled into a bone-shattering embrace. Kagome stared, in disbelief as her mother pounded Inuyasha on the back a few times and released him.
“Oh, I'm happy for you both! I thought there might be something between you both but…. just take care of each other! Take good care of him, Kagome,” Mrs. Higurashi stated, eyes glowing. Kagome nodded, mouth agape at the reaction her mother gave. Most mothers wouldn't like the idea of their children marrying young, and here she was welcoming Inuyasha with open arms! She shouldn't be adverse to the idea, as they were getting the reaction they had hoped for.
Kagome didn't have to look at her mate to know he was pleased and genuinely touched at being received so openly. Grandfather was another matter, but he was ineffective in his wrath anyway.
“I will, Mama!” she beamed, happy at the outcome. Inuyasha rubbed his neck and stammered he would do his best and always look after Kagome. Souta bounced back into the room after listening at the door, loudly giving his congratulations.
“You really are my nii-chan now, Inuyasha!” he crowed. Inuyasha laughed and patted a hand on Souta's head.
“Yeah, guess I am!”
“This is sooo cool!”
“Cool or not, he's not having a slumber party with you tonight, Souta!” Kagome ordered. Inuyasha grinned wickedly to himself.
`We'll be having one ourselves,' he thought to himself and gave his mate a sly look. Kagome flushed red, almost hearing his thoughts.
“Ah! No fair, sis! I hardly see Inuyasha-nii-chan!”
“Now, Souta, they both want to be together, and we should let them. They've both been traveling hard as it is,” Mrs. Higurashi smoothed over the situation. Inuyasha watched her, impressed. She really was a kind woman who welcomed him.
“Thanks….” He said shyly. Mrs. Higurashi smiled.
“Family looks out for each other, right, Inuyasha-kun?” she patted his hand. Inuyasha straightened his back and grinned.
“Always,” he vowed.

“They're what?? Kagome, how could you! Demon, begone! “ Jii-chan snarled, unleashing an ofuda from the collection he had stashed up his sleeve and smacked the stiff paper against Inuyasha's forehead. The hanyou sighed, rolling his eyes at Kagome as if asking her permission to talk back at him yet. Not yet, her expression said.
“Father, you know your scrolls have no effect on Inuyasha-kun,” Mrs. Higurashi said gently, serving him some more rice. Jii-chan pouted and crossed his arms as Inuyasha peeled the paper from his brow and shredded it with his claws, smirking.
“He's half demon! My scrolls should have worked!” he insisted. Kagome giggled behind her hand to her mate as her mama gently chided him in return.
“As I remember, you didn't care for Kagome and Souta's father either when I met him!” Mrs. Higurashi stated. Jii-chan snuffed and frowned.
“That was another matter! Kagome's my only granddaughter!”
“And I was your only daughter. Besides, Kagome inherits the ability to pick the best man for her,” she said confidently. Kagome nodded.
“Hear, hear, Mama.”
Jii-chan glowered and sputtered, trying for a last-ditch effort.
“But she better not have him sleeping in her room!”
Inuyasha smirked, touching Kagome's leg with his foot under the table. As if they could keep him out.
* * * *
Inuyasha lay in his hakama on Kagome's bed, waiting for her to get ready for bed. His haori and undershirt were draped over her desk chair and his stomach rose and fell beneath the bow of his pants as he waited. Kagome seemed to be feeling better now, and had acted rather mischievously around her grandfather's protesting. Maybe she wasn't feeling ill from the pup, and he could be with her, alone from their friends and her family.
Kagome paused in the doorway to her bedroom and surveyed her mate sprawled across her tiny bed. “I hope there's room there for me,” she said slyly and Inuyasha's lips curved in a smile.
“I know a place you can sit,” he offered lewdly and Kagome laughed, shutting her bedroom door and crossing the room in two swift steps, hopping on the bed and moving her lover to the side. Inuyasha wrapped his arms around her and stroked her back, snuffing as he tried to tug at her babydoll tank top. Her legs, covered in pajama pants, twined with his.
They wrestled and fought alittle, happy to be alone and safe for the first time in weeks, and finally Kagome snuggled to Inuyasha's chest, kissing his shoulder. Inuyasha rubbed her back, smiling contently. Kagome sighed and rubbed her hand across his bare side.
“Inuyasha…. We're going to have to go shopping tomorrow,” she said nervously. Inuyasha smelled the tension building in her and kissed the top of her head, hands massaging to keep her belly still.
“Ah I guess…unless you're going to make me be your pack mule again,” he grimaced. Kagome laughed and hugged him tightly.
“You're just so strong, and I need your help,” she crooned. Inuyasha swallowed as she pressed her breasts against his bare chest. Even covered with her top, he was aroused to feel those curves.
“Ah, okay, Kagome, I'll help…” he wedged a leg between her thighs and leaned up to kiss her. Kagome kissed him back, her fingers tangled in his hair. They parted lips and smiled at each other.
“What are you gonna buy, huh?” Inuyasha's eyes brightened and Kagome shook her head. She wouldn't say the `R' word while this was on her mind.
“Shampoo for Sango, a talisman for Miroku, a present for Shippou…..andapregnancytest and supplies ….” she coughed.
Inuyasha's ears twitched. “Pregnancy….test? Huh?” he asked, confused. He knew just by knowing her scent and body! And their life bond flared doubly with the additional form attached, it was so obvious.
Kagome buried her face in Inuyasha's chest, eyes tearing. “I'm so scared, I cant' remember when my last period was, Inuyasha….”
Inuyasha smiled. He already knew she was pupped, so she shouldn't worry. He kissed her brow.
“Your mooning, huh? Kagome, you stopped mooning because you got my seed in you,” he said proudly. Kagome looked at him, confused. Of course she had his seed, they had sex quite a bit since they were marked.
“I don't know what you mean….” She murmured. Inuyasha's hands curved around her sides, spanning her slim waist.
“You have my pup inside you, mate. I could smell and feel its presence for a few weeks now,” he smiled softly. Kagome stared at him, not moving.
“All these weeks I've been sick?…And it was….” Kagome burst into tears. Inuyasha sat up with her, startled.
“What? It's a good thing! You wanted a pup right? Kagome, look at me,” he pleaded, frowning. Kagome buried her face against his shoulder, hiccupping.
“Mama thinks it's okay for us to be `married' but now I'm pregnant? She and Jii-chan will disown me! I'm still in middle school!” she wailed. Inuyasha's ears lay flat, horrified at his mate's tears. He hugged her softly, trying to dispel her fears.
“Kagome, it's not so uncommon in my time…” he started, then paused, shaking his head. “It's a part of both of us, mate…. I love you so much and I love you more that you're carrying my pup.”
Kagome wordlessly wailed against his chest, shaking. “What if something happens to us?…What if Naraku… “
Inuyasha grimaced. “All the better you're pupped, we've got a headstart in case of a disaster…”
Kagome smacked his chest, frowning. “Inuyasha!”
Inuyasha turned her face up and kissed her. “ It's gonna be okay…. I'm happy you're pupped , so please don't deny it…..” his heart clenched.
Kagome looked up at his face, her heart twisting as it felt her mate's anxiety. She traced his face with her fingers. “I'm sorry…it's just… I thought we'd have more time,” she confessed.
Inuyasha smiled and kissed her fingertips. “We'll always have time, my Kagome…. This is a very good thing.”
Kagome finally nodded, blushing. Her hand went down to her flat stomach. “We're going to have a baby?”
“Your body has been trying to tell you for weeks,” Inuyasha said. “And yes, we're going to have a pup.” He leaned down and settled his mouth against Kagome's starting a searing kiss.
Kagome let her mate push her on her back and love her worries away. He was incredibly gentle, plying to her needs and passion. Afterward when he lay, gasping for breathe and propped against her side, Kagome hugged him to her and rubbed his sweaty back.
They would both survive the last fight and raise the baby together. Kagome was sure of it, and held onto her mate as he drifted off to sleep.
End for now
One of Mother Higurashi's lines I take to heart. Family, or family that matters, does look after each other. I've finally stepped to that role for my own (sister and hers) of looking out for them the best I can. Not everyone can understand that, but it's the way I feel.
I almost had this done Saturday, but had the end part to do by Sunday. And I got drunk on Sunday, so you can see why it's posted now (laugh)
Like it? Hate it? What the HELL, Naraku?? But we'll get to him again. Hope you enjoyed!
