Hi again, all! It amazes me constantly that people actually read these stories and respond to them. I guess I'm just pleased someone out there likes it. Forgive me, my nonexistent ego has been acting up lately. You guys give me a boost of self-esteem to continue to write Inuyasha as I thought up a plot for it. Thanks all!
It's been a long work at week, but it's Friday night, I have comforts for a warm apartment as it starts to get cold outside, and an idea in my head to bring out to you guys. I know I will be drinking next week, and while that amuses me to think on, I'll try to update before hand.
Honored place for reviewers:
Inugrrl, thanks for the lengthy review again! You never fail to brighten my day up.
Andrea Moon Dog, whine at the moon? Wuff…. (scratches head with hind foot)
Christen aka Cherished Agony, okay okay I'm updating! ^_^ Hope you like!
Sapphire Blade, thanks for keeping up again. I find it an honor to read your words!
FF.net:
Inuyasha's only miko, yeah! Now your kind of `update soon' reviews I don't mind :P I know you're not just saying it to bug me right? ^_^ (lol)
Silver Magick 131, phxazkyote3507, lady Kcassandra, Sachichan16, thanks for reviewing again! It means a lot to me.
Kawaii Bell, I hope to update off and on, though it may not be as frequent as last week was (laugh)
Harai, please give the angry mob a Shirley temple and crackers or something, and keep them locked in the closet!
Arriana, thank you for your kind words! (bows)
Now to AFF.net!
Kagome (simply kagome here), thanks for your thoughts on the baby. You're right, the ears may be seen as a deformity….but we know otherwise!
Syko, more words from you! Thank you… (bows deeply)
Hanyouswimmer, you make me blush! I hope this chapter holds up to your expectations… thank you so very much for reading up til now!!
Sonya (not logged in eh? :P ) thanks again!! I saw your name there a few times, so I'll take the time to honor you. I love lengthy reviews! Can I go on and on about that? (laugh)
But I hope this chapter sated some of your wants ^_^
And a new one on the list, LilyPotterBlack! I love the online name, btw…. Thanks for your kind words recently! It tickles me that you can't wait to read what I have to say ^_^
If I have forgotten someone, I fully apologize. Now, sorry, I have to write a note that's been bugging me when I looked at my reviews. Ignore it if you want! I just had to get it out of my brain and on the computer screen.
While I love and enjoy reviews from you guys, I find review space with….no words very peculiar and annoying. You had to take the time to start the review process, and then not say anything. That's like calling someone's house, listening to the whole answering machine and right when it clicks on, hang up without saying a message. I'm not pointing fingers, but if you want to make a statement with a “dot dot dot”, I'm a very simple person. I prefer words stating whatever is on your mind and I promise to listen. However, if it's juvenile, the dot dot dot shall suffice. Can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all, after all.
Sorry for the note! If I seemed lecturing, I apologize again. Thanks for putting up with these somewhat lengthy author's notes.
Disclaimer: Penpaninu does not claim to be own Inuyasha in any way, shape or form, but does claim to be Inu. Doesn't claim to own Dr. Sato either. He was a character in Gargoyles season one, When Elisa Got Shot by Broadway. This Sato is thinner than the guy in the episode. Maybe the family spread around.
While there are mates, there can still be Hope…
“Intended Mate” chapter nineteen
The Physical, Hojo's visit, and Heated Healing
Mama Higurashi bustled her daughter and son-in-law around the kitchen the next morning, saw Souta off, and convinced Jii-chan to go to work in the shrine early.
“I'll go along with you to the doctors, Kagome, don't you worry,” Mama Higurashi stated. “We have a ten o'clock appointment after all.”
“Thanks, Mama,” Kagome smiled weakly as Inuyasha ran around the kitchen and fetched a cup of tea from Mrs. Higurashi. Mama laughed as he jogged back to the table and patted Kagome's back as she sipped lightly at the hot liquid.
“Are you okay?” he whispered. Kagome nodded and beamed up at her mate.
“I'll be okay…. the doctor's going to say so too,” she said confidently. Mama coughed as Inuyasha touched her cheek with one claw gently.
“Should you get changed for our outing, Inuyasha?” she asked brightly. Inuyasha shook his head.
“Can't I stay this way? You can say whatever you want…” his hand patted Tetsusaiga's hilt against his hip.
“You still have to wear a hat, Inuyasha,” Kagome stated. Inuyasha sighed mightily.
“Just anything but the Piyo Piyo hat,” he begged. Mama and Kagome laughed.
* * * *
The two women and the hanyou took the bus to the Higurashi family doctor. Inuyasha wore a spare baseball cap but stayed in his Segoku Jidai garb, his father's katana strapped to his waist as per usual. The secretaries almost had a fit at Inuyasha's bare feet when they walked into the office, but a small glare from the hanyou shut them up right enough.
Kagome sighed and sat down, leafing through a magazine. Inuyasha `keh'd' and sat down next to her, knees spread.
“So how long do we have to wait?” Inuyasha asked. Mama giggled and picked up a magazine as well.
“We won't have to wait that long, Inuyasha, don't worry,” she laughed. Inuyasha looked around, trying to assess any potential dangers.
A little girl glowered at him and made a face. Inuyasha laughed.
“Awww….ain't she cute. Hey, what's yer name, kid?” Inuyasha asked. The girl stuck her tongue out and hid behind her mother.
“Hey! I didn't do nothing!” Inuyasha said, perplexed. Mama giggled some more and Kagome patted her mate's arm.
“It's okay, maybe she likes you,” she suggested. Inuyasha pouted, his ears twitching under his cap. Kagome leaned up and kissed his cheek.
Finally the family Higurashi was called in to one Doctor Sato. The slim middle-aged man pushed his spectacles up onto his round nose and peered at a file as Kagome sat on the cot. Inuyasha stood obnoxiously close to her side and Mama Higurashi chose to sit down on a chair.
“First trimester check up for….Kagome?” Dr. Sato smiled and leaned closer to Kagome. Inuyasha snuffed in irritation but Kagome squeezed his hand.
“It's all right, Inuyasha,” Mama said. Inuyasha sighed and crossed his arms, leaning back against the counter. Kagome giggled and paid attention to Dr. Sato, answering his questions.
“How is your morning sickness?”
“It's sort of afternoon sickness too, Doctor.”
“When did you find out you were pregnant?”
Kagome named the date Inuyasha mentioned the scent when they found the last shard staying at the shrine.
“So I estimate you in the last half of your second month….all right Kagome, I'm going to put you on a special diet, and prenatal vitamins to ensure the baby's health. Light exercise would be best as well…” Dr. Sato went on and Mama watched, astounded as Inuyasha paid close attention. He would be jotting notes down if he had a pad of paper and a pencil.
Inuyasha smiled at the look on his mate's face. She looked pleased at the check-up. But there was still another part of the exam. Dr. Sato flipped papers in his file and his smile faded.
“Ahem…. well, there is a matter of a physical here…. Mrs. Higurashi, young man, can you step outside for this portion of our check-up?” Dr. Sato asked. Mama tugged on Inuyasha's arm and took him outside.
Dr. Sato gave Kagome a cloth robe. “I'll be back in a moment, if you strip down please….” Kagome sighed and shivered. The memory of Sesshomaru's forced touches came back and she sniffed hard. She closed her eyes and undressed after the doctor left her alone.
* * * *
A half an hour later, Dr. Sato took Mama Higurashi aside. Inuyasha pestered them to listen too.
“I'm sorry, young man, but….” Dr. Sato began. Inuyasha growled lightly. Mama Higurashi touched his arm.
“It's all right, doctor, he's my daughter's fiancée,” Mrs. Higurashi stated. Inuyasha scratched his neck, the ring on his left hand shining. Dr. Sato nodded.
“Well then…. you both should know there is nothing damaged from the…act inflicted. She has been hurt, but she can heal.”
“How bout the pup!” Inuyasha yelped, concerned.
“He means baby!” Mrs. Higurashi sweat-dropped.
Dr. Sato pushed his glasses further up on his nose. “Well the baby is fine fortunately…. So many things can go wrong when something like this happens, but the baby is progressing normally. Physically she'll be fine, but she needs support, family at a time like this…. “
“I find, Doctor, that we can give Kagome that and more,” Mrs. Higurashi declared. Inuyasha folded his arms and nodded. Dr. Sato smiled.
“Then come back for another check-up soon. And may I offer you my congratulations, young man?” the doctor shook Inuyasha's hand. Ouch, the young man needed to clip his nails something awful.
Inuyasha collected a now dressed Kagome and the three went off back home.
“What does fiancée mean?” Inuyasha wondered out loud. He held Kagome on one arm, and watched her face for any small miscomfort or worry. She enjoyed the sunlight on the walk home with her mate and mother, and didn't express any.
“What do you mean?” Kagome wondered. Mrs. Higurashi smiled widely.
“I told the doctor that's what Inuyasha was in the equation,” she said sweetly. “You two will have a ceremony at the family shrine, won't you?”
Inuyasha nodded rapidly, to appease his mate's family. “Of course! Anything!”
“Mama, Inuyasha means that while to his family's ways, we are `married', he knows we should do what that entails to our traditions as well,” Kagome offered. Inuyasha beamed down at her and kissed the top of her head.
“Perfect, Kagome.”
“I try,” she grinned.
“Now Kagome, you should retake tests and help your school year if you're going to be staying here awhile,” Mrs. Higurashi lightly scolded. Kagome sighed mightily.
“All right, Mama. I know I have to pass this year…I don't want to get left behind.”
“Yeah, Jii-chan said something about college,” Inuyasha spoke up. Kagome sighed.
“Don't worry about that, Inuyasha,” she said. Inuyasha brought a hand to her forehead as they climbed the shrine steps.
“What's wrong? You have a headache when I mentioned college!”
“It's okay, Inuyasha, don't worry,” she said sweetly. Mrs. Higurashi waved to Jii-chan sweeping the front courtyard.
“Hey! Inuyasha! I have a job for you,” he ordered. Inuyasha looked over at his mate, taking his cap off.
“Oh boy…all ready?” he muttered. Kagome patted his chest.
“Go, earn your keep. It'll make Jii-chan happy,” she suggested gently. Inuyasha quirked a smile down at her.
“What does that mean?”
“It means Jii-chan will want you to work starting now I think,” she sweat-dropped. Inuyasha tied his haori sleeves back and crossed his bare arms across his thin chest.
“All right! Okay, Jii-chan, what do you need moved!” he demanded, walking over to the stooped old man. Kagome waved and walked back into the house. The sun beat high overhead as Mrs. Higurashi made calls to Kagome's school, and Inuyasha moved artifacts around the store rooms at Jii-chan's sharp instructions.
No one noticed hours later when a sandy-haired young man climbed the shrine steps in a black school uniform, a gift of sorts clasped in his hands.
* * * *
Inuyasha stretched his arms, walking out of the storage rooms, getting the crinks out of his back. “Man what a slave driver…” he muttered, looking around at the few people who stopped to pray at the shrine.
Kagome's family's shrine was a safe place and they had no fear of deviants soliciting so Inuyasha let the strangers mill around as he watched curiously.
Inuyasha stretched his arms, looking back at the house. He wondered how long Jii-chan wanted him to lift those damn heavy crates and organize. He had more strength than the old man, but it was irritating and the dust made him sneeze constantly after all. A hanyou's nose was sensitive after all…
“Excuse me!” a young man called out politely. Inuyasha turned, and glowered slightly, not sure why the student put him off on sight. He had seen countless young men and girls in the similar uniform talking to his Kagome whenever he trailed her to school, seen and unseen by her. While she doubtless knew several young men by acquaintance, this one dared show up at her family's shrine….
“What ya want?” Inuyasha asked arrogantly, crossing his arms over his chest. Hojo took in the young man's stance and outfit. Who was he anyway? He didn't know of Kagome's family hiring…. theater performers to help around the shrine!
“Anou, I was wondering, is Higurashi-san home?” he asked politely. Inuyasha gave a small `keh'.
“Which one?” he asked insolently once more. Hojo stammered and scratched the back of his neck with his free hand.
“Kagome-san of course!” he chirped. Inuyasha stared him in the eye seriously, and looked him up and down obviously. Hojo had the idea he was sizing him up on purpose. Was he a delinquent? His dress was far more traditional, but he wore a katana, of all things, outside a home, and his hair was so long! And dyed at that… The bandana tied around the top of his head helped Hojo's theory.
Had to be a delinquent. Why is he so familiar with the Higurashi family?
Inuyasha glowered darkly and shook his head. “She's inside,” he said simply. Hojo coughed and looked directly at him.
“What?” Inuyasha asked irritably, his protecting nature firing up. Hojo smiled charmingly at the strange boy.
“Would it be all right if I knocked and talked to her for a moment?” he asked sweetly. Inuyasha almost face-faulted but shook his head.
“Fine! But make it quick. She needs rest,” Inuyasha warned fiercely. Hojo sweat-dropped and followed the hanyou back to the Higurashi household.
“I know, she's been sick so often! Her grandfather calls the school and tells us…” Hojo began. Inuyasha groaned and rolled his eyes, sliding the front door open.
“Oi! Kagome! This guy wanted to see you,” Inuyasha bit out, striding up past the entry way easily. Hojo noticed he hadn't been wearing shoes at all, and paused to tug his off.
“Inuyasha?” a familiar voice called around the corner and finally Kagome came into view. She gasped and looked faint at the sight of Hojo. WHY was he visiting? Was he insane? Inuyasha was right here and looking ready to kill!
Hojo mistook her lack of color for something else entirely and bounded forward, watching her intently.
“Higurashi-san, you really should be lying down if you still feel badly! Your grandfather said your rheumatism hasn't gone away yet….”
Kagome sighed and shook her head. Note to Kagome, yell at Grandpa about excuses for school! “Hahah I'm just fine, Hojo-kun! Honestly!” she said weakly as Inuyasha growled at the boy's closeness.
Hojo turned to regard the irate hanyou with curiousity. “Higurashi-san… I haven't been introduced to your friend…” His smile was polite and eager. Kagome reflected weakly that he would look that way if Inuyasha stomped up and down on his face. She held tight to her mate's arm to keep him from fulfilling that vision.
“Oh, Inuyasha?” she laughed weakly and gasped when said hanyou took her hand and laid his arm around her waist possessively.
“That's right, me!” Inuyasha demanded, huffing. Hojo raised an eyebrow but felt ill.
“Uhm, he's my b-b-boyfriend,” she stammered weakly. Hojo looked surprised, then looked down at their entwined hands. Twin rings sparkled in the hall light and his eyes widened.
“Boyfriend? I had no idea, Higurashi-san,” he said sadly. Inuyasha growled and clasped her hip in his hand.
“Fiancee!” he offered proudly, puffing his chest out. Kagome gasped and looked down, embarrassed at his one-track mind.
“F-fiancee?” Hojo looked weak. He staggered and put a hand against the wall to steady himself.
“Feh, what's wrong, Hobo?” Inuyasha laughed. Kagome pushed on his chest, frowning.
“Inuyasha, stop it!” she hissed. Inuyasha crossed his arms and grinned. She turned to her classmate and touched his shoulder.
“Thanks for stopping by, Hojo-kun, but I promise, I'm doing better, and I'll be back at school soon,” she smiled brightly. Hojo managed a watery smile.
“That makes me glad to hear….” He confessed. Kagome walked him out of the house and across the shrine grounds, feeling bad for him. He tried so hard to date her and she hadn't been available emotionally or physically, with all of her running to the well house and back.
“You'll be all right, won't you, Hojo-kun?” she asked shyly, heart wrenching as he beamed down at her strongly.
“Of course I will, Higurashi-san! Just come back to school,” he urged. Kagome sighed. He really was a sweet guy. He just wasn't the right guy for her.
“Thanks for coming by, though…” she giggled. Hojo stashed the movie tickets he had brought into his pocket and laughed weakly.
“Oh, it was nothing! I just told your friends I would come check up on you,” he said. Kagome sighed. Such a sweet guy. He was being chivalrous and offering her the easy way out of this messy situation.
“I'll call Eri-chan tonight,” she said, giggling. Hojo tapped one heel on the concrete ground then smiled.
“Well, I'll see you!” Hojo ran off across the shrine grounds to descend the steps.
Kagome waved and watched for a few moments. He was a possibility in this world of hers, someone who had sought to have her in any way she could offer.
She couldn't have offered Hojo-kun anything for she had been in love with Inuyasha since the beginning. Her heart had belonged in the Sengoku Jidai even when she came back for school.
Inuyasha followed her emotions and stood close behind her, chest touching her back.
“Are you mad at me?” he asked gently. Kagome looked over her shoulder and wiped her eyes.
“No….well…you didn't have to make him feel so put off,” she stated. Inuyasha sighed and tried a smile. The sun set slowly as the two regarded each other, Kagome serious and the hanyou trying to get close to her and out of a reprimand.
Inuyasha laid his arms around her stomach from behind. “Don't be this way,” he crooned, kissing her neck.
Kagome sighed and leaned back against him. “Don't act so juvenile to all of my friends, I'm warning you,” she said warningly. Inuyasha snuffed into her shoulder.
“I'll be good. But he was staring at you, Kagome. You're mine,” he grinned. Kagome raised an eyebrow.
“Yes, so you've stated when you pushed yourself on me in front of Hojo-kun,” she ground out. Inuyasha kissed his bite mark and lathed his tongue over the mark, hands on her belly.
“But it's true,” he smiled hopefully. Kagome sighed and let him touch her.
“You know, you left Grandpa out there all by himself….” Kagome noticed, looking across the courtyard. Jii-chan cursed loudly and stomped up and down as he tried to push a crate taller than he was.
Inuyasha sighed and let his mate go. “Okay already, I'll go help him…. But don't be so mad at me!”
Kagome smiled and held his face, standing on her tiptoes to kiss him. “There, now go help Jii-chan before he throws out his back!”
Inuyasha closed his eyes and sampled her lips deeply. “But it's okay if I do?”
“Oh, just go!” she patted his hip, laughing. Inuyasha hopped aside, as if stung but barked in laughter. He ran across to lift the crate and Kagome watched.
* * * *
A long week passed. Kagome came into her third month gently with a bare minimum of aches and sore pains. Inuyasha was there to be kicked awake to rub her back, and hold her when she had nightmares. He was sweet and kind whenever Hojo didn't visit.
He was still nervous when Kagome's school chums came by. He had to answer questions he didn't know how to without revealing his demon heritage, he had to listen to their shrill giggles, and he had to be congenial and a nice guy. It was hard work. But Kagome thanked him with soft kisses and hugs when they left so maybe it wasn't so bad.
And besides, Kagome said, her friends liked him! They thought he was so `cool', being a `half' Japanese coming back from overseas. And where did he dye his hair? It was so pretty and silver of all colors! Inuyasha turned green and let Kagome field those answers. What an overactive imagination his mate had!
By and by his affections grew the past week. He knew his Kagome needed her time to come to grips with what his brother had done. He didn't touch her beyond hugs and small kisses though his body swelled for all of her. He wanted to touch her soul and join her as one. His cock grew stiff from her scent lately though his heart surged with simple desire of love. It was painful and it was anticipation.
But damned if he was going to letch on his mate when she needed time to grieve. He was content to be her rock to lean on.
That night though, he was in deep turmoil wanting to be as close to her as he could. He knew in his own way he could help her, if he could just be pressed against her… His heart ached to hold her.
“What are you thinking about, nii-chan?” Souta demanded. Inuyasha laughed and put on a bright front.
“Nothing! Come on, let's hurry up and finish already…” he and the boy reached for the dishes and washed them as a team. Inuyasha could not stop his heartache from making his chest throb. He was slowly hurting from not being able to help Kagome in every way he could.
Kagome sat in her family's bath, knees drawn to her chest and meditated, eyes closed. The steam rose around her, drops of perspiration dotting her neck. Her whole being ached without being joined to her mate and her heart hurt. It wasn't just sex. It was the closeness, it was the intimacy of being pressed as closely as you could while your spirits entwined and hearts beat together.
While those thoughts were poetic, Kagome knew she was ready to receive her mate. She needed him to heal completely. And she needed to know he still wanted her.
* * * *
That night she and Inuyasha went to her bedroom to ready for sleep. Inuyasha was content in taking off his haori and undershirt, knowing a full nights rest greeted his Kagome. She didn't have school the next day, nor any appointments or errands, so she could sleep in. Kagome studied her mate's bare back, watching his muscles around swaying locks of waist long white hair.
“Inuyasha…”she breathed. Inuyasha stood straight, his shoulders tense as she felt his heart thud. He slowly turned, chest bare to her gaze. His mouth dried as his eyes met hers. He looked so vulnerable and lonely…Kagome touched his face softly, eyes tender in concern and want.
“Kagome?” he asked quietly. His eyes closed as her fingers traced his jaw, then over his cheek. She pressed against his chest and was glad when his arms circled her waist. Inuyasha sighed and leaned down to kiss her neck.
“Inuyasha….” She paused and looked up into his face. Words were forgotten as her lips met his. Tongues and lips pressed together again and again, creating an unspoken message of want and love. Inuyasha's arms lifted her against him and Kagome gasped lightly in surprise, but wound her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist. His large hands roamed her backside and thighs, adjusting her against him. She held onto him gladly, feeling all of his desire for her in their hearts and in his stiff want.
Inuyasha's lips moved over his mate's neck, holding her down to tug at her nightgown. Kagome stood, waiting as he released her to untie his hakama and remove them. There was no hurry. They had each other again. Kagome pressed against her husband's chest gladly, feeling his coiled strength in his arms as he held her easily against him.
Inuyasha keened lightly as he kissed Kagome deeply but slowly, lowering her back to the mattress as they sank in their emotions. His hands found her breasts and her legs widened around his hips. They fit together easily. Inuyasha's chest rumbled as the intense want for her overcame him.
It was more than sex. It was the close intimacy of being as close as you could be with your one…. To have her so close against him with nothing in the way…clothing, inhibitions, his brother…. Was enough to make him whine in pleasure. They moved together slowly, Kagome's hands tracing Inuyasha's back and hips.
Staring into each other's eyes stilled the heart in ache of fulfillment as Inuyasha firmly sheathed himself into her snug flesh. Kagome's head tilted back slowly, a long gasp winding out of her upturned throat. Inuyasha held still long moments, waiting for her sign to continue. Only his lips moved to graze her cheek and shoulders. His chest strained with his quickly beating heart. Finally Kagome held his head and kissed him softly. Only when she moved against him did Inuyasha roll his hips, pushing deep within her.
It was like coming home from a long journey. In a way it had been. Kagome held onto her mate with splayed fingers, touching as much of him as she could as she writhed beneath his tender strokes. Inuyasha kissed her neck and nipped her shoulder, paying close attention to her desires. They wound together, closer and closer. Kagome gasped, feeling her love for her mate burn fiercely in her chest. Feeling the fire burn between her thighs as passion spread throughout her softly. It was tender and intense all at once. And Kagome felt the jagged edges of her spirit mend back together.
She tilted her head back and cried out lightly to the ceiling as she was released from her painful memories.
End for now
Hey, it's healing time, that's all I have to say. Sooner or later they'd have to come to grips with the physical, and by tying it over to emotional, I hoped to be a bit more `realistic.' As realistic as I can be doing this alternate Feudal Fairy Tale.
By the way, Layla by Derek and the Dominos has a godly guitar riff. Yes, its' an old song, but it inspired the healing scene at the end. The lyrics go on and on about “layla, got me on my knees.” It just speaks of adoration to me, so there ya go hehe ^_^
Sorry for the delay. I still have this story in mind. I'll try not to fudge the pregnancy stage of the story, though I may skip around abit.
Sincerely yours, penpaninu 10/07/05
